Just happened to come across your video and see we go to the same bent and dent stores! Love the savings and the special treats you can get at these places.
I use to buy Matzah all the time when my kids were still home. They loved it with butter, peanut butter, or jelly on them. It was a big win for me when the kids needed snacks.
I actually shop a lot of discount stores that aren't Amish too. There are a lot in Ohio. They don't always call themselves discount stores so I suspect they are in other places too...just called different things.
Love this Video so much.I love to go to Discount Stores. There always got good Deals. And you save a lot of Money.Hope to see more Videos like this.Greetings from Germany
Hello! I love Germany! We had exchange students from Germany many years ago and we are all still friends 25 years later! I would love to hear about German discount stores!
Haha.. I believe we shop at some of the same bent n dents. I stopped buying pasta at the bent n dent because I kept getting bugs in my house. I know they come from the pasta. I have already came straight home and opened a box and it was loaded with bugs.
That's awesome! Another neighbor...are you in NE Ohio! I have had bugs in my pasta...but it has been rare..and it has been pasta that has been in my house for a long time. I've stopped stockpiling as much pasta for this reason. We don't eat as much pasta as we did when the kids were all little. But when we make mac and cheese...its still like 7 boxes!
I recognize this store. We shop there too! It's like a treasure hunt every time we go there! Some trips are much better than others, but you have to be careful not to get caught up in just buying food because it's cheap. Some of the stuff isn't very healthy, but other things can be if you take the time to sort through it.
I agree with all of that. It's fun for our kids when we go...because we get all the snacks...but even the healthier ones aren't as great as cooking from scratch. Everything in moderation LOL :) My biggest problem is that my house is a mess for days after I go because it takes me a couple days to get it all put away!
Its actually from a bunch of different stores. If you are in Ohio, we have a ton of discount stores. There are some up along the lake, some near Youngstown, some near Akron some in Holmes county and even some down near Columbus. Those are the ones I know of but I haven't visited them all. Here is my post about some of the stores I shop in Holmes County: tenminutemomentum.com/cheap-groceries-and-goods-in-amish-country/
Here is a post where I link most of the places I go...I find more all the time though :) tenminutemomentum.com/cheap-groceries-and-goods-in-amish-country/
Someone said they go to Wayne county in ohio. She said they was probably neighbors. I live near west Union ohio and their use to be one at one of the Amish places.
Here is a post with most of the places I currently go but I find new ones all the time :) tenminutemomentum.com/cheap-groceries-and-goods-in-amish-country/
I read every comment :) Thank you. I was pretty sure matza was not used at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur...but we aren't Jewish...so I didn't know for sure :) Thank you for that! It was there at the bent and dent so I bought it...but thank you for confirming. It's definitely used at Passover...any others?
Matza is required on Passover; no leavened products are allowed. Matza can be eaten the rest of the year along with all leavened products. I hope this helps.
Most expired food is exactly like regular food. Unless it has certain oils or nuts or seeds, in which case I avoid buying it most of the time. Those things go rancid more easily so the dates do matter.
I like to visit crash and dent but my philosophy is, “When in doubt, do without”. I will not purchase can goods that have dents on the seam and really outdated food. Anything “Off” colored is a no. I do find bargains but very selective on what I buy. Seriously I see on shelves foods that are years outdated, no thank- you. I would worry over worrying about eating some of this items but that’s just me. I have been known to throw out food having second thoughts, so it’s not a good deal.
I am cautious about some things. I'm more concerned with bulging cans than dented ones. And since I can I know that sometimes color changes if things age a bit (like the parmasean in this video). But I've been shopping this way for years. I have some definite "no's" too...no flax, canola oil is usually a no if expired (it goes rancid), most dressings with dairy, etc. You definitely have to stick with your comfort zone!
@@tenminutemomentum2243 You are so right! I bet my parents would had been an avid buyer because they raised 8 children. I can’t imagine what the cost would be today but we never went hungry. Our mother never gave us anything else unless it was cold cereal. I buy blooper’s of liquid Tide & Dawn by the gallon. Maybe too much or not enough soap so it’s only $6.00 a gallon. Can’t pass that up. I enjoy your shopping and maybe I can get more self confident to buy more. Thank you.
Try looking for "Bent n Dent" stores or Scratch and Dent. Sometimes they are called Discount stores...but a lot of times, they aren't called any of those. I found most of them through conversations I was having with other people about buying expired grocieries LOL :) I find new ones all the time so I think they must exist in lots of places!
For tartar sauce, just mix mayo with sweet relish, and it is much better than the one you get mixed in the store.
Ooh...I love that! We often have relish so that is an easy fix. Thank you!
I thought the same!!!
And fresh lemon juice, fresh or dried dill if you like it.
Just happened to come across your video and see we go to the same bent and dent stores! Love the savings and the special treats you can get at these places.
That is awesome! They are great! I haven't been in a few months. Ready for a trip in a few weeks :)
Hello,Amy, I have missed seeing you, on You Tube.I am back now hope to see more of your videos.
I just put up a new one :)
If you have high blood pressure always read the label for the sodium amount and serving size
I use to buy Matzah all the time when my kids were still home. They loved it with butter, peanut butter, or jelly on them. It was a big win for me when the kids needed snacks.
Oooh...we will have to try that! I do have some younger kids and they are always up for a new snack!
I like butter & jelly too. Tuna & matzah is good. My favorite is fried matzah with jelly.
Enjoyed this video! You are so lucky to be near an Amish store!!! Wish we had one around here but… I have to enjoy your hauls Lol! Great deals!
I actually shop a lot of discount stores that aren't Amish too. There are a lot in Ohio. They don't always call themselves discount stores so I suspect they are in other places too...just called different things.

Bob’s Red Barn products in my opinion are really good.
Yes...I agree! We love Bob's Red Mill!
We have an Amish bent and dent also!
Awesome! Where are you at? Amish live in a few different parts of the country :)
dented rtins are ok if the lid isnt blown
yes!
Hide the biscoff biscuits
Seriously...this is the truth. Hide them from me :)
We have 2 places to shop, Walmart or the highest store around.
My husband is from South Dakota and he grew up with similar options. Although they did have a few creative buying options through food co-ops etc.
Great haul! Where do you go?

You probably won't read this but matza is not a traditional Jewish food for this time of the year. Try apples and honey for a sweet new year.
I read every comment :) Thank you. I was pretty sure matza was not used at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur...but we aren't Jewish...so I didn't know for sure :) Thank you for that! 45 cent for crispbread it cheap
In sweden it almost 2.26 dollar for one
Yes...totally agree. It's cheap! In my area it is usually $3 to $4 per package retail.
Tell us expire dates
Is this in Adams County?
This one is in Wayne County and Holmes County.
I have never heard of scratch and dent food or buying directly from Amish farmers. What is the taste like on the expired food?
Most expired food is exactly like regular food. Unless it has certain oils or nuts or seeds, in which case I avoid buying it most of the time. Those things go rancid more easily so the dates do matter.
