Brilliant, thanks for posting this. I've just picked up a 2001 Deauville, I'm not particularly mechanically minded but watching this has given me the confidence to have a go at changing the oil, I'll definitely be using this video as a reference while I'm doing it mind 😂👍🏻👍🏻

Good luck with it Stuart, they are great little bikes, but the maintenance is a little fiddly for rear pads so have a good check of the calipers before buying pads as they changed from single Nissin, to twin Brembo to Twin Nissin and the year model doesn’t always correspond to what should be fitted. Just so you get the right pads. Spark lugs also a faff, but I have done videos of all of this too so hope it helps. All good fun though. 👍

Thanks very much for this video , I've recently picked up a 2003 red nt650v as a commuter and will be coming back to your channel for servicing tips!

Gear oil: You can also use 10w40, which has almost same spec like 80w90. And there is no such heat in shaft drive that could damage oil viscosity. "Hypoid" only means gears are at angle!

Oil is a bit of a mystery isn’t it.

Hi you are right really nice bike to ride, I would just like to point out that when you do a oil change apart from running the engine up till its warm you need to have it on the side stand when draining down and on the main stand when filling up. You probably know that anyway. long live the Deauville 😀

Yeah I don’t know why I didn’t, but in reality it makes little difference, the engine is level, it wouldn’t make a lot of difference, but best practice and all that.

I like the petrol can spout idea in conjunction with the funnel! Makes the oil fill a bit easier when space is limited.

Yeah that’s the issue with a lot of bike filler caps is that they are in tight places. My flexi funnel split annoyingly, but I had a towel down so disaster averted. Thanks for watching 😊

Hi, this is very helpful obviously but could you tell me the API on the oil used? Can't seem to figure out if it's API 5 or 4

The oil I’m using doesn’t specify, the container states for use where API SG is recommended. Honestly depending on your climate, just pick a weight, I’ve never met an engineer of mechanic that says it matters, particularly on an older machine. I’m just using Part Synthetic 10w40, a fully synthetic would be better protection. That my friend is the extent of my knowledge on the subject. All the best. Rich 😊

@@memybikeni9931 okay, but you're talking of the engine oil now since you said 10w 40 right? I meant for the final drive which I guess is SAE 80 on yours too? Sorry for not specifying straight away.

@@user-cu5rr4bc8i totally my fault, I forgot I was doing two oily things. I used 80w90 API 4, but I think the recommendation is the weight rather than anything else. A regular change matters more than anything.

Hi! If it helps, my 2001 Deauville have in this right moment 10w30, Honda service. Now that the summer is coming, time for new adventures, i will make an oil change and i will put in the engine Motorex top speed - 15W50, JASO MA2, better for the engine in high temperatures always present where i live.
      Regards

Hi there, oil is oil, and as long as it’s the correct grade I do not know of a specific requirement for brand for this bike. It’s a lot more forgiving that engine oil, as you only have gears to concern yourself with, not clutch plates, so Halfords own will do.

I use Liquid Moly SAE80 Hypoid in my 2001 Deauville. Cheers
