The big question is when will they stop making them ? 15 years is only 2 model changes, so do you stop in 10 years so natural wastage takes effect or a bit later and risk having thousands of unsaleable cars ? When do you put the workers out of a job ? It's a bit of a rushed unthinking decision, who's going to dig the roads up to supply more power ? Will we need to import yet more electricity ? We can't supply our needs now, remember in the UK it takes 30 years to build a power station with all the planning, protests and running out of money to pay for it. There will be people with a house and somewhere to charge and an underclass living in flats who can't, so it's the bus for them, a bit of social engineering there. Where do all the unemployed car workers go and how do you pay for their unemployment benefits ? Electric motors are much simpler to make, the control gear will be the expensive bit, but they'll both be made in automated factories where the money and the markets are, not in the UK.
