It’s the 1.2 pure tech engine. The chain was put inside the engine so it is inside the oil. However the engine has a design flaw where gasoline gets mixed and that destroys the belt. It’s especially bad if the car doesn’t move for a long time. This is for all cars with that engine so count Citroens and Vauxhall as well.
All well and good but stellantis has gone back to the timing chain in their new engines from 2024 and onwards - also I have owned two belt in oil engines by Peugeot/Citroen. First was a eb2adtd which done 118547 miles and next car had EB2DTS engine at 74211 (current car ) neither timing belts as much as even showing hairline cracking of the belt when viewed from the oil filler cap. The problem is when owners see 0w30 or 5w30 as the required engine oil and don't ensure the correct specification of that viscosity is used.... The required specs have additives in the oil that keeps the belt in good health. Using any other oil does (and definitely extended /lack of oil change intervals doesn't help. The belt in oil is not inhertantly a flawed design and when maintained is adhered to EXACTLY you won't have issues. Unfortunately the engineers who designed this belt in oil system are expecting far too much from the average owner to do what their lab tests want you to do - any minor deviation can cause massive problems. I would never buy second hand for this reason with a belt in oil engine- simply too many risks in improper maintainance
@@irisfailsafe stop with the false information. The 1.2 hybrid engine has nothing to do with the old 1.2 puretech one, it's completely new and has a chain, not BELT (what you wanted to say). On top of that, the old 1.2 puretech engine was a failure for the cars that haven't been maintained properly. I've had more than 150k kms on 2 1.2 puretech engines and no issues at all.
Just bought one, baby on the way, toddler and disabled teenager. To find a car that suits us was hard. Fingers crossed this will work. My 3rd new Peugeot though. Love them .
Sorry Matt, first time I think you got it wrong. Stellantis literally ruined the 5008. Previous version used to have 3 independent seats with isofix in the back. The front passenger seat used to recline giving a massive load capacity … all gone now, just another non-family friendly suv
How many owners of the previous 5008 would likely have 3 children all of the age to need Isofix child seats? Few. However, it looks like Peugeot has improved the seating comfort for the two outer second row of seats, so the improvements are better for the many and not the few.
@@masonfinney5677me I have the previous 5008 2020 and I have 3 car seats, there are families who have twins/triplets after a 1st child etc, shouldn’t state family cars if can’t safely fit children in them. All stated big family cars should all have independent seats as car seat laws are they should not be touching as affects the safety of them in crashes so I don’t get how bench seats still allowed in big family cars, Peugeot will lose a lot of sales just for taking those seats away
We have 1 child and a dog and opted for this new version as it offers a lot more space than the 3008. Little less than 30% of households in Europe have children and only about 12% of households have 3 or more. Stellantis is in the business of selling cars so they’ve done their math. There are plenty of better and roomier options for families that have more than 2.

@@surfingeagle784 uk wages have stagnated, it is not normal Western democracies I speak of. How much was a top of the range TV in the 90s? A lot. Nowadays a great TV doesn't cost that much. Cars shouldn't cost this much.
@@highallmighty233 I'm just speaking of planned inflation which is a thing. That is central bank policy around the world not something hidden or not talked about. There are exceptions like electronics and digital technology because so much is produced cheaply in places like China and markets are flooded with supply. Besides a new "latest technology" top of the line TV or monitor still isn't cheap. Also, there are still very cheap cars you can buy but you get what you pay for.
People who buy this types of cars, sometimes I wonder where they work, because I've been a doctor for more than 8 years and I have still not gotten my dream car.
Of course this type of cars are not meant for salary earners because salary job is just like modern slavery. You work for 8 years and you couldn't buy a car
You work for 8 years and you couldn't buy a car while some people are just investing little coin in the Alex market and they're making millions of dollars.
Yes I totally agree with you guys, I just hit Five hundred and thirty thousand dollars in my portfolio today from my Alex mascioli. I couldn't have achieved this if I had depended on my salary.
It's simple for me, really... no physical buttons - no sale. It can be the best car in the World, but if it does not have physical buttons, I won't even consider it.
@N1ckZ I bought a brand new Land Cruiser 2 years ago. Physical buttons and switches everywhere. Plenty of new cars here in Japan still comes with buttons and switches. People do not want stupid iPad controlled cars. At the moment Japanese manufacturers realise this. Others will hopefully soon follow suit.
I concur off you need 7- seater to drive your family your life is practically over ... unless you have something like cayman as a second car in garage.
It's odd that people can't disconnect the value of an item with its brand. You could write "Porsche" on a donkey's arsehole and people would pay more for that, than they would for a 100kg of pure gold with a Fiat badge on it. Brand can be a good indicator of quality, of course, but brand quality changes a lot people than people's bias. Hence "German reliability" is so ingrained as a positive trait, particularly into the British psyche, when statistically they're mostly well below average in that regard. I've picked Porsche and German reliability carefully there, since I spent the last 3 years daily driving a Porsche so it's fair to say I'm not biased against them (or I wouldn't have test driven another one last month!).
Honestly, I'd still prefer the previous 5008 in terms, practicality, performance perks(especially the diesel model) and the overall integration of all its features. Except, for looks though this new 5008 - I think it looks better than the previous.
this is odd, because I've seen in the past better cars (from Peugeot, Citroen, Opel) that were clearly better picks and he said consider/shortlist.. and this was is buy it. I think It's buy it if you're in the marker for 7 seaters, and when you look at other options (VW) those are like 60k at least..
There is nothing that would make me part £50k for this car - it's absolutely mental! Keep your money, buy an old Fiesta and invest the rest in shares. It'll be the best decision you could ever make.
Mat Please look at my comment. You keep on saying you like one pedal driving, but it’s actually so dangerous for the traffic behind. Nowadays some electric cars can almost stop only by using regen-braking, and therefore the brakelights don’t turn on. When you are driving behind such a car you understand its braking only when you get really close.
The prices are outrageous. Car prices doubled in the last 20 years, and went up 30 to 40% in the last 7 years alone. Did your average salaries doubled in the last 20 years? Don't think so. 60k euro for a mid range peugeot suv? Have we gone insane?
The new mazda cx-60 full spec is around 55k with a 3.3D 254 hp awd. These new Peugeot with these kind of prices have gone completely off hill, they look good but that’s about it.
But who want to drive an horrible diesel engine now that electric engine are affordable ? And when adding the fuel price, the mazda become way more expensive. The PHEV that is closer to the confort of EV is much more expensive, and you still have to buy fuel for it to drive.
@@theanthony33 Horrible diesel engine? I don’t think so, try to do a lot of mileage and in a short amount of time, you will see that the electric infrastructure for fast charging is still bad and in most civilised countries there is not enough electricity for fast charging. Also the quality of Peugeot has been bad for the last 10 years since they introduced the 1.6, 1.2 and 1.5 diesel, I don’t even want to think about the appalling quality of this electric one.
@@o_o-_-8639 I would not go for this Peugeot, but I already have 2 EVs: tesla 3 LR AWD and eRifter 7 seater for my wife. I already did 1200km in one day, half the morning, working during the day, half at night : absolutely no issues. The grid is also not an issue. In France, converting 100% of cars to EVs would add 20% to annual country consumption 100Twh). The consumption is focused in off peak times, where production is not stressed. This is probably similar in UK. And yes, torque delivery, sound and vibration make theses engines horrible. When you are used to electric cars, you can't drive a diesel engine without noticing.
@@theanthony33 good for France then! However considering that not everyone is living in a single home but more like apartments it’s not easy. Also electric cars ain’t really cheap and I know a lot of people who still buy 1000€ cars because they cannot afford any better, on electric cars when the battery is exhausted it’s too expensive to replace still.
Actually peugeot touch bar with icons below is a very GOOD idea. Physical buttons may have a better feedback, but this touch icon bar is customizable, and this is a great thing, because eveyone uses a car differently. You can have a heated steering wheel button next to a button that launches some virtual functions (like android auto). Plus those icons are large, so them being touch is not that much of a problem. In my opinion separating icons from main touch screen is a great idea, especially if they are customizable. Also, notice that this touch bar is a bit angled, making it easier to precisely touch when driving on a bumpy road.
Locals in The Cotswolds are used to Matt driving around holding up delivery drivers. I'm still driving my 2018 Peugeot 3008 and still loving it. It's been a very good car. The next facelift didn't do a lot for me, but this new 2024 model is interesting. I was never a big fan of these large wrap around screens, but Peugeot pull it off quite well. I still think some of Peugeots concept designs should be on the road. This model is a bit boxy and is slightly boring for Peugeot. I'm used to the French being very bold and different. The interior is like that, but the exterior seems to fit a standard 2024 design that you see in loads of cars (esp EV's) of this era. You know how you can tell a car by the era. In the future, it will be the same with these boxy designs. Oh that's the mid 2020's!
This is all well and good. But please remind the viewers that French cars depreciate faster than a falling brick. This could be a big problem later on the years when they find out.
Regarding the gear selector is it in the same place in left hand drive model? Would then be alot easier if it was. Cannot see why for decades every french car converted to rhd has things in awkward places. Remember some older Peugeots had a smaller clutch pedal than the brake pedal to counteract the fact that when converted over from left drive the tunnel/console would have butted right up so you would struggle to operate it! I can think of many other examples(those crazy wiper linkages that pushed the wrongly set arms across as well as up to try to minimize a massive unswept area for the driver- is just another one).
I just configured one for 63859€. We've been watching Stellantis pushing for the premium segment but from experience, it is immensely hard to break into the german bigboyz territory. Even established premium carrmakers struggle in Europe. Infiniti and Saab failed, Genesis hasn't got anywhere, Acura never even tried, Lexus, Volvo and JLR have limited success. Previous french attempts failed miserably...it's going to have success as a means of transport for high ranking french state officials but I struggle to see why anyone would pay over 50k for a Pug.. You want french and 7 seats? Get an Espace, Renault currently makes the best hybrid system, no range anxiety and never have to worry about finding a working charging station..or save yourself 10k over the ev and go for a plugin 5008.
Peugeot are on the way down these days from around 6 years ago. Stellantis is on a major drive to reduce cost and equipment provided. Renault have overtaken then and have 7 SUVs to choose from. The guy that designed the 3007/5008 left Stellantis and moved to Renault so no surprise they now have the better cars and, you can have EV if you must or better still full hybrid that all produce well over 50 mpg easily. Non of these silly plug in things that cost a fortune to charge. No point saying it’s cheaper at home because that doesn’t count when you go out and public charging is on a par with motorway petrol prices!
Well they've alienated many people with big families, 3 seats the same size in the middle row means you can put 2 kids seats and still access the 3rd row. You can no longer do this with this new model as the middle seat is now too small.
Car company’s can charge what they want for cars this days, no buys them out right anymore, that’s why cars are so expensive because people do monthly payments

Peugeot quality has gone up dramatically.
Honestly, I'd still prefer the previous 5008 in terms, practicality, performance perks(especially the diesel model) and the overall integration of all its features. Except, for looks though this new 5008 - I think it looks better than the previous.

Please look at my comment. You keep on saying you like one pedal driving, but it’s actually so dangerous for the traffic behind.
Nowadays some electric cars can almost stop only by using regen-braking, and therefore the brakelights don’t turn on. When you are driving behind such a car you understand its braking only when you get really close.
The brake lights on my Peugeot 3008 come on when regen braking.
Not buying a new car with these kind of prices any time soon 😢
Engine sucks even more! Timing chain is a horror and tends to snap on a relatively low mileage.
The prices are outrageous. Car prices doubled in the last 20 years, and went up 30 to 40% in the last 7 years alone. Did your average salaries doubled in the last 20 years? Don't think so. 60k euro for a mid range peugeot suv? Have we gone insane?

Let's not forget Skoda Kodiak

The grid is also not an issue. In France, converting 100% of cars to EVs would add 20% to annual country consumption 100Twh). The consumption is focused in off peak times, where production is not stressed. This is probably similar in UK.
And yes, torque delivery, sound and vibration make theses engines horrible. When you are used to electric cars, you can't drive a diesel engine without noticing.
@@theanthony33 good for France then! However considering that not everyone is living in a single home but more like apartments it’s not easy. Also if I am honest recycling of batteries isn’t that efficient yet and quite a long process, as well as the extraction of lithium is still a gray area.
Not only is the glovebox small, they also can't be bothered to mirror the center console for the British version. Looks really odd
They did flip the center console, its just look like that. I do agree that it indeed look really awkward.

Anyone who pays £53k for a Peugout deserves to lose £30k on it as soon as they take it out the forecourt. Madness.
Mat said in the beginning that the range starts from 37.735£ (not counting any discounts). The version tested here is electric one (can`t you get a subsidy for that) which is coupled with the highest spec possible. However that is still pricey indeed. But like it or not hybrids and EVs are expensive. But anyone criticising should ask themselves what`s the most direct competition (EV in this case ofcourse) and how much does it cost.
The prices for these cars are fucking ridiculous
Peugeot are not that bad
Petition for CarWow to stop posting at night and go back to the original time.
Night for who? I am in the UK, but it was daytime for the US
@@anemeth9281 I am in South Africa 😭😂😂
Not yet another generic electric 'SUV' 😭
My 2 Peugeot 2008s gave been truly excellent cars: quick, quiet, economical, distinctive, practical and lovely to be in. The build quality is excellent and I've had no reliability issues. Peugeot offer excellent buying deals so buying meets most pockets. Getting a 308 next. Citroen and Renault are tempting be though. Allez French cars!
Okay you love your city car I get that, but be honest would you pay 55000€ for this?
@@Omgiamsotriggered most people will
Say for yourself
@@tochukwuezinwa2122 most people definitely will not lmao. It will sell 208,308 and lesser SUVs, but nobody giving them 55k for a Peugeot that will lose 80% of its value in 2 years
@Omgiamsotriggered Actually the price starts at 37k hybrid
Still very much affordable to compare most brands.
New Peugeots just looks fantastic.👌

Went to order new 5008 last week and find out changed the back seats back to a bench seat and families back to struggling not able to fit car seats in yet claim a family car, I have the 5008 Gt line 2020 and best car with the boot and 3 separate seats in 2nd row so can fit all 3 car seats with no struggle, why did they change the seats their best selling point of this car??!!! Their lose sales for that reason
Car prices are going nuts

We just bought one. Honestly, the best price for what you get. Sure, you can go all in with the Hyundai Santa Fe, but the price is almost 50% more. There isn't much options for the 7-seaters, probably 10 cars. Peugeot is the best in the mid-range
What are you drinking? 50% more for a Hyundai? So you are saying that a Santa Fe costs £76k?
@@shortfattoad7317€, but yeah, belive it or not Santa Fe’s go up to 70000€. Its crazy whats going on a market, 10 years ago bmw X5 was 70k.
They are both about the same price, the manufacturers know what they are doing. If you want an electric car with a 75kw battery, you will pay around this price, the Tesla model 3 long range is about 50k plus extras.
What happen to carwow quality of the film ? Since so poor now
£50k for a Peugeot is insane.
Why it would be? Peugeots are really good reliable cars these days and much more reliable than Germans. That's the fact. And much cheaper too so why would you not pay 50£k for Peugeot and rather German which will break more and cost lot more to fix too. I own Peugeots for over 14 years and all were faultless cars. I own 2 atm. 308 GTi BPS for over 7 years and 308 SW 2l HDI 7 seater which is 16 years old with over 190k on clock and it's running sweet no issues whatsoever! I been driving with them all over Europe doing thousands of miles no problem. On the other hand my mates with Mercs, BMW and Audi keep breaking all the time 🙆
Much prefer the 2021 models of both the 3008/5008
Who else watch car reviews because they just like cars ?
😂
