  • Peugeot's seven-seater 5008 is going electric (but don't worry, there's still a couple of hybrids coming), making it what we think might be a brilliant everyday balance between style, space and sanctity. Jordan's been in Paris to see what all the fuss is about, and whether this might be your next tax-friendly family car...

      This was actually the thing that separated 5008 from for example Skoda Kodiaq. With 3 kids and two of them still in child seats I really need the 3 separate seats and isofix also in the middle seat. This is a deal breaker for me at least. I probably couldn't afford it anyways so doesn't matter :D

      @@Zirmas If you only look the screen, sure, no physical buttons on the screen 😅. But 4 seconds before (2:16) you can see plenty of buttons on the steering wheel, sticks full of buttons behind the steering wheel, a start stop button, a nice big metallic button to choose R/N/D, some physical buttons and even physical rolling buttons on top of the central console (2:56), many buttons on the door handles, etc. And yes, you will need the screen to enter your destination or to select a specific music or a specific radio (at least if you don't want to use the voice recognition physical button on the steering wheel) but what are you asking for ? A full size computer keyboard ? And of course there are all the things you do when parked, eg configuring the wifi, programming the charge, adjusting some parameters that you will probably never change again, etc. I don't know if they are buttons for all that but who cares, when parked a tactile screen is far better and enables big UI/UX updates over the air. And honestly, it is about the same in a Tesla, ie physical buttons for all you need *while driving* but sadly most "journalists" and "youtube reviewers" don't take the time to read the manual.

It's very common nowadays for manufacturers to remove those buttons, which honestly are nice to have. Fortunately Peugeot and many others have good voice command recognition, so you can even operate those hands-free. Even better can buttons!

      Peugeot (as many Stellantis brands) loves platforms compatible with many motorization : hybrid, PHEV an EV. The pro is to be able to sell to people who are not ready to go electric, or at least think they are not. One of the drawback is that they haven't as a lot of space for the battery than with a dedicated EV platform. So no big battery if you want or need two motors, and off course no frunk at all. And we won't have LFP either, not dense enough, or many with an even smallest battery but it will be a joke with such a big car. My 2 cents is that carmakers who are still investing in ICE will have huge short time benefits but also huge losses in less than a decade, and many won't survive. Off course CIOs will be ok, and some (well informed) shareholders will sell in time, but most shareholders will loose a lot and most employees will be out of job without any of the (electric) training needed to move to an other carmaker.

    If you want a lowest price 7 sitter EV new car, the only choices you've got currently are: EV9, this E-5008 and the EQB.
    The EQB doesn't have a dedicated EV platform, the EV9 is very nice but just a bit too big for many European cities.
    The E-5008 is the only one left over. Too bad it doesn't have one-pedal-drive, also it doesn't have LFP battery, so you can't charge to 100% on a daily base. Also the E-3008 infotainment system (which is similar to the E-5008 one) looks slow with too many animations.

    • @didierpuzenat7280
      @didierpuzenat7280 2 місяці тому +2

      Since it is *not* a dedicated EV platform, there is not enough space for a LFP battery, you cannot even have the big battery if you choose to have the AWD version. But charging at 80% on a daily basis is not a big issue, and maybe 100% if you plan a big trip the next day.

      Maybe it will be available in some countries, but in France -- ie the main market for this SUV -- in 2024 a "3.0 biturbo engine" would add a 60 k€ "CO2 penalty" (aka "malus") to the price, since it will be more than 194 grams of CO2 per km. Not to mention at least 3000 € if "weight penalty". So about 100 000 €. So no, it will be electric or PHEV or a small 1.2 liters 3 cylinders engine for a small CO2 penalty (and off course the 3000 € for the weight). And off course then you have to pay to fill the tank, the maintenance, the repairs, (...), for many years.

      You don't really though. Most of the stellantis group cars can be bought on 'offer' for around 10000 less than the asking price. On average their RRP around £10-15000 more than equivalent ICE cars, so with said 'offer' they become almost comparable in price and cheaper to run and maintain.
      Why the stellantis group do this, is something I'll never quite understand.

    • @Felixmax507

      Ok you pay 10-15000 for batteries then as electricity cost even more then fuel. You might say it is cheaper if you charge at home. Yes, but it is even cheaper and environmentally friendlier if you use public transport. Cars always meant freedom of movement but with ev is just another tax for gullable.

    • @wrutherfordx3x
      @wrutherfordx3x 2 місяці тому +7

      Wow, your argument is flawed. Yes, electricity costs far less than fuel to the point I'm saving £0.10 a mile. £10k every 100k miles. I don't pay Big Oil. I don't pay the Middle East anything. My tailpipe is not causing respiratory illnesses to all and sundry. My battery is under warranty so I'll never pay £20k for a new one. Even second hand EVs are mostly still under warranty. My neighbours petrol Honda CRV engine went belly up a year or so ago. Was still just under warranty, but if they hadn't been, what cost a new engine? Face it, EVs are ultimately cheaper, if not from the outset, especially in the 2nd hand car market. And if you want to get a bus, get a bus, but doing so has no relevance in the debate about EVs. That's just you going off on a weird tangent.

However, yes, if you are alone in your car this SUV "don't environmentally make sense", just use public transportation or try a bicycle or eventually a quite smaller EV. This car is for couples with 4 or 5 children and it makes "environmentally sense" when compared to ICE family cars with 7 seats.

      @@mitchreeves1 Low or even no CO2 emission at all when driving. And thanks to the 95% efficiency of an electric motor, compared to less than 30% for an internal combustion engine, the CO2 emission are lower even in the very rare worst scenario of an electricity produced with coal, even off course taking into account the construction of the car and of the battery. So the only solution for individual cars regarding climate warming. Furthermore no pollution, so the only reasonable solution is densely populated cities. And no noise, a pollution that has a big toll on human mental heath and animal live. Not to mention the effect of digging for petrol in the first place, a process more and more polluting as petrol is harder to get. And it has nothing to do with what *I* think. The transition to EVs for ground transportation is the easiest thing we have to do to fight global warming, with also better public transportation, bicycle lanes and walkable cities. The only alternative to EVs is no car at all, and in 2035 not owning a car will definitively be the choice of most people in cities, at least in Europe. If transitioning away from ICE is too difficult for you, good luck when you will have to move in a smaller home, eat quite less meat, stop flying, pay everything a lot more, etc. Being net zero by 2050 is not an easy task, but ending ICE is quite easy.

    • @mitchreeves1
      @mitchreeves1 2 місяці тому +1

      @didierpuzenat7280 i can agree on a few things. People who live in big cities do not need a car, it's pointless. And a lot of people use their cars for stupidly short journey. Noise pollution is also a plus with EV's and their torque levels are awesome, but that's about the only things good about having an EV. They are incredibly unresourceful, are by far the dirtiest way build a car. Their batteries have an average lifespan of 6 years, then it's either refurbished or off to landfill where the acids and over various chemical can seep into our soil and water supply. Child labour is insane with cobalt mining as well. Then there's all the excess weight of an EV, they are far more dangerous to pedestrians and other road users when hit, and they get through tyres quickly and tear up the road with all the excess weight they have. It's a total con between the governments and their 'green' big business investors. The only true green alternative is Hydrogen, the most abundant resource in our whole galaxy, that is the fuel of the future. Give it 5 more years and we will hear of it's true wonders (but not before they make their billions off of the gullible idiots who believe everything they say, first).

    • @didierpuzenat7280
      @didierpuzenat7280 2 місяці тому

      @@mitchreeves1 You do know that EV batteries are not lead acid batteries, do you ? The battery of my car has a warranty of 8 years, do you think a manufacturer would be stupid enough to give such a long warranty on a very expansive component with an average lifespan of 6 years ? Most EV battery last longer than the car, Renault use the battery of the dead Zoes (an EV produced since 2012) for stationary electricity storage. No EV battery ends in a landfill, they are too valuable, because a battery is mostly made of metals and you can recycle metals endlessly. And sure there are also some polymers that are not recycled for now, and some "chemical products", eg solvents, toxic only if swallowed as many products you use on a daily basis eg to clean your home, dishes, clothes, etc. And what is the link between child labor and the environment ? Child labor is a politic issue and I guess you would not care at all if it was not an anti-EV argument, I doubt you even know where Congo is. Anyway, there is no cobalt in recent LFP batteries, but cobalt is used to produce the gas you buy at the gas station. So are you going to stop using your gas car ? To save children from child labor ? And weight does not make accident more deadly, speed does, and SUVs, so speed must be limited and SUVs banned where there are many pedestrians. In my city the speed limit is 30 km/h (18 mph) on most roads. And my city charges SUVs much more than sedans to park, to dissuade people to buy SUVs. And sure more weight means more tires particles, but EVs use their brakes far less than ICE cars so less brake particles. And of course ICE cars emit a lot of pollution, not just CO2. But cars also take too much space in cities, so they should not be used for daily transportation. For example, even if I own an EV, I am going to work with my bicycle, my wife walks to work, and my children are using public (electric) transportation. And what link do you see between government and "green big business" ? Europe had zero EV industry and the world best ICE industry, but Europe is switching to EVs anyway. Do you think Europeans leaders are destroying their car industry because of a mysterious pact with some "'green big business" ? This is just madness. And yes hydrogen is abundant in our galaxy but on Earth is it present mostly as water and you need far more energy to produce hydrogen from water by electrolysis than you can get electricity back with a fuel cell. And after being produced hydrogen must be compressed, transported, distributed, and it cannot even be used by the car without going though a fuel cell and even a battery. It takes 5 times more electricity to run a "hydrogen car" that a battery car, so 5 times more solar farms, wind turbines, nuclear power plants, etc. Hydrogen as no future in ground transportation, not even in trains. BTW, green hydrogen is great but to replace the hydrogen used in the industry since it is produced from "fossil resources" with huge CO2 emissions. So maybe you just did not understood what you have been watching. Hydrogen is far to expansive to produce to be use to produce electricity ! Please, stop watch fox news and instead read some books, or at least stop commenting on youtube.
