  • In today's episode, we started our adventure at the Main Farm by getting equipment ready to work for the day, I met with a concrete engineer for the $1M Bin Site law-suit, we started testing a Degelman High Speed Disk (and discovered a small problem with it), the lime spreading crew arrived at Bill's Farm and started to spread crushed limestone, we completely emptied our first soybean bin, we completely emptied our second soybean bin, and we hooked the John Deere 4840 up to the moldboard plow.

You should buy a plastic hopper for your auger to put under the bin augers. It makes clean up a lot easier.

Yeah, I'm surprised they don't have a canvas bag slung off the bin discharge auger for the mobile auger inlet. Then you wouldn't need the hole in the ground either - you could have it offset.

Cole... if you have the other grain cart just sitting in the shop, why not bring that one out too? You could load up both carts while the drivers are gone... you have a full load there ready for when they pull in. Depending on the timing of how they arrive.. you could speed up your loads for them like that.

Hmmm maybe a rubber mat ( like they have under dishwasher machines)mounted under the auger would help capture beans that spill. Or maybe some sort of open topped funnel to push the beans into the auger . Got be a better way to capture the spill , you worked so hard for it . Zero waste a good goal 🥅.

A few things from a bystander.
    First if all SAFETY:
BELT COVERS ON EVERYTHING WITH BELTS AND PULLEYS, so many people have lost their life and limbs from those. Concrete below all bins emptying augers makes you less messy and more efficient.
All bins with the need for grain vac should be vacced to a large grain cart that can carry atleast one entire semi load.
All the slow bins should also be emptied into the large grain cart, no one is making money from being loaded for 45 minutes. KEEP THOSE TRUCKS ROLLING!🤑

If that moldboard is onland, take the sway blocks off the lift arms. Measure from center to center on the top and bottom pins that lift the lift arms of your 3-point and make sure they are both the same. And soak those bottoms in diesel to help get the rust off so they will start shedding.

Cole, thank you for including your viewers in a small view of the private and or technical discussion you have in relation to the large grain bins. Truly you don't even need to do that. Just surprise us when everything gets sorted and settled. Your viewers have to realise it is a long and tedious process requiring many hours of technical and legal information to be able to reach a logical and concisive result for both you and the contractor and having a fair and precise result.

You should look into pneumatic bin vibrators, we use them on our flour silos....everything goes into the feed auger, except when something goes wrong.
I have to suit up and shovel 1000's of pounds of flour for the fix 😱
Also (just a suggestion) a tarp or catch pan at the base of your feed connections might save on cleanup times and waste 🙂
Humbly submitted, these work with industrial bakery product, I can only share what I know works for what I work with 😁

Cole. I see you digging cremations with the auger in the loader. That's fine but cut a hole in a sheet of plywood a little bit bigger than the auger and cleanup would be allot faster. Just slide the plywood out of the way and cover with a tarp and leave the dirt on the sheet of plywood. And it would be nice and clean. When you are filling the hole back up wouldn't it be easier to pour some water into it to help pack it and use ca concrete vibrator.

if you want to make that end lighter what we did with commercial vac trucks was that hose or piping like you use for tiling drains duck tape in on those other hoses we had sleves to go in it from the truck then on the end we just had a cheap broom handle like you get for push brooms at lowes adn duck tape it on back and fourth twist it and cross with x's for a bit but its way lighter by the looks of it move around

the ripping and discing should help quite a bit - you should purchase of fab one like you did with plow, the lime will help a bunch, compost and cow manure could help even more, offset chemical applications and more permanently solve compaction issues - your soil is still the same now is the issue but since it has no been ripped for so long you still should see some results - you need to do a/b tests to home in on optimal results

we mostly grow wheat and barley and rapeseed with twice wheat, once barley and once rapeseed. who knows, it is a rule of thumb that we use approx. 1 ton of lime per year. so as a rule of thumb. if a man gives between 4.5 tonnes and 5.5 tonnes of lime for 5 years, then it is in balance. where soil is taken, try to be 5 years to see if it is one or the other lime amount, but as a rule it is 5 tons every 5 years, preferably after the rape field. since wheat pays the most for the lime bust.
