I love watching your videos. I think you provide the highest quality watch reviews on UA-cam. Keep up the good work. Don't let a few envious people discourage you. Greetings from Los Angeles.
Christian Cerna dude you crack me up! But remember, a native English speaker can't have an accent . It's a dialect. You don't really have an accent as you've done well to not have it.
Years ago on the Johnny Carson show Fernando Lamas said: "Never make fun of someone with an accent because it's likely he speaks at least two languages"
Used to always apologise for my accent until one of my bosses told me not to. “An accent tells me something about you. Perfect school English accent says nothing of you”. I still think my accent sounds funny in English but it was hearth worming to hear.
Currently rewatching some older videos and I have to to say your "attitude" towards certain topics makes me reflect and question my own behavior and in general my person. You are doing an amazing job and it's not all about watches!
Very nice question-and-answer. I also have no taste whatsoever for drama here on UA-cam. Frankly any channel that airs their laundry is probably one I'm not interested in subscribing to. Class and character is earned even in our past-times; I always try to remember this when I'm making my own content. Cheers, Andrew
Stumbled on your channel just looking for the proper way to install a Nato strap, your channel's been a great help learning what to look for and how to get a quality watch without spending a fortune. I'm by no means a collector, but I appreciate the helpful, unpretentious advice across all price levels and needs. Good to know more about your background, too. Thanks!
TGV!!! I just binge watched tons of your vids. The progression between then and now is very inspiring. You got waaaaay more confident in front of the camera, it shows. I agree with a lot of people. I always come back to your channel. Very informative and it goes beyond watches and horology. It's about being the best that you can with class and gentlementality ... ( if that makes any sense, anyway)
+Mario Pierre, yeah I like his videos too, just saw some foul mouthed fat man distrsrespecting TGV who is like u said gentelmently without being stuck up - just being OG = himself which I know brings alot of jealously and alot a hayters (like this archibald channel) dude, puttin urslef out there on YT takes GUTS, but TGV is above that bro
Hi Tgv thank you for providing a quality channel. It's a breath of fresh air to be able to listen to gentlemen discussing healthy topics without name calling or childish banter.
This is one of the more entertaining "about me" videos on yt. the topic on handling conflicts (privately not publicly) is an indication of the "gentry" part of this channel. the last part about your career path is a humbling down to earth convo that ties back to the "urban" feeling. that analogy of the baker off work really hits home. surprisingly great video not related to horology :) you might wanna look into story telling, maybe write a book haha
3:45 The first clip I've watched from your channel was about Orient Bambino -- I knew it then, by the way you pronounce "Bambino"... all rough English language, then suddenly a bit of color when you say "bambino". Unmistakable!
As a linguist I can tell you why people adapt their accent accordingly: it has to to with establishing relational closeness, creating rapport. Every person in every situation adapts their idiolect (your own personal, unique pattern of pronunciation) to the person they are conversing with. Some people think it is a sign of a lack of character, but it is just very normal human behavior ;) However, language is also still riddled with perhaps a bit outdated ideas about status, elite, class et cetera, as if there is a 'proper' way to speak, as if you can classify people judged on their accent. I have lived in an area of the Netherlands where people speak with a different 'g' sound than the harsh Dutch sound, and it would betray that I am from another part, and people would start apologizing, it frightened them a bit! Very strange experience. Also, if you speak to me shortly I have a very English sounding ('normal') accent and British people would ask me "which part of England I was from" and I would say: "I'm Dutch" and they would be very embarrassed. (ah...British people ;-)) I now mainly speak English with one of my best mates who is from Glasgow so I hear Scottish elements in my own speech...et cetera et cetera! I used to work as an English teacher and have lived in Yorkshire for a while and when I was back in the Netherlands all of a sudden I noticed I was teaching the children in a Yorkshire accent! This was quite funny, actually, these Dutch kids saying "bus" ('boos') and "sunglasses" ("soonglahhssis") ... couldn't help myself. So...such a joy, such interesting, human speech, linguistics!
+annedien WOW, I love your comments Annedien, they either teach me something new or make me laugh. You must be quite something to know in person :-) soonglaahhsssis!!! LOLOL, Thank you so much for sharing that. Best regards, TGV
+annedien Accents in speaking are very interesting. My grandparents are from Germany and lived in North Carolina. I spent much time with them and German was spoken in the house but English outside of it. In speaking German I have the German accent. Yet in English it is obviously southern. Many people have asked when they learn my background why I have no German accent. But I went to school with southern english speakers and they were my friends. I adopted how they talked. People have no idea just how fast a person will adopt an accent.
Interesting, because I would have thought it would have been. But when your first language is at times a mix between two then that can create confusion. That was however many years ago, and I really have no need for the German now. My father was not much for speaking it except to his mother, father and brothers. I miss it in some ways. You come in from talking with your playmates in one language and then start in another. My friends were always fascinated when they would visit and hear us talking in German, and I would explain to them what my Grandfather had said. Usually when I had forgot to do something and he did not want them to know.
I love watching your videos. I think you provide the highest quality watch reviews on UA-cam. Keep up the good work. Don't let a few envious people discourage you. Love from Pakistan
Thanks for the in depth intro. From the first video of yours I watched as I got more and more interested in watches, I knew you were a classy fellow. Your education and your excitement shine through your videos and I really like the quiet, well phrased, presentation more than the more bombastic presentations. Keep up the great work.
Man... I love your videos. Love the attention to detail. As far someone asking you to response to critics, I say: " Best revenge is living well" - Jerry Seinfeld
Loving your videos my friend, I'm going to highly recommend you to my friends, I have to be honest when I fell upon your videos I thought to myself, oh dear, this guy is going to to be a right knob! Haha, but I was pleased to find you to be a fantastic knowledgeable guy and a joy to watch, I'm working my way through your reviews, thanks matey, David
TGV, Keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel, reviews and comments, and like that you respect others and concentrate on the positives. The career stuff is very interesting. Really enjoy your watch reviews which are insightful and detailed. Hope to see more.
Thanks for sharing your opinions and a little about yourself. Your watch reviews are top notch and your delivery of the content are just as good or better. Keep it real, TVM!!! You're a cool dude.
Just subscribed and going through old vids to pass the time. I like the way that you don't just talk about watches, you create informative and entertaining content. Thanks for making me smile these last few days!
Thank you Tristano. You have the best watch channel on UA-cam. It's great to see someone who can enjoy their passion at all levels. Because of that, you can connect with other watch enthusiasts at all levels too. I get great satisfaction from my modest collection of Seiko, Orient and Swatch, and it's nice to see than you can too - despite having the resources to acquire truly top end stuff. You're a man of the people and are indeed a gentleman. Chapeau!
I just started watching your Channel, so thought I would catch up with some of your earlier videos, and I haven't seen a boring one yet. Thanks to you I am now the proud owner of a Stowa Watch, cheers from Australia.
The quote you were looking for was by Slim Charles, and it was "The game the same; it just got more fierce." Great, great show. Keep up the good work. I'm especially enjoying the comparison videos. It's a cool format.
Michael Herman Wow, you know your Wire! Gotta respect that. Just catching up with the comments now so apologies for the slow response. I will certainly keep the comparative reviews coming ;-) Best regards, TGV
This is so crazy because this is one of my favorite videos. You had the passion so pure so honest I still see this man in all your videos. Another really weird thing to do is watch a current video and then turn this one on. It's like watching your alter ego or something. Now your 100% all comfy in front of the of the camera. This should be motivation.
Hey. Just red Dr. Nesta Webster`s "World revolution". Nice book written by a historian. Google it up if you got any trust to YT comment section advisors ], it is good. Have a nice day, man.
What an excellent and engaging video! I was particularly taken with your explanation of your philosophy regarding 'arguments' between (I presume) other horological online personalities and/or particular makes of watch. You take the high ground - which is indeed becoming for a gentleman - and that is admirable. Thanks for the insights.
This was hilarious and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for making this. Great classy way to handle the rather peculiar FAQs but the tone is a good breath of fresh air.
You are a really cool "Chap" and a true inspiration. I've recently discovered your channel and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Keep up the good work as I decide what watch I want to buy next....Cheers mate.
As a half english and spanish educated in Madrid , Croydon and Bournemoth I love hearing an accent I can understand up to the smallest twang , most refreshing, and now hooked onto horology for my delight. Great video.
TGV Thanks for sharing some of the insights. Very interesting. I wish you all the best and looking forward to hear and see more from you. Keep up the excellent work. MJ
Been watching your newer videos now for a while. Pretty wonderful stuff. Just kinda clicked on this older one on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised to get a sense of the way you value consistency. Shows a lot of character. Keep doing what your doing man! You and Marc (Long Island Watch) seem to be all the youtube I'm watching these days! (P.S. Can't wait for your upcoming review of Invicta)
I'm a newbie in the world of watches, been following you for a while now every day at night. (Ok that did not sound good) I mean your videos. Cant get enough of them, you are an inspiration to what a gentleman should be. Cheers.
You are a good and classy person with a real passion for what you love. That’s why I really enjoy your videos. I’m more of an outdoorsy type but I’ve developed a real interest for watches from your videos. At some point I can see myself having a three watch collection. Thanks for making these videos!
Hey man! Thanks for another great video! I really appreciate your channel. I have been a subscriber since I discovered it a while ago. I recently also bought my first automatic diver, a Seiko SKX007, and your videos was to great help in deciding which model etc. So a big thanks for that! So far, I'm really satisfied with the watch! You also seem like a nice guy, a really "down-to-earth" person with good life values. So keep up the good work, looking forward to more videos. Take care! Best regards from Sweden, J.
Jack Karlsson Hi Jack,So glad you like the show and especially glad you got an SKX, you really can't go wrong there. Thank you for the kind words regarding me and the channel. I am honoured to have you as a viewer. Best regards, TGV P.s. I LOVE SWEDEN!!! :-D
I know this video is a few years old, but I just tuned in to the urban Gentry in the last month. This is great stuff, TGV! Keep it classy, gentlemanly!
My Dad was lebanese, and he went to medical school in France. His way of speaking french varied considerably depending on whom he was speaking with. That was very funny. :)
I actually saw a youtuber from the "M7" call your reviews boring a few months back. Can't please everyone, your videos are classy and informative. Keep up the great work :)
darksilver129 Hi, thank you for the comment, I am truly honoured. As long as I have the support and quality of viewers such as yourself, I don't worry what the "malicious 6" think or do. Best possible regards, TGV Ps. Apologies for the slow response.
You quoting the Two Ronnies just confirms the wisdom of my decision to subscribe. Love them! Great job on the channel. You've helped me get into the hobby, so thank you for the help and advice.
Hi TGV. I share most of the opinions here. Partly because of you I got more interested in horology and doing my own research . I really enjoy watching your vids, not only because they are educative and entertaining, but also because I feel the love and respect you have for what you are talking about . Keep up the good work ! Saludos desde Perú.
Hi Tristano! I so much love your generosity which seems to me absolutely obvious just as your enthusiasm about watches. :) Greetings from Scotland. Robert
Great work TGV and I really liked your polite discussion of some of the more ridiculous comments and channels. You are right, that stuff is juvenile and actually really disturbing! Classy way to cover things, bravo.
Didn't realize this video is from 3 years ago! And yes I'm a fairly new subscriber and I definitely dig all the videos I've gone through so far and many more to go! TGV keep up the great work on your channel here and thanks for sharing just a little about yourself to us here also I've been out of the watch game for awhile and I'm just getting back in by one watch at a time...Thanks Again all the way from California!
Don't worry about the sound. It's always the content that shines through, bc that's what's important on UA-cam! And you sir have excellent content! Keep it up!
I like your channel a lot! I expierenced it a few days ago and already watched dozens of your videos. Your enthusiasm is remarkable, the videos very informative and entertaining! Keep that "real-men-don´t-do-troll-wars-thing" up :) love it! I know this is broken english....... spoken perfectly ;) and i am sry for that! >>>>>> Greetz from Germany!!! - Volker
Primarily I watch the show for your knowledge but its your unique and enjoyable personality that makes it entertaining. I know it's difficult, but ignore the haters and never feel the need to explain or justify why or how you do what you do.
I really appreciate your videos and I enjoy them more perhaps for your extemporaneous delivery than for the information sometimes. I think you've got some great ideas, thoughts and philosophies You've become a bit of a hero to me, and I'm hard to impress - honestly I started watching you because I was looking for a review of a watch I liked, and here I am listening to you talk about everything but watches for a half an hour at 4:00 am and enjoying it. Keep doing what you're doing and don't sweat it when people criticize. I almost feel like you should make another channel on civility itself. Carry on being exceptional.
Its tough putting yourself out there in the public eye. Especially with the way people act online. Hiding behind an online alias and spewing hate and everything else that comes along with their online "muscles" and bravery. I appreciate you commenting in this post about how a real man handles things. Refreshing. Kudos to you for doing what you do and always keeping it classy.
I came across this video TVG and I loved it. My wife is American as well. Born and raised in Italy I moved to US a lot time ago, but my typical English with an Italian accent is still there. Beautiful sharing of this part of the painting, something like a detail that you spot in the corner of majestic painting. Thank you for sharing fragments of your life with us. A big admiration goes to your hard work and effort to build a career and professionality and a self employed path in this difficult world.
Hi TGV. In the first instance, sorry to hear about your medical issues and hope that your recovery is both speedy and permanent. I have watched a number of your videos. However, I found this to be the most endearing and watchable. The last section, when you discuss your occupation is, in my opinion, your best piece ever to camera. The manner in which you engage the listener appears authentic; you speak lucidly - whilst you are not appearing to deliberate in order to impress a listener with flowery vocabulary. I am sure you are genuine in your strategy to be something of a renaissance man, hoping you have a positive effect upon others. Nevertheless, that last section appeared to be the real you - and was extremely engaging.
I just recently started watching your channel and have become interested in watches. I think your channel is great, very up beat positive person. Keep it going, don't let the negative people in.
TGV....I used to watch the other "channels"...but yours is the only one I watch...a true representation of how to appreciate the finer things in life... without fakery, pretentiousness, or obscene language. I appreciate your channel, sir!
Thanks for the openness and insights into who you are. It gives an extra level of connection to you that adds to the enjoyment of your channel. By the way, your accent is just fine in my book and I can identify with your comments concerning it to some extent. I grew up in a small town in eastern Tennessee with a southern accent with a bit of an Appalachian twang thrown in. That faded as I left to go out into the world in my early 20s and I now have a neutral American accent--the sort you might hear on network television. I can't even intentionally duplicate the original accent anymore, although people tell me that I slip back into it when they hear me in a phone conversation with someone from the area where I grew up.
Very well said. I can say it feels very lightly and positively after watching your videos. Sometimes, when looking at a watch I catch myself speaking (hearing) "Very nice piece" in a very slight British accent :)
I can not remember the last time I commented on a video,.....anyone's vlog....but, Brother, I wanted to let you know how much I like and appreciate your channel. I'm a 20 year veteran firefighter with two wonderful children in college and a wonderful wife. I've only recently taken a light interest in horology and found your channel. You do a fantastic job! Keep up the good work...I like the natural way you open up to the audience......great job!!
Great video,....and nice to see and hear more about you as a person. And you totaly right about agnoring the negative feedbacks. They not worth your time at all..........cheers.
I'm new to your channel I thoroughly enjoy the reviews and you inspire me to step my game up , don't mind the small minded individuals it's coming from being jealous of what or who they aren't . Keep up the good work bro .
I thought I was completely imagining the Italian influence on your accent - I'm relatively new to the channel - and loving it, as I've said in many comments. This was interesting and it's very nice to know you all the more.
Just came across your channel lately (of course because of watches), so I've been browsing through your videos. Your content is just extraordinaire, so keep up the good work. (From a fellow audio engineer)
Good video TGV! I have to say, watching your uploads each week is like meeting up with a dear friend. Your a likeable, knowledgeable guy, who speaks on a neutral level with the viewer.. Kind Regards
I love your channel man. Really classy with nice features and well made videos. I look at other channels that showcase watches and its always break-the-bank pieces and they always call brands under 10k terrible. You're also a pretty cool guy overall.
ProjectDarkHound Hi, thank you so much, your comment really made my day. There is so much great brands and watches under 10k, in fact I would say all the best ones are! Thanks for the support, more on the way! Best regards, TGV
Great video TGV i think if you've watched a lot of your videos you'll probably know the answers and your thoughts on these matters.. Thanks for sharing..
I love watching your videos. I think you provide the highest quality watch reviews on UA-cam. Keep up the good work. Don't let a few envious people discourage you.

Thank you so much Esteban, you have inspired handmade my day with your words.
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
By closing doors you will open new ones ! Enjoyed this video my friend keep up the good work.

Happy new year TGV!!! May you and your loved ones find yourselves, healthy, happy, loved and prosperous!!
Well said TGV. You’re a class act. We need more people like you in this world.
Take care!
Best regards from Sweden,
J.
Jack Karlsson Hi Jack,So glad you like the show and especially glad you got an SKX, you really can't go wrong there.
Thank you for the kind words regarding me and the channel. I am honoured to have you as a viewer.
Best regards,
TGV
P.s. I LOVE SWEDEN!!! :-D
Thank you, well done. Love your channel and reviews, keep up the good work.
Best possible regards,
TGV
Ps. Apologies for the slow response.
You quoting the Two Ronnies just confirms the wisdom of my decision to subscribe. Love them! Great job on the channel. You've helped me get into the hobby, so thank you for the help and advice.
+Philip Manwaring Haha, so glad to hear. Welcome aboard!
Gotta love the Two Ronnies ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
Amazing to realise you are an audio engineer, I am one my self and really enjoy your channel!
Nice vid, cheers man! - I often binge watch the HELL out of your content too and 15 watches in, I’m still hooked (and a little poorer) 😂
Keep on going we do love your quality work and passionate attitude Sir
Hi TGV. I share most of the opinions here. Partly because of you I got more interested in horology and doing my own research . I really enjoy watching your vids, not only because they are educative and entertaining, but also because I feel the love and respect you have for what you are talking about . Keep up the good work ! Saludos desde Perú.
Thank you so much Pedro,
Best regards,
TGV
TGV, Thanks for the excellent work!! Don't change. You are doing great !
TGV!, absolutely fantastic channel and very much enjoy your work! Thanks for what you do!!!
Hi Tristano! I so much love your generosity which seems to me absolutely obvious just as your enthusiasm about watches. :)
Greetings from Scotland.
Robert
Great work TGV and I really liked your polite discussion of some of the more ridiculous comments and channels. You are right, that stuff is juvenile and actually really disturbing! Classy way to cover things, bravo.
You have (seemingly) very well-planned videos and clear presentation - things that most channels don't. Keep up the great videos.
+The Joe Poe Show Thank you Joe, very kind of you to say indeed!
Best regards,
TGV
Didn't realize this video is from 3 years ago! And yes I'm a fairly new subscriber and I definitely dig all the videos I've gone through so far and many more to go!
TGV keep up the great work on your channel here and thanks for sharing just a little about yourself to us here also I've been out of the watch game for awhile and I'm just getting back in by one watch at a time...Thanks Again all the way from California!
Great vid, very intriguing. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
Don't worry about the sound. It's always the content that shines through, bc that's what's important on UA-cam! And you sir have excellent content! Keep it up!
Pure class... well put and please keep up the good work.
Does the innit governor accent come out after a few stellas 😂
Lance Freelance omg I laughed so hard, it just caught me off guard!!
Was expecting an “oi bruv” tbh
How about a get me blood looool
Wow can't believe I'm just now seeing this. Interesting!
- Volker
TGV, I’m really glad i found your channel. You’re advise and comments in this video showcase your wisdom, integrity and intelligence.
Primarily I watch the show for your knowledge but its your unique and enjoyable personality that makes it entertaining. I know it's difficult, but ignore the haters and never feel the need to explain or justify why or how you do what you do.
Good video as always +The Urban Gentry-TGV! Nice book collection also. The SAS Survival Handbook is a good book for everyone to have around.
+Josh Ferguson Thank you Josh :D
Best regards,
TGV

I love your channel and your passion for horology... keep it up! Your such an inspiring and pleasant person! Grettings from Basel Switzerland :)
I just recently started watching your channel and have become interested in watches. I think your channel is great, very up beat positive person. Keep it going, don't let the negative people in.
Bach violin concerto 1, great taste as always! More q&as!
TGV, Omar Little was the best on the wire! "Money don't have no owners, only spenders" Great vid!
lowgizzle Thank mate, Omar, what a legendary character.
Best regards,
TGV
TGV....I used to watch the other "channels"...but yours is the only one I watch...a true representation of how to appreciate the finer things in life... without fakery, pretentiousness, or obscene language. I appreciate your channel, sir!
Thank you Joseph, very flattered and honoured sir. Really makes my day to hear that, makes it all worth it.
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you TGV, from a Canadian biker who appreciates and understands watches a whole lot more with your informative and entertaining videos.
Very well said. I can say it feels very lightly and positively after watching your videos. Sometimes, when looking at a watch I catch myself speaking (hearing) "Very nice piece" in a very slight British accent :)
You really are an inspiration to us all, TGV! A gentleman in our present day society is rare indeed. I aspire to be like you one day!
I live in Texas, and in just our state alone, there are soooo many different accents across our great state. You go with your accent. Great video!
"Real men don't air their disagreements publicly..." You, Sir, are Pure Class!
Very kind :D thank you so much,
Best regards,
TGV

I'm new to your channel I thoroughly enjoy the reviews and you inspire me to step my game up , don't mind the small minded individuals it's coming from being jealous of what or who they aren't . Keep up the good work bro .
We love your videos, keep posting!
Thank you Sergio, will do! :D
Best regards,
TGV
I thought I was completely imagining the Italian influence on your accent - I'm relatively new to the channel - and loving it, as I've said in many comments. This was interesting and it's very nice to know you all the more.
This video has convinced me that I'm proud to be a subscriber to your channel
I like your personality. I also like the exciment in your voice when you discuss watches.
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
Just came across your channel lately (of course because of watches), so I've been browsing through your videos. Your content is just extraordinaire, so keep up the good work.

ChongsBong Thank you!
Its really thanks to viewers like yourself that keep this channel going.
Apologies for the slow response.
Best regards,
TGV
I love your channel man. Really classy with nice features and well made videos. I look at other channels that showcase watches and its always break-the-bank pieces and they always call brands under 10k terrible. You're also a pretty cool guy overall.
ProjectDarkHound Hi, thank you so much, your comment really made my day.
There is so much great brands and watches under 10k, in fact I would say all the best ones are!
Thanks for the support, more on the way!
Best regards,
TGV
Love the channel mate. You're a classy bugger.
-A fellow British Expat living in the U.S of A.
