You shared so many great things here. I always try and make at least one person (that I don't know) smile each day. It's amazing what a simple "hello" and acknowledgement of their being can achieve.

Excellent video. I started taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu about two years ago. What a life changer. Extremely challenging mentally and physically. Reduces (daily) stress to zero, Think you've had a bad day? Try going into a club and fighting off a group of monsters every other night. You forget real fast whatever was bothering you that day. Not to mention, a true gentlemen should be able to defend themselves when need be.....
You are spot on about the state of modern society. It is very disheartening the lack of substance in our lives. I've also learned that being kind makes me feel so much better and makes me feel good about myself. Plato once said "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle" and it couldn't be more accurate.
you hit the nail on the head when you talked about fitness. Without health you have NOTING and health is one thing you cannot buy. I went from being super fit, to ballooning to 267lbs, then back down to 150lbs and I've been there for the past 20 years. I also don't care about all bulked up - I just want to be fit and feel good in my skin.

Great great topic, this is what diferences this channel from the rest. What really changed my life for the better was quitting coffee ( caffeine) and run more. About the litter .. I've done it a lot in the past but in the mountains. This is becoming one of my favourite youtube channels. Honestly, post more of these.

my number one thing to make me happy is to have a genuine honest conversation with someone for a short time whereby we connected as human beings without wanting anything from each other . there is a generosity to the human spirit which can be kindled just by fine tuning to the other person . in that short period I am telling them 'I see you and acknowledge your presence . I'm glad I met you today.'. no matter what the topic of the talk the basic message is always the same ....I don't know if that last part makes sense but that is how I feel in those interactions.. very nice video ..thank you.

On the days when you aren't releasing a new watch related video I head over to the archives and select a few interesting titles to watch. Tonight, this was one of those videos. I think this is one of my favorite and that's saying something because I've watched nearly all of them. My addition to your list would be exactly what brought me here and that is, take time for yourself... just you. After my wife and children go to bed and the world is done with me for the day I sit down, put my headphones on and try to watch something that will enrich my life, inform me, or add some measure of peace to my life (this video, watch collecting, documentaries etc). Your videos fulfill these requirements. Had I not decided to "cut it off" and delete my social media accounts, I'm sure I would have enjoyed your FB group as well. Every day, as soon as I wake up, I do the Wim Hof breathing method, followed by exercise, followed by a cold shower. Amazing the effect this has had on my physical and emotional well-being. Then at least an hour a day of reading history, philosophy, something that expands my mind, and at least half an hour learning a language. Brilliant video. I totally agree with your five points, one cannot stress enough how important culture and self-knowledge are not only for the modern day gentleman but in a broader perspective for a happier, more fulfilling life. Ever try meditation TGV? I was hesitant because I'm a super skeptical person and most people hawking meditation tend to be a little off the deep end... but it really is great and has changed the way I live day to day and deal with stressful situations. No better way to give your mind a workout.

Totally agree with your list. Sometimes when you get into a rut you need to add a bit of disruption to your life... Last year I changed jobs , this let me reinvent myself... Going to the gym, loosing weight, even changed the stupid crew cut that I had for the last 10 years. I have also stopped my habit of responding to emails when I am home, this is especially useful in dealing with passive aggressive emails... I love your attitude to life and how positive and encouraging you are to other UA-camrs keep it up. PS as an architect and someone who is passionate about buildings, I love your drawings of the Palladian villas. Very comparable to the symmetry in watch design...

Hey, TGV -- I started out with watching your watch videos but I am getting hooked on your personality and depth of thought. I like this video a lot because I also feel that sometimes I am being dragged down by everyday hassle and I agree with all your points here. This is one very valuable video and I thank you for that. Of course I love my watches (very PMW-ish, to be honest, but I love them nonetheless because I collected them over the past thirty years or so and they all mean a lot to me), but what really makes my life brighter these past six years or so personally is playing the guitar, or, to be more general, listening to, learning and making music. The second thing is doing some quality physical exercise. I also read a lot and help old people in my neighbourhood... and hey, I have the same office chair as you do, lol... So I think you got them all right and I could not agree with you more. Thank you for these videos, they are very enjoyable to watch and I plan to discover more and more of your channel. I have been following you for about a week, and I have watched more videos from your channel than I have anyone else I have ever followed. Not only have I loved exploring watches that you've reviewed (as well as researched others on my own), I have truly enjoyed the ambiance of your channel, especially the background art. I have recognized so many classic pieces of art that I have long adored grace your monitors. I loved that you pointed out Caravaggio and Vermeer with particular accolades: I have loved their art ever since a college Art History course I took many, many moons ago. In fact, our text book had the Vermeer painting ("the Muse," I think) on the cover. Keep up the good work! And, whenever you find yourself having failed in living up to your own high standards: do not despair. It is better to be a hypocrite on occasion than a mute preacher who challenges neither himself nor others to live a more gracious and virtuous life. We all fail to do what we know we should; that is not a reason to stop trying to call others to a more Gentlemanly way of being: it is a reminder of why it is so important and why we must press on despite our failures. What is the alternative? I failed to be a gentleman today...so never again? Hogwash. Repent and be a better gentleman tomorrow. One word for "repent" (Greek: metanoia) actually means to change one's mind; it has the connotation of actively, willfully turning around and heading in the opposite direction: setting one's sights on a higher, loftier goal. How desperately this world needs more of that! And surrounding oneself with refined art and manners is a great way to start. I love that you often challenge us to go deeper, though, than the aesthetics, the surface perceptions. So much of that art is not only beautiful, but meaningful, originating from deep thoughts, powerful experiences, and real emotions. So much better than the billboards and smut television that our contemporary "culture" peddles as "enlightened" and "liberated" society. Your channel is refreshing. Thank you!

+Steve Hardy Every day 1) do some form of exercise, swimming is my favourite as i live 10km from the great barrier reef! 2) give thanks for what you have and share a little of that with someone else as we all have more than we really need! 3) create something, write, paint, play, record, photograph ~ not for profit but for the sheer joy it will give you when someone else appreciates it! (thats my top 3, checkout my videos if your interested)
Some great points. I think it's often the simplest things that we tend to overlook or dismiss because for some reason we want to make things complicated. Like diet and exercise. Simple concepts. Hard to shake that it doesn't have to be complicated. I think we're all looking to enlighten ourselves and live positive, wonderful lives. I think these points contribute to that. Thank you, Tristano for this video. Not weird at all lol its okay to take a break from watches from time to time. I agree with every point you made especially the excersicing your body and mind and keeping away from negativity. I used to really dislike Facebook until you made the club. Now my Facebook feed is watches and people helping other people. It's a very positive place to be. This goes along with what you said, but I think everyone should have a hobby. A hobby could literally be anything that you enjoy doing and can make you happy.

Every summer I read at least 3 or 4 books before my university studies begin again. I feel that it gives me an immense advantage over my peers, has increased my vocabulary dramatically, and certainly helps with reading comprehension. I can't recommend reading enough. It truly gives you an advantage in real life. Great video! I agree on the exercise bit as well.
Fantastic video, I agree with every point! We appreciate the effort you put into all of these videos. Another point I would add is to do your best to be out of the house as much as possible, whether it be to go for a walk or just mooch around. I find i'm much happier when i've gone to meet friends on my days off instead of lounge around at home.

You are absolutely right about the positive thinking, there are people in this world that have nothing, but they still look on the bright side of life. I used to be negative on the things I didn't have, but I forgot to focus on the things that l did have. TGV - great video. Made me think. I try to do things that cause the raising of hair on the back of my neck. A few examples: loud music which helps your mind tunnel for positive memories, cooking special meals for family and friends, random chivalrous "nothings" for strangers and attempting to pass along life lessons to my kids without sounding like a 'Dad'.
Great video TGV, all important points. Over the past couple years I have found great pleasure in exercising and keeping healthy (never would have thought it to be possible). I was also lucky enough to be brought up by strange "gyspy" parents that travelled a lot, so I was exposed to many cultures from a young age, I'll always be grateful for that. Very enjoyable philosophy. I would also call it a discipline; one of self management. I like the idea of the selfless acts, but then again doing for others is usually built into people's nature. These attitudes, of which you speak, these are what we should truly call being cultured! Thanks TGV.
Your last point of selfless acts made me realise I've started doing these naturally over the past few years, I play guitar for my old school every year for a week, to open their eyes to proper music (Queen) and that hard work pays off learning an instrument. I'm also studying Economics at university and nothing is more satisfying than helping colleagues with their work or knowing a point that they didn't, because they learn new things. One of my housemates is dyslexic so when she does her coursework essays I'll always read over them before she submits them to make sure there are no mistakes and adjust them if necessary, thus helping her get better marks. Sorry for the little essay I've written, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the videos :)

I'm trying to improve my life and future but it's not easy when you don't know what you want to do than just be happy. So thank you very much. Your insight in culture and watches are at the very least interesting and for me very thought provoking. my number one thing to make me happy is to have a genuine honest conversation with someone for a short time whereby we connected as human beings without wanting anything from each other . there is a generosity to the human spirit which can be kindled just by fine tuning to the other person . in that short period I am telling them 'I see you and acknowledge your presence . I'm glad I met you today.'. no matter what the topic of the talk the basic message is always the same ....I don't know if that last part makes sense but that is how I feel in those interactions..

On the days when you aren't releasing a new watch related video I head over to the archives and select a few interesting titles to watch. Tonight, this was one of those videos. I think this is one of my favorite and that's saying something because I've watched nearly all of them.
My addition to your list would be exactly what brought me here and that is, take time for yourself... just you. After my wife and children go to bed and the world is done with me for the day I sit down, put my headphones on and try to watch something that will enrich my life, inform me, or add some measure of peace to my life (this video, watch collecting, documentaries etc). Your videos fulfill these requirements. Had I not decided to "cut it off" and delete my social media accounts, I'm sure I would have enjoyed your FB group as well. Every day, as soon as I wake up, I do the Wim Hof breathing method, followed by exercise, followed by a cold shower. Amazing the effect this has had on my physical and emotional well-being. Then at least an hour a day of reading history, philosophy, something that expands my mind, and at least half an hour learning a language.
Also, watch an Urban Gentry video ;) TGV, you're pure class, my friend. Excelsior :)

Brilliant video. I totally agree with your five points, one cannot stress enough how important culture and self-knowledge are not only for the modern day gentleman but in a broader perspective for a happier, more fulfilling life. I am looking forward to watching more videos on culture (great intro, btw) maybe listing books, films, operas, etc that shouldn't be missed, or some sort of kind of "Top 10" lists on those subjects.

Ever try meditation TGV? I was hesitant because I'm a super skeptical person and most people hawking meditation tend to be a little off the deep end... but it really is great and has changed the way I live day to day and deal with stressful situations. No better way to give your mind a workout.

Totally agree with your list. Sometimes when you get into a rut you need to add a bit of disruption to your life...
Last year I changed jobs , this let me reinvent myself... Going to the gym, loosing weight, even changed the stupid crew cut that I had for the last 10 years. I have also stopped my habit of responding to emails when I am home, this is especially useful in dealing with passive aggressive emails...
I love your attitude to life and how positive and encouraging you are to other UA-camrs keep it up.
PS as an architect and someone who is passionate about buildings, I love your drawings of the Palladian villas. Very comparable to the symmetry in watch design...

Hey, TGV -- I started out with watching your watch videos but I am getting hooked on your personality and depth of thought. I like this video a lot because I also feel that sometimes I am being dragged down by everyday hassle and I agree with all your points here. This is one very valuable video and I thank you for that. Of course I love my watches (very PMW-ish, to be honest, but I love them nonetheless because I collected them over the past thirty years or so and they all mean a lot to me), but what really makes my life brighter these past six years or so personally is playing the guitar, or, to be more general, listening to, learning and making music. The second thing is doing some quality physical exercise. I also read a lot and help old people in my neighbourhood... and hey, I have the same office chair as you do, lol... So I think you got them all right and I could not agree with you more.

I have been following you for about a week, and I have watched more videos from your channel than I have anyone else I have ever followed. Not only have I loved exploring watches that you've reviewed (as well as researched others on my own), I have truly enjoyed the ambiance of your channel, especially the background art. I have recognized so many classic pieces of art that I have long adored grace your monitors. I loved that you pointed out Caravaggio and Vermeer with particular accolades: I have loved their art ever since a college Art History course I took many, many moons ago. In fact, our text book had the Vermeer painting ("the Muse," I think) on the cover. Keep up the good work! And, whenever you find yourself having failed in living up to your own high standards: do not despair. It is better to be a hypocrite on occasion than a mute preacher who challenges neither himself nor others to live a more gracious and virtuous life. We all fail to do what we know we should; that is not a reason to stop trying to call others to a more Gentlemanly way of being: it is a reminder of why it is so important and why we must press on despite our failures. What is the alternative? I failed to be a gentleman today...so never again? Hogwash. Repent and be a better gentleman tomorrow. One word for "repent" (Greek: metanoia) actually means to change one's mind; it has the connotation of actively, willfully turning around and heading in the opposite direction: setting one's sights on a higher, loftier goal. How desperately this world needs more of that! And surrounding oneself with refined art and manners is a great way to start. I love that you often challenge us to go deeper, though, than the aesthetics, the surface perceptions. So much of that art is not only beautiful, but meaningful, originating from deep thoughts, powerful experiences, and real emotions. So much better than the billboards and smut television that our contemporary "culture" peddles as "enlightened" and "liberated" society. Your channel is refreshing. Thank you!

+Steve Hardy Every day 1) do some form of exercise, swimming is my favourite as i live 10km from the great barrier reef! 2) give thanks for what you have and share a little of that with someone else as we all have more than we really need! 3) create something, write, paint, play, record, photograph ~ not for profit but for the sheer joy it will give you when someone else appreciates it! (thats my top 3, checkout my videos if your interested)
Some great points. I think it's often the simplest things that we tend to overlook or dismiss because for some reason we want to make things complicated. Like diet and exercise. Simple concepts. Hard to shake that it doesn't have to be complicated. I think we're all looking to enlighten ourselves and live positive, wonderful lives. I think these points contribute to that. Thank you, Tristano for this video. Not weird at all lol its okay to take a break from watches from time to time. I agree with every point you made especially the excersicing your body and mind and keeping away from negativity. I used to really dislike Facebook until you made the club. Now my Facebook feed is watches and people helping other people. It's a very positive place to be. This goes along with what you said, but I think everyone should have a hobby. A hobby could literally be anything that you enjoy doing and can make you happy.

Every summer I read at least 3 or 4 books before my university studies begin again. I feel that it gives me an immense advantage over my peers, has increased my vocabulary dramatically, and certainly helps with reading comprehension. I can't recommend reading enough. It truly gives you an advantage in real life. Great video! I agree on the exercise bit as well.

Fantastic video, I agree with every point! We appreciate the effort you put into all of these videos. Another point I would add is to do your best to be out of the house as much as possible, whether it be to go for a walk or just mooch around. I find i'm much happier when i've gone to meet friends on my days off instead of lounge around at home.

I'm really impressed with this episode, this is your best episode ever. It has really inspired me to change my lifestyle. You are absolutely right about the positive thinking, there are people in this world that have nothing, but they still look on the bright side of life. I used to be negative on the things I didn't have, but I forgot to focus on the things that l did have. People have to appreciate the things that are positive in life to avoid the most dangerous disease to the mind and body, which is depression. Thank you for reminding me of this TGV!

TGV - great video. Made me think. I try to do things that cause the raising of hair on the back of my neck. A few examples: loud music which helps your mind tunnel for positive memories, cooking special meals for family and friends, random chivalrous "nothings" for strangers and attempting to pass along life lessons to my kids without sounding like a 'Dad'.
Great video TGV, all important points. Over the past couple years I have found great pleasure in exercising and keeping healthy (never would have thought it to be possible). I was also lucky enough to be brought up by strange "gyspy" parents that travelled a lot, so I was exposed to many cultures from a young age, I'll always be grateful for that.
Keep up with the amazing content, the concept for this channel is impressive and you could take it so much higher still!

Very enjoyable philosophy. I would also call it a discipline; one of self management. I like the idea of the selfless acts, but then again doing for others is usually built into people's nature. These attitudes, of which you speak, these are what we should truly call being cultured! Thanks TGV.
Your last point of selfless acts made me realise I've started doing these naturally over the past few years, I play guitar for my old school every year for a week, to open their eyes to proper music (Queen) and that hard work pays off learning an instrument. I'm also studying Economics at university and nothing is more satisfying than helping colleagues with their work or knowing a point that they didn't, because they learn new things. One of my housemates is dyslexic so when she does her coursework essays I'll always read over them before she submits them to make sure there are no mistakes and adjust them if necessary, thus helping her get better marks.
Sorry for the little essay I've written, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the videos :)

Thank you for this video. I don't know if this will help me but I do know that what you've said will stick with me for a while. I'm trying to improve my life and future but it's not easy when you don't know what you want to do than just be happy. So thank you very much. Your insight in culture and watches are at the very least interesting and for me very thought provoking. Not just in the way you look at a certain watch but more so at how you look at something that other people have made. The best thing about your videos is that you are positive so keep that up!
