Yes, they need a Hardtail Strat in every series from Squier all the way through American Ultra and they all need to be offered with the choice of a maple fretboard or rosewood/ebony.
Heheh, just thought of smth Antigua finish (A)nti(gu)a (fi)ni(sh) Agufish Hunter's favorite finish is the Antigua finish confirmed ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
I currently live 28 miles from Sweetwater and in rural America that means it’s one of my local shops. I have watched it grow into what it is today since I bought a guitar strap and strings from them in ‘96 when was a brick tender working on the front of their new(back then) showroom/warehouse building on Bass rd. Kinda cool to see it all over the place, still promoting music culture all these years later. 🤘🏼🍻
It might be my Strat biase speaking, but this is legit one the the best demos you made recently! The blues/rock vibes along with the chugs and the harmonics works together super well.
From what I recall Rabea Massad spec'd out his own set of s-type pick-ups that were chug friendly,... along with backing the bridge off with a tone knob of course. Covid era experimentation, but I definitely get what he was searching for.
It’s nice that they listened to the players and added bridge pickup tone control, I have 3 MIM strats all with a control on bridge pick up, 96 Jimmy Vaughn , a 2000s deluxe players series , and a 2021 players series
I checked one of these out and was really surprised how close they made it to the Strats of that era. In the past, I've noticed that Fender didn't do the 70s era saddles or body contours with 70s reissues. The one I played actually had shallower body carves and the 70s era saddles (at least in appearance).
I bought one of these when they were first released, always wanted an Antigua. It did not disappoint. It really is a well-built, great sounding guitar. I would love to get a matching tele from the mod shop next. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a matching pickguard to make the twin combo.
As someone who started playing guitar in the 1970s, the mere mention of a 3bolt neck brings out a nervous sweat in me and PTSD like symptoms. At age 16 I could bend a neck on a 3bolt instead of string bending. It didn't sound pretty but boy did the sales staff get pissed.
This is definitely one of those guitars that you love or hate… I find myself really loving ❤it a lot because it’s just so different looks wise if it had a bridge humbucker it would be the perfect Strat for me. I’ve always loved how comfortable they are to play sitting down ( forearm and rib cut ) when your just relaxing or spending lots of time trying to figure something out but want to do it kicking back on the couch ! 😄 I own 14 various guitars of all brands and shapes. As much as I love V’s , ML’s, Explorer etc and other crazy more pointy style metal shape guitars they absolutely blow for doing that ! I always try to convince new players to just get a Fender Squire Strat for that exact reason, the Stratocaster body style is shaped that way for a reason… if it’s a good price, good quality, sounds and plays really well and is also super comfortable you will play it waaay more!
Surprised that I'm kinda interested in it! Loved that little bit of the Trooper haha. The antigua with black pickups catches my eye, something I don't find with many strats (not sure it's my thing though, but it is appealing)
Hunter, if nothing else, I thank you for dissing Fender's original truss rod access disaster. I categorically REFUSE to buy any guitar with that arrangement!‼️
I have an old fender Stratocaster case with the same logo, I bought it used in the late 70’s. I had a chance to buy an original Coronado with that finish and it was way different than what you have
I am not a strat fan, but I have to admit, this pig-ugly colour and 70’s styling really spoke to me when I was launched. Waiting to pick one up in a sale somewhere.
I think I read somewhere fender couldn't master the binding methods used by fellow guitar manufacturers, apparently the binding just kept coming off so they seeked Martin's advice going forward
Hunter, Long time sub of your channel, I like your content and you have some killer riffs too. I’m a metal player mostly but I like rock and other genres as well. With different influences come different types of guitars, the tele and strat are widely known for dad rock but I think since Jim Root and a couple of other metal players are showing that Fenders can chug too if you you want them to. That’s strat sounds incredible, the tone you got was fat and had beautiful midrange too, good job brother! That you for making cool content. 🙏
My early 90s MIJ Antigua is awesome, and with the lighter colored fretboard, it just complements the squash colors, and the Antigua effect is luxurious..... my favorite guitar ❤
Fender Vintera is the best "attainable" line. Every Vintera model I've played has been on par with Fender USA lines. I have several. I love this strat but I don't know how I feel about that finish. Honestly my 50s Vintera stratocaster is "My Strat, I love teles, I was not remotely interested til I had that soft V neck in my hands. VINTERA never let's you down.
I've had this exact guitar for about 6 months now. I can't put it down. The color is so ugly/beautiful I love it! I've never liked the wiggle stick on strats so the hardtail is ideal for me. The pickups are what I want to hear when I think strat. Great guitar. I think Fender hit a home run with this one.
They should have offered more colors. At least black and aged olympic white. They also need to stop using vintage size frets…no pro uses tiny frets. There’s a reason people put big frets on vintage and custom shop guitars…
A guitar collector I follow on Instagram loves the Antigua finish. He has the Strat and a Tele. He says it's an "acquired taste". Like Cilantro... You either like it, or you don't.
I've got both the 70th Anniversary Player in the funky Nebula Noir color and the 70th Anniversary American Proessional II, both are great, but there are a few minor what I call quality of life things about the American Professional that put it ahead of the Player. The Antigua Burst is my least favorite of the 70th Anniversary models, and from a looks standpoint, I like the Ultra the best. When comparing it against the American Professional, the Ultra lost out based on neck shapes at the end of the day. There's just something about a slightly beefier C shaped neck that I prefer over a thinner flatter neck.
Would have bought one the day it dropped, but... hardtail. A defining characteristic of a Stratocaster, to me, is the built-in reverb tank. Instead, I'm going to get the Squier version and an aftermarket neck of choice. And save about $500 in the process.
Not quite sure about that color but then it could be the case (Halloween, hey Jamie Lee Curtis is this ok for the inside walls of your changing room?, oh my god! thank you David Lee Roth) inside color way or maybe simply the lighting. BTW could not stand the first stuff you played but liked the clean sound but interestingly really enjoyed the closing stuff you played. Oh yeah! Thanks for sharing a guitar from one of my favorite decades that celebrated my 70 years on this planet. Cheers. Keep playing.
I don’t think the issue is the finish, it’s the hardware color choice. It would look a lot better with cream-colored pickups and knobs, the black just doesn’t work with it.
my favourite out of the 70s aniversary line up is definatele the sparkly one with the roasted maple neck and modern trem edit: just found out that the finish is called amethyst
Do you mean the bass vi? It's tuned E-E like a guitar but an octave lower. Just picked one up in Antigua and it's awesome 👍 plays incredible at the high end and gives good bass as the bottom.
I just got a Squizzy Bass VI in Antigua. I've never owned a Bass VI, and Classic Vibe is about the level money I'm willing to risk on one, and toasted marshmallow is thee coolest color, I reckon. Its very weird.
Saw the original iteration of the Anniversary Strat for sale at a vintage shop around the corner. Pops wanted to buy it as an investment piece (already made a few bucks off of some Gibson’s). I told him to bail immediately. Zero market for the guitar and its sales history is pretty crappy for something you’d think would be valuable.
I love those guitars! I’m probably in the minority but I really dig the 70’s era guitars. It sounded freaking awesome in going through that Revv!!! Would probably actually hear it in a mix with all the high gain.
Thanks for the review! I picked up the 70s vintera 2 tele deluxe already (you reviewed it a bit ago which I’m thankful for) you think you’d compare this one to the squire classic vibe version?
Hunter, you've always been a good player. But it sounds like you've progressed...as a guitarist I look at it like step levels. Ya know, you practice more more and alot times you'll move up a step or two.🤙 Sounds great brotha!!!
Trust me the three bolt setup on this guitar is as solid as a rock. The three bolt necks bad reputation was the result of poorly routed neck pockets and poor quality control in the 70’s. These days the precision of cnn machines ensures the neck pockets are cut correctly each time. I own three modern Strats with three bolt necks, tuning is not a problem.

Expired milk burst
Curdleburst.
Nes quick burst.
Lmaooooo
🤣🤣👍
Looks good tho
Fender also needs to make more hardtail strats. Am I right?
100%
Yes, they need a Hardtail Strat in every series from Squier all the way through American Ultra and they all need to be offered with the choice of a maple fretboard or rosewood/ebony.
Any Strat can be a hardtail if you have a little time and a screwdriver.
@ I’m so sick of that. No it can’t. Thats called decked, and guess what, its not hardtail
@@southernpanda33 Any piece of wood can be a guitar if you have some time and a screwdriver
I really like the Antigua finish.
Heheh, just thought of smth

Hard tail was not a mistake.
One if the best strats i player looked exactly like this. It was a 79 i think
66 banana bits in 20 minutes? your dog is one happy fella
Pringle's a sweetheart, but she's a girl. Still happy, though, I hope!
Has a hardtail, I approve. Tremolos are not everyone's jam.
Love that you reviewed this! Glad you enjoyed it even though it’s not your style. I think it’s amazing. I am a classic strat guys through and through
I'll never not defend Antigua, it's so unique
Squier makes a version now.
Jim Root has a strat in this finish❤❤❤
I think it looks amazing 🙌
I just went to thomann to maybe order your 28 inch scale signature and it's sold out!!! Good stuff brother!!
I LOVE this finish you guys are crazy it looks great
Hunter great tone on that bridge pickup bro!! Very cutting and proving you can make a traditional Strat sound sick af 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Right on. I'd have to take a shot at replicating the pickguard in a single humbucker version though.
It might be my Strat biase speaking, but this is legit one the the best demos you made recently! The blues/rock vibes along with the chugs and the harmonics works together super well.
To be fair, that colorway looks amazing in person.
From what I recall Rabea Massad spec'd out his own set of s-type pick-ups that were chug friendly,... along with backing the bridge off with a tone knob of course. Covid era experimentation, but I definitely get what he was searching for.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but the tone and that bright orange case would sweeten the deal up, hopefully.
Always enjoy your show, good work Sir!
Antigua is beautiful
MASSIVE?
its still MASSIVE
Yk what else is massive
had me with the title ngl

The one I played actually had shallower body carves and the 70s era saddles (at least in appearance).
In the olden days when we were kids, Chuck Prophet had one of these. Consequently, I still want one, with Flying Tigers jaws on the lower arm.
I bought one of these when they were first released, always wanted an Antigua. It did not disappoint. It really is a well-built, great sounding guitar. I would love to get a matching tele from the mod shop next. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a matching pickguard to make the twin combo.

Looks cool. For American made, vintage reissue, the price is surprisingly reasonable.
Put a black pickguard on it and you´re good!
I think I read somewhere fender couldn't master the binding methods used by fellow guitar manufacturers, apparently the binding just kept coming off so they seeked Martin's advice going forward
Not a fan of binding myself.
Hunter,

Is the logo on the case the one on their amps?
I actually kinda dig the finish! It looks better with the ebony board and fatty headstock, I'd say.
79 hardtails are my favorite strats
My early 90s MIJ Antigua is awesome, and with the lighter colored fretboard, it just complements the squash colors, and the Antigua effect is luxurious..... my favorite guitar ❤
Great demo!
I didn't make this comment! Who the hell has hacked my youtube!!!??
I never like this finish but for some reason I like this one?? Absolutely love the case too!!
Fender Vintera is the best "attainable" line. Every Vintera model I've played has been on par with Fender USA lines. I have several. I love this strat but I don't know how I feel about that finish. That is one of the coolest colors!
Between the burnt marshmallow finish and the bright orange case it looks like the color palette to your average living room in 1976.
Hunter, I have to admit. Really like your playing. Awesome dude!!!
im never totally sure how i feel about the antigua burst but honestly id probably rock that. especially it being a hardtail
Really loved the last jam...very interesting music
I had a made in Japan reissue lived it. Had a rough year and had no money for Christmas so I sold it. Never had sellers remorse more.
They should have offered more colors. At least black and aged olympic white. They also need to stop using vintage size frets…no pro uses tiny frets. There’s a reason people put big frets on vintage and custom shop guitars…
My SQ Japanese squier is a work of art , it’s similar to the specs on this and 70s
I too am a fan of larger Fender headstock... You can thank Tom DeLonge.
15.02 can it be that there is a dent in the wood on the edge between first and second fret also 2nd and 3rd is a scatch or whatever...?🤔
Love the antigua burst lol. Tried getting the jazzmaster squire a few years ago.
A guitar collector I follow on Instagram loves the Antigua finish. He has the Strat and a Tele. He says it's an "acquired taste". Like Cilantro... You either like it, or you don't.
This wasn't the first time they added binding to a guitar. Are we forgetting the Custom Telecaster from '59-72?
Malmsteen knew single coils could be heavy. So did Iommi with P90s in his first SG. Cut through the mud.
More like "liver mortis burst" LOLOLO I like it.
vintera finish black pickguard would go hard tho…
Can your dog Pringle eat almost 900 banana slices in less than 24 hours? 😂
I have one. Very cool guitar. QC issue: hums because there’s a grounding issue. Haven’t opened it to fix yet.
Wish they had put a wiggle stick on it
Same!🎸👍

Enjoy your banana slice Pringle!
I like the more greenish/ yellowish hue some of these mellow into .. Singlecoils though...not a Singlecoil bridge fan
Love it except for the hard tail part. 🎸👍

Instead, I'm going to get the Squier version and an aftermarket neck of choice. And save about $500 in the process.
Are you sure feeding your dog 18kg of bananas is healthy?
The guitar plays beautifully which is most important.
Pretty cool guitar. I don't know why i keep overlooking hardtail strats
It’s beautiful 💜
You know what else is massive?
That was 45 years ago. That 12.5% matters.
The real mistake is still having the hello kitty guitar sold out 😭😭
Not quite sure about that color but then it could be the case (Halloween, hey Jamie Lee Curtis is this ok for the inside walls of your changing room?, oh my god! thank you David Lee Roth) inside color way or maybe simply the lighting.

Nice, but this video comes out on the same day I see the 30" baritone Squire Jazzmaster in Antigua burst.
That one is a bit more interesting to me.
Do you mean the bass vi? It's tuned E-E like a guitar but an octave lower. Just picked one up in Antigua and it's awesome 👍 plays incredible at the high end and gives good bass as the bottom.
I want to meet Pringle in real life! ❤
I just got a Squizzy Bass VI in Antigua. I've never owned a Bass VI, and Classic Vibe is about the level money I'm willing to risk on one, and toasted marshmallow is thee coolest color, I reckon. Its very weird.
The only thing I don't like about Antigua finish is 99% of everyone mispronouncing it.
Points for Rock N’ Roll Train🤘🏼

Idk I have the exact same guitar and I love it man
It looks badass. It's different.
14:16 We love Koshi the. Kitty Kat!😻
I am pretty sure that you cannot get worse colors. Is this the "last girl at the bar at 2:00AM" guitar?
You are a great composer of music btw.😊
Thanks for the review! I picked up the 70s vintera 2 tele deluxe already (you reviewed it a bit ago which I’m thankful for) you think you’d compare this one to the squire classic vibe version?
Why did they not do the 70th anny case on these I wonder??
Another banana slice coming your way, Pringle!
I can't tell you I don't like it, because I really do. It's exotic but I find it charming
Great video. Subscribed.
Amen brother!!!!!!
