    Shoutout to Mike for killing the edit on this one! Been Schecter-pilled recently NGL. Crazy they're such a massive guitar brand, and yet from the 006 to Schecter Japan, there are so many overlooked aspects of Schecter..

    Yo, I’m actually really glad you’re mentioning this. I saw Baena post a crazy multiscale version of the shape recently from a factory tour he just did and it totally reawakened some old early guitar-browsing memories from the early 10’s. 🥹 different era back then. We have it so much better now LOL.

    I was actually looking for a used Stargazer on reverb over the summer, so I'm super glad these came out. That white one with the ebony board is nice.

      I was unable to find used Stargazer basses…..an older bolty version was the ONLY one I could find anywhere!
      I mean, I’ve heard them played but don’t live somewhere i could expect to lay hands on one and play it myself.
      They look cool AF and coupled with their lack of representation in the used bass market….I bought one mail order. I am impressed. I now have 3 Schecters and could sell all the rest of my basses and die happy.

    The bass got them in trouble with Rickenbacker. If you look at the shape now, they altered the cutaways.

    • @gabeagoado7412
      @gabeagoado7412 4 дні тому

      No it didn't. It had different pickups, different bridge, different neck, different tuners, and vastly different sound. The original didn't sell because it didn't remotely scratch the Rick itch. and if you look at the new version it's more Rickenbacker style than ever.

    The first guitar I ever spent my own money on was a 006 deluxe in satin black. That was 2005, and I still have it. It's got hipshot tuners and EMGs now, and I still play it often. Edit, I also had the s-1 with pink flames, but I sold that one years ago.

    A red Stargazer bass was the first 'real' (more than a couple hundred dollars) bass I ever bought, around the time they were discontinued. It has been very heavily modified, but I still have it, and will never sell it.

    Schecter not making an 8 string bass Stargazer but making a 12 string bass really annoys me, I love 8 string basses
    That said, the white 6 string guitar is so cool!

    • @brians1793
      @brians1793 8 днів тому

      I mean, couldn't you just leave the highest strings missing and it's basically an 8 string? I was thinking it'd be like a 6 string bass with a higher string instead of like a 4 string with 2 higher strings. But I realize the distance between each pair of strings would probably be a bit wider than if it were designed to be an 8 string.

    • @Captain_Yata
      @Captain_Yata 8 днів тому +2

      @brians1793 Yeah, it's mainly just the neck width problem. You COULD just do that, but then the string spacing would be all weird :P

    • @gabeagoado7412
      @gabeagoado7412 4 дні тому

      There are so many options out there for an 8 string bass in that price range if you want one. Comparitively, there are very few 12 strings you can get for around $1000 or less because it's a niche instrument. Now they more or less have a monopoly on that niche as opposed to having to compete if they made it an 8 string.

  • @frankiechan9651

    I really like the shape of the 00/ Stargazers - and the 12-string is very, very nice.
    The Stargazer is a refreshing shape that is different to the usual takes on S, T, LP's.
    I kind of want a Schecter-looking Schecter though - the old Stargazer with the abalone binding/ purfling and cross inlays.

    I remember the original Stargazer launch, the basses in particular were pretty sought after. The 006 and 007 were killer as well. Schecter has and always will be one of my favorite brands. They’ve made a ton of non metal looking shapes and aesthetics and there’s some sigs that I’d love to have 🎉

  • @robsantorobass

    Schecter is such a great company. I’ve been playing their basses almost as long as I’ve been playing bass.
    The Studio series basses are my go to. Great tonal variety, reliable, great quality, and they just look fantastic. Either be in a metal setting all the way to a funk setting, they will get the job done.

    I was definitely someone who thought of Schecter as the brand that only made edgy metalcore guitars, until around a year ago when I started seeing more models like the hollowbody guitars, singlecuts, and more traditional strats, etc. Now I think they're just an awesome brand that has a little something for everybody

    I’ve always kept Schecter in my searches but owning one has eluded me. PT always tempting. But I just picked up the white Stargazer 12 string a few weeks ago. It’s quite the guitar. I did order it “b stock” and the only issue is the tone pot needs to get rewired, but the fit and finish are almost perfect. Bridge pup is definitely a bit bright and honky for me, has its place, but the neck pup is great. Was curious about the neck feel, but it’s super comfortable and easy to play with the added strings. The bridge is clever, 6 strings through body 6 strings top mounted so it’s very adjustable. Idk the guitar just looks great and plays great.
    If they marketed it more I feel like we’d see them in the wild. I wanted an electric 12 string, assumed it would be a semi hollow (reverend probably) but really liked this aesthetic and needed to check off Schecter on my list.

    I think it was Melechesh who use a 12 string for metal but don't have thinner octave tuned second strings. But rather tuned in unison for a thicker double tracked sound.

    Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam played a 12-string bass on Jeremy. I play bass and I am not a fan of the Rickenbacker, however, Lemmy's carved 4001 is awesome and I like it. As for the switches I think one is to switch the humbucker from series to parallel and to split it. I think the other switch is to tap the neck pickup. I would like to try one out, but I would prefer the SLS evil twin if I was to get a Schecter.

    Strawberry sunburst Stargazer bass was the first higher end bass I bought (the one pictured in the video at 3:27). I had an early 70s Epiphone Newport bass and an SX P bass copy. I had high expectations, but as beautiful as the bass looked, it did not resonate at all - if I played either of my other basses not plugged in, you could hear them acoustically ring out clear and rich, but if you tried that with the Schecter, even in a perfectly silent room, you couldn’t even hear it. Totally dead. And then when you plugged it in, you had to turn the active bass EQ ALL the way up and it still didn’t have as much bottom end as either of the other basses. It was a real learning experience to buy with my ears rather than my eyes.

    Something about Rickenbacker is that the FEEL of the instruments are VERY different. So while I like the look of them (mainly the 330) the feel is too off. The basses are alright but I am used to my Precisions and Jazz basses that I have played.
    The looks of Rickenbacker goes back to the 1950s and European aesthetics, especial with those German carves in them. To me they look cool on other players.
    It's also worth mentioning that Lemmy highly modified his Rickenbacker basses with Gibson Thunderbird pickups. So it's a different beast than a standard 4001 production bass.

    The scale length is pretty negligible. What I'm looking is pickup location. I like that schecter put it closer to the bridge. That will really benefit the clarity of a 12 string bass. This thing looks awesome, not a lot of options for 12 bass.
    The site says the knobs are V/B/T front toggle taps the neck pickup and the rear toggle is a 3 way to put the bridge hum in series, split, or parallel. Tons of tonal variety
