    For those who don't have the hot knife and are using scissors: ATFER you have mounted all you're stamps on the cling, take siran wrap and cover the stamps, pushing the siran down to the mount, then your scissors will not get glue on them. Peel off the siran from the stamps after you've cut them out. And again, as Amy stated, make sure to keep your scissors straight up and down to avoid undercutting them. For storing them, the original thicker CD cases work fabulously.

    Thanks for doing this video Amy, after watching it I got myself a hot knife, one tip I would like to share is ...have a magnetic pick-up tool close to hand just in case the hot blade falls out of the holder makes it easier and safer to pick up hence no burnt fingers.

    I cannot image doing this method today.🥲 Stamping has going from this video’s dated cutting edge content to what it is today. It makes the me think what will the next 15 years hold?
    You’re like the Stamping Matriarch!

    Thanks so much for this tutorial! I have done the "cut with Tim Holtz scissors" routine, and even with using baby powder & the scissors' non-stick coating, it is a LOT of effort! Since I do have a hot knife, I'll have to give this a go the next time I have stamps to mount/cut out.

    I know this is an old video, but I am a new subscriber to your channel this year, so I am just watching it for the first time. I have to say thank you for this advice, & also let you know that I wish someone had told me about this years ago! I have been attending the Heirloom Rubber Stamping & Scrapbooking Show annually for about a decade, & I have purchased many UM rubber stamps like this from vendors there, & of course, online (I donto understand why they didnt fI'll me in on this ltitle secret, LOL!). I usually end up just hoarding them until I have a good amount, before sitting down for the torture of cutting them out with my Tim Holtz scissors (I was also foolishly mounting the stamps first, & then cutting through both layers of rubber & cling)! My aching fingers really appreciate this gem of a tip! 😁

    I am not a very good stamper and have loads of stamps bought in bundles etc over the years, so now all I need to do is get the EZMount and get cracking on trimming them, that is part I have been putting off for years. Thanks for sharing such a great video.

    Hi there !! I know this is an old video, but I am getting ready to put some stamps on E Z Mount and so I watched your video. I was so glad I found your video as it was very helpful. I will now try to get a hot knife myself as I could see how helpful it was from your video. I watch your videos all the time and I want to thank you for all you do. 😀

    Thank you for an awesome video! I wish I'd known this before I dealt with a huge number of stamps which I unmounted from wood blocks and put on EZMount. I did it with regular scissors which was quite horrendous, then got my Tim Holtz scissors just as I was finishing! Never thought of using my hot knife like this. Everyone should see this video!!!

    I read somewhere a few years ago that spraying the whole thing (stamps & ez mount) with water temporarily deactivates the adhesive. This works especially well on the keeping the adhesive from gumming up the scissors and your fingers. I do like the knife--it is faster. Thanks for sharing. Gail

    Great tut! I use the exact same set up. So funny because I mounted a bunch of stamps today. I sooo hate the sticky fingers. One thing you may want to get is a wire brush to clean the blade as you work. It gets rid of that smell. The one's I use are from a hardware store. They look like a bigger toothbrush. They come three to a pack with black, gold & silver wire brush. They are like a dollar here. I just clean as I go & no more nasty burning bits on my knife. JIL

    This was so super helpful. Thanx. I have a question about a different topic. How do you control static when you are putting sequins into the little plastic boxes? My sequins were literally jumping out of the boxes almost like they didn't want to go in there. Ha Ha. I gave up temporarily until I can get an answer. I've seen people use the antistatic pouches on acetate for shaker cards but doesn't it leave an unattractive film? What are those pouches filled with anyway?

    I have just started storing my cling stamps on laminated sheets of copy paper, which I then punch holes on the edge to store in file folders. I will be in future stamping the image on the front with stazon and placing same image on the back, I will also be sticking tabs on the egdes for easy reference. I have just come across (here in Australia) files with a zippered edge, so if any clings decide to fall off they will be contained in the file. Hope that helps and makes some sence ;)

  • @KathleenMc73

    Well, I finally got my hot knife (£11) and it works a treat. Takes a bit of getting used to....found it most difficult with the small narrow stamps. Might have to remount a couple.My question relates to the black mount that cc designs uses. I have a few.stamps by them and I have noticed that the cling doesn't want to cling. Have you found this? Trying to decide if I should just remove it and remount with the grey ezmount.Kathleen Mc x

    • @PrairiePaperandInk
      @PrairiePaperandInk  8 років тому +1

      the black has a different backing than the grey - the grey seems to stay clingy more than the black. Any time I had an issues I'd wipe the cling with a baby wipe and it was fine. It's been years since I filmed this video and I use almost all clear stamps now so I can't say if there's any real difference or not.

    • @KathleenMc73
      @KathleenMc73 8 років тому

  • @PrairiePaperandInk

    no - it takes even more heat than a hot knife to get through rubber - it can be done but it takes a lot of pressure and isn't worth the time and effort.

  • @PrairiePaperandInk
    @PrairiePaperandInk  12 років тому

    you can but I prefer to hold them as it's faster - but yeah if you're not up for it leave them on the mat LOL! It's safer that way ;)

    cheers xx

    • @PrairiePaperandInk
      @PrairiePaperandInk  9 років тому

      KathleenMc73 this was specifically called a hot knife but yes that's basically what it is - a soldering iron with a craft knife tip that screws on.

    • @KathleenMc73
      @KathleenMc73 9 років тому

      Prairie Paper & Ink (AmyR) thanks. I've found a pyrography set that has a knife attachment. about £20 I think.
      does it cut through the rubber and the ez-mount? a lot of mine are untrimmed already on the ezmount as it's easier to cut thru the rubber to stop getting sticky scissors.

    • @PrairiePaperandInk
      @PrairiePaperandInk  9 років тому +1

      I don't use it to cut through the rubber - it doesn't get hot enough (and for something to be hot enough to cut rubber easily I would assume it would cut through everything else, plus there'd prolly be fumes) and it's too tough and time consuming. I trim the rubber 1st if needed then use the hot knife to trim the EZ mount around the trimmed rubber.

    • @KathleenMc73
      @KathleenMc73 9 років тому

      Prairie Paper & Ink (AmyR) looks like i'll have to take them off the ezmount and trim and hope the sticky is still there should be - it's super sticky!!!

    • @PrairiePaperandInk
      @PrairiePaperandInk  9 років тому +1

      if they're already on EZmount there's no need to use a hot knife at all - I just trim out stamps that are already mounted with my Tim Holtz tonic scissors as they cut through like butter. It's when I have to mount bare rubber stamps to EZmount that I use the hot knife to trim off the excess EZmount.

      Do you have to use glass underneath your stamps when you use a hot knife? Thank you

    • @karenmenard5633
      @karenmenard5633 8 років тому

      Well, glass is unaffected by using the hot knife. You can't use a self-healing mat because the heat of the knife will penetrate it... You could use a metal surface. You want something hard which is why, say, a thin silicone mat wouldn't work. Perhaps a silicone cutting board? Me, personally, I subscribe to the idea of trying to find something I already have first before buying a 1-purpose tool and you can use a Teflon pan/cookie sheet. There has been a big broo-haha about older Teflon pans putting some sort of chemical into foods and they told everyone to get rid of your old Teflon and trade up. Well, I did change out my fave frying pan for stainless awhile ago but kept my small cookie sheet. That works much better as a glass mat than it does a cookie sheet!

    The gray foam is better. The black shinny foam mount is useless after 3-5 years. It looses its sticky and you are left with like a plastic sheet in the back . What a waste of money since these sheets aren't to cheap.

    It’s gotten so the sticky bits give me the heebie-jeebies. one word of caution…. don’t attempt to clean the sticky off of your knife blade. just get a new blade. believe me please just get a new blade. And dispose of the old one carefully wrapped so garbage workers won’t get injured.
