  • My routine (daily) as a caregiver to a stroke survivor. I wanted to share my DITL as a full time stay at home family caregiver to my mother, who suffered a massive stroke in 2014. I demonstrate my morning, afternoon, evening, and night time routine that surrounds my responsibilities as a caregiver to my Mom in our home. I also share our journey of stroke recovery and life as a caregiver in my weekly blogs ("VarietDEE Vlogs", because there's so much variety in each vlog). It's another way you can take a peek into our daily life as a family caregiver creating balance and happiness. I hope this gives you encouragement, faith, and HOPE in your situation. Please check out my caregiver series and vlogs for more of a glimpse into a caregiver's life. If you are a caregiver and this helps in some sort of way, please like, subscribe, and SHARE with others who may benefit from watching. As long as I can help others who can relate to this journey of ours, I will continue to add to my caregiving series: Caregiving to a Stroke Survivor. #caregiving #caregiverlife #deelovelylife

    It's really good to see people care for their loved ones in this way. I'm only 17 and around February my mother lost most of her strength in her left arm and leg so I had to start taking care of her. My brothers and dad have a job and my dad helps a lot with bathing her so I don't have to but my brothers don't do much except go fetch things for her from the store when she asks them to. Whenever she asks them to do a lot of things they mostly tell her to ask me which really makes me feel like someone's maid instead of a caregiver. Some days I let my mental issues get the best of me and I complain about the littlest things like the dishes piling up so fast or constantly having to take out the trash and do everyone's laundry. I barely have energy for anything else and I feel so guilty for sometimes wishing that I was elsewhere. I don't get along well with my mother anyway as she's always been demanding and controlling even before she had this injury. So I'm feeling trapped I guess. It's just a really unbearable feeling sometimes when she constantly plays the victim. It's very tough and my patience is running out. Any tips for how to stay motivated?

      I completely understand every statement you shared. I believe all caregivers can truly relate. Try to find a support group somewhere. There are plenty of them on Facebook, private groups just for caregivers. You could receive a lot of support from others on there, and a great resource for help as well. I used to roll my eyes when people to told me to take care of myself first, but as time went by they're absolutely right!! I found something for myself every single day to escape if it's only 5 minutes, to an hour. Sleep when they sleep. You should watch my video about tips for caregivers. I go over that. I hope you stay well, and find some me time for yourself. What you are doing is a gift, and very appreciated (even if you don't see that right now.). Take care!

    You are such a good daughter! God will bless you for the way you honor your mother. I am a family caregiver to my mom and dad, mainly IADLs, but with my dad I give him physical therapy, and now respiratory therapy. My mom helps me as well with sharing duties. I sometimes need to take a break myself so I walk, pray, and meditate, and do scrapbooking when I get a chance. My mom and I play Scrabble every night. My parents are in their 80s and I am 49. I live with them. Please make more caregiving videos like these. I enjoy them!

    Ooooooooomg, this is so my routine EVERY single day! My dad suffered a major stroke on the left side of his brain on Sept 11, 2018 during Hurricane Irma. I am his full time caregiver, but I don’t get paid for it. I have vlogged our journey from day one being discrete at first, but slowly showing more and more of dad’s progress.
    I was in the process of uploading a vlog today and choosing a title via analytics data....when I came across your video. I AM sitting here with my mouth open because our routines mirror each other to a T. I agave joined your channel and look forward to growing with you, I also laughed when you stated that you have to persuade your mom to watch your TV playlist. I go through the same with dad. 🤣😂😊

    Thank u for sharing your experience. I also am a caregiver for my Mother who also suffered a massive stroke in 2014. I understand the overwhelming challenges u are confronted with on a daily basis. The only difference is I am caregiving by myself which makes it even more challenging, however, I find a way to do it by myself one way or another. I just wanted to tell u that your video was very inspiring because I really don't have anyone to share my experiences with. Just like u, I too would act silly for my Mom just to make her smile everyday and so it was nice to see someone else do that too. We are a lot alike and it's just a good feeling to see someone doing the same thing as me and loving their Mom as much as I do. Thank u! God bless u! Sincerely, Michele

      Hi Michele! We do seem like we're both in similar situations. I get the whole by yourself. For many years, I took on this role pretty much by myself since my husband worked midnights, slept during the day. I didn't get a relief caregiver until a few years back. But now that Covid is here, I'm back to myself with some help now from my husband. We do what we can. That's all we can do. I also do vlogs about the caregiver life and how I am with my mom if that is something you'd be interested in seeing. Like you, I wanted to see how others care for their stroke survivors. Take care!

      @@bosespeaks111 this made my Day! Thanks for recommending! Girl most days I'm on wing & a prayer. I had to bathe moms for first time by myself today (she has no range of motion to even assist in anything 😢). I was able to do it but it was scary. Most days I do the routine stuff and try adding 1 fun thing like having Dad help me prep food, he loves feeling needed so I fake the struggle and have him "help me out", we go on walks I push mom and he races us on his mobility scooter. But same...running out of ideas. I guess just keep adding something different every day to make it seem different. 😊

    I don’t know how you do it. When I was my husbands primary caregiver in hospice I had to give him pain meds every 2 hours day & night. The nights were just awful, I was definitely losing it due to lack of sleep. I hope you are able to sleep a solid 7-8 hours sometime.

      I can't remember the last time I got a solid 7-8 hours of sleep. Usually on the weekend I can get a full 6 hour, because my husband can fill in to relieve me during the night. I treasure those nights!!

    Hi Dee, I have been watching your channel for awhile and have been meaning to make a comment but just never seemed to do it. I too take care of my mother as a stroke survivor. In her case she has had 3 strokes now over the past year and unfortunately cannot do as much as your Mom can. It has been wonderful to watch your Mom improve in your videos - so inspiring. Also, you are very inspiring in your care of your Mom. Thank You for taking the time to make them, I know how tiring just One day-in-the-life a caregiver has, and we have many. I have noticed that you use a Daily meds & Vitamins Pill Sorter that you do each day, and I used one similar but I found one is for 7 days that beats it hands down (at Walmart) for under 5 BUCKS. Yay, because $$$ is always a factor. I will send you a email with the link so you can check it out. Saves some time and we know how important that is! God Bless and have a wonderful holiday season.:)

    • @DeeLovelyLife
      @DeeLovelyLife  6 років тому

      I have a 7 day one too. I just haven't really used it since I'm training 2 new people caring for my mom part time. Since the doctor has changed her blood pressure pill, it depends on which meds she can take for that particular day. So each morning or night, we have to adjust accordingly. I hope you and your mom are doing well. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I totally appreciate it :0)

    I cannot turn or roll my husband as he has a subluxation of the shoulder partially dislocated but obey him up every day i don't keep him in bed . It's bad for them . margaret sofocleous I agree. We don't have my mom in bed all the time either. You need to keep them active as much as possible! Don't you give his shoulder some kind of support? We use a shoulder sling, and place a pillow under her arm.

    hey love. is being a caregiver the same as a provider ? if so my mom gets provided services and she's moving in with us soon. i'm trying to see how i can go about being her caregiver .. do you get paid for taking care of your parents as well ? just wondering

    • @DeeLovelyLife
      @DeeLovelyLife  4 роки тому +1

      I believe a caregiver is a bit different than a provider. Usually a provider is someone who is responsible for assets, finances, and decision making. I do not get paid for being her caregiver. However, some states you can apply and qualify for being paid a limit amount. I wish you luck and care!

    Is a home health aid and caregiver different or the same thing

    • @DeeLovelyLife
      @DeeLovelyLife  4 роки тому +2

      Different. A home health aid is someone who comes in every now and then based on a program of some sort with insurance approval for a very short time, with limited visits upon approval. Caregiver is someone who is consistent in the care of those in need of care.
