- Could the Air Zoom Maxfly Athletics Sprinting Spikes go the same way as the Nike Viper Flys and be banned?
Today, Ryan looks at the sprint spike from Nike and reviews the best bits, and the not so good bits about this Olympic winning spike.
Also, he’ll take you through what it’s like to wear them on the track and what you can expect from putting on a pair of these for your next race.
He’s also going to answer the question everyone is asking - “Will they make you run faster?”

Nike describes these spike as…
“The finish is only a quick sprint away. Let the lightweight feel of the Nike Air Zoom Maxfly take you there. Bounce at every step gives you the responsiveness to match your speed as you race to shatter personal goals. We added plenty of traction to give you extra grip for races from 100 to 400 metres with hurdles.”
Air Zoom Maxfly Athletics Sprint Spike Specification from Nike’s site:
Product Details:
Weight: 162g (approx.) (men's size 7.5)
World Athletics approved
Colour Shown: White/Black/Black/Black
Style: DJ5261-100
Stable Bounce
A Zoom Air unit at the forefoot gives you a light, responsive bounce when your foot connects to the track.2 cushioned chambers within the air unit add even more stability and spring. It is combined with a full-length carbon plate for a propulsive and stable feel as your foot takes off. The carbon is tuned in the midfoot and heel for a stiff feel where needed, for better transition from heel to toe.
Secure Steps, Light Touch
A woven and synthetic upper gives you secure, lightweight containment. Notched laces means less chance of them untying mid-run.
Grip the Road
7 removable spikes at the forefoot help give you the traction needed to go your fastest. A shockwave pattern on the outsole, designed from athlete data, adds extra traction along the foot where you need it most.
More Benefits
Lightweight foam in the heel helps cushion your foot without adding weight.

What are your thoughts on the Nike Air Zoom Max Fly's, are you considering buying them... or have you already bought them? Let us know in the comments below!
Highly disappointed in this sprint spike.....
@@sportstrainingsystems4575 How come you were so disappointed in them?
@@BeUnstoppabl Mainly because of the heel slippage.
Are the spikes durable enough over a span of a season
@@kfam-gaming8894 its our first season of wearing them and all good so far. Used them in 9 races and during some training sessions in the run up to competition. Don't forget Nike have a 2 year warranty on their footwear. So if you do have any problems you can get a replacement. Hope that helps.
Bought the spikes a couple weeks ago and they are a game changer. Comfort and performance is unreal!
Couldn't agree more!
Daughter runs 400 and 800. Can you use these for the 800-meter?
@@sgiza30 ideally not
@@sgiza30 400m definitely - we've both competed today in them and over 400m nothing touches them. For 800m NIKE AIR ZOOM VICTORY RUNNING SPIKES tidd.ly/3In3Iy3 are a good bet.
They will save your joints, so good idea for training at least sometimes.
Great review and really helpful. Will definitely consider these as my next purchase for my track work!
Thanks Jack. Let us know how your first session goes if you decide to get a pair.
Really good review and loved the editing. Looking fast too!
Thanks Jay!
Great video! Can you use the nike dragonfly for 100 m sprint too? Thanks for your help!
I would get these, yet every single bloody store has them out of stock
Hold fire!!
Nike has the brand new pair in stock right now I got mine orders today !!!!
@@khadaffiii yeah nice, I got mine at the running company not to long ago
@@radarhits316 amazing ! Have a great day :)
Finding the same with the dragonfly mid distance spike, no a shoe available anywhere.
Have you made a review on the Nike air zoom superfly elite 2?
Not yet, a couple of people up at the track have them and seem to get on with them OK but not tried them ourselves.
Well I am competing in the 4 x 100 meter relay at my schools sports day, and I usually use marathon type shoes to run, but I am wondering if these will enhance my performance and give me the edge on the rest
I would say these take a bit of getting used to running on the bend. Depends on how much time you have to train in them beforehand.
Great review. I recently bought the air zoom victory cause the maxfly weren’t available at all, i mainly do short distance. Are the maxflys actually (way) better than the victory or not?
Hey Leon. One of the guys up at the track has some Victorys. He forgot them one session and borrowed my max flys. Next week he turned up with a pair of maxflys... Said he was getting a lot more return off them from the plate. Only one opinion but hope that helps.
@@BeUnstoppabl sounds great, ill try to buy them aswell. Only problem is that they‘re out of stock all the time
it’s not that the maxfly is better, it’s just that the victory is a 800-1600m shoe. the maxfly is a sprint spike and the victory is not.
@@tyebassham4810 i tried the victories twice now, kinda hated it, unless i can get maxflys and they feel better ill just get adizero prime tokyo instead
Do you know anywhere else I could get them in size 9usa I can’t find them anywhere or if you have any other shoes do you think will also do well in the 100 m to 400 m please tell me.
If Sportsshoes haven't got them then I'd try nike.com. There's a new green colourway out too! 👍
Hello i'm looking to buy thease spikes. My current spikes are nike zoom rival s 9. I've been using those spikes for more than 2 years now and they become very soft.😢 my size in centimetets is (in s9 ones) 24.5. Do you recoment going size up or down? Thank you
I had a pair of S9s size 10uk and opted to go up half a size up in the MaxFlys. I have got pretty wide feet though. The 10.5s fit really well.
I am mainly worried about the air zoom unit bursting. Should I take the risk?
Nike has a 2 year warranty on their spikes. If you encounter a problem they will replace or give you a refund. Personally, we have had 3 air zoom units burst on us - normally on the bend. The deflation isn't catastrophic but noticable. We're debating what to wear at the world champs next year as we don't want a blow out on a crucial race.
@@BeUnstoppabl So if I am just running a straight line, am I safe from the burst? I don't want to ruin my race if the burst is a major issue on these spikes. I will rather spend that amount of money on something more reliable. What do you say?
@@shinsouhitoshi9811 No you're not safe from the burst. Nike has a 2 year warranty, so if this does happen you can return them, get a new pair, or a full refund.
I would try adizero 2
Can i use my maxflys for longjump? Btw my event is 100 and longjump
Long Jump and Triple Jump spikes have more structure and cushioning in the heel and foot plate for take off. Maxflys are designed more for forefoot only and don't have much support in the heel.
You may find they push your foot forward which can put more force through the shins and with repeated use could lead to tight shin muscles and potentially shin splints.
Nice video. If i wear 45 in Superfly Elite do i go 45 also in Maxfly?
Maxfly’s run a little large
Where could I find a pair?

Hi Luca, click on the link in the description. They generally have stock 👍
Any clue when Nike will restock/release more?
Hi Heidi - unfortunately not - sign up to Nike's free membership on the site and favourite the shoes - then you'll get a notification when they come back in to stock. You can specify size as well in your preferences.
heard from some people that they break quickly
We've both been using these in comps and in training and they are holding up well. They take some getting used to because of the return of energy of the foot plate especially when starting off the bend, but they are a great spike. Nike have a 2 year warranty on their shoes so if you do have a problem you can always get a replacement.
my son has had about 6 pairs of theses and within doing 2,3 or 4 200mtr races the carbon plate breaks on the same shoe every time. nike always replaces them but it's still a pain. I've tried to get him to change to a different brand but point blank refuses.
@@gpat244 Ah man that's annoying!
Hello
is this spikes good for 400m
They're great for everything from 100-400m
only if you are running sub- 53 seconds, otherwise i would recommend the victory
I should price
I should too
