The DJI Air 2S is a good drone, but I'd buy the Mini 2 over it anyday, and use the $500 to buy an Osmo Pocket 2. That's my honest opinion. Wait for the DJI Mavic 3. That'll be fire.

I am an Air 2 owner, I get great footage and have no problem with signal strength, however if the mini 2 were available at the time of my purchase, that is the direction I would have gone in, it is by far the best and most bang for you drone bucks you can get. Your footage here is stunning and I loved this honesty and detailed review/opinion When asked by anyone about my drone, as to what they should purchase, I always recommend the Mini2 and I suggest people learn to fly manually.
The bang for buck when it comes to the Mini 2 is incredible. I agree with you, the Mini 2 is very recommendable, I know so many people who have bought it and not one complaint. Manual is the way forward Keith!

I have a Mini 2 and love it so much. I was considering buying a bigger drone once the drone classification system in the UK has been sorted, but considering more competitors are starting to bring out sub 250g drones with more features to complete with DJI, I do anticipate that the DJI Mini 2 will be refined more and more over time with added features and capabilities. So I think I will stick to DJI’s mini range. It is currently... and going forward I think will remain the leader drone in the sub 250g class and will be more than enough for what I use and enjoy the drone for.

I just weighed up getting the Mini 2 or the Air 2S and I went for the Air 2S in the end and I’m super happy with it, my dad has the Mini 2 and it’s an awesome drone but there is no doubt the camera on the Air 2S is better.
The fact you can shoot log and capture more highlight detail in 10bit at 150mbps in my opinion you can really tell the difference.
I personally think you have your analysis the wrong way round, the Air 2S is amazing for the size but I do agree with you is the Air 2S twice as good as the Mini 2, no it’s not.
What you get for £500 ish for the Mini 2 is unbeatable and with the new drone laws in the UK it makes total sense.
That being said I’m super happy with the images from the Air 2S.
It's a cool drone, sure, but no, definitely not worth twice the price. With a few updates I'm sure it'll be flying almost like the Pro. I'm glad you're happy with it, but Dad with the Mini 2, that's cool! You guys must have a blast flying together!
I haven’t had chance to fly with him yet but used to fly my old Mavic Pro alongside his Mini, great fun.

Welcome to the channel! There are rumours that it could be this year which is fast, and following an iPhone type of yearly update, but it’s understandable considering other companies like Hubsan are on DJI’s back with drones that pack more tech into 249g. I have no idea how they did it and I’m interested in the build quality, but it looks promising. I’m sceptical, but we’ll see.
I absolutely love the Air2 and I was thinking Im good with it but I'm actually impressed with the image quality from the Air 2S. It's something that could make me consider an upgrade later on.
I'm not sure about that Eddie, I think the quality on the Air2 is excellent, and not worth upgrading to the Air 2S. I'd wait for a more serious upgrade personally.
I friggin LOVE everything about this video... The intro was inspiring, the review was honest and with integrity. If there is anything I learned by working as an Amazon Product Manager... companies like DJI need to be vocally self critical and focused on the Customer Experience... not just the marketing FLUFF. Like you said the DJI Mini2 is a MONSTER and the value of the Air 2S just isn't enough to make it worth it. I am also a huge DJI drone fan (although newer) and am also saving for the next pro which I will review if they want to send me one :) LOL Thank you Phillip!

I love these vids as they confirm my choice of buying Mini 2, which I've done after owning MIni 1 and because I wanted RAW and better signal. Now, the only thing I am wondering is if it's worth the upgrade because of the bigger sensor and for the purpose of taking photos of better quality?
I do intend to use pano shots as much as possible as that should give photos that are of better resolution.

Hi! So I always recommend two brands, PolarPro and Freewell. It's not about money, as I can affiliate basically any filters, it's about quality. I trust those two. For the Mini 2, Freewell all the way.

I bought the dji air 2s and I can tell that I'm absolutely happy with it. Never have problems yet and the camera is absolutely fire. I think the upgrade is worth it even from the normal air 2 to the s.
It’s a good drone, well, in some parts, but I don’t agree it’s worth an upgrade from the Air 2 or even the Mini 2, unless someone really needs tracking, and I mean really really needs it.

You're welcome! So the Mini 2 is excellent when it comes to signal strength compared to the original, which I sold as soon as I picked up the Mini 2.
I own the mini2 and the air 2s and i have to say I love the mini 2 more. I really wanted to love the 2s and it is a great drone don’t get me wrong. But, I must say in all honesty that I agree with all you have said. Will i sell the 2 s and get the pro 3 when it comes out? Probably not since I really don’t have a need for all that it will be able to do and I’ve already spent my money.
I got the Air 2S and am very happy with it, and have had zero signal problems and has outstanding performance in the wind. I also have unlimited access to a Mavic 2 Pro, and I prefer the Air 2S due to it's better portability, and IMHO the image quality is slightly better, at a lower cost (that's why I got the Air 2S). I also feel just because DJI say's the Air 2S is "compatible" with the Smart Controller, it's maybe a bit presumptive to expect it to work as well as the controller that is shipped with the Air 2S. It's tech that is close to 3 years old, so no doubt it's "compatible" but not the best solution for controlling the Air 2S (may also be a major factor in the loss of the Air 2S). A quick google search will support this idea, apparently there are a lot of connectivity issues with the smart controller. Yes, the Mini 2 is a awesome bit of kit, but it still has a smaller sensor, and a seriously limited VLOS range (I've flown the Mavic Mini a lot). The Air 2S hits the sweet spot for me. More portable than the Mavic 2 Pro (almost half the weight for the quad and 8 batteries), slightly better image quality (not overly soft like the M2P), but not a tiny as the Mini 2 and easier to see in the sky (though the Air 2S does have a shorter VLOS than the M2P).
You do bring up some great points!! But I think it's important to realize that your priorities and needs might be different than others, and for people who use their drones in a similar way, the Air 2S probably is not the best choice? Keep in mind you also have has access to other drones if needed, which may bias your opinion a bit. If image quality/resolution are a real need, especially in low light, then the Air 2S might be the better option? Yes, the M3P will no doubt be an amazing bit of kit. But at what price, and how big/heavy will it be (some days I'm out hiking cross county for hours (6-10hrs) with the drone, that was one of the main reasons for choosing the Air 2S over the M2P and the Autel Evo 2 Pro). With regard to the collision sensors, for me they don't really matter. I seldom (never) rely on the sensors to keep me out of trouble, it seems to often when people really need them, they don't perform that well. If collision sensors are really important, the best option is the Skydio 2. DJI simply isn't quite there yet.
I did really enjoy your video, and the points you made. I just wanted to note a few things that are important to me that made the Air 2S the best option for me, and possibly others. For me it's a better size for portability and visibility, with images equivalent to or slightly better than the M2P, and 5.4K video which makes zooming/cropping in post so much better (sometimes I just can't get that close to what I want to film).

Going a little off-topic I was wondering if you can confirm whether or not you need a any sort of I.D for flying sub 250g drones and whether or not you can fly these over uninvolved persons in Poland. The only info I can find mentions no requirement for this.
I go to Poland every summer and stay in Bielsko-Biala close to the base of the Beskids (my wife is Polish) and would love to capture the area on my Mini 2.

Agree, I was checking that as well and Mini 2 does all that Air 2S pretty much, but its 249g so can fly it pretty much anywhere with no license needed.

@@PhillipSkraba and no side sensors, make no sense than, you still have to watch out for it anyway. At least some countries have 500g rule (less but Turkey for example has that) but its even above that, either get Mavic Pro3 or Mini 2

Spot on man... as well as your Hel water crash video. I totally agree with you. My DJI Air 2S drone crashed at around the same day as yours did in Hel. Mine was doing a circle master shot when it hit a tree. The sensor alarm sounded and so I thought it would stop but it just went on. I also had similar issues with the batteries, which died way too early. Anyway, I'm now using a Mini 2 and it seems to be performing much better than the Air 2s. I wish I saw your videos before I bought the Air 2S. But as you said... you pick yourself back up after a fall.

Yes, all I try and do it focus on the positive side, even here, I'm doing what I can to show everyone that flying is possible with anything, even a tiny 249g drone like the Mini 2. If anyone needs automation and maybe some side sensors, it's worth waiting for the Mavic 3.

Yes, it’s not needed, the Mini 2 does an excellent job. I was tech crazy about it too, however I came to my senses and decided to wait for the Mavic 3.

To me it's almost identical, if you can't pull a good image out of the Mini 2, you won't be able to pull a good one out of the Air 2S, it's that simple.

I just won around $6500 so now the MA2s purchase feels really good in a way 😂 If I find an awesome location, I drain out my 3 battery on the FPV, then I fire up the MA2s for good pictures, I feel the Mini 2 is mad at me because it just sleeps in the bag 😅 I use it like an James Bond undercover drone it's so small and quiet 🤫

May I ask what monitor you’re using to view the Air 2S vs Mini 2 footage? I have a 2s and Mini 2 and although I love the Mini 2, the 2S blows it out of the water in terms of IQ. Way less noise, much higher bitrate, doesn’t fall apart when grading, more DR. It’s night and day on a calibrated monitor.
The size of the Mini 2 is great, and the image quality is excellent considering the price, but if you’re a cinematographer looking for a quadcopter to fit into your tools, the 2S is the better fit.
Sure, Macbook Pro, as well as a Samsung 65". I think if you're a cinematographer you wouldn't go for either of these tools unless it's for family fun. We get funny looks when we say we can pop our Sony a7SIII on our Matrice 600 instead of a Red 😂 At the end of the day, if you can pull a good image out of the Mini 2, well, you're basically gold.
@@PhillipSkraba It's more the bitrate and over-sharpening that's the problem, those things are impossible to fix in post. The video on the Mini 2 is incredible for the price and size, but the Air 2S is much more flexible when doing incredibly harsh grades and matches much better with A roll footage. Even when the Air 2S gets noisy in low light, it looks like actual noise instead of a compression mess on the Mini 2. Still though, bloody impressive drone considering it'll fit in my coat pocket.

If I'm not mistaking, the pad doesn't have anything different when it comes to ocusynch 2 or 3, and it basically comes down to 2 additional antennas installed on the Air 2s. So it's more like Ocusynch 2.5 👀

P.S. in your opening shot you mentioned it being shot on the mini 2, then your second shot on the pro 2, what were the remaining shots captured on. Yes, all of these shots are a mix of the Mini 2 and the Mavic 2 Pro. Both excellent drones!
If I was unfortunate to buy an Air 2S I would definitely modify the shell so I could mount those two extra sensors to look sideways as they should have been in the first place, but I am sticking to the Mini 2 full stop.

Honestly mate WELL DONE TO YOU! I just had to stop in my tracks and write this. Your honesty and integrity say a lot about you as a person, your business and your goals. I haven't even read comments but I can imagine there may be some negatives, don't listen and continue doing what you are doing. I also own a ton of DJI gear, CAA approved operator for year's and into film. Simple tools are massively overseen, Mini 2 is a great machine and I take it everywhere.

Actually, it's a little unexpected, but 99% positive comments on this one. I was ready, all soldiered up for some serious hate, but it seems almost everyone agrees with me.
My pleasure and new sub from me, honesty is definitely something the industry lacks time to time. I have flown the i2 and been flying commercialy for 6 years under my pfco, and I completely agree. The mini 2 blew me away for it's capabilities and 100% deserves a place in my kit bag, truly excellent for the money if known how to get the most of it, not to mention I really have fun flying it unlike some of the other units. Oh damn, that's a great one, one you still can hack! The Mini 2 is the way to go, but if you want something a little more powerful, the 3 Pro hopefully will drop this year.

I just subscribed to your channel two days ago and it was 3 days after I received my Air2S. I sold my Mavic Air1 to buy the Air2S because the Air was really bad with the signal and the battery was so bad. I hope I did the right choice. When I watch your videos I'm thinking the mini 2 is really awesome and so great. I need a good drone for photos and something who can resist through wind and also who can follow me when I do kayaking.

Got the mini 2 as my first ever drone back in January and I've got to say it's really been exceeding my expectations for such a tiny little drone. I got the fly more pack and the DJI replacement plan. The piece of mind is worth the extra investment of your a new pilot.
Sounds like you've got everything you need! The filters really make a difference and yes, DJI Refresh is calming to say the least. Have fun, and be careful out there!

I did my first filming today with my DJI mini 2 at my sister's wedding was very rushed as they were approaching as I was setting it up but I used some of your tips for a great cinematic shot I'm really excited to see the photage in 4k

I have both the Mini 2 and the Mavic 2 Pro. After reading the stats between the Air 2s vs the 2 Pro it was a no brainer to keep my drone. I was actually surprised to see everyone trying to sell their 2 Pro for cheap on Marketplace to switch over. So if anyone is in the market for a drone, you can snag a used 2 Pro fly more package potentially with a hard case and other accessories for around $900. Totally worth it.
I was very surprised to see so many people wanting to swap the Mavic 2 Pro for the Air 2S, which is a completely different level of drone. It's no where near as stable, no where near as well designed or built, silly move.

Hey Philip I have the Mavic Air 2 and Mavic 2 Pro. Do you think the Mavic Mini 2 is better than any of these drones? I'm just not really digging the Air 2S Right now. I also heard the FAA will be requiring some kind of tracking as well. What do you think I should do? Sell off and wait for the mavic 3 or maybe get the mini 2?
I think you have two great drones, you don't need to upgrade at all at this moment in time. If I were you I'd wait for the Mavic 3, mind you the Mini 2 is an excellent pocket drone. I mixed in Mavic 2 Pro footage and Mini 2 footage in the beginning of this video, if you can't tell which is what, well, I'd pick up a Mini 2.

I have the Mini 1. Absolutely love it for VLOS. I have no use for 4k and it has never let me down. I has the MA2 but quickly sold it ... just to much money to lay around. As a Hobbyist... that $500 mark is the top of the sweet spot.
I flew the Mini 1 for a long time but the signal was too frustrating for me and the situations I put it in, so the Mini 2 with it’s Ocusync 2.0 signal put me at ease. Yes, $500 is a great price tag!

That's the best choice you could make! The Mavic 2 Pro is a worth drone, very stable, very powerful. I'd personally wait for the Mavic 3 however.

The issue with sensors is that they drain battery because they capture data and then it needs to be processed with a GPU. So front and back sensors + side sensors is way too much energy, you end up having 10min flight with all activated. Or alternativety 4 batteries like with the Inspire. I personnally crashed my mavic air 1 because it Returned to Home and started to go up, and it was below a tree. Sensors at the top would be very useful. Or perhaps a moving sensor facing the direction it goes.,

And I was scratching my head when I was thinking of buying the air 2s.
The weight to battery ratio is way way way better on mini 2.
If you put a heavier drone in air with same buttery life ( in minutes in air) mini 2 is much better at that.

Phillip, what SD card and software do you use to get these quality vids transferred over? I just purchased an Air2s, but uploading a 1080p 30fps is pretty terrible this day and age lol!
I use a Sandisk Extreme Pro and Final Cut Pro X. All footage in this video is from the Mini 2, except for the actual log footage from the drowned Air 2S. The Air 2S should have pretty crisp images though!
