  • In this video, I continue telling the story of my reintegration into the free world after spending 11 years in prison. In the summer of 2019 I was struggling to find a job, feed myself, and fulfill the requirements of my parole. However, I learned to look past the things I couldn't control and enjoy the little things that come with freedom.

    You made it through 11 years of prison , so I know you can make it out here. This can even be helpful for those who had never been to prison

      For sure, Harvey. We just have to keep our heads up and keep our eyes on the prize.

    It’s all about having a support network. Very few, if anyone, can move through tragedy without people to spare necessary resources.

    My dad had to mow the lawn with a push-mower in Vancouver in the 1960s. It gets hot in Vancouver. REALLY hot. Food assistance programmes are paid for by tax-payers, so it's not like you are getting them for free. You are paying into the system that everyone pays into - and sometimes, you just have to ask for help. And I can guarantee you that most of the people here don't mind if you must rant from time-to-time about your situation; most of us love you and want to hear about your story.

    Man I've been through too much shit to tell but I cry every day knowing I will never achieve my dreams due to the health problems that put me in my position. I don't struggle with money so much but health.. yeah, I'm only 36 and have had more problems than an 80 year old man. But your message is what I needed to hear. I have so many good things around me I need to stop dwelling on what I can't control. Thank you Eric, you're fucking awesome man!

    • @EricSwanson1
      @EricSwanson1  Рік тому +3

      Hey Nick, I'm glad you found it helpful. Health problems are very tough to deal with, for sure, and it's hard to deal with. All of that pain, struggle, and sorrow is valid. It's 100% valid. That's all the more reason to appreciate the good things. That's valid, too. There are many legitimately painful and difficult things that are outside of our control, but it's a welcome escape when you can just say, "Hey, I don't know how to deal with this situation over here or if I can, but I do know that I can enjoy this over here in the present moment." It's a welcome relief when you can appreciate and enjoy the good things. It's good for your heart and mind. Keep your head up, man. I'll see you in the next one!

    Things will get better if you keep keeping on, I have no doubt of that. We have advocates working with us on the other side. It's ok to ask for their help. I keep thinking you would make a good counselor of some sort. Great video!

      Well said! It's amazing what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it, and that includes getting through the struggle. I agree, it is okay to ask for help and it's actually very important. Building a good support system is a big part of success in anything. Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

    Very inspirational . If anything positive can come from the prison experience it seems that it forces one to embrace minimalism .

      Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes it can be hard to get motivated, but it's important to push through to the other side. It's equally important to be present in the moment for all the good things that we have. It's easy to become so overwhelmed with the bad that we don't see the good.

    19:49 What is a 'DA'?

    • @EricSwanson1
      @EricSwanson1  Рік тому

      A "DAW" is a digital audio workspace or digital audio workstation. It's software that allows you to record and mix tracks, add EQ and effects, and export it all as one track. Here is a good video on it ua-cam.com/video/VJfMhuQYshA/v-deo.html
