Best way to eat lobster is outdoors in a casual setting like a family event or at a New England seafood shack. We do a family lobster feast once a year and it’s one of my favorites. It’s coming up this weekend and I’m here for my annual refresher course. This is definitely the way to do it. After two 1 1/2 pounders I am STUFFED. And it turns it into more of an activity; not like just chomping down a lobster roll or something. I tried crab on the Outer Banks a few years ago; it was fine, but as much if not more work and I was still hungry after half a dozen
Go for it man! Just now I have cooked and eaten my first at 53, although I have eaten it twice before at restaurants.... Contrary to other comments, follow this chap and it's dead easy and not a faff at all.... I just used a steak tenderiser for the claws and a butter knife....One idea ?I had that worked well for me was serve it on a baking tray on a double folded layer of greaseproof paper, it helps soak up the excess water and also grips the claws as you hammer them... Then when finished, fold in the remnants, squeeze the water out and bin the remnants... Happy days!
I've got a question. If you order a lobster in a nice restaurant for example where everyone is eating steak or scallops, how are you supposed to eat a lobster without making such a mess and getting all dirty? But I can't imagine being served just the meat pieces either.. I never ordered lobster so I am genuinely interested in experiences of others.
+overTIMe Good restaurants pre-crack and open the tail before serving. The tail is sliced in half underneath so it doesn't ruin the aesthetic appeal of the lobster when it arrives. That, with the right tools and cutlery - you'll be mess free.
no matter what you do it will always be messy. but everyone will envy you. it's delicious and well worth it. you might want to try crab too. imo it's more challenging
If you do what he did in the video you will be fine. Of course like eating crab legs, your hands will get messy. Most places I have eaten them will give you a wet nap and a towel. Crab and lobster are two of my top 5 favorite foods. They are somewhat similar but neither one is comparable to the other, entirely. You should consider Alaskan King Crab as well. Very expensive, but as the name states, it is the king of crab in my opinion.
that’s your loss not all food is meant to be nice and clean and perfectly ready for you and it’s definitely worth it nothing wrong with a little effort to get the best out of ur food instead of wasting small but delicious parts of it compared to the people who spend lots of time farming/catching these lobsters to provide for us
I've just cooked and eaten my first lobster..... I've only had it twice before at restaurants. Once when I was I think 16, thermidor when i was 33ish and now 53 just in salted water and it was the best ever now.... Four distinctly different flavours and textures... Incredible..... So sweet to a kind of buttery and wonderful vinegar flavour with the liver...... I just boiled for two mins in a little salt and fast simmered for 10 mins and served.... I don't see the point in adding anything else now, it would just spoil the flavours for me I think.
Yes! thank you. I can never understand why people don't eat everything. I like to eat till every thing is gone. My grandma always told me there are starving people out there. Clean your plate. So when I eat there is nothing left but the shells and bones.
There’s good reasons to not eat the tomales anymore, lobster and crabs are bottom feeders and tend to accumulate more pollutants like mercury, dioxins and pcbs in their pancreas. But eat what you want.
Hey great vid! I should have watched this first, but I managed to eat most of the lobster - I stopped at the body since I didn't know what to do nor was told at the time, but next time, I'll know!
Hello Jasper, I have a couple of questions for you. You had a recipe for a lobster stew that was published in Yankee magazine a while back. I do believe they mentioned that that recipe was also published in a cook book as well. Would you be able to tell me the name of the cook book? I have made this stew, and I have to say it is the best lobster stew I have ever had! If it’s made right, lol, I have managed to mess it up. The one difference I made was to add some sherry @ the end!, man does that make a difference! My second question is, what type of wine would you suggest for the stock? Thanks for your time, Jim
Hi James - My company produced the Jasper video. The cookbook you're looking for is Lobster at Home - it has Jasper's excellent recipe for traditional lobster stew. Lots of other great recipes in there as well...enjoy!
I was thinking of something exciting to eat, something I have never tried before when this lockdown ends. But it seems like in addition to paying so much for this thing, you have to work your ass off just to get the meat out! I guess I'm good with good old chicken.
Nice vid! I learned that you should get it while its hot. Also to pump the water out of the claws. The tamale looks to sus, I dont think I could eat it!
Good for you Jasper for eating lobster the non-wasteful way that alot of people do - not breaking apart the lobster body to eat the morsels in there. It's messy work but you get to eat all the meat on the lobster.
I’m not a vegetarian but after watching you explain that a lobster uses their walking legs to walk on the sea floor before ripping them all off just put me off this for life 😅
Big struggle for a piece of meat, it takes 20min to only get to that meat😂. When others finish eating, I'm only starting, but I'll finish it soon as it's only one bite. Not to mention that you get dirty up to the elbows, seems to be a pleasure😂
And I thought eating lobster was fancy.
Some people eat lobster because they like to eat lobster. Some however eat lobster because they like to feel fancy.
Bandit King nailed it sir ...
THE WAY HE SHOWS IT IS WERD, I DID NOT LIKE
Lol
😂😂😂
Now you get the walking legs, these are the lobsters leg which is what the lobster uses to walk around 😂
Very straightforward, very understandable and smart, I like the way he explain the whole thing :)
I think I'm gonna stay with my steak..
The loss is entirely yours. You should at least try steak and lobster. Love it, great dinner combination.
Try lobster don't miss out. It's a man food
Rioclaro2 I eat blue rare steak. How do you eat your steak?
The only streak that is fancy is wagyu or kobe
Anything else isn't amazing, but it's ok
@@rioclaro2 is that called surf and turf? I'm going to a place next week and never had it before?

Who said anything about outer banks that show is over rated
@@JameGoFast maybe so, I’ve never seen it. You do know it’s named for an actual place, right?
Me and my wife in the restaurant trying to figure it out on yt
I feel you, am in the same situation right now
Same thing here
@Dank562 have a good luck, I fought my battle and won :)
@VJ-zm5xi thanks bro, its actually not that bad or good either
@@Dank562 agree 👍
He has such old movies voice 😊
I'm sorry. That seems like a huge pain in the ass.
Americans...
Then just swallow it whole lol
its Fibonacci was I not just about to say the same thing? 😂😂😂
it's really really tasty though trust me!
its Fibonacci I’m American and died laughing at this😂😂😂
I wonder why the legs are called walking legs.... Hmm...
Claws are also considered as legs. That's why the legs he uses for walking are called walking legs and the other two are for preying.
They're not nearly as tasty as the standing legs.
Fantastic, thanks from Chingford UK. I stll haven't eaten a lobster yet at 56 - I'm looking forward to my first one. Cheers Jasper.
You'll dig them! Thanks for watching

Never order for a date dinner haha
Take this guy out to dinner with you and buy him a lobster too. He'll give you step by step instructions at the table.
Never tasted lobster in my life... but for some reason my mouth was watering 😍
Did you try it yet? 🦞
no matter how delicious it might be, i am not willing to go through all that mess for food.
+Zel Yang I think he means in a nice restaurant, not facing starvation in the apocalypse ;D

Your loss, nerd.
I've never had lobster I really want to try it but I think I would only eat the tail, claws and legs. I dont like the look of what's inside the body 😂
Yeah, I tried the tomalley once and didn't like it. I'll stick to the meat from the claws, knuckles, legs, and tail.
no matter how nasty it looks, i'd try his way
Thank you! I just cooked three fresh lobsters. I'm ready to dig in :)
Lucky.. I wish I can eat some
I would like to eat lobster someday, but is this exactly what you do at a fine dining high class restaurant?
In a “fancy” restaurant they give you the lobster meat already extracted
Ok. For my next birthday I had planned to do things I've never done before like eat lobster. But hell, this is just TOO much trouble.
Now I know, so next time I'm at the restaurant I won't make a fool of my self 👩🏻🍳🦞🤗
Great demo!!
his nails are so clean! so proud of him
Today will be having ocean bugs
Thank you. Very informative.
Is there a summer shack in NYC?
About to put this on practice.
Watching all these lobster and crayfish videos makes me hungry. XD
How old are you now.?
Vielen lieben Dank für die Aufklärung ❤
It takes me half an hour to eat one lobster but it’s worth it 😝
Half an hour is not bad
Thanks for posting!
I’m curious about how the lobster was made. I’m almost positive that it’s not grilled or roasted. Is it just boiled?
This lobster was steamed
Julia Cruz thank you!

you are genious :D im sure i wont remember about half of this after few glasses of wine but good job sir! :D
I'm allergic to shellfish now, this video makes me cry 😭
I just use paramedic scissors and bust it open in 30 seconds flat.
Very informative
It helps that he had super strong hands!
Thank you sir
sooo good
Now I know everything.
Great video...
I love lobster
Just order Lobster rolls and you dont have to do any work, and you get to see what lobster tastes like.
do lobsters taste good?? i never had before
Nah. The lobster is coated in dressing and a bunch of other stuff so you can’t even taste the lobster. That’s the worst easy to eat it.
NOW IM A PRO
Great video
You make it look so easy
i bought a lobster and i don't know what to do it anymore after watching this.
Did you buy any after, in 6 years from then?
Mr. Beans eating shrimp was easier ;o(
I know this is 5 years ago, but I bought the same thing lol
I searched this after seeing it
I'd really like to try eating a lobster but that seems to be too difficult
Thanks for this I'm about to have all you can eat high quality lobster and other food in a month.
Squeeze en suck it at the same time, sounds nice! I suddenly want to be a lobster😂

I agree! Also, I never trust a chef who discards the head and only cooks the tail.
he dismantled that lobster like Marines dismantle guns damn

how the fuck i got here!
Mmm that looks good
I know right. It made my mouth water
My 1st thought as he pulled the tail meat out: "Gimme, gimme gimme!"
Ha ha ha
Loveeee lobster 🦞🦞🦞

he sounds like Christopher walken
My order after the board meeting !
Nice and simple haha. Just ate a lobster now, and watched this earlier. Would be more awesome if flavored with sweet chili garlic etc
Never ate lobster before but, I would like to try one
New subscriber 💕💕💕
I'm so hungry for lobster now!
No lobster was harmed during the making of the video
Thanks for the help! One of the messiest dishes I served but worth the effort!
I don't know how i feel about that green stuff but that lobster looks good🦞
thx boss!
Yes I have a date tomorrow and yes I don’t want to embarrass myself
This one I'm gonna eat lol he couldn't resist
Well. I came here to watch him eating
You should go to Woo&Pep diet website. You can find there the best diet instructions I think.
Thank you

Same I'd rather just buy a lobster that's already been prepared :/ it looks way too messy to eat at a table or something
Now I'm hungry
Some simple things I did not know!
I never had lobster, tell me, is it worth the taste?
Someone made it fancy.
Hard work jaja
Eating crustaceans is always complicated.
Shrimp with extra steps?
Nice vid! I learned that you should get it while its hot. Also to pump the water out of the claws. The tamale looks to sus, I dont think I could eat it!
Looks easy but he strong lol
The background music is a bit spooky.
Nice
It actually looks really easy ngl
What is this herasy where you don't put the meat immediately into the butter? Why leave it on the plate to cool?
3:03 that's what he said
Looks yummy

I really want to try lobster, but it's so fucking gruesome having to pull the damn thing apart. I wish lobster was more accessible.
Small fork to get the meat out? This isn't a meal for ants. I'm using the large fork.
Imagine if lobsters were sentient and they saw this video. With that said, I love eating lobsters
I like to use Lobster Shears.
this guy's a damn pro. thank you, mr white.
Lobsters actually taste good despite the looks of the flesh.
We use to break crab biggest claws with teeth... Indians never use this breakers.. we have teeth
And I thought trying to get all the chicken was a pain
