“Love IS what we came here for” says it all. RIP, Lesley.

If Elton had never recorded anything before or after Tumbleweed Connection, he could lay claim to having created one of the greatest musical masterpieces in history.

Was a big fan of Lesley Duncan in the 70's. She was one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of her time. She definitely didn't get the commercial success that she deserved.

So true. I mean, growing up in the 70’s, shit, there was Taylor, Simon, King, and of course Cohen. But this girl somehow got overlooked. Dunno why.

This little gem gets no mention when people talk about Elton's best songs. This live version with the sadly deceased writer of the song, Lesley Duncan performing vocals with Elton make this very special indeed. Just beautiful.

My thoughts exactly...Funny how one could mistake her voice timbre and tonal range on this song with that of Natalie Merchant from 10,ooo maniacs....just sayin...or is it just me.

I prefer both of their album versions of this sound. More wistful and intimate. This is like the R & B or disco version (1976 was a different vibe than 1971 was 😅) and less sparse and therefore it doesn't have the same emotional punch to me but I still come back to it because it's still good music. 🙂

I became aware of Lesley Duncan listening to If I Could Change Your Mind by the Alan Parsons Project, and really liked her voice. Natalie Merchant has a similar tone. First time I heard EJ's version of this song. Reminds me how much music I haven't heard: most of it!

@2:57 Dee Murray's bass on this going into the jam "follow me, I know the way!" Great guitar solo by Davey Johnstone. This is such a great song for being a 2 chord thing. Beautiful and haunting. Loved this album, had it on vinyl when it came out.
