    They filmed the fight scenes in 8 days, Iko said in a interview "when we did the fight scenes, we did, as much as we could, full body contact. If we could get away with it, we’d put padding on [the performers] but we couldn’t sometimes [laughs] He also said that a lot of the fighters got injured, but they’re all still alive!"

    On the subtitles, some of them are added words for clarity, but most of the times they're shorter than the actual words the actors spoke. Indonesian is actually wordier and has more syllables than English for a same word to spell.
    3:59 "Apa anda lihat itu perlu?" // "Do you think that was necessary?" -- "What the fuck was that?"
    "Itu perlu" // "That was necessary" -- "Necessary"
    "Keadaan di luar aman" // "Situation at the outside is clear" -- "Exterior secured"
    6:45 "Jangan sampe lo tinggalin gua di situ" // "Don't you leave me behind back there" -- "Don't fucking leave me with that guy."
    "Dia bukan bagian dari mereka" // "He's not one of them"
    "Bangsat itu pasti bakal membelah gue. Kalo ga, gue gentayangin lu" // "That bastard will surely split me up. If not, I'll haunt you" -- "If that bastard cuts me I swear to God I'll haunt you"

    I've been putting people up on this movie for 5 or so years. Everytime I watch it I say the same 2 words. GOD DAMN! Absolutely love the way it was filmed. American Martial Art action movies really need to take notes. The choreography is insane, and the camera work captures all of the hard work that went into it.

    Still better than 80-90 percent of Hollywood action movies today. In terms of recent Hollywood movies, the John Wick movies, Shang-Chi, and Everything Everywhere All At Once are exceptions (I may be missing a few, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head). Action wise, the bar’s been set so high that if you don’t impress your audience like these action/martial arts movies do, your audience’s gonna be left disappointed.

Also helps that it was an Indonesian movie, which is the biggest muslim country in the world. Which a lot of people aren't even aware of. They hear muslim and think Arabs. Such a damn great movie.
    This movie is also what made shows like DareDevil and Arrow do hallway fights. Arrow season 1 mimicked a hallway fight from this movie for example.

      @@DanteRU0312 My point is what I said. Muslims are regularly depicted as the bad guys. Here in this movie the protagonist was a muslim cop. Starting the movie with him praying and caring for his pregnant wife. Something you won't see in any Hollywood movie. In a standard Hollywood movie or tv show he'd go out and do something terrible. Just like how Hollywood used to depict black people as goofy caricatures, Asian men would be emasculated while muslims and especially Arabs still get depicted as the bad guy. Even when they're Muslim Americans in series like Homeland, they're sleeper agents for something terrible. Giving the message that even western looking muslims that talk perfect English can be a terrorist. With no opposing viewpoints of muslims that have a heroic role. Which all fuels the image that every single muslim is a bad guy. The Raid won't break any barriers or cause a revolution in the way people view muslims, but it's a nice break in the stereotypes. It also never was heavy handed or had a SJW flavour. It merely showed a muslim waking up, doing his morning routine, which had prayer in it and he headed out to play his part in the story. This is also a great example of how you could do ''diversity'' in Western movies. Instead of hammering down an SJW message. Like making a badass movie with a female lead character. You don't need to keep hammering down that she's a female, strong and powerful and independent. You can just show that. Something this movie did. It merely showcased a lead character that tried to get out of an impossible situation by being a badass.

      @@nokale0354 YES. thank you!
      the best way to make 'diversity' a thing, especially in entertainment industry is to normalize it. I'm so glad The Raid got the fame it deserved. I'm annoyed at so many tv series and movies these past few years because of how they 'spoon feed' the audience by being 'woke'. you can't do that. it only makes people annoyed. I mean, look at how Birds of Prey does. it's a giant flop.

    • @nokale0354
      @nokale0354 4 роки тому +4

      @@wienzard36 Exactly! Movies like Birds of Prey make you eyeroll. Characters like Felicity on Arrow are incredibly annoying. They're the forced type of ''girlpower''.
      Meanwhile I loved the crap out of Sarah Connor in T2 and Ripley in the Alien movies. They weren't forced, they were just women that went through some shit and came out stronger out of it. Sarah Connor in T1 was a frail woman on the run. In T2 she naturally turned into a badass after going through shit and having to survive, she had to adapt to the craziness in her life. It feels more organic like that.
      Nowadays we just get female characters thrown in our faces that for some reason can throw men around that are 4 sizes bigger than them. Sarah Connor didn't do that, she'd just aim her shotgun on a Terminator. I don't think many people hate those badass female characters while a lot of ''us'' can't stand many modern day ''woke'' characters.
      Here's how to write a strong female character: give her strengths and weaknesses, don't make her perfect, nobody is. Male characters that are perfect are also boring. Except when a movie or tv show uses that ''being perfect'' as somekind of ironic plotpoint to make a point or whatever. Weird example: a Johnny Bravo thought he was perfect, super handsome etc. But he failed in every episode and his behavior clearly wasn't the right behavior. He thinks he's perfect, but nobody else does. This is how they write female characters nowdays on shows like Arrow: Felicity is praised by everyone, she's perfect, does dumb shit, doesn't get much consequences for it. Girlpower! It would be more interesting if she had to face her demons.

I can assume from your expressions that when you watch it you feel tension as if you are in the film, this film is one of the best Indonesian action films that uses authentic Indonesian martial arts techniques namely silat in it. Hopefully Indonesian films can provide entertainment and experience for those who watch it. Greetings from Indonesia 🇲🇨.

    The Raid/Dredd comparison is an interesting "chicken or the egg" scenario. Alex Garland is one of the sharpest, most intelligent screenwriters of the modern era. He doesn't need to rip off anyone. While The Raid came out first, it's known that his script for Dredd had been available for all to read online for quite some time prior while the film was stuck in development hell forever. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter because it's a fairly basic concept that's been around at least as long as Kung Fu Master on the Atari 2600 . . . but it's funny watching people argue over which came first when the bottom line is they're both great films you can enjoy.
    Raid 2 is better than Raid 1 by the way, for my money.

    • @Merc1987
      @Merc1987 4 роки тому +1

      I 'm always slightly annoyed every time someone says "They copied X" in either direction. As you said, its one of the most simple concepts ever (Game of Death anyone?) but the differences are the characters and the style. Here the cops are outnumbered and overpowered, but in Dredd, these are Judges, and they're on a whole other level.
