Hey Fam!! We have watched The Raid 2 and it will be next week’s movie reaction. We do these reactions LIVE with the community over on twitch every week (Friday night PST this week). Come join us, we have a blast: www.twitch.tv/stikkerg
Just to be fair, this movie came out before Dredd, however, I think Dredd was in production for a year before this movie. So, it's genuinely just a strange coincidence that they both had a very, very similar setting.
Star of this movie Iko Uwais is one BMF!
Edit: Yeah, very similar style and think this came out 1st.
Edit2: Recent series Gangs of London The director Gareth Evans was involved in couple episodes. Great stuff...
Looking forward to it! Man From Nowhere is another one of those amazing foreign films. I'd highly recommend it.
Y'all should watch Iko Uwais other movie named Headshot.
The Raid 2 ROCKS! F*ck John Wick! :-D
Fun fact: The Raid 2 was written first, but the director didn't have the budget to do what he wanted so he made this as a proof of concept so he could get the funding.
Damn never knew that, thanks.
This is awesome..
Not just the script, but also the choreo
And this one is better.
@@n2nother I would have to disagree
Rama and his brother vs. Mad Dog is easily one of my top 10 fight scenes ever.
Same. This will always also be a stand out to me because you’re realizing that their fight against Mad Dog totally came down to luck with that light bulb. Two vs one - yet they were totally getting their butts handed to them by Mad Dog, until that light bulb broke.
And the sequels fight between the guy who played mad dog and Roma in the kitchen is right up there too
@@sheldynbell7381 umm the kitchen fight in raid 2 is not mad dog ( nor yayan who played him) if im not wrong his name is cecep.
top 5 bro, and kutchen scene from the raid 2 is the greatest fight scene
@@wstein244 You are correct. Yayan played the machete assassin earlier in Raid 2.
I cannot tell you how hard it is to come even close to acting out these fight scenes. These actors are so fast and energetic, it unbelievable.
It’s singlehandedly the most influential martial arts movie in the last 10-20 years. Dredd, John Wick, Daredevil, etc you name it, all draw inspiration from this one film.
Dredd was filmed before this movie started filming. Neither movie influenced the other. They both started filming at almost the same time. The raid only 4 months later.
I think Daredevil was inspired by Oldboy, rather than The Raid.
@@Jeremy-jm3fe Inspired by both but more by The Raid, especially in technicality.
John Wick is more inspired by the classic John Woo film, and even uses the same gun fu technique, while for The Raid and Dredd both have the same concept because they are inspired by the first Die Hard film.
Not Dredd. Both movies were in production at the same time. It was just unfortunate for the Dredd crew that this movie came out first because a lot of peeps still think it copied this film.
That door kill remains one of the most brutal takedowns in action movies. Jesus.
That particular scene always successfully drew relieved claps from the audience in Jakarta cinemas when the movie first came out 😁
the expression on Rama's face tell you all about that. He's just like "man, sorry, i just did a REAL bad thing"
2:18 he's one of the guy JOHN WICK fought in John Wick 3..
and one of the few that survive, just because.. Reasons..
You can't kill a fan man
he had to slow down so much to make Keanu Reeves look good lol, so cringe
@@willstylz5021 yea I agree. If you see all the movie Yayan and Cecep choreographed, damn.... They're so fast and brutal. It makes me can't watch action movie with less pace than that.
He is the fight choreographer as well.
@@willstylz5021 Yeah, but it wasn't by accident. They both respected John Wick as a legend, their characters purposefully took a dive as part of the story.
The Guy Playing Jaka is going to be in the Mortal Kombat movie playing Sub -Zero
My good friend Cappi Ireland did the costumes for MK and I know that the Sub-zero and Scorpion fight may go down in history as the most badass fights ever. Cast and crew all think this is a sliced of fried gold
He also is one of the main actors in Warrior-and he's GREAT.
he was in fast and furious 6 - Joe Taslim
As Manas in Star trek beyond
They shoulda used Iko & Yayan!!
The Raid changed the way fight scenes and action in movies could be forever. You can tell every decent movie after 2011 (ones like John Wick) got their inspiration from this. Gareth Evans is the director of this and The Raid 2 (which you need to watch) and he really is a perfectionist. Joe Taslim who played Jaka and Iko Uwais who played Rama both said on a podcast with Scott Adkins that the director for this was like no other. They said he would spend days on one fight scene and make sure it looked perfect for the camera before moving on. It really shows in these movies as they are certainly some of the best fight scenes ever choreographed. If you're wondering the main style of martial arts in this movie, its one called Silat, very specific and one you wont have seen much in movies before
Saw it briefly on "The Accountant"
Mike Shinoda (rapper from Linkin Park) did the score and he did an amazing job!!
indeed
Wait I did not know this! No wonder it was so good!
This film along with it's sequel are some of best action/ martial arts films I've seen. The action, directing, cinematography and story are god level. Awesome choice Nikki and Steven.
its sequel
I knew about the movie before you
That little guy is from John Wick 3. They do a two on one versus John Wick. I read somewhere that didn't kill those characters because they wanted to give them the respect for the Raid.
The other guy in that fight is from Raid 2.
@@JnEricsonx They are different Characters portrayed by the same actor
@@Tar-Maron Jon Ericson could be talking about either of the two Indonesian actors in JW3. Both Yayan and Cecep are small in stature and both are in Raid 2.
I didn't think I could enjoy action as much as I did in this movie, but then I watched The Raid 2. Not only does the choreography get better, but so does the directing, story, and world building.
This movie and its sequel are are so far the best depictions of Pentjak Silat, a group of martial arts styles from Indonesia, Malaysia, Southern Thailand and the Southern Philippines.
Fun fact: the main protagonist and Mad Dog actors were in fact the choreographers for these fights. Absolute masters. I can never watch an older martial arts movie again after these and Donnie Yen’s IP MAN movies.
The martial art in this movie is called Silat. It’s the Indonesian cousin to the Filipino Martial Arts, of which I’ve been a practitioner for many years.
Both are known for their combat oriented nature, efficiency and brutality.
Its also related to Muay Thai
@@kharilane1340 No actually Silat and Kali use sticks for training. Muay Thai is about straight of the body.
Silat and Kali is also can use in self-defense, against disarming someone with a knife.
Kali Escrima?
@@paul5475 Yes they do use sticks but that's not all they use. The hand to hand combat is very similar to Muay styles. This is to be expected considering how close Indonesia is to the Philippines and Thailand.
@@kharilane1340 no bro it's not similar
"This is the most amazing fight choreography"
Wait til u watch Raid 2
The main actor here iko uwais is an indonesian and his martial art style is silat...it is a traditional martial art style in indonesia.....just to know..😌
And the style specializes in tight confined areas
@@joshuawood3055 yeah
Can't wait until your reaction to The Raid 2.
they just did it today over on twitch
Agree👍👍👍👍👍
And The Night Comes For Us!
i cant wait till The Night Comes For Us
@@obersmith are they gonna upload that one to youtube?
I like how Steven tries to hide how much he likes the violence and fails miserably! :D
OMG, I'm dying, Nikki with her Minnesota accent going, "For fuck sake!" every 2 minutes is killing me! XD
That and her calling folks who get capped bitch crack me up everytime!!!
I usually watch dubbed, but the lead villain's performance, even in a different language, is so terrifying and delivered so well... dubbed doesn't do it justice. Can't wait for you guys to see the sequel!
You realize that watching movies dubbed takes away the performance and delivery no matter the movie . You’re doing yourself an injustice
@@mstrike69 yeah I agree👍 this movie showed me that lol
I don't mind reading subs as long as those Indonesian and Korean Made them pictures. those 2 countries are on the top right now esp Action/martial arts genre. 👌👍
the Actor that play the boss, is one leading senior actor in Indonesia, Ray Sahetapy. He grew up through live performance theater, and teach in a art university as well. He's like the Indonesian De Niro, something like. Actually he played a scene in Marvels Civil War, but they cut that scene.
@@lacsarlacsar3566 I love that. Anyone who can pull that much emotion in a different language deserves his merit
Jaka, the one that went one on one with Mad Dog, is played by Joe Taslim and he plays Sub-Zero in the new Mortal Kombat movie.
And Rama has been in 22 Miles, the lead in Wu Assassins-which I need to watch, and is gonna be in the new Snake Eyes movie.
@@JnEricsonx and a new wu assassin movie.
also in the awesome series created by Bruce Lee "Warrior" on HBO MAX😀
@@tootspogsforever5590 Warrior is amazing!
The only problem with The Raid is that you can only experience it for the first time once
Yeah, i wish i got amnesia someday and watch it again. But before i got amnesia i'll make a list first so that i can't forget my plan hahaha
This movie revamped the modern action genre along with films like ip man, ong bak 2, district 13 U and Undisputed series in late 2000s. Completely revolutionized modern choreography like Jackie did in the 90's
"This is fkn Dredd right now" - Nikki. This came out first so when my mates and I saw Dredd we were like "this is the fkn raid, right?" Lol. Also fun fact; A bunch of these dudes were in Star Wars 7. They were one of the groups Han Solo owed money to. 'Kanja Club' or something like that. Anyway, hi from Australia guys!
Came across the trailer for this back in the day-God, 11 years now, and it was showing in a local theater. EPIC. Also, there's a reason Iko Uwais, the lead, and Joe Taslim, the Sgt who got killed by Mad Dog, are in American productions right now.
Yayan (Mad Dog) is as well.
"This is some high level - OH, SHIT! - martial art."
That right there is the best description of the Raid film indeed.
One of my all time favourites movies ! Iko Uwais the best martial artist ever. Joe Taslim is amazing in this too
Joe learned a valuable lesson. Never fist fight a Mad Dog!!!
I love how Nikki empathizes with the bad guy whose knee is completely cut to shreds by Rama. In truth, that’s real knife fighting. It’s over really quickly...
Nikki's reactions give me life, she's hilarious
She's the reason I subscribed. Her genuine reactions are gold.
@@kharilane1340 absolutely me too 🤣🤣🤣
Right! 🤣🤣
She and Emily are UA-cams reigning queens. Two thumbs up.
The stunts and action sequences in both movies are absolutely insane. By the way, the martial art used in these films is called Silat.
Pencak Silat to be exact
I knew you guys would love it. Now, on to Raid 2.
The actor playing the Squad captain and speaking at 1:50 is Sub Zero in the new upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. I'm really looking forward to seeing that!
The Raid and even more so it's sequel are freaking great. Glad to see you guys checked this out!
its sequel
@@kuhpunkt Grammar police 😕
@@paulcurran4786 What's wrong with proper grammar?
@@kuhpunkt u understood the comment, so u didnt need to bring it up.....dont be that guy 👍
@@paulcurran4786 And you didn't need to be that guy that calls other people grammar police.
This was one of my favorite martial art films ever, so much brutality and carnage
yes his name is pencak silat
"Headshot" and "The Night Comes for Us" after The Raid 2 all are Iko Uwais films.💡👍
The 'familiar guy' was Mad Dog, and yes, he was one of the two who tumbled with John Wick in his third movie. He and Iko Uwais (this movie's protagonist) were playing a minor role in Star Wars. You can find Joe Taslim in a lot of western films. These Indonesian boys has grown a lot and I'm proud of 'em (I'm Indonesian XD)
There's only one word to describe the fights in this movie. Relentless!
Steven you should recognise those guys.
Not only did they fight John Wick in Part 3, they were also the leaders of one of the pirate crew Han Solo ripped off in Star Wars: The Force Awakens!
i really like how they made this movie very on point, that group of Machete guys from the looks are group of men from east of Indonesia that mostly using Machete as every day tools.
You just gotta love Nikki's energy throughout the entire movie 🤣
Just for your knowledge! The main protagonist’s elder brother Jaka played by (Joe Taslim) is also playing Sub Zero in the upcoming new mortal kombat film! Him along with Iko Uwais are actually good friends and considered one of the best martial artist in Indonesia and is definitely getting their fame now in the Hollywood!
"greatest hand to hand combat fight in the hallway of a building" im going to say it again... oldboy (2003)
Yes that is a sick hallway fight just a big brawl
With no cuts too... it was genius
I live for Nikki's reaction ! She's so natural. She's like every momma when watching the raid.
17:35 FUN FACT: That guy is SUB ZERO in the New Mortal Kombat Movie
With penchak Silat and those actors they really give themselves some punch and kicks that’s why they all work at least six months together to not hurt themselves badly during the shooting. Mad dog did all the choreography of the movie and also second movie berandal and now iko uwais also now produce and does the same you should see all his movies . Greetings from France 🇫🇷
Assalamu'alaikum... From Melayu Indonesia.🙏🤲
Steven: are you alright?
Nikki: that was a lot.
Me: That's what she said.
I was constantly shouting "BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!" while watching it. This, the "Ong Bak" movies and "Chocolate" renewed my faith in the genre.
So the director of this movie Gareth Evans has made it very well known that he wants his next project to be a Deathstroke movie with Joe Mangenello.
We need to rally the same fans who willed the Snyder Cut into existence to get this movie made NOW!!!!!
Fun fact the guy who plays Mad Dog , Yayan Ruhian is actually a real life master of Kateda a form of Pencak Silat (Martial arts that is used in the movie) that put emphasize on breathing technique.
And he also trained the Indonesian Presidential Guard, PASPAMPRES (Our version of Secret service) for 2 years.
Everyone: "I told y'all so!"😂 "Mad Dog" - One of the few bad guys that's so good you start to root for him! He did the choreography for the movie and yes, he's one of the 2 "polite" guys John Wick fights. Great pic guys, see you on the next one!
6:26 "just kidding we are nothing, just delivering pizza" LOL, they should really consider add that line if they do remake the movie
This was just the next step in the evolution of martial arts in movies. Someones always gotta take it a little bit further, make it look better. They have insanely talented folks in this movie and it's so perfectly shot too.
Gareth Evans the writer/director/choreographer is from my home town in Wales in the UK he's a next level guy hoping you'll watch The Raid 2 and hopefully his TV series Gangs Of London amazing reaction guys!!
This was the action movie that started a new wave. Gareth Evans is goated because of these movies.
Tony Ja is one of the best actors/martial artists in any movies. You guys should definitely check out more of his work!
3:26 - "That was a LOT." I just love that that's after maybe the calmest part of the whole movie.
fun fact: the guy whos fighting the brothers 2 on 1 is actually the stunt/fight choreographer
LOL..your reaction.
The first time I heard about the Raid Redemption, using Pencak Silat. I was like, really, you're using Pencak Silat, and I wonder how brutal the movie would be. I am Indonesian and I did Pencak Silat in school only for 1 semester. It is beautiful but deadly.
Imagine me going to cinema with bunch of my friends, watching with no freaking Pause button.
Fights after fights after fights. It's beautiful yet deadly. I just couldn't take my eyes off of the big screen.
In all the fight scenes, you know exactly the position, the left-right, as if you were there directly watching the fight. I was rooting for Rama for the whole movie. I wanted him to go back safely to his pregnant wife. And when the movie was ended, I felt so tired, due to the Adrenaline rush, I guess, seeing so many fight scenes.
the moment nikki started to freak out to the shooting scene in the beginning i already knew this was gonna be rough for her😂
The guy who created it has a tv show called Gangs of London and it’s amazing!!
NASA need to save this movie in "When Alien try messing with Us" Categories, just in case
The final fight baddie on this movie and the final one in The Raid 2 were the 2 guys that fought John Wick on the glass room. They were involved in the choreography for that movie. Also the music for this movie was done by Joseph Hahn, the DJ from the band Linkin Park
Sorry but it's Joseph Trapanese and Mike Shinoda (the rapper) from Linkin Park that made the score.
I somewhat wish I hadn’t seen the Raid films first because they made the John wick action scenes so PG.
Raid 2 prison yard scene is a masterpiece
"....dude had a lot of heart" Now that's a reaction. U two are fantastic. I saw this movie when it came out and always try to get friends to see it who haven't. Keep em coming.
Incredible choreography, incredible cinematics, great music... in this movie -and in the sequel as well-, the blows and slashes make you feel almost real pain.
The Raid and Dredd were made around the same time and the similarities in the scripts is purely coincidental the directors of both movies have confirmed. Great reactions as always Nikki and Steve love you guys
If you guys haven't seen Lost it'd be a great series for you to react to. I love Lost, one of the greatest TV series, definitely worth a watch! 🙂
I am so happy you reacted to this modern martial arts classic!! The choreography is just on a whole other exceptional level!! No matter how many times I watch this, I am always so amazed! Big respect and appreciation to all the film crew and actors who were part of this, especially to the Top Three Badasses: Iko Uwais (Rama), Joe Taslim (Jaka) and Yaya Ruhian (Mad Dog). And yes, Nikki you two have definitely seen Yaya and Iko in a cameo on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Yaya was featured as the main fight in John Wick 3.
The Raid was exceptional and highly technical but if you all that plus some of the gory action scenes ever in Martial arts film then I highly recommend The Night Comes For Us. OMG what a film!!! Please react/review it, I guarantee you will not regret it. Btw that movie also has all three of those badasses!! Always love your reactions!!! 👍👍❤❤
Easily the most underrated martial arts movie that exists.
Underrated? It's widely regarding as the greatest martial arts movie ever made lol.
Both raid 1 & 2 is both the greatest martial arts movies.

Mannnn one of my all time favorite movies! Everything about this movie is epic with its jaw dropping moments on the martial arts scenes….just what gets me every time watching is @16:22 😩👏🏽🤭. Once again great review Nikki and Steven! Keep on doing great work! 💜👍🏽
Mama has her glass of wine - love the nails:-) & Papa is just happy! looks like u had a fun easter :-) great movie, great reaction! x
If you wonders what kind of martial arts using in this movie is actualy ancient Indonesian traditional martial art calls "Pencak Silat" its art of killing
This movie's is one of the greatest fight movies _EVER.._ You should watch District B13! It's made by the guy who invented Parkour
Raid 2 & earlier Uko film like Merantau Warrior, both sick !
If you like this then you would love a series with the same people who done the choreography for the fight scenes here it's called GANGS OF LONDON epic 😎
I remember seeing this in the theater. The choreography is SO GOOD!!!
One of the best action movies. Just wow. Raid part 2 is great too. Do check out Oldboy, the Korean version.
LOVED this reaction! I know from your John Wicks reacts that Steven has MMA experience (At least Jiu Jitsu and he seems very informed on other forms as well), and I can't wait for you guys to see The Raid 2!! Also I'm a 32 year old man and that Coyote Ugly reference from Nikki killed me lmao.
IKO UWAIS is such a monster. Silat is scary as a martial art and he makes every hit look like a fucking truck.
Also Yayan is such a beast
18:24 "Little firemen's carry!" this is such a good movie, and the 2nd film as well! great reaction vid! 😂
The side of the Police Academy movies we never got to see but always knew was there.
This movie came out in 2011, and blew everyone away. This became the template for most of the action films made today. John Wick, Dredd, Hotel Artemis, and most others done today. The action choreography, and camera work are all copied now. Just a bad ass movie from start to finish!!
The one thought that ran through my mind watching your reaction "Wait until you see Raid 2"
“This Coyote Ugly Sucks!” Awesome jab!! Just started watching your reaction vidz, you two are hilarious!! Keep up the awesome job!!!
If you haven't seen Ong Bak yet, you should definitely check that one out.
Merantau, the one that started The Raid series is so underrated. Its not as good but its there and its a start.
Where can I find this movie???
I'm hurting all over watching this movie WOW omg! Great reactions, great timing, btw! Love how you respond to everything.
Audience like you are the most fun to watch something with, not gonna lie.
When the guy stabs this leg and _drag the knife_ I actually felt like my leg gave out. This so _visceral,_ omg!
The intercom scenes with the boss talking to the whole block in this and Dredd could be seen as homages to the radio station in "The Warriors"
The similarities between The Raid and Dredd really are coincidental. Both movies were shot and came out around the same time.
Modern day action masterpiece
i had SO MUCH fun watching you guysss!!! I watched this in the theater with my brother's girlfriend and it's one of the best moments I had in that place. I can't forgot this movie for a few days after even at class 😂😂 especially that scene when Rama stab the guy's thigh and drag it. I remember I had a crush on Iko Uwais (Rama) for a while back then. Thanks for reacting to this!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE The Raid, as well as the Raid 2, so glad you enjoyed it! The choreography in these movies is insane. Iko Uwais is incredible! Also, I love Nikkis Wandavision shirt ❤ can't wait for the Raid 2
i just love it when nikki feels the pain of others in movies :D
What I like about The Raid is that it shows how much Rama could lose with his pregnant wife back home without resorting to some contrived plot twist that the bad men gets his wife as leverage because his brother was already in the gang.
Brother protecc ( 0_0)/
This movie alone has more creative killings than the entire Mortal Kombat series.
Thanks for reacting to this movie guys, appreciated it!
