- It had been 27 years since WVU had won against Penn State, but in 1984 the Mountaineers held a 3-point lead with just over two minutes remaining. With Penn State driving, can the 'Eers hold on?

Yes the game was over folks. 18 straight and finally won. Fans deserved to rush the field. Great time in Mountaineer football. Thank you coach Nehlen!
My Freshman year of College at Morgantown and simply the wildest night of my entire collegiate career! My father was a Freshman in 58 when they tied!
Sunnyside was on Fire, Cops & FD opened up the hydrants like a flood going down Sunnyside. Craziest thing was we had ONE EXTRA HOUR to party as Daylight Savings time ended that night back then! I walked back to the dorms right when the cops cleared the streets at 4am (which was 5am if u still counted DST)!! THAT was the penultimum of all celebrations in Morgantown.
Only ones close to that was the Final Four in 2010 (so I heard), the WVU-PITT game in 75, and the ROAD WIN at Oklahoma in 82 when NO ONE THOUGHT WVU Had a chance and weren't prepared of the mob scene from a road win. My older Fraternity brothers told me stories of the 82 mob scene as I was still in HS then. AND YES, of course I was at the game in the Student Section Upper Level around the 30 yard line...same end as the last INT. WOW! AND YES...I remember the FINALLY on the scoreboard with 35 seconds still left!
Too bad they didn't show the big "FINALLY!" on the scoreboard at the end. I remember people claiming to have pieces of the sawed up goal post in the weeks after that one. What a great night!

Of all places, I was in HUNTINGTON at a party. WHEN Holley snagged that ball, 3 of us Eer fans amongst the Blundering Turd fans jumped up in celebration...and I cried. At 24 1/2 I saw WVU beat Paterno and those goons for the FIRST time in my life...
And the blundering turds are still 0-12!!!
Having left this comment, I realized that I was talking about the 88 game not this one. But either way, still good when we beat Penn State. ** was a repeat of this game, just beat them worse,lol.

I boosted my friend up on to the goal post that came down. My 15 min of fame. What a night! I hope there's a statute of limitations, I'd hate to have to pay for that goal post with interest since 1984!
It's funny seeing John Schaffer as the Penn State QB since just 2 years later he was part of Penn State's last National Championship.
I can remember Pitt also beating Penn State that year and Pitt had an awful team that year too. 31-11 I think it was.
