Time and time again I’m blown away by the colors (and shots in general) you’re delivering. I like the calm nature of your videos, yet you don’t stretch things out unnecessarily like so many other big photography UA-camrs do. It’s just the right pacing between shots and information. Watching your videos is pure joy!
While I do agree with your sentiments, he does manage to hit the video exactly at the UA-cam video algorithm video length sweet spot. But he spaced and paced it naturally so it doesn't seem that way.
Viltrox is bloody IT. This 40mm and now recent 28mm "Chip". I think that's it, all I need for my travels. Don't need no backpack or even a sling bag. Just put camera on leash and pocket one of the lenses. Amazing..
I paid only 121 EUR, free shipping incl. A german guy called Christian Phototrainer compared it to the Sony 40/2.5 G...it was like splitting hairs, the Viltrox even have had more sharpness, from the background distance, at same apertures...he peeped at 300%. Something, i never do. I watch compositions at best at 100%, usually much smaller, due to editing, to fit the whole picture on the screen.
Your videos are incredible. Each of them are a wonderful experience. Great job!! Your photography is really special. Thank you for creating and sharing these things!
I'm really interested by this lens. I rented the 40mm f2.5 G a few times and loved the focal length but didn't like the bokeh. This looks like a great alternative.
Info: The Viltrox 40/2.5 is more like a 37 or 38mm focal length into reality....the Sony 40/2.5 G shows a narrow frame, into 1:1 comparsions, you see hat the Viltrox delivers more of the frame.
Amazing job as always Adrien. Also I find myself amazed by all these new 3rd party lens from Viltrox, ttartisan, laowa 👍 Love the picture at 4:07, I can almost smell the mood :)
Interesting. I already own Sony’s G version so I won’t be buying this but I’ve bought two other Viltrox lenses for APS-C and I’m leaning a lot about what they offer. The image quality of their 27mm f/1.2 gives you a fantastic 40mm equivalent on APS-C but do wish it was lighter and smaller. Thank you for your presentation and take care.
Hi. Superb video as usual. I would love to hear from you more about why you shoot, what is the purpose of photography today and your overall photographic philosophy. I studied photography 15 years ago and was shooting for many years but in last years I've struggled to find motivation since there is such a oversaturation of visual content and photography seems to be loosing value. But now I bought old A7 and I am falling in love again with the process of hunting light and composing. Your videos also help a lot. Thx.
I knew right away you were in Miyajima, gorgeous place, you did it justice. Also, please write the product name in the description when you do reviews. There are too many Viltrox products, it's hard to search for accurately.
I often think, the 40 mm on my GRIIIX are too tight for everyday carry / as a dadcam. Would have loved a 30 mm, which would be also slightly smaller. But I guess this wish is too niche 😅 why 30? I already own the 35 1.4 GM so I need a slightly different focal length to justify 😂
Hey Adrien, thanks for making this video, I'm wondering how you think about this lens compared to the Sony 35 f1.8? 40mm vs 35mm and f2.5 vs f1.8, sounds pretty similar, if you could only choose one for street photography, which one would appeal more to you?
Love your videos! I'm planning to upgrade to an A7c from my gx80 when I can. I'd love to see you hold the lens a little bit in your hand or on the camera so I can get an idea for how it feels!
Thank you for the video. have you had a look at the 24-50g? I'd be curious about your thoughts. Additionally I use your "Day" LUT a lot in my photo editing (DxO) and I love the results, so thanks for that too.
How would this compare up to the Sigma 35mm f2 lens you reviewed…I know it’s a slight difference focal length but if you could only go with one which would it be?
thanks for the video, some amazing shots. I am just starting my journey into photography. I have a kit lens and was going to consider the nifty 50 maybe this could be a good alternative ?
Never tried it but I think 45mm would be much closer to 50mm. What I like with 40mm is that I compose and shoot almost the same way as I would with a 35mm
@@adriensanguinetti from what I've been seeing online, I find the rendering of the Sigma more beautiful than the Viltrox. But of course the focal lengths are not the same, and the Viltrox seems to be lighter. Something that puts me off about the Viltrox is that it doesn't seem to have an aperture ring.
Beautiful photos, great review, thank you! This is the first video of yours I've seen btw. I'm still undecided between 35mm and 40mm, I've been shooting with my zoom lens set to 35/40 to help decide. :P I was thinking 40mm might be too tight sometimes if I only bring one lens with me (for walks and travel), but your photos prove me wrong! May I ask what crop you used on some of the images, is it the golden ratio?
I wish they made the lens similar to the sony 40mm 2.5, with weather sealing and a metal finish. I won't mind paying more as it can be future proof and wouldn't cost too much more anyway.

"While I won't be zooming in on brick walls at 400%..." lool. Love it.
I've got this lens for 2 months. Really light-weight and good optical performance. Most importantly, good price!

It is and at this price you can't go wrong
Hold on man.. 2:42 !!! Great shot !!!

These lenses are like a gift to us. They are cheap but wonderful.
Nicely put
This lens looks like a beast! I had the Viltrox 13mm and loved it.
It really is a good lens for the price :)
I just ordered it yesterday. Wish I saw this video sooner. Awesome review
Amazing job as always Adrien. Also I find myself amazed by all these new 3rd party lens from Viltrox, ttartisan, laowa 👍

Thanks a ton! Third party makers are really stepping up their game. It's good for us consumers :)

Very good video, I really enjoy watching it!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent as always.
Thanks :)
Another great video Adrien. I learn so much about composition and framing from you, without it feeling intimidating.
Gorgeous pics and looks like a great addition to big and heavy gmaster lenses
Thanks for your comment :)
If you like that lens, you will probably also like the Leica Q3 43mm. I think that lens will be spectacular. But of course it will have its price..
How do you even get these colors from Sony??? I'm amazed, glad that this was recommended to me.
I love 35 mm focal length because of your channel
@adriensanguinetti can you include the video LUTS on the complete set?
Adrien, I love you!
Haha thank you
Awesome video man!
Does the Af Assist work when youre shooting video on your a7cii?
The 40mm and 20mm seem like such a powerful pair for their size and price

The non-X GR3 is great as well
Should I not buy an X?
I have a non X (28mm) and a 40mm 2.5G on an A7C.
The combo is wonderful for family duty
Maybe try a 28mm. They have one coming soon ;)
@@adriensanguinetti really wish you hadn't said that. Haha
Been seing this lens pop up in a few other places as well. Seems like people really like it overall. Thanks for the video, some lovely shots here.
thank your for your content!
I really enjoy every Video!
What a spectacular video! And beautiful Miyajima island! Was all the video shot handheld?
What is the name and details of this lens please? 😊
would you recommend this lens if i already own the Sony 35mm F2.8 Sonnar T FE ZA
Hey Adrien, thanks for making this video, I'm wondering how you think about this lens compared to the Sony 35 f1.8? 40mm vs 35mm and f2.5 vs f1.8, sounds pretty similar, if you could only choose one for street photography, which one would appeal more to you?

Hi. is the broll shots from the city and places shot with your a7c or osmo pocket?
Really nice video. Thinking about the Sony a7cii but not sure which lens. Would you go with the Sony 40 mm 2.8 G or 40 mm 2.5 G?
Thank you for the video. have you had a look at the 24-50g? I'd be curious about your thoughts. Additionally I use your "Day" LUT a lot in my photo editing (DxO) and I love the results, so thanks for that too.
Great video mate! You won’t go back from the 40mm focal length now 😃
How would this compare up to the Sigma 35mm f2 lens you reviewed…I know it’s a slight difference focal length but if you could only go with one which would it be?
Great Video!
@adriensanguinetti after owning the a7cii for a bit of time, how do you feel it compares to your experience with the A7iv? Which do you prefer?
thanks for the video, some amazing shots. I am just starting my journey into photography. I have a kit lens and was going to consider the nifty 50 maybe this could be a good alternative ?
Have you tried the Sigma 45mm 2.8? I am wondering how it does compare to this one.
Never tried it but I think 45mm would be much closer to 50mm. What I like with 40mm is that I compose and shoot almost the same way as I would with a 35mm

Samyang 45 1.8 has been around for a while.
I wish they made the lens similar to the sony 40mm 2.5, with weather sealing and a metal finish. I won't mind paying more as it can be future proof and wouldn't cost too much more anyway.
We don't know how much more it would cost. I like the positioning they have with the lens as it is now.
Its Itsukushima?
Yes ;)
40 2.5 but it,s not a pancake.china just so so .sony 40 2.5 is expansive but it have focus button and more small size
Small lens is trendy again. I think it's 7 artisans, releasing 28mm f4.5 autofocus soon
Excuse me, but do you have a moment to talk about our lord and saviour, the ttartisan 35mm 1.4 ?
