I don't think there will be a version with the L-mount, and the probability of an RF-mount version is even higher than that of an L-mount. This is because the L-mount is part of an alliance, and joining the L-mount alliance is a prerequisite if there are plans to release an L-mount version.
I think the 40mm focal length is good, but I also think that the 35mm focal length is excellent ! Last year I bought the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA used for US $215 (taxes included) in very good condition, the Zeiss Sonnar 35mm is both smaller and lighter than both those 40mm Lenses !
The Zeiss 35mm f2.8 was a good lens, I had it once, sold it to pick up the 35mm f1.8 Sony, but I regret not having it on my shelf. Small, light, maybe not superb image quality, but it was a fun almost-pancake lens. I love 35mm for portraits. 40mm is a nice focal length, about the same as what our eyes see or very close to it,
@@PhillipSkraba I like to have The Zeiss Sonnar 35mm, because there is always space for it, but when I need the best possible image quality, I use my Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical, which is compact and built like a tank and the image quality is second to none !!! I prefer focal length from 55mm and longer for portraits !
When it comes to small lenses I went and bought the 24, 40 and 50 G pancakes, they are so good, I highly recommend them! Amazon usually has them on sale.
Sony only has the edge on the charts, which is weird, and sure, a closer minimal focus, which is crazy for such a small lens at 25cm, but the Viltrox for $142 is just a steal, I absolutely love their lenses. All my talking head is shot on the Viltrox 24mm F1.8, and has been for years.

It’s got a warmer tone to it sometimes, but it’s not something that is hard for me to grade. All my talking heads are filmed with Viltrox for years, and this one I’ve used on a ton of shoots, I really like it.
@PhillipSkraba glad you make use of it. Other viltrox lenses I have enjoyed. This one, I went through 3 copies, hoping it was just an issue with one lens. I do stills mostly, and this just couldn't cut it. Would have been nice to save that money.
@dleise really? I’m loving it for stills. I don’t really see the warm tones, and I use a LOT of vintage lenses so I’m not too bothered if a lens has a little character, in fact I prefer it. If it’s client work, then I use a GM lens if it has to be super colour accurate and a test chart, but for a $142 40mm in my opinion it is absolutely superb.
Yeah, really, really. There's some issues that aren't just a warmth. The cast is brown. Not amber or yellow, but brown. I don't care about test charts. This lens has some bite to it with its sharpness. The color, though, is just not flattering or a character I appreciate. I've seen this lens on eBay for $88-105+15 shipping, new. It is a budget option. It'll probably suit many for practice and portability, but it just leaves a lot to be desired for color. It is just mission-critical for me to have as few destructive elements to fix in post. The recently released 75mm f2 from TT had a little less sharpness in some ways but much better color. I make a point about another budget option because it's not an issue of cost or brand. Some designs just don't suit the needs of some people. Whatever people do, they should make sure they try it first imo.
great video 👍👍
Great video. My local camera store has been trying to the sony 20mm 2.8 at me every time i go browse. HUUUGE price difference
The Viltrox 20mm is fantastic, I did a photo walk video with it, superb lens!
Any chance this and other (great!) Viltroxes will come out for L-mount?
Absolutely fantastic lenses, I’m afraid no L-mounts though. X, E, Z and M mounts.

Sony 24mm f2.8 review?
Great video.
Thank You, glad you liked it!

@@PhillipSkraba I do not like those, they do not have the high optical image quality I want.
They have insanely good image quality! Much higher than the 35mm Zeiss f2.8 I had.
Sony has slight edge, but not $350 worth of an edge. Viltrox is putting out some good stuff!

Viltrox seems to have a little more contrast.
Both fantastic lenses.
Viltrox has this awful brown color cast. I thought it was just yellow, but it's really rough to edit out.

Well, in my experience, it really doesn’t bother me at all, nor is it something I notice. I guess it depends on your use case scenario and style.
