Be sure to tell everyone how fun it is to do an oil change on the newer Tacoma's V/6 engine, I'm referring to the oil filter R&R procedure of the element style filter. It reminds me of something straight out of the 1950's...Even with the $50.00 plus in the factory specialty tools required, it is one terrible design by the folks that call themselves engineers!
Put these so-called engineers in the shop for a week & Y'all will see a design change, i.e. spin on filter in a heart beat!

As long as you don't have one with the soy based insulation on the wiring lol. Not sure if that lawsuit has settled yet. Real nice of them to use soy so rodents eat the wiring harnesses out of your car then Toyota tells you tough and you gotta pay thousands to replace everything. I know somebody that had bought 2 Toyotas new think it was like 8 years ago something like that and less then a year later cost him like $5k replacing the wiring in both of them.

Mike, put your "business" hat on and start thinking about what has happened. Would you trust a contractor who not only broke their word (more than once) but also does not let you when when they are not going to show up for work? I'll bet you would find a different contractor. Just my two cents and like you, I have been a Ford truck fan since I got our of the Army in 1969. They always perform as expected and look good. Thanks for sharing your frustration with us. Hope it all works out for you.

It's never a good idea to buy the first of a new model. It might look good on the driveway, but they just use you to iron out the problems. Always best to wait for 6 months and then check the owners reviews.

Mike, my dad bought a new ford station wagon every two or three years. The first one I remember was a 1957 red and white one. So when I grew up and started driving I continued the tradition and in 1976 bought a brand new F150. I have several since then but after buying a 2004 and then a 2008 F250’s with Diesel engines, and having all kinds of trouble I bought a new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. I absolutely love it, and the dealer support has been awesome too. Too bad about your Bronco, but imo I would run away and buy something different, I think with all the trouble they have had already it’s bound to have issues down the road. From sunny southern Minnesota, have a day!

been to that dealer. It was ok. thought the lot was a bit unorganized and tough to find the vehicle I already knew was in stock. I can tell you this... we went to to dealer near where the old pitt airport was and bought a Toyota Highlander from them. It has a good deal of bells and whistles including GPS, the leather AC and heated seats and the rear hatch door that will close at the push of a button. We live in your general area, well aware of the weather here and I can honestly say, my wife absolutely loves this thing in the winter. it is a tank in the snow. I am a ford fan as well but for a family car with enough width to be comfortable to sit in and drive and enough length to have a third row seat and enough weight to go anywhere in the snow.... happy with our toyota highlander. happy happy happy

I still use my 2012 Highlander daily and have only replaced tires, battery, and wipers as well. Some things to ponder on about all of these new vehicles, they have been sitting outside in the elements all summer with no protection of any kind. No wax on the paint , no Armor all on the interior or tires , and the wiring harnesses arecoated in something that attracts critters that like to chew on it . The vehicle is now a year old, ( the 22' s are out ) , and they are not giving any price incentives, in fact some dealers are jacking up the price because of the scarcity of new vehicles. You like your Wrangler, I'd look for a second one . One other thing they don't have enough parts to build them, how are they gonna do warranty repairs ?

Someone ordered it with everything I would have. It has the 400 V8, 205 transfer case and lots of room! This was in July of 79 and I knew I'd better grab it because this model was only being made in '78' & '79'. I also swapped in a Dana 60 rear and matching 8 lug front hubs , same setup as the F 250 of the same year, for a little more heft and bigger brakes, in 1990. It’s a tough call. On one hand, the runaround is ridiculous. On the other, you said the new Bronco is everything you want in a new vehicle. Which led me to this thought… my brother ordered the new Maverick (fully loaded) the moment you could. In fact, he was the first at the dealer to do so. They told him it would be three to four months. It came in right around three months. Not sure how they brought this new truck to market so quickly but they did. And he LOVES it! The fit and finish are outstanding. The ride is amazing and it is the quietest truck I have ever driven (he was crazy enough to let me drive it when it was 30 minutes old) - LOL! I guess my point is that if the Bronco is everything you want, hang in there and get it. Otherwise, you’ll be settling for something less. Just my two cents.

I'm not too sure another Subaru would be a good choice? I've been buying Subaru Legacies with the all-wheel drive since 2014. I traded every two years. 14 was a basic Legacy with Cruz. It stayed right on the miles per hour that you set it at. The 16 I upgraded to the blue interior lights, in your armrest and Shining down on the console. And the LED light package in the side veiw mirrors outside of the car to illuminate the dark areas in a parking lot. 2018 had more bells and whistles with the eyesight Cruise with all the fun things that came with it, and the crews varied 1 mile-per-hour either side of what you set it. Still had knobs and buttons on the dash but they added this electronic rear-view and side view mirrors which are a joke if you have anyone with those blue lights behind you, and they turn on the brights. You have a tough time dodging them quick enough also they made the mirror bigger so you have to look around it to see if anybody's coming. But I still should have kept the 2018. Because the 2020 they stuck all their money into that piece of crap computer with the viewscreen in the middle of the dash, with the driver monitoring system!!! When you go to adjust something on that screen it beeps at you and a screen in front of the steering wheel flashes, "get your eyes back on the road", what a bunch of engineering idiots !!! Also there's a bunch of other crap in there that you have to go through a checklist and shut off before you can proceed safely in the North country. Plus they downgraded the actual vehicle the trunk lid is flimsy and the hinges on it take up all kinds of room and your hood is not held up by gas cylinders anymore, you get the rod to mess with again. Plus you lost console room and a lot of the same with the glove box. But they did put in two USB plugs in a box in front of the shifter where you can shove your cell phone. I have went on enough there's more I could complain about, that's pretty darn close to. Oh yeah, the cruz varies two miles per hour either side going up and down Hills, just love that. Then every once in awhile when there's a vehicle way out in front of you and one goes by you on the other side on a two-lane it Slams on the brakes , and all the dealer said was, "oh that's just normal with the new system they installed! I call BS on that one!

With the huge increase in communication technology in our generation, it is amazing how Ford and others have chosen to do no communication. I had a electrical contractor tell me that he would provide me a cost estimate recently. I had stopped by his place when he didn't return my call and set-up a visit for him to look at the project. He came out but he never called me back with a cost estimate even to tell me he was too busy. I don't get that.

Like I said above I believe it's more the stigma of what looks like a recall if all the ones that were first to be built and sent to their owners and had to be called to bring them back to get the roofs replaced.
The word recall is a stain on the bronco and ford so they've tried to do it under the radar but it's taken to long for that to have worked for them consumers and there alot of them that have ordered a bronco like Mike are getting very aggravated with Ford. If it's not truly ready then Don't say it's done and Will be delivered an a certain date and then not say anything when that date comes and goes.
They should have just done a a legitimate recall and keep everyone informed through email so everyone would know but they've screwed it all up and heads should roll at Ford because of it.

I've been there and done that with a 1979 Bronco, but was less patient than you. I ordered a new Bronco in 1979, just like what I wanted. I was told a date, and waited until that date passed before calling the dealer, just to find out it hadn't been made yet, it was due to go on assembly line that week and would arrive in another 4 weeks or so. I waited until that date passed, then call dealer again. Still wasn't sure if anything. Mean while I found one in the next town, when and drove it , I bought it, drove it to my local dealer and parked right in front of their front door, with the name of the dealer I purchased it from, on a tag on the front bumper. I boldly walked in to ask for my deposit back. They said the owner was out and he had to sign the check, so I told this person I'd be setting right there when he got back. So, I sat down in the waiting room, and I bet it wasn't 2 minutes lapsed time, and this guy walks out and hand me my check, End of story. Good luck. Hope you find something you really like. I'm still a Ford guy, even though with a new dealer had problems last time I traded with Ford, but with one email answering there questionnaire, got results.

I've had a horrible issues with Ford. I inherited my Dads Ford Focus when he passed a year & half ago. Shortly after it started hesitating, bucking, shaking when starting out. Mind you my Dad barely drove this car(doctor appts, grocery store, etc.). Its a 2014, & has less then 20,000 miles on it. It was garage kept, clean ALL the time, oil changed faithfully every 3 months & kept in impeccable shape. Come to find out Ford got these transmissions from porche & was told they have issues. But Ford went ahead & put them in the Focus & Feista's without checking them out or fixing them & just hoped for the best.
I was driving down the parkway(Pittsburgh) & the car went to shift gears, except, its like it went into neutral because it didn't have any power any more. It started going slower & slower even though I was pushing on the gas. Thankfully I made it to the side of the road(with crazy drivers flying around me & honking their horn). I was able to go slow, meaning it would only go in first gear(its an automatic but has a dual clutch). I ended up having to drive on the parkway in first gear. I only had a few exits to go. I made it home & went to back into a parking spot but it wouldn't go backwards. I called the dealer & they said its out of warranty. Also talked to Ford corporate but they were no help. They did say the transmission control module(which is one the the things wrong) was able to be replaced under a "special warranty" & covered by them. But the dual clutch also needs replaced at $2,500) & was not & would not be covered. Even though its their fault for putting faulty transmissions in these cars. Then they've had my car over 4 months now waiting for the control module. Its been horrible dealing with Ford. I will never get a Ford again. I had one a long time ago & had nothing but problems. I'd fix one thing & right after something else would happen. I've never had problems with other cars I've owned. But always with Ford. So never again for me. Only reason I kept my Dads car, was because first it was my Dads. But it was also in really good shape & low miles. But now I'm having all kinds of problems & its still a practically brand new car still. So I shouldn't be having these problems.
I hope you receive your Bronco soon. I hope everything gets worked out.

    Hi Mike and Melissa,
I feel your issue with Ford, I ordered a Bronco the first night along with my daughter who also ordered one. Mine was a Wildtrak 4dr. with the hardtop. My daughter ordered a Big Ben 2dr. My dealer be came to us and discussed changing my order to a Badlands with all the same options including the Sasquatch package I wanted, but change the top to a soft top. He said the supply of hardtops were short and suggested we change mine to help get it built sooner. This was done in early June. My daughters Big Ben was to be built with hardtop in early July. This was very similar to your situation. She had the build date changed many times. As yours, hers ended up at Dirt Mountain as well. Still waiting to see anything on hers. Only info is that they think she will take delivery in early November. Here's hoping....
In the meanwhile my Badlands was build with the soft top on September 2nd and delivered here in Iowa on September 26th. All good and we love it. So we have seen the Good and the Bad with the communication from Ford. I completely agree with you on the horrible communication problems they have.
My good friend owns the dealership and we have purchase dozens of Ford or Lincoln vehicles for years. Obviously we are big Ford believers and have had wonderful luck with them. We currently own a 2020 F-350 and a 2018 Expedition. Just ordered a 2022 Navigator to replace the Expedition. We feel your frustration and hope all works out for you guys. You will love the Bronco when you get it. Good luck with your delivery. P.S. absolutely enjoy our youtube!

I lease a Ford 2019 plug in Hybrid. For over a year there has been a problem with the electrical charger. I finally was told that the dealer had a plan to deal with this. I had to leave the vehicle and pick up a loaner car. Because the vehicle repairmen at the dealership are at a minimum, I had to wait more than a month for the appointment to get this fix. Finally, the problem was solved - it was the charger. I think that because of the loss of repairman and the recall you mentioned, those cars on Dirt Hill are on the backburner. The recall probably has to be completed before they get to your car but they don't have enough people to work on the recall. Oh, by the way, the charger has started to act up again.

We have had nothing but GM vehicles since 1971 when we bought our first new vehicle. Olds Cutlass, a Buick Regal a couple Olds 88s, Pontiac Grand Am, then GMC since 1996. A GMC Sonoma, A GMC Jimmy, a GMC Sierra, a GMC Envoy, and a GMC Acadia. We have had very good luck with them all. All of these vehicles except the Acadia had over 200,000 miles before we replaced them. It was sold as it was no longer needed. The manager at the major tire store where I buy my tires bought it.
We only had 3 issues during the warranty which GM took care of without any issues. One power steering actuator started leaking on the Sierra. A pump housing in the transmission on the 1984 Olds 88 actually broke in half. GM replaced the transmission with a new one. There was a problem with the paint on the 1977 Buick. GM repainted the whole car. As this was a huge problem they were subbing a lot of them out. I had them use the body shop I used. No problem after it was repainted. All of these were bought through different dealers except the Envoy and the Sierra were bought from the same dealer.
Every thing else except one water pump was wear items like brake shoes, belts, and plugs. etc, etc. I was able to make all the non warranty repairs my self. I also change the fluids and filters at or near the intervals GM recommends and send oil samples to a lab. My Crew Cab Sierra has over 218,000 miles on it and still has the original plugs. With the 5.3 Lt V8 it gets 21 to 22 miles per gallon on the Highway 18 to 19 mixed.
I do not even look at any other brands of cars or trucks. But if I did, Ford would be my second choice. There is not a third.

The October delivery date is when the Bronco was slated to be shipped, however we are in the midst of a shipping shortage. It was one of thousands that was set to ship about the same time, it will take weeks to get them all shipped. It simply isn’t possible to sweep in with a convoy of trucks and deliver thousands of Broncos simultaneously.
There is currently a huge backlog of undelivered new vehicles nationwide, the chip delays alone caused lots of issues. We are looking at new 2021 still being delivered to dealers in 2022. This is also why you can’t order the Toyota

Mike, I bought a 1986 F150 brand new and have been loyal Ford customer ever since then UNTIL NOW. I have had six new ford vehicles in a row Bought them new and drove them to death, except one lemon that I traded at two years. Just this year I was in an accident that totaled my ford and because of the prices I had to go used. I bought a 2018 Toyota Rav4 and I am so happy with it. Takes a little getting use to it as everything is backwards to the ford like cruise control, wipers and lights and even the Bluetooth phone controls, but I will get use to it. The Toyota reputation for these is great. If I had more income I would have gone for the Tacoma pickup but it is just out of my reach. All pickups are out of my budget except the old wore out ones. Really do some hard looking at Toyota, I think you will be surprised at how much better their reputation is compared to recent Ford mistakes. I don't know what Ford it thinking but they have lost a customer for life in my case. Yet they do not seem concerned at all.

I am amazed to see a Toyota dealership that actually has cars on the lot to look at (though I couldn't tell how many of them were actually available?). Here, on the Big Island of Hawaii, the Hilo dealer had three pickups without stickers on the windows, and two cars with stickers on the windows, the last time I drove by. Those were the only new cars on the entire lot. And they are a high volume Toyota dealer. Toyotas are by far the most popular and numerous vehicles on the island. A 4Runner is a status vehicle, in these parts.
I have to say, I am with the bunch, here in the comments, who say you shouldn't buy the first model year of a vehicle, anyway. Maybe Ford did you a favor by failing to deliver, this time. You'll get to see how many problems the new Broncos have before you finally take delivery of one (which will hopefully have all the bugs worked out). And you can't beat the quality and dependability of a 4Runner, according to all my neighbors. Best of luck in your quest.

Working in the auto industry, times are hard. All manufacturers are having issues getting parts to build vehicles. The TRD 4-Runner is a great vehicle. This vehicle is on my radar for a next vehicle when the supply chain issues are resolved.

Mike, I had A TRD Prerunner. IT rode nice, but was cramped. And after a while I got the impression Toyota doesn't spend a lotta money on seat design. I went in for a replacement of the wiring harness for the door locks and mirrors and they wanted almost $2,00.00. I left, went across the street, and traded it for a 2011, v6 Ranger. I still have it, 60,000 miles at the moment, and it's paid for. The only strange thing is, after all the years in business ford has been, why can't they make a 6 cyl that gets more than 19 MPG ???...

The 4 Runners are terrific vehicles. They hold their value very well and are pretty much bulletproof. The 4 L 6 cylinder engine are a little slugish and for a large vehicle, the interior is pretty small.
They go just about anywhere offroad.
I am a little nervous now. I just ordered a F350. Hopefully they don't loose that.
    Good luck with the search!

I have owned many Toyotas and run all of them over 200,000 miles, trouble free. Had a rav4 that had 330,000 on it when I gave it to someone that needed a car. They will serve you well

Mike and Melissa seriously consider the TRD Pro 4Runner. My wife has one a 2020 and absolutely loves it. She had a Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk and traded for the 4Runner. I had a Jeep Wrangler JKU and traded for a Ford Raptor then to a F350. We both however have had Fords in the past F150, Mustang. Love my Fords as well. But the wife is absolutely in love with her Toyota. 4Runners also have one of the best resale values on the market even better than a Wrangler or F150. Something to consider.

I'm sure most Americans like to buy US products when they can. we Australians do too! But, since Toyota was introduced here and used for some of the toughest jobs available, it has been the "go to" brand for all the Mines, construction, farmers and others that use their vehicles hard. That has translated into legendary reliability and Toyota is by far the most preferred 4wd maker for the family and recreational market as well. Good luck with your choice. I have a Toyota Prado which is our version of what you were looking at. You cant go wrong!

We have had 2 siennas ( one still going with 165k ) an Avalon and a Tundra. 2014 Tundra has 125k and replaced wipers battery tires and brakes. Routine maintenance only. I am about to buy another v8 Tundra and pass the old one down to our 19 year old. Avalon is now the 16 year old’s car. No regrets.

I can say this about the 4 Runners....... I've had four of them and my current on is a 2001 with 365000 miles on it.
Soooo if the new ones are half as good, you'll get your monies worth out of it. Maintenance cost is very and I mean
very low cost..... Just keep the oil and filters changed and you'll have a vehicle for life..........
When I sold my 96 model 4 runner, it had 547,000 miles on it and as far as I know the lady is driving it today....
You can't beat the v6 engine in them....
My weekend vehicle is a Lexus GX470..
    Cheers.....

I have owned a 1981 F-150 4X4, a 1989 Thunderbird SuperCoupe, a 1997 F-250 (light duty version), and currently have a 2015 F-250 SuperDuty. All my Ford vehicles have performed superbly, so I consider myself a "Ford" man, too. But I agree the Bronco rollout has been a fiasco, coupled with the chip shortage and supply chain issues and quality control deficiencies. When you do get your Bronco, you certainly wouldn't have any trouble getting rid of it if it falls short of meeting your needs, and probably would make a handsome profit in the process. I just had my SuperDuty serviced and if I wanted to order a Bronco I could expect to wait 2 years! Best of luck!

I know you commented on the size and you like the extra room. I just started looking at the new Subaru Outback Wilderness. Check it out. It may not be for you, but I think it looks very appealing.
