Ice cream in commercials and ads are made from mash potatoes, so making the girls hold actual ice cream was a conscious decision in order to cause the girls pain and potentially need medical attention. They did this to Cassandra on purpose.
Yep! And it’s a nightmare on any set or photo shoot to use anything that melts. It’s a nightmare for everyone if they do. It’s definitely worse for the models here though because they actually have to hold it but no one would choose to use real ice cream so there’s no other explanation other than to cause them pain smh
I would love a compilation of clips of Tyra contradicting herself. "Close the tooth gap" vs "make a gap" "Show your culture" vs "be a blank slate" "Speak up" vs "power through"
I love how she created an environment and culture where models are expected to and praised for "powering through" and not complaining, and then when a model genuine got hurt because of that she says it's on them for "not speaking up".
Tyra was talking about her knowlegde in the modellimg field, Tyra's been in the modelling industry since she was a teenager so she knows exactly what she is saying and doing, those girls should be grateful a supermodel was helping them to be the better model they can be period
The fact that they actually made Cassandra HOLD that freezing ice cream for just a photo AND blamed HER for not being vocal about it makes me sick. Had she complained I am SURE they would’ve called her out for ‘making up excuses’
There is NOTHING that "the girls" can do to please Tyra and her team. They use everything they say AGAINST them. 🥺 It's an AWFUL position they put the contestant in every single day. We see that now..
I honestly think Tyra the Tyrant loves the power and control she has over these women. It's like she gets some sick pleasure from torturing them with awful makeovers, ridiculous photoshoots and unreasonable expectations. The way she contradicts herself (speak up/don't question the "professionals") and dismisses any thought or feeling they have regarding their own bodies is disgusting.
It reminds me of CariDee getting hypothermia in the pool shoot, and the judges told her that she needed to verbalize her limits, but as we know, if she did, she would've been criticized for not pushing through the photoshoot
Tyra reminds me of every sorority girl I met who still believed in hazing. "We went through it, it makes you stronger, it teaches you respect" How does consuming spaghetti and vodka to the point you get sick teaching me respect? She clearly took out all her trauma from the modelling industry on these young models 😢
And to deter them from being real models by not giving them read books with pictures they can use and traumatizing them with dangerous situations sexual harassment and impossible beauty and personality demands she didn't want others to be the next Tyra
Right? You'd think it would be like "I went through it so you don't have to, I know how bad it can get and I'm trying to change that about this industry," but instead she used the entirety of ANTM to preach that "that's just the way it is" and that there's no reason to try and change it. It's sad.
It actually makes me sad that I couldn't recognize just how terrible Tyra was at the time I was watching this. In hindsight, as an adult with much better self-esteem, it's blatantly obvious what an abusive person she was, and none of those models deserved that.
I think this is a REALLY good thing though, I know people who still don't see an issue w how Tyra acts. They typically are the Tyra of their lives or puts up with one and tries to justify how they treat others. Tyra always rubbed me the wrong way.
this treatment toward women was normal over a decade ago, if anything it was probably not even nearly as bad as how girls were being treated in real life. Even seven years ago when I was in high school, it was just disgusting what we had to deal with every day. I feel like most people forget that.
'This is the one time it's okay not to be a model and to be a person'. How are they supposed to know though, Tyra? You change the way you feel about the professional vs personal balance on whatever suits you at the time.
Exactly. Ugh, Im a PsyD and the hospital culture is exactly like this. Where they scream at you for not doing something, then next time they scream at you for doing what they asked for. Rules changing all the time. I still have ptsd from the experience
@@Keish03 I interned at a doctor's office that focused on veins. The doc was a heart doc but retired to be a veins specialist. One day, he told me to get materials for a procedure I've never seen before, and one that they rarely do in the office. I got the materials he asked for and laid them out on the table, he came in, asking me where this special needle was, and I started panicking because I thought I got everything already and he started going off about me not being prepared properly, I went out and looking all around for it, only to come back empty handed, then to find it in the doctors hand, and him looking at me like I'm an idiot. I found out after there was a different name for that needle, so that's why I didn't recognize it, but it was right in front of him on the table I'd set up. Later, I did hear him calling me an idiot to one of the staff. I felt so uncomfortable after that, so much so that I stopped talking to the staff and just did the job and interacted with the patients, but I lost something that day. I know hospitals/offices can't spoon feed workers, but I was an unpaid intern, broke as hell, trying my hardest and I was unpaid, at least if you're gonna be a jerk, pay me.
That's so disgusting by that doctor to speak like that to you, 100% abusive and unacceptsble, just because he's a doctor he's not more worthy than you.
@@12Kyra121 Wow what an idiotic doctor. It could have been a teaching moment for you. You were an intern trying to learn, which is the whole point of being an intern. He could have shown you what needle he was talking about and said "this is what we call it" or whatever. But to call you an idiot behind your back like that when you actually had everything prepared that he needed for the procedure? Ugh that sucks, and I understand totally how that could ruin your experience interacting with the staff at that office.
Tyra saying “It’s ok to not be a model” to Jael when she’s grieving the loss of her friend. Then there’s a murder themed photoshoot the following week. Tyra and the producers are HORRIBLE!
Yeah, it feels like there's no way it wasn't on purpose because they did the same thing to another girl who lost a friend, Kaylenn had to pose inside a damn coffin. At least could have given these very likely triggering scenes to another girl.
They mentally and physically shame, harrass and torment the contestants, who some of them have come from professional modelling backgrounds. Which they NEVER acknowledge. Then they gaslight the women to make them feel extremely anxious, sensitive and to their breaking point. It's despicable and cruel.
Winter is dangerous, people can loose fingers, toes....because of low temperature. They are very unprofessional. They should be legally investigated. If I wear a company, I would never hire these people.
@@enibeni2071 there's a lot that Tyra should be investigated for, the jays are distancing themselves now because they know it but they're just as culpable.
@Eni Beni I actually got frostbite Florida, where I live, Jan 2022 at Disney. I thought I dressed warm but apparently not enough. It had started raining and we stayed til close, as we knew it'd be the last time we could go financially as both our todders were free so we only had to buy 3 tickets, foe y husbans and I and our oldest abd we brought a couple family members so the adults/ our oldest could take turns riding some rides together. But staying til close was a major regret. The monorail broke down and the entire park had to be taken via the boats in groups and then stand in line for ages while the busses came in one by one to get people to their cars and I remember feeling so sick and I got home finally and took off my shoes and socks and both feet were red/purple but one was almost black and my nailbeds were grey. I remember my husband holding me and I was so sick I felt like I was dying. It was the first time I'd ever experienced anything like that and didn't even know it was possible in Florida haha. But our humidity is crazy and I had recently lost over half my body weight pretty quickly via WLS (from 300 to 120 in about 3 years, keeping in mind I had two babies as well in that time lol). And I lost the weight for health reasons and to help slow my joint/lower back degeneration so I could be the best mom possible and unfortunately one of the side effects of rapid weight loss (or any major loss, so I hear) is that your body cannot self-regulate it's temperature as well. But it was an a seriously painful experience and I have photos of my foot cuz I have never or felt anything like it. Like your skin and ligaments are on fire for days. So I feel for her! I never wanna go through that again!!!
❗️ *Consent is clear, ongoing, coherent, and voluntary.* Coercion is not consent. Contractual “consent” is not consent.❗️Any woman in this episode who voiced discomfort with being nude revoked their consent, pressuring them to continue anyway is sexual exploitation. And Dionne, totally out of line and unacceptable to shame other women for having boundaries, especially surrounding nudity. I hope she’s grown since then. As for ANTM, they need to be sued, like yesterday.
I watched an interview with one of the girls from cycle 8 (Britney I believe) and she said it was Jael that made the shoot stop and made the producers take Cassandra's hand seriously. Angel in life and passing. Rest in perfect peace Jael 🧡
@@AnxiousAlien... Jeesh..that is awful. Was it very 'soon' after this show or did she have time to..so to say, heal from this experience and have good times?
I love how they wasted all that time painting Britt completely yellow, knowing that she would have to stand there naked for longer when she was clearly uncomfortable, only for them to change the yellow back to her natural skin tone in photoshop. Just another instance of them wasting time and money just to hurt the models.
First thing that stood out too. They painted her that god awful bright yellow color just to then edit it completely out and then gave her a painful hairstyle only to then have her wear a wig over it
I hate when they tell models “if you don’t wanna be naked then you shouldn’t be a model.” And it’s like SOOO many models never pose in the nude. What a ridiculous way to try to manipulate young women and pressure them into being naked. Especially, knowing how dangerous the industry can be. 🤦🏽♀️
Agreed. There are plenty of models who don’t do it and a part of being a model is taking the jobs you want. They don’t take every job that comes to them and Mr. Jay especially told them the opposite.
As an introvert (like pure introvert without a drop of extroversion), I have heard that question "why are you such an introvert" so many times it drives me insane. So I love Diana's response. Introversion is treated like a "problem", or an "issue". "Diana's introverted in the house, that means something absolutely must be wrong with her and therefore she has to explain herself." People have different personalities and interact differently with other people, that's it, and Diana doesn't need to explain her personality at all to anyone, least of all Tyra.
I was always an extrovert(but as I get older and more tired I become more introverted) and I had always seemed to find myself around introverts of different amounts. And It kind of baffled me but one of my introverted friends said maybe it's because I don't try to change them and accept them as they are.
Cassandra got invalidated since CASTING! She told and shown Tyra that she had a wig sewn on her head.....fast forward 16 years later, not only its been the norm, but even Tyra has done it!
@@imjoesan oh of course, thats the whole scheme of "the storyline", it was just the way they went about Cassandra's "storyline" at least they didnt throw her age in her face like they did some other women
I'm surprised they didn't get in trouble for this one. Must be one hell of a contract. Bc even professional food photographers don't use real ice cream. It's so easy to fake both cold and melted ice cream, it's just super unnecessary.
@@devontamosley4487 they signed up for this. They knew this is a reality show and they have seen it in the previous cycles how it goes. Heck if I’m spending money on a reality show, I’ll do the same challenges. Geez, it’s not rocket science🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼
@@devontamosley4487 and I don’t see anything wrong with this. If I am creating a reality show, I’ll be making my challenges. You don’t like them, then you are free to leave don’t join😌😌😌
Photographer here. We would never have used real ice cream for this type of shoot. There are food styling subs that you can use, like shortening or instant mashed potatoes styled to look like ice cream. It's way easier to work with for everyone involved. Any time you see images with ice cream and the ice cream is not the product you would use a substitute.
right? there are slime-like imitations you can buy for like €5 with the exact same consistency, and you can always dye whipped cream for melted bits. these products would be designed for use on stage or screen. no excuse for that girl's injury.
My mom got frostbite in her early 20’s and she developed Raynaud’s syndrome. Now she’s extremely sensitive to cold to the point when she gets hurt she can’t even put an ice pack on it because it’s just physically too painful. Sometimes frostbite doesn’t just heal and go away. It’s dangerous and not something to play around with.
Her having frostbite and getting Raynaud's syndrome are two different things. She would have gotten Raynaud's without the frostbite, they have nothing to do with each other. FYI I'm a medical vascular technologist.
Hi, your mother having frost bite in her 20s has absolutely nothing to do with Raynard’s syndrome. Raynard’s is part of an autoimmune disorder and may exist alone or part of a larger autoimmune disease. Yes I am a physician. Your mother would know by now what she or if she has other symptoms. No need to panic.
Among the many things that drive me crazy about this show was that Tyra talks about how she had it in her contract that she wouldn’t do nudity and how her mom was her advocate. But then put these girls through 💩 like this and tells them to buck it up and push through.
In front of a whole filming crew and whoever else was there. If they wanted to be nude in front of everyone they would have posed for playboy or something similar.
The way they could've just used mashed potatoes with 2-3 drops of food colouring 😒 the pictures would be the exact same!! Lol pre teen me really thought this show was top tier high fashion lmaooo
@Countries To Go Oh it was an art form way before photography. Wax models to show what dishes you could order at restaurants would look like go waaaay back.
The voice over of Tyra pushing blame onto the model... So infuriating. They push models to do so many things they don't want to do with the threat to lose. Instead of providing a safe environment, or providing alternatives to nudity or gloves for their hand... They just expect them to do it without question
Also, the fact that she felt like she had to be silent is ANTM's fault. They don't feel comfortable expressing their needs because they know if they complain about anything they're seen as difficult and get kicked out. And they want it so badly that they're risking the pain for it. And I bet they didn't show it in the regular episode because she got kicked out. They only show negative things about the people that get kicked out. If they showed the frostbite bit, they'd know that she wasn't doing great for a reason.
It’s crazy that it was such a huge theme throughout all the seasons that if you didn’t take your clothes off you were going to be eliminated. Pressuring so many girls. Mocking them because they would wear a bathing suit but not underwear. INSANE.
A lot of these girls are in their 20s fresh out of high-school or college, so of course they are afraid to speak up against professionals in the field they want a career in. Not to mention, there's an unspoken expectation that the professionals involved with the process know how to keep the models safe. Why would they suspect that the people would give them ice cream that was so cold they could get frostbite. It's so sad how these girls got taken advantage of.
Exactly, they didn't want to be labeled as difficult to deal with/ a diva. They are on tv and just wanted to break into the industry. The show tortured them and tried to get a rise out of them so they would react because that's "what makes good tv" in their eyes. They were taking advantage of these girls.
A lot of these shoots do. People watching the show would have thought this was normal. I'm quite sure many would-be models got assaulted as a result, even more than would have been assaulted without the show. Predators must have had a field day. Creepy people with cameras are not exactly uncommon, but this show would have given them all sorts of helpful hints for victimising people.
@@stampandscrap7494 I modeled when I was younger and thankfully knew when someone was a weirdo but it’s a berry fine line. Some of the legit ones are ALSO weird af
It's funny how Tara said that she 'wouldn't say "well done"' in a calm voice with no expression or 'boo boo bee bee' noises, when that is exactly what she had been doing for the last hour.
I have seen plenty of times where "ice cream" is made out of mashed potatoes and food coloring so they can continue with a shoot without it melting and they can use it multiple times. They clearly did this JUST to make the models uncomfortable and resulted in injury to a model. You could get sued over something like this.
Don't complain. No wait, say something! NO WAIT. You're in the bottom two for saying something. NO WAIT, SPEAK UP next time. 🙄🙄 Gaslighting to the extreme. Caridee was the worst case.
At this point, ANTM HAS to be liable. We are literally witnessing crimes taking place, it's incredible how unaware we were back then. And the sexism, the misogynistic treatment to the models, oh gosh. No care for women's pain, consent, or well being. You are just an object, your job is to stand there and look pretty under whatever circumstances we are gonna put you through, and you must shut up and take it.
I think the show was partially successful because so many of us who had just been through the 90s as teens had some major rage over how thin we were expected to be and how most of us didn’t meet the expectations. So we took it out on girls like this. I could barely see their humanity back then because of how much I’d been hurt. I feel terrible now. I’m so much older they’re almost kids to me now. I just want to scoop them all up and tell them they’re worth more than this and that they should have told Tyra where to stick it.
In hindsight, Diana was iconic. Unbothered queen. "Why do you think you're introverted?" Oh, I dunno. "Why do you wanna be ANTM?" Just 'cause. 30something me loves her.
What’s crazy to me is that for some reason in the beauty industry specifically, there is a culture of “Beauty is pain” that is so widely accepted! It’s to the point where when one of the girls expresses that she is not comfortable being photographed naked, and she is not comfortable holding the freezing ice cream in her hand, the other models shoot her down and say that she’s just complaining and being a baby. Also one of the models was praised for “working through the pain” when there should have been no pain to begin!
Jael was one of my favorites from this season. Her substance struggles after the show, recovery, and later health diagnosis, my heart just breaks for her. I hope she now has peace.
Any time ANTM is like "SURPRISE, NUDE!". They're looking for that one person who displays discomfort. But think about how many other contestants are able to hide their discomfort, and go through with it because of the pressure. And those models are portrayed as "reasonable and professional" but they are really just more victims.
You know, one of the worst things about this is that they'll use this example in future episodes to silence other models who want to speak out about something that they're feeling. They'll be all "yes yes, but in Season 9, x actually got frostbite on her hands and she still knocked it out of the park. She didn't complain, she acted like a REAL model" and gaslight those poor girls into thinking this is how it's supposed to be. Just so horrible.
I genuinely don’t know how they can legally get away with this. From my understanding you can’t sign away the right to be compensated for extreme negligent bodily harm
I understand how painful that was cause I once ate chips outside in -30°C without gloves when I was a kid. An I still have some problems with my joints and fingers. Can't believe the show was so irresponsible. It's really dangerous, hopefully she didn't get the same problems as me. Sometimes I feel like they had contract with ER because of all those incidents
They also brushed off Brittany in this episode “complaining” about how much the hair weave hurt…just to find out a few episodes in that it was sewn in too tightly, causing sores and basically about to rip her scalp off (not to mention all the damage to her natural hair). 🙄😒🙄 And they ended up having to take the weave out bc of all that. I can’t remember 100% bc it’s been so long since I’ve seen it, but I think they may have tried to shame her also for “not speaking up”, even though when she kinda tried to say something at this panel she was shut down.
I went & looked up Dianna’s photo. It seems like the panel is secretly annoyed she didn’t break her back over the prop to make herself look rail thin. There’s a lot of airbrushing done to it but she looked great.
"Brittany get over it..." I am sorry, but this is sexual harassment at best. It doesn't matter if she is a model, a housewife, a secretary, or CEO. She has a right to her body and to decide who gets to see how much of it and who doesn't. Blackmailing her to be nude is criminal. If this was a "normal" photographer/photo shoot doing this instead of ANTM she would have a fantastic lawsuit against them. I have to wonder what would have happened if the other girls stuck-up for her and not let her and her boundaries be exploited for the sake of Tyra's show. If Tyra ever claims to be a feminist, I hope someone plays this clip...
Okay when you have frostbite, do not run your hands under hot water, start as cold as the water goes and warm them up slowly. Warning them up too quickly can cause more issues.
I remember watching this as a adolescent teen and wanting to be on this show. Now with an adults perspective. This show should have never been made. Or it did to destroy the modeling the industry. Glad now we have channels like you!
I was watching a documentary about Tyra Banks last year. Seeing how she was treating the models was not cool. They even got some the models sharing their experience in the show. I was shocked I knew modeling isn’t easy but geez, some of damage those girls.
"I love ice cream, but not like this." OMG IM DYIONG AT THE PREDICTION. She gives girls strength so she gotta go. Im crying that that ended up being accurate, Jessica, you b hardcore. Love that you don't pull punches with exposing their GAMES.
I haven’t seen this series since it first aired, or maybe a few reruns but not for the past fourteen years. Your perspective brings out the cringe factor we didn’t see so long ago. And yah, it sucks so bad that ANTM would give a girl frostbite and send her home. I still love the girl who won and her gung ho attitude. But that doesn’t mean that people who don’t feel comfortable in a situation like this should be invalidated.
I really love these videos; your compassion mixed with knowledge about photography ❤ This has probably been suggested already but the modelling competition format is still going on in other countries, over here in Germany a new season of “GNTM” is currently running, and I would love to see your reaction to modelling shows from other countries (not necessarily Germany haha) 😊
Not even hand warmers under the ice cream. "But we cant have it melt." 🙄 I bet they make the girls sign off waivers releasing the show of any responsibility because that was so irresponsible of them. Like you all don't know holding COLD ICE CREAM for even like 15-20 minutes will do something to your hand?!
They should have been given hand warmers the second they finished. You get a burn at McDonald's, they don't care what you doing you immediately stick your hand under cold tap and wait for first aider. Someone will deal with customers. Even when the burn fades in a day they've checked it. These girls deserve that level of care.
@@lizanna6390 in her case, due to her already being numbed and freezer burned, they would've served no purpose, they shouldve just used mashed potatoes or simply put it in a clear bowl! That couldve sensibly added to the challenge: posing, balance and selling the product
It’s so funny you mentioned the three olives regarding Subway .I use to work there in my teens and literally got wrote up over give more olives (portion control) 😭😂
Tyra is such a liberty taker. Making the model hold too much ice cream 🍦 for a competition photo contest. She ended up with frost bites then got sent home. I cannot stand these unnecessary extremities on ANTM
I've always said this, and this is not me being prudish. But if the girls have to do this, they really can't find any female photographers to work with so the girls have some familiar and relatable environment? Yes, it's a professional set, but still...But anything for a reaction for reality TV. No mental preparation the night before, just do it.
I think scenario made to intentionally harm the models to show the viewer that modeling is a hard job… because think of how often it happens, what they don’t know it’s dangerous to hold ice non stop for about 15 min-20 min ? And somehow they managed to make nudes ugly. Incredible lol . ( editing worked overtime to make something of it ) I feel like this time they just couldn’t say “ oopsie doopsie it’s all on you” so they had to cut out . But it’s very often where you like “ they didn’t know it’s dangerous?”.
Idk why they were always doing these things to their hair that wasn't suited for their hair type! I know some white women wear extensions but I've never known a white woman to have a full weave, as far as I know it's not ideal for that hair type? How do the braids even stay? And white hair needs more frequent washing because it's straighter and natural oil coats it faster - how was she supposed to keep the weave neat?
The nude photo shoots throughout all of the cycles of ANTM was purposely done to make the contestants further uncomfortable. I agree that nude shoots are & should be consensual besides forced. Jael's situation regarding the passing of her friend shouldn't have been exploited on the show, but I also wonder if she did receive the help she needed to heal from that situation. Third as far as the plus size contestants on this cycle, but also on select cycles, were casted on the show to stand out & feel self-conscious among the slimmer contestants. Having the plus sized contestants was a step in the right direction of body acceptance, but it was quite shady to make them feel less than.
YEEEEYYYY I have been waiting for this one LOL Jael's has always been my favorite RIP 🙏🙏the ice-cream theme was pretty cool. Now with fully adult eyes maybe not the best being naked holding icecream. The concept was creative to me but maybe they could have changed some things to make them safe
Let’s be honest here, even if she did complain they would have just told her to fight through it and still blame her at the end. It would have been like that one girl that was complaining about the pool water being cold and then they blamed her for getting hyperthermia.
Canadian here! Her frostbite was minor luckily but that pain is no joke. If you've ever had a burn before that was bad enough to blister it's like that but the lingering pain is worse and it doesn't go away by holding something cold. I've had it a few times as a kid/teen. A friend got server frostbite on his ears back in like 2010 because he had giant stretchers and they had to cut the lobes off.
They used Jael friends passing to get an emotion out of her in the next photo shoot… the show doesn’t care of the model when it’s all about the ratings
The ice cream adds NOTHING to any of the photos. It just looks messy. It would maybe make sense for the banana split idea, but they don’t need it. The shoot could definitely have be done clothed or at least with a bathing suit or underwear. Imagine it some cool funky bright swimsuits/leotards! They are also so mean to the girls about their style when they turn up for the judging. Tyra sitting there with huge hair, a scarf, massive hoop earrings and a blinging top telling everyone they are accessorising too much . I don’t dislike her look, but it’s so hypocritical! If you want them to dress plain just tell them that!
Wait… is this the Mandela effect? Am I confused? Am I psychic? Didn’t you already react to this and recreate a similar concept?!? Why am I so convinced
I reacted to this before the recreation video and then used clips from it! I couldn’t get around to editing this one quick enough haha so I just uploaded the recreation first
The fact that they said we give you an your girlfriend’s family our condolences then proceeded to do a death photoshoot the next episode was like wtf 🤬
I especially like how she gets called out for not saying anything. If she would have said something Tyra would have told her that she just needs to suck it up. "This is the one time when it's ok to not be a model... it's okay to be a human being" - models can only be normal humans when somebody that they love dies? WTH Tyra?!?
What's weird is there is FAKE ICE CREAM. THIS WASN'T NECESSARY. AT ALL. Tyra talks about how she's going to have to apologize about the show for the rest of her life the more people discover it, I say "GOOD. YOU SHOULD BE SORRY. YOU ABUSED NAIVE GIRLS FOR OVER A DECADE WITH THE PROMISE OF A CAREER THAT COULD NEVER HAPPEN, OR HAPPENED DESPITE HOW STUPUD YOUR SHOW WAS."
I like how they're pretending that ice cream in a picture simply *has* to be real ice cream. Just everybody would be thrown off so much if they had replaced it with something humans can actually stand to hold in their hands for a while (and that also looks 100% like ice cream)
And if the girl who got frostbite had said I need to warm my hand I need to put this down they would have torn her a new one with ‘unprofessional, ur a model! How dare you inconvenience us!’ They were already doing it cuz she couldn’t hide the pain smh
ANTM contract requires a 10 year NDA about production, conveniently 10 years is also the time for statute of limitations on reporting workplace abuse. ANTM application process involves listing all your fears and dreams so they can literally abuse you as much as possible.
and given them some small white panties for a tiny bit of comfort , the props and their legs blocked every crotch anyway , which was obviously going to happen with how they pose
It's really interesting that even the girl that seemed to not mind it and even said she poses better nude the dude still shamed her for it!! it was damned if you do damned if you don't scenario Mission is also 100% why there's so much ED in our generation
Like damn. ANTM has perpetuated, inflicted, and promoted almost every abusive industry practice onto these models. Instead of teaching these women how to navigate these trappings in a healthier way. ANTM grooms these women to accept and be complicit in the abuse. Teenage me had no idea. 😔
I'm also from Michigan. My finance's cousin ended up losing a whole foot and most of his toes on the other because of frostbite. His other cousin also got frostbite recently but was really lucky that he didn't have to take anything off. It's really serious, and I'm surprised this was even allowed to be a thing.
I used to watch this show and I never considered it as abusive. In the last 10 yrs I have changed my mind and can’t believe this abuse was blindly accepted.
Ice cream in commercials and ads are made from mash potatoes, so making the girls hold actual ice cream was a conscious decision in order to cause the girls pain and potentially need medical attention. They did this to Cassandra on purpose.
i'm saying!!!!
They could've just done that from the beginning; but of course, drama and ratings. Savages.
Yep! And it’s a nightmare on any set or photo shoot to use anything that melts. It’s a nightmare for everyone if they do. It’s definitely worse for the models here though because they actually have to hold it but no one would choose to use real ice cream so there’s no other explanation other than to cause them pain smh
Wow. What a-holes 😠
Yeah I wondered why they would use real ice cream rather than something that wouldn't melt or burn the models. They just wanted to be mean.
I would love a compilation of clips of Tyra contradicting herself.
"Close the tooth gap" vs "make a gap"
"Show your culture" vs "be a blank slate"
"Speak up" vs "power through"
I love how she created an environment and culture where models are expected to and praised for "powering through" and not complaining, and then when a model genuine got hurt because of that she says it's on them for "not speaking up".
Okay, but the model did speak up, she said she could not feel her hand. They just ignored her 😢.
I would've sue. They endangered models several times even the time when a model litteraly was in hypothermia she could've died in a freezing pool.
Tyra was talking about her knowlegde in the modellimg field, Tyra's been in the modelling industry since she was a teenager so she knows exactly what she is saying and doing, those girls should be grateful a supermodel was helping them to be the better model they can be period
Add to that ‘modeling should be your focus’ vs. ‘you should have a back up plan’.
It's an AWFUL position they put the contestant in every single day.
Soooo much BS from this show, I hope reality shows can get more ethical bc this is just horrible.
Cassandra should have sued the fck out of that studio production & Trya!!!😡
Tyra reminds me of every sorority girl I met who still believed in hazing.
"We went through it, it makes you stronger, it teaches you respect"
How does consuming spaghetti and vodka to the point you get sick teaching me respect?
She clearly took out all her trauma from the modelling industry on these young models 😢
And to deter them from being real models by not giving them read books with pictures they can use and traumatizing them with dangerous situations sexual harassment and impossible beauty and personality demands she didn't want others to be the next Tyra
Tyra actually was a mean girl before becoming a model
Right? You'd think it would be like "I went through it so you don't have to, I know how bad it can get and I'm trying to change that about this industry," but instead she used the entirety of ANTM to preach that "that's just the way it is" and that there's no reason to try and change it. It's sad.
THIS!
seriously, hazing is THE BEST definition of this show!
Okay, but the model did speak up, she said she could not feel her hand....they just ignored her. 😢
I didn't even feel Tyra was genuine when she said that. She always has such a cold exterior. 😒 She looked cold and phony.
Oh my god
Yeah, it feels like there's no way it wasn't on purpose because they did the same thing to another girl who lost a friend, Kaylenn had to pose inside a damn coffin. At least could have given these very likely triggering scenes to another girl.
They mentally and physically shame, harrass and torment the contestants, who some of them have come from professional modelling backgrounds.
Which they NEVER acknowledge.
Then they gaslight the women to make them feel extremely anxious, sensitive and to their breaking point.
It's despicable and cruel.

I love the fact that Jael got everyone together to protest the set to treat them better with the ice cream after Cassandra's frost bite.

They painted her that god awful bright yellow color just to then edit it completely out and then gave her a painful hairstyle only to then have her wear a wig over it
Wtf? I never even noticed that! So shady
Right? Unless you want every modeling job possible, don't be a model.
Uh, what?
As an introvert (like pure introvert without a drop of extroversion), I have heard that question "why are you such an introvert" so many times it drives me insane. So I love Diana's response. Introversion is treated like a "problem", or an "issue". "Diana's introverted in the house, that means something absolutely must be wrong with her and therefore she has to explain herself." People have different personalities and interact differently with other people, that's it, and Diana doesn't need to explain her personality at all to anyone, least of all Tyra.
I feel you! Introversion is treated like something you "do" rather than a natural way of being.
@@t-shades7148 Yes, exactly!
I was always an extrovert(but as I get older and more tired I become more introverted) and I had always seemed to find myself around introverts of different amounts.
Lol pre teen me really thought this show was top tier high fashion lmaooo
if they wanted the melty look, they could've dripped paint onto their hands before they put the potatoes on too
That what they used in real commercial for ice cream
Faking food has literally been an artform since photography was invented. We know how to do this, why did they do this?
They used ice cream for the reality show drama.
Then blaming their "silence" for their injuries.
They had that poor girl painted like a Simpsons character and told her she was a banana split. Lord help
Paint me yellow and call me a banana split 😂😅😂
Tyra LOVES to target the introverts. She sees one, she's met her prey. Lol Now bring her down.
I love how Jay would whisper his critiques to everyone but the models and then wonder why they weren’t doing what he wanted 😂
That shoot reminds me of the trap a lot of young, young models fall into where there’s a “professional photographer” but they just want weird photos
Young girls would see coercion to get naked general abuse , as normal in modeling.
Making the girls very vulnerable

We admire Jessica’s dedication and consistency on this channel. God bless her.
Omg they bombarded her with criticism and she just gave them NOTHING. Amazing. I’ll bet she was seething inside.
NDA'S and waivers work wonders
I think the show was partially successful because so many of us who had just been through the 90s as teens had some major rage over how thin we were expected to be and how most of us didn’t meet the expectations. So we took it out on girls like this. I could barely see their humanity back then because of how much I’d been hurt. I feel terrible now. I’m so much older they’re almost kids to me now. I just want to scoop them all up and tell them they’re worth more than this and that they should have told Tyra where to stick it.
They really made that girl into a Simpson just to have her look normal in the final picture 😭 savage
In hindsight, Diana was iconic. Unbothered queen. "Why do you think you're introverted?" Oh, I dunno. "Why do you wanna be ANTM?" Just 'cause. 30something me loves her.
She is a queen with her chillness. 😂 They had nothing on her.

Instead of ice cream, they could have used shortening like food stylists do in photographing for food ads.
“They’re making a ice cream kingdom on her hand” made me laugh way harder than it should’ve 😂😂
And they ended up having to take the weave out bc of all that.

I really love these videos; your compassion mixed with knowledge about photography ❤

They didnt even have to WASTE the ice cream!

Tyra is such a liberty taker. Making the model hold too much ice cream 🍦 for a competition photo contest. She ended up with frost bites then got sent home. I cannot stand these unnecessary extremities on ANTM
Natasha was one of my favorites. She always seemed to have a good attitude and wasn’t afraid to stick to her boundaries.
I've always said this, and this is not me being prudish. But if the girls have to do this, they really can't find any female photographers to work with so the girls have some familiar and relatable environment? Yes, it's a professional set, but still...But anything for a reaction for reality TV. No mental preparation the night before, just do it.
I fully believeif she had tapped out, they would’ve labeled her as a quitter and talked about how all the other girls did it without complaint.
When jael turns around to the girls and they all say "it's okay" and support her ❤️
I think scenario made to intentionally harm the models to show the viewer that modeling is a hard job… because think of how often it happens, what they don’t know it’s dangerous to hold ice non stop for about 15 min-20 min ? And somehow they managed to make nudes ugly. Incredible lol . ( editing worked overtime to make something of it ) I feel like this time they just couldn’t say “ oopsie doopsie it’s all on you” so they had to cut out . But it’s very often where you like “ they didn’t know it’s dangerous?”.
I have a conspiracy theory: they didn't want people feeling bad for her and questioning if this show was unreasonably cruel so they couldn't keep her.
Oml, I can't get over how tone deaf the damn panel is 😂
"What's the matter 🤔 we said you look pretty!?"
@JessicaKobeissi can we talk about how bad Brittany's weave was? I remember her crying a lot and I swear it made her bleed.
Yeah it did make her bleed and they brushed her off for a while until they finally had to remove the weave and cut her hair short.
I always hated how critical and mean the judges wear about the girls clothes and personal style at judging

Let’s be honest here, even if she did complain they would have just told her to fight through it and still blame her at the end. It would have been like that one girl that was complaining about the pool water being cold and then they blamed her for getting hyperthermia.
"They gave her frostbite and sent her home." Sounds about right with this show.
Can you imagine if OSHA had been on any of these sets? So many fines!
Same! She did
I reacted to this before the recreation video and then used clips from it!
WTH Tyra?!?
Actual Ice-cream commercial doesn't even used real Ice-Creams cause they melt
Sweet Jael. Breaks my heart to see her. She was always my favorite. Her spirit was something else.
And if the girl who got frostbite had said I need to warm my hand I need to put this down they would have torn her a new one with ‘unprofessional, ur a model! How dare you inconvenience us!’ They were already doing it cuz she couldn’t hide the pain smh
So sorry for the unintentional hiatus but I love ANTM Discourse as always! Also, please Collab with Luxeria who’s done reactions to ANTM as well.
God they would be such a WEIRD mash up with those two but I am here for it 😂
@@taylorfloydmakeup They’d be delightful.
I would love that. Add Brad for makeover episode!
They have such different styles thou
I would want this so bad
I used to work with Diana a few years ago! I love her so much 🖤
the amount of times girls seem to go to the hospital on this show and tyra is just like "modeling is hard girl you have to be tough" like what
They basically damaged someone for life and thought it was okay…..hell is going to have a field day with these people
I don’t care how “good” some of these shots turn out, these are definite ‘don’t put on my portfolio’ pictures
ANTM contract requires a 10 year NDA about production, conveniently 10 years is also the time for statute of limitations on reporting workplace abuse.
ANTM application process involves listing all your fears and dreams so they can literally abuse you as much as possible.
They could’ve easily used dyed mashed potatoes wtf
and given them some small white panties for a tiny bit of comfort ,
the props and their legs blocked every crotch anyway , which was obviously going to happen with how they pose
It's really interesting that even the girl that seemed to not mind it and even said she poses better nude the dude still shamed her for it!! it was damned if you do damned if you don't scenario
Mission is also 100% why there's so much ED in our generation
Like damn. ANTM has perpetuated, inflicted, and promoted almost every abusive industry practice onto these models. Instead of teaching these women how to navigate these trappings in a healthier way. ANTM grooms these women to accept and be complicit in the abuse. Teenage me had no idea. 😔
22:43 sometime you can really feel someone’s insecurity and discomfort with their body 🤷🏽♀️
It’s true at subway we’re taught to give specific amounts of all the toppings! I was a “sandwich artist” for a few years. 😂
I love how when the pixie haired model breaks down crying she turns back and everyone is so supportive and comforts her and tell her it’s ok
I just stared at your beautiful hair the whole video!
P.S. that ice cream really did nothing for those photos 😭
We need a hair care routine!
