I just got my SmokeFire and your video was a great help. While I live in Texas now I recognized that accent because I was born and raised just north of you in Wildwood!
Nice burn in Tommy! Great tips! I clean my cookers after every cook. Just good practice. Chuck roast would be a great first cook! I know how much you love to smoke them. Ooooh yeah! Cheers brother!
Good Video! I like that you spray after burn in. I take it a step further, I'll spray the pit then keep it at 300 for another 30-60 min to let it "season" the pit then spray it again after shut down. Actually, I spray it down after each use LOL. I understand the drain system on this pit. Those holes are small!! I can see how they'd clog. I wonder if there would be any benefit to drilling the holes out to a 1/2 inch? That may help clogging. Thanks!
This was a great tutorial video Tommy - Thanks! - I'm feeling more confident. I'm not sure how much I want to have to clean out the "pellet dust" with each cook, though. I have zero experience with smokers or pellet grills - Can you see any way to minimize the dust from building up in the first place? Or... Making it easier to clean? - Like lining it with alum. foil brfore a cook and just wrapping that up and tossing?
Hi Garry. Defiently not. Id say this pit is not the pit for you. Check out Pit Boss for something more user-friendly. Ill be doing a showdown between the two soon so stay tuned!
Well I messed up the procedure. Just got a new EX4 and instead of doing the burn off then the oil application I applied the oil and did the burn off at the same time. Whats your opinion on this? I have not cooked on it yet.
I would have thought spraying down with oil when hot would be better, like a cast iron pan, crystalize the oil to make a non-stick surface. That ash dust seems to be everywhere, is it on the food?
Hi Randy. The pit was spayed down while still warm then sprayed again on the next cook. As far as that pellet dust. It does seem everywhere but have yet to notice it on the food.
I am pretty new to all this, as I have not done this before, but I just want make sure I understand. You did a burn off....then you sprayed it down for a burn in...but didn't run it as you were going to do the first cook as a burn in?
Thanks for the video! If i can ask some questions, How many cooks have you done on this surefire? Have you done a long cook (> 10 hours) that rendered a lot of grease down to the floor of the grill (i.e. pork butt)? if so, did you experience a fire? I have the V2 stealth which just arrived yesterday. I think it's a good idea to season any grill and keep them clean between cooks. Thank you in advance.
I experienced a burnt floorboard in my shack as i showed in this or another video. All that said. Some feel this is a great cooker so fire it up and Enjoy!! Also. I love that stealth modal!! Cheers.

Haha. John. I got Biscuits, Chuck Roast, 3Lb Tomahawk Steak, and Ribs... Stay tuned!
It's advisable not to remove all the screws at the same time when removing the finger guard as they also hold the auger assembly in place.
Thanks-

You'll be fine. Enjoy!
