When you think about it, if pokemon was a rated M series and based on some of the dark pokedex entries, this could have easily been Pokemon Legends Arceus, like imagine being swarms by Paras and they are basically eating you alive
Me playing this game: "NOOOO THIS IS SO VIOLENT! POOR CHILD EATEN ALIVE!!" Also me playing mortal kombat: "haha sub zero pull out his spinal cord off, awesome!"
*Laughts in Predator taking your spine and maybe even your head* Also... could care less(its anime FFS! Not reality! Be HAPPY its Anime! Enjoy or hate it for what it does and represents and LEARN from it!). In that world children are the best fit for that job PLUS those who survive long enogh are basicaly what keeps society from colapsing there. Hell even the EDF would have a hard time beating whatever this "anomaly" is and wants. Thou in Stellaris you can get some payback. There is a special "superplanetmodifier" mod that has the "abyss" on it wich is this here abyss from the anime. Well you can imagine that i destroyed that planet more than once.
I really appreciate that. Just like in the anime the brutality serves to show how dangerous the abyss truly is. It's a ruthless place where you CAN'T fuck up. Plus, it also clashes with how "cute" and clueless the characters are. Riko went into the abyss underestimating it REALLY hard and the only reason she didn't died yet is sheer luck.
May I mention, that one of the most basic enemies get the most brutal death scene? I mean, look at the hammerbeaks. They straight up rip off your entire freaking head and there's even blood that spurts out of the remains. While Orb Piercer and others may be brutal, they basically leave you in one piece, either just killing you or eating you whole, just wanted to point that out. Also, there's one you missed, it's the Silkfang death when you normally encounter and fight it. The silkfang spits a web on you and... you can guess the rest.
11:22 this one is of the first death animations not introducing blood or some sort of gore, that enemy has a bit of honor on not brutally killing the main character
Aside from looking "cheap" in some aspect of gameplay and animation. This game did convey the demise in the world of made in abyss pretty well. I mean, I'm initially playing this game and thought "Huh, This is kinda cute" and later to a horror show of dying in the most unpleasantry way which is very contradict to the BGM, The art direction and all.
Honestly I love tone dissonance like this. My first introduction to it was on a PS3 game called Naughty Bear (I recommend it it’s hilarious in the most morbid way) the game is pastel colored and looks like it comes from a childrens game. The inhabitants are fluffy teddy bears having child friendly good times and even has a narrator that sounds like a kids show narrator. Then theirs the town outcast that lives in a crummy shack in the woods named Naughty Bear and each chapter involves you exacting revenge on the other bears that have insulted you by turning their PG good times into a horror movie and you get points for the amount of terror inflicted before murdering them. And it’s all delivered with the same PG tone by the narrator with “Naughty Bear is going to do something naughty”
When I first came across this game I knew absolutely nothing about the anime itself and even so, something about the artstyle instantly screamed that these characters were going to experience just the most horribly cruel shit possible. Neat to see I wasn't wrong - I wonder what it is about the visual style that conveys that, because on a superficial level the individual details just look "cute" to me, yet the sum total is utterly sinister.
I'm familiar with made in abyss but I'm surprised a game with an much child death got published. I heard the manga is dark but not even the most hardcore games get this risky.
The game: Looks cheap af, LOTS of bugs and bugs Also the game: having 69420 different scene of children dying brutally Edit: O my fkin lord, I’m famous now
Oh wow I really didn't expect this much detail, I never even would've seen a lot of these! The biggest killer in my playthrough has just been falling so far xD
Someone who really loved both classic Resident Evil 2 and Dark Souls remembered these two games, saw that they were developing a MiA game and a big, bloody lightbulb turned on. And then the lightbulb exploded in a squall of gore.
I was so close to getting shocked... And then the repeated assets come in and I lose almost all interest in whatever shock factor the game had going for it. Good job for compiling them nonetheless!
You missed a death, at the end you can fight dechuanga and he has a death animation where he holds your lifeless corps up and claims victory upon you I also saw one where Aki (player) stares at the camera and starts bleeding out of there mouth and eyes, plausibly a death due to the strain
I wasn't planning to play the game, but seeing all these monsters' designs, I realized this could actually be a pretty valuable addition to MiA which makes its world more complete. MiA is essentially an abstract and philosophical story, where we don't get many details of the day-to-day of their journey, e.g. the monsters they have to face and how they scavenge to survive, etc., which justifiably is not the focus ot he story at all. I think this is totally fine and even is one key factor in solidifying its unique style, but if somebody actually thought "wait a minute, how did the cave explorers actually go through all those layers and face all the more mundane danger that are not other human beings", such a game could give a somewhat compelling picture of that, depending on its execution. (I don't think most readers really think about or care about that though, and that's a deliberate result of the beautiful and gripping storytelling that focuses on what's key to the themes.)
The deaths are really the only thing they got going for this game. There's definitely a gruesome impact whenever you die, which feels almost Resident Evil-like when you get killed by something. It's not to say we don't have games now a days that still do this, but there's more dread when you realize this is happening to children, and they don't shy away from that. The issue though, is that the rest of the game feels very budgeted, almost a worse adventure style monster hunter. A shame, cause this could have had potential to be something better. Makes me wonder if this was gonna be a throwaway mobile game to promote the series...
The music is good, though, and from what I heard, the first part is the tutorial, which last 3 hours. The real meat of the game, which is supposedly good, comes later.

The one with the bird that ripps off the head is suprisingly brutal. Even the Anime and manga doesnt have a death or gore like that. At least i cant remember one
Love that the game has no mercy with the spam rate, i laugh on those who ask for fast-travel, the concept of the game and series is the long and dangerous journey. ofcourse the game is not the best but at least is one of the better anime games out there
There is a fast travel. It's not available on demand 100% of the time and is tied to main quest progression but man is it nice once you can fast travel and skip climbing back up the fourth layer.

Finally, some deep-fried cunny.

When you think about it, if pokemon was a rated M series and based on some of the dark pokedex entries, this could have easily been Pokemon Legends Arceus, like imagine being swarms by Paras and they are basically eating you alive

Also... could care less(its anime FFS! Well you can imagine that i destroyed that planet more than once.
this game is literally dark souls but made for people who are obsessed with seeing kids get harmed.
The deaths in this game are so over the top it's insane 💀
The silkfang spits a web on you and... you can guess the rest.
and does kinky stuff to you

It’s one of those games like conker. Seems family friendly but pretty mature in disguise, made to traumatize children.

There is simply no better way to shock the audience by brutally murdering children on screen. And author knows this.

@@Magicksun Looks like it's pretty bad on PC too.

Not surprised when some of the enemies are just rare or stronger versions of already existing enemies

Ah yes! Now you can experience made in abyss in video games, so you can suffer Twice!
People who don't knows: Aww the art style is so cute! Must be a very adorable games.
People who knows: *laughing maniacly in the corner*

I'm glade that they still keep warm-hearts and family friendly tone like anime and manga.
All video game developers: “We vow to make a game where children are not allowed to die. And even if they do, it’ll be censored…”
This video game:
Other games teach children they can do anything, they can't die. That is a bad message for them.

They had us in the first halve, not gonna lie
Yeah unfortunately. Nonetheless, I'm impressed with so many different death animations even if they are all not unique.
What did he mean by this?
@@superheriber27 The fact that a bunch of different enemies reuse the same death animations.
The game had very low budget, I can totally see why they did that
You missed a death, at the end you can fight dechuanga and he has a death animation where he holds your lifeless corps up and claims victory upon you
I also saw one where Aki (player) stares at the camera and starts bleeding out of there mouth and eyes, plausibly a death due to the strain

"Mou daijoubu" (I'm alright)

10:15 the character blinked
Being eaten alive
The deaths are really the only thing they got going for this game. There's definitely a gruesome impact whenever you die, which feels almost Resident Evil-like when you get killed by something. It's not to say we don't have games now a days that still do this, but there's more dread when you realize this is happening to children, and they don't shy away from that.
The issue though, is that the rest of the game feels very budgeted, almost a worse adventure style monster hunter. A shame, cause this could have had potential to be something better. Makes me wonder if this was gonna be a throwaway mobile game to promote the series...
yeah the only thing actually off with the deaths are the faces, which which tells me the graphics and animation teams were at least seperate.
Resident Evil have not been so brutal since 4

@@mateoreyes6921 Some day a company will have the balls (or the insanity) to make extreme deads like Waxworks.
