Definitely. Not only does playing as a triple amputee limit the player’s mobility and make the game scarier by making them feel helpless, it also puts players in the shoes of a disabled person, giving them a glimpse of these people’s everyday struggles. What a fantastic idea for a video game. Not only could this be a unique and exciting indie game for survival horror fans like myself, but it could also potentially raise awareness for people with physical disabilities. My mom suffered from Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a disorder where your own body’s immune system starts attacking your nervous system. When that happens, you basically become paralyzed, and so she was confined to a hospital bed, not even able to swallow solid food, so they had to feed her through a tube. For a while it seemed like she was going to die, but thankfully she survived. It took several weeks of physical therapy for her to be able to walk again, and she had to use a walker to help her when she got out of the hospital. The doctors never thought she’d ever regain full motor function in her legs, but they were wrong. She persevered and she made a full recovery. It’s a miracle that she wasn’t dependent on that walker for the rest of her life, and it makes me very happy to know that she was did that, but there are a lot of people out there who weren’t as fortunate as she was. There are thousands of people with paralyzed or missing limbs who struggle like my mom did every day. I have seen first hand just how painful that can be, and if there’s even the slightest chance that this game can help bring awareness to this issue, then I wholeheartedly want to support this project in any way that I can.
What if there was a stamina system that just purely influenced audio? If a player moved more erratically or for longer periods of time there characters would make panicked noises or tired noises respectively. Not sure if its a good one but its a idea.
Idk how to make a comment that he can see but, it would be hella cool if he made a game mode in which a creature constantly followed you, and you could somehow sense it, increasing the tension of the setting. Or maybe some more "alive" ambient elements, like gas pipes with leaks, monsters destroying lab equipment (maybe just the sound of it haha), etc. Pretty cool game
I would absolutely love seeing blood trail out behind the character as you move. It could even interact with enemy AI by having them follow them follow your blood trails, or could help you from becoming lost. Or, what if for some reason, there's a blood trail that's not your own in a maze section to confuse you? To do this you could just move the ironing your wounds part from the beginning to later on in the game. I think it would be really amazing.
I think player model would look less silly if a portion of the missing limbs was still attached. It wouldn’t change the gameplay but it would make it seem more believable.
@@GldnClaw it is meant to be lumbs cut off and cauterized, so the lower body have to go, cuz even the hip can give some movement. The other arm can make a short stump since it does look a bit silly, like a torso with just an arm. The parasyte's tail is indeed a good idea.
Just imagine having 3 of your limbs torn off, then having to agonizingly cauterize the wounds to stop it from bleeding… That’s an unimaginable amount of pain to go through! Game looks great! Awesome concept!
Wouldn't be that bad tbh. You'd be in shock until you die or a few hours after the cauterization. Frankly you'd just bleed out too fast to feel much pain. The painful thing would be the phantom limb pain afterward

I've got a couple of ideas: 1. I think that the flares should illuminate the surroundings a bit more strongly, as they seem very underpowered in that aspect. 2. I'd be careful about the puzzles, as puzzles have partially ruined several otherwise great games that I've played before. It can be done though. 3. I can't stop you from releasing it before Halloween, but I'd advise that you take as much time as you need because rushed games rarely turn out well. Looks very promising!
I definitely agree with the flares aspect and also think they should not only be brightened, but maybe even create a lasting projectile that stays on the ground and continues to light up the area after it is fired. Also I think complex puzzles are fine for optional sections but not for solely gameplay progression. The roadblocks in just main story progression should probably only be boss fights instead of puzzles in my opinion.
He Needs to have Guns What Are Stronger but Less in Ammo so you can use the Map to change / Go into an Airlock to another station or watch on the CCTV cameras where the enemies are to throw them out of such Airlocks or Reduce the Air Quality

@@mildlydumbperson8465 The problem isn't accuracy, the problem is the insane knockback. If you fire it with one hand, the gun will fly off after one shot.
Here's some ideas i have for items and guns: staple gun, shoots staples that have knockback, deal no damage and staple monsters to the walls for 5 seconds, making them unable to move, the staple gun uses staple cartridges to shoot, each cartridge is the size of a revolver bullet and has 20 staples which means you can shoot up to 20 times before you need to reload, staple cartridges are rare due to them having a lot of ammo and are more common in the lab area, it would make sense that a lab has staples parassite stopper, a syringe that when injected permanently slows down the parassite, you can find one in each area pointing any weapon at your head while no monsters are nearby will make you shoot yourself, killing you instanly

What I like about this video is it highlights just how many hurdles you face trying to accomplish what seems like a really simple thing... and how game engines have a habit of getting in your way whenever you're doing something they don't expect. The first 5 minutes of this video summarises weeks (maybe months) of work, struggles, and relentless determination, just to get nice shadows and FoW. Bravo though, it's looking really good!
You should make the rat create a small visual at the edge of the screen at the same time it makes a noise, both to help with determining the direction of the rat and to help with players who are hearing impaired.

@@Bruhman_YUSS Im pretty sure there are plenty of videos which explain that. If you want to get more professional help, there are websites which have high quality tutorials of professionals explaining how to do stuff like that (I just cant remember the name). If you wanna do it, do it.

Perhaps something related to an enemy who cannot see the player, but can hear them (kinda like the Warden from Minecraft). It would make the player have to make less noise, but at the same time keep moving from e.g. the rats. So having to move quickly, and stay still to not get killed by the *blind creature*

@@DJHEADPHONENINJA I want to go to college to learn how to professionally make animations on an industry standard and also to have a degree so I can have a better chance of getting into the studios I want like Rockstar for example
One thing I like about this game is that in many media with zombies/mutants, the monsters are much stronger and agile than regular humans to crank up the tension, which most of the time doesnt make sense since they are all sick and broken in many different ways. Here though, its pretty obvious the mutants are not super strong and agile, in fact they are all pretty slow and not very tough, a regular person would probably take care of them easily with guns. However, the character is in such a weak and vulnerable state by having lost 3 limbs and having a parasite inside of him that such weak monsters pose a great threat. It's surprinsingly realistic for a survival horror situation that the monsters are so weak and having the protagonist be even weaker is such a creative and interesting way to add tension to it.
I'm not big into survival horror, but man does this look cool. I don't think I've ever gotten such a strong reaction from a devlog video before, but I felt tense throughout especially with that little rat creature. The whole vibe, even just this first look at the full version, feels so cohesive. The gliding sound of movement, the squishy gun shots with recoil, the music. It's incredible.
I don't know about which background music you already have, but from personal experience, good (and interactive to environment) tracks are pretty important to create a scary atmosphere.
The tracks shoudn't mimick enemy noises though, or at least be distinct enough. Resident Evil 4 combat music in the castle was so needlessly stressful because part of the track, some low whispering and singin, sounded a lot like the noise zombies' make, low whispering and singing.
@@SpadeNya doesn't have to blow your ears out to be good just enough to make you bop around which still fits the aesthetic and overall vibe of the game and maybe toss in some ambience in there too while you're at it with like clanking and banging of metal off in distance which is still distinctive from gameplay sfx
7:52 another way to avoid soft locking the game is to make it so the timer will never actually kill you, but get you within a single health point, so the slightest bit of damage will do you in
The way you have to manually reload is the most creative use of UI I've ever seen. Great to see the improvements you've made to the visuals, looks awesome!
This game looks freaking amazing! What a unique and interesting concept for a horror game! A triple amputee who has to crawl around with his one remaining limb while simultaneously fending off monsters to stay alive?! What a great idea to set your game apart from other indie horror games! Excellent work, man! I’m adding this game to my wishlist right now. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! 👍
Something that I saw that might be a fun(?) bit of interactivity, I saw you flip a switch at 7:33, rather than making it a click to toggle, having it where you have to drag might go well with the existing movement system, provided there's not some programming reason not to.
Idea:flare gun that would make a ton of noice, gives full vision for some seconds and sets enemies ablaze Idea:night vision Gogles that needs battery reload and removes the black fog
I dont usually play horror but I am so glad this was in my recommendations and see your progress. Good luck with the development, I hope it gets noticed by lots of people
I feel like a bait item would be cool, like something to lure the enemy away for a couple of seconds to give the players some time to breathe, also, a new enemy who isn't affected by this bait
maybe not a zombie film but a alien one sounds cooler, because with zombies they will just simply overcrowd you, if said main character in the movie doesn't get these cool robot legs and arms (-s, it just sounds better) and so on
Really like this concept especially the rat using noises to keep the player on their toes. Sound is probably the most terrifying part of these games so having an enemy that makes you sweat as soon as you recognize a sound its making is perfect.
A spitball I had that would help make this game feel a little more consistent would be an Amputee Zombie, who moves in short bursts similar to your player character, just to show that you weren't the only one losing limbs.
Really cool project and progress. About keeping the player always stressed out: remember that sometimes more is less. Making the player face enemies without end is just annoying at some point and makes them get used to it. Also instead of putting down a bunch of dangerous situations, sometimes hinting towards danger with nothing actually happening for a bit is a lot more stressful overall.
Thanks for going through all the details, it's fascinating to see your process. Can't wait to play the full thing when it's ready, this is an awesome concept!
THIS IS AWESOME! I seriously like survival horror and a sense of claustrophobia and pure fear and body horror so this looks utterly incredible, here’s a slight suggestion, maybe have you able to find robot limbs if you complete the game 3 times on the hardest difficulty, I love secrets like that in games

What about dangly bits? Tendons, tail of the parasite at high (low?) health.
@@GldnClaw it is meant to be lumbs cut off and cauterized, so the lower body have to go, cuz even the hip can give some movement.

I've got a couple of ideas:
Considering this guy coded this game from scratch in around 15 hours of work time, he might actually be able to pull it off. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking, though
Like your style of devlogs a lot. Always to the point, zero bs information. Great progress, looking forward to the next devlog! Best of luck and fun.
I think what I most appreciate is how well he explains some of the mechanics he's implemented, and also how he arrived at the solution he landed on.
His latest bunch of devlogs are pretty much perfection. I discovered him through his video about not wasting peoples time and was kinda shocked when looking at his early devlogs how meandering they were. I'm glad he changed his style.
Ignore the logic of how he's still alive, I'm more concerned with how he's able to accurately shoot a double barrel shotgun with only one arm.
To be fair shotguns are more easier to hit targets since its spread
@@mildlydumbperson8465 The problem isn't accuracy, the problem is the insane knockback. If you fire it with one hand, the gun will fly off after one shot.

@@mildlydumbperson8465 His arm would probly fall off from the recoil lol
@@AtlasAlternate assuming hes bleeding out a bit, hes prob feeling mad weak due to blood loss
Here's some ideas i have for items and guns:
staple gun, shoots staples that have knockback, deal no damage and staple monsters to the walls for 5 seconds, making them unable to move, the staple gun uses staple cartridges to shoot, each cartridge is the size of a revolver bullet and has 20 staples which means you can shoot up to 20 times before you need to reload, staple cartridges are rare due to them having a lot of ammo and are more common in the lab area, it would make sense that a lab has staples
parassite stopper, a syringe that when injected permanently slows down the parassite, you can find one in each area
pointing any weapon at your head while no monsters are nearby will make you shoot yourself, killing you instanly
Your attitude of “… I just want there to be a lot to do, and the player to always be stressed out” is going to work out I think! Definitely focusing on those core gameplay mechanics! I love seeing dedicated developers still working on games
I love how you go into a bit of detail on how you coded various parts of the game. Very illuminating for me wanting to learn that sort of thing! (Pun half intended with the shadow system and all that lol).
Im not the best at audio design, but I feel like you should add reverb to the player's screams and all his coughs. It would really bring the immersion to the next level. Also, amazing job this is so so great

I loved seeing all the problem solving you had to do. Visuals look amazing.

This is so true. There are some ideas out there when you seem, and than your like “how did I not think about that.”
Its not only that, you need the skills to make it, the passion and effort crammed into the making of the thing and last of all the luck and impeccable trend timing, to make it big from nothing overnight, nothing is ever easy so go out there and start doing "stuff" and see what sticks instead of thinking

A first person game where your character suddenly lost all the senses but you manage to turn it back on one by one, first can only see (and push stuff with nose or head), then can only operate one arm, then another, then one leg, then full body.

It should also sound fucking badass and an absolute jam
@@02banshee99 doesn't match the vibe the most, but I could definitely see a doom boss vibe coming on depending on how stressful combat is.
@@SpadeNya but goddamn does a stressful overstimulating (ok maybe not over stimuli) jam of a boss fight music sounds ridiculously fun

The way you have to manually reload is the most creative use of UI I've ever seen. Great to see the improvements you've made to the visuals, looks awesome!
wow love the reloading. not only makes the game more tense in tougher parts but its kinda realistic too.
This game looks freaking amazing! What a unique and interesting concept for a horror game!
I've always loved the concept of cutting limbs off in the game since LISA: The Painful, was really excited to find this in my recommended

I feel like a bait item would be cool, like something to lure the enemy away for a couple of seconds to give the players some time to breathe, also, a new enemy who isn't affected by this bait
I can only think of firing the flare gun on an empty space or throwing a bullet casing, like from Battlefield 1.
I'm going to Wishlist, looks very fun.
Imagine making a movie about the last man on Earth trying to survive the zombie apocalypse with just one arm.

Armed and Dangerous
LMAOOOOO “ARMED AND DANGEROUS” LMFAOOOOOOO
Really like this concept especially the rat using noises to keep the player on their toes. Sound is probably the most terrifying part of these games so having an enemy that makes you sweat as soon as you recognize a sound its making is perfect.
Holy shit. I am pretty sure we have just struck indie gold. This looks Absolutely amazing. I highly recommend going all the way with this one!
At the beginning the captions just say “laughs”
