    This makes me think of the initial release of the PS:VR. I walked into gamestop to witness the tail end of an argument between a customer and the cashier. After the customer left, the cashier told me that the customer had tried to return a PSVR headset because it "didn't work". The cashier tried to find out what was wrong. Apparently the customer got upset when the cashier told them that of course the headset wouldn't work if it wasn't plugged in to a PS4.

    Vr is so realistic in GT7. All your real life driving instincts kick in. You have to use your head to look in the mirrors and use real spatial awareness when overtaking as everything is in full 3d at life size scale. It's a stunning experience and far more like real life driving than sitting on a sofa playing a game. If you love racing you need to try this.

    Be careful with point two: you don't necessarily want to move the front in 'as far as it will go' - this will cause the pressure on bridge of nose and can lead to fogging of the lens too.
    The micro-adjustment aspect is on point though: best to pause and use the menu text to tune out the blur. I do this by adjusting the front of the headband up/down where it rests on my forehead.

    I find that actually going into a game and adjusting it there is the best way to get the clearest image possible and then tightening it to stay at that position. The headset tends to sag on my head a little so I have to put in a bit higher and when it finally rests on my head it’s at the right eye level. Turning down the brightness level (to 70%)also helped. The image quality really is spectacular when you have it configured correctly.

    For the first time having a big head is a bonus lol. My ipd is perfectly centered at the max range of the psvr2 wheel so there is no struggle to be on the money. Some advice is to wear a ball cap backward where the bill is close to your neck. When I dont wear a ball cap the psvr2 seems to start to drift forward, the ball cap stops the psvr2 from moving.

    As the PSVR2 resolution is around 2000x2000 per-eye, viewing content in cinematic mode higher than 1080p (ie. 1920x1080) doesn't make a lot of sense as the final image displayed (under normal viewing conditions) will be physically limited to the per-eye resolution!
    2000x2000 accommodaes the full width of 1080p horizontally, with space at the top/bottom of the screen (because of the rectangular aspect ratio of 1080p screens). But the virtual "cinema screen" will likely be further from the user, taking up a fraction of the 2000x2000 field-of-view -- rarely do screens that we sit and watch take up our entire field-of-view.
    If the viewing distance was sufficiently close to your face to see 50% of the horizontal screen, a 4K output would make sense, but for a "cinematic" screen, this type of viewing arrangement doesn't make much sense.
    Limiting cinema mode to 1080p makes a ton of sense given the physical limitations of the PSVR2 displays. And hey, it leaves the door open for playing regular games at higher framerates with the headset on, or even those (if any) that will support stereo viewing.
    If the PSVR3 offered a per-eye resolution of 4000x4000 (a hefty render workload at 32M pixels), then 4K would make much more sense. Of course, users may then complain about the lack of 8K content on the display!

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts Рік тому +1

      Ideally though, you'd be able to adjust the size of the virtual screen that cinematic mode uses to determine how far from the screen you're sitting, so to speak, & the resolution would adjust to match. I see no reason why that couldn't be done in software.

    • @SeanLumly
      @SeanLumly Рік тому +1

      @@nightcatarts The PSVR1 had an adjustment of size, and so I would be surprised if this did not exist for PSVR2.
      The point is this: virtually no common scenario would have a screen larger than the field of view. Even on PSVR1, the largest screen (iirc) was still contained in the field-of-view, and it was so big as to have you moving your head to see the different parts of the screen.

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts Рік тому

      @@SeanLumly Yea it makes no sense to go beyond that, but it'd still be nice to be able to push it a bit & have the source render out at a matching resolution instead of being locked to 1080p. Some films have a very wide AR & make little use of it, & I think those would be far more immersive with a bit of virtual wrap-around.

    • @SeanLumly
      @SeanLumly Рік тому +1

      @@nightcatarts I can see that. Options are nice, after all, and it seems like an easy software solution to enable.
      I could see myself using cinema mode on PSVR2. I just wish it was a bit more than a floating 2D screen. I would _love_ a themed theater to watch content in.

    I noticed the Moire almost straight away, I wasn't looking for it. Of course my only thought was "wow, that's barely visible compared to PSVR1/Rift S" and just moved on.
    I'd also say no to glasses though given if anything goes wrong you can scratch the headset lenses and mine are quite big and don't seem to fit inside comfortably. That said, just not pushing the headset quite all the way to my face seems to get it in perfect focus without my glasses, which is a good thing as the lenses steam up if I push it "as far as it will go".
    I think I figured why things really close up like in Resident Evil is bad for me though, I think it stresses my lazy eye too much as I felt it in Moss whenever an object is just that bit too close. Might adjust if I play more VR though as I never played that heavily as both my previous headsets fogged up too badly, PSVR2 seems a lot better though doesn't avoid it entirely.

Any suggestions?

    • @corey_massey
      @corey_massey Рік тому +1

      The PSVR2 can get as tight to your head as you can stand it with the tightening wheel at the back of the headset, especially if you are wearing the headset correctly. Because of the intentional diagonal design that the PSVR2 sits at on your head, i usually will start with one hand holding the front of the PSVR2 headset up and with the other hand pull the back of the headset down towards my neck. Since the PSVR2 starts in passthrough mode if you don't have the controllers on already, you will be looking at a menu prompt that say to make sure you are holding your controllers. This screen is like a defacto calibration tool because it gives you, White text on a black background which is going to serve as your basis for checking clarity. You should adjust the headset until these words are crystal clear. Once you have the correct position you should start to tighten the wheel at the back of the headset, while keeping it down towards your neck. How tight you want it from here is upto you but if you worry about it slipping down then my suggestion is to go as tight as you can stand it.

    • @DigiLena
      @DigiLena Рік тому

      @@corey_massey I find that I have the back very tight but the problem is the front. If I try to push it more towards my face I either end up totally blurry or it actually doesn’t click in place. I do have the strap towards the bottom part of my head 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts Рік тому +2

      Hopefully Sony will add a toggle to allow eye tracking & foveated rendering if it only picks up one eye during calibration. Seems like a simple software fix & there's no reason why it couldn't still work, considering each eye is tracked separately anyway.

  • @nightcatarts
    @nightcatarts Рік тому +1

    Ahh, yea people are definitely wearing it with the halo too horizontal. I thought that was an odd complaint. Strange they didn't make the IPD wheel only move when raised & lock it down with a toggle press.
    As for the audio, you can get little in-line volume adjusters for earphones that lack them; they just plug in between the headset & headphones' normal cable. Shouldn't be too hard to reach, given the location of the headset's socket either.
    Shame about the cinematic mode resolution limit. I'd have thought the console could cope with downscaling 4K video more easily than rendering 4K games.. especially considering it's able to downscale that gameplay for streaming, so perhaps that could be patched away in future. On the other hand, maybe the PS5's video decoding hardware is a bit on the weak side.

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts Рік тому +1

      @@shenmeowzo A search for in-line 3.5mm volume should get you the right stuff. They just have a plug, a socket, & a wheel to adjust the volume.
      The PS5 can definitely play 4K Blu-rays on a normal screen. I can't really see any reason why they'd drop the resolution that far in cinematic unless they basically brute forced things & locked cinematic to a total of 4K (including the black space around the screen), but if that's the case then it could be improved in software. Watching it at native res might give you an excessively huge virtual screen, but no reason why 1440p couldn't be the target.

This is a link to a UA-camr who appears to be the ONLY ONE that is showing the ACTUAL graphics you will get = ua-cam.com/video/NvajYqgA1Bw/v-deo.html he still loves the experience but some peoples expectations have been warped by the marketing of this headset.

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts Рік тому

      That's due to the warping required to make the images wrap around your FoV, & it's the same with any VR headset. The resolution isn't any lower, & the console absolutely is not rendering a separate pass for output to a TV with increased quality (which is how that video makes it sound). That would put 1/3rd extra load on the hardware for absolutely no reason.

    Your statement that 120hz has no effect on vr gaming is not quite true. In 120hz mode it doesn't output to the TV, so it must be putting extra resources into the games, otherwise why turn off the TV output? 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts Рік тому +1

      Nah it's just that the TV output is mirrored (to ensure there is negligible extra resource usage). When set to 120hz the mirroring will work, provided the flat screen can display at 120hz (a potential bug aside with the menus not mirroring). In short, changing the output resolution from a mirrored 120hz down to the 60hz most TVs currently support would require extra processing power.

      @@nightcatarts ya I noticed that. What happens is, it doesn't work on the menus until you get into a game but once the game is running, the menus do actually mirror too. It's a strange one. So that's probably why I didn't go back to check after with 120hz mode.

    Kinda tired of the "oh you're just wearing it wrong" on UA-cam. We're not stupid, we're just unlucky--the headset just doesn't fit every head and nose shape and eye position. No amount of loosening or placement adjusting of the front or back on any axis with completely alleviate the problem. The best people can do: If you wear glasses, get prescription inserts, and get a 3rd party cushion replacement for the front part of the halo, when they become available.

      It will, but you won't get the depth perception (so in effect it'll be just like reality). It will also disable the foveated rendering or lock it to the centre of the view though. Depends on the disability. Many games will let you play using a standard DualSense controller (or a translated accessibility one), & almost all let you play seated, if mobility is the issue, & it can be more immersive than flat even if you only have the use of one eye. You won't get the full experience, of course, but the main lock-out is the price barrier.

    Mura can be fixed with glasses that block out green light. If someone made green blocking glasses (50% block of green not 100%) like the blue light computer glasses which have clear lenses would eliminate this issue. Or a software update to minimize the green pixels (50% less brightness to green) as there are double green pixels to every red and blue,
