I know people are going to say “well Benson was probably trying to teach them discipline” that doesn’t justify how extreme he took things. The work he asked them to do wasn't hard. If they actually did their jobs, they would not have had as much work to do. And if they had just done the work in the first place, they would've had time to get the burgers. But they continued to try to get out of it.
@@Exzimius Judging by Benson’s reaction to them seeing Skip’s garage he knew they wouldn’t clean it out in time. Why should it even be their responsibility to clean it out, it’s skips house shouldn’t he be responsible for cleaning out his own garage. Benson during this episode was being real petty.
@@alecjackman2655 I disagree entirely. For everything Skips does for them and the park, the least they can do is clean out his garage. And they were trying to skip out on their work the entire day. Had they just suck it up and did the work they were supposed to do all week they would've had the time to get burgers. I am whole heatedly on Bensons side on this because Mordecai and Rigby are lazy. The situation was entirely their fault. They're at a job, they need to do their work. Everyone else did, idk why Mordecai and Rigby should be exempt from that.
@@alecjackman2655 But he didn't make them miss it out. All he asks is for them to do their work. I don't think he's asking for much. The smart thing would've been one of them getting a burger while the other worked and switching like that. I doubt Benson would've had a problem with that since the work was still getting done. But instead, they decided to skip the work to get burgers. I think we can agree how Benson is at least somewhat justified in his anger here consider they're the only ones who don't do their jobs.
True that. I probably wouldn't even want to have an Ulti-Meatum in real life just because it would be massively unhealthy, but the show makes it look like one of the most delicious snacks in the world. The only reason I was mad at Benson in this episode is because he got to eat TWO Ulti-Meatums while every other character (Skips, Pops, Muscle Man) only got to eat one each.
@@mrreyes5004 it also would probably taste like shit considering having a bunch of different animals shoved into one burger wouldn't necessarily taste good. there is a reason we stick to deer and cow meat for the most part in history.
Honestly, I understand Benson for making Mordecai and Rigby pick up the slack on their work that they clearly missed out on intentionally because their slackers. But him eating the burgers at the end of the episode was the most unforgivable crime Benson's committed.
That’s what I was thinking. He was reasonable in the first half of the episode but by the second one he did the absolute worst thing for his character.
Not only that, but he made them clear out Skips’ garage of POPS’ stuff. It should’ve been HIS problem, not Mordecai and Rigby’s. At least Benson gets a taste of karma in “Sandwich of Death” when he attempts to eat their death sandwich wrong.
One of a kind burgers or not, Mordecai and Rigby paid the burgers with their own money. Benson is chowing their eats down in front of them. He, at the very least deserves to get beat up.
I think this is only the worst moment because he doesn’t apologize afterwards. Selling their Stick Hockey table because he expects them to not finish work, berating Rigby while he’s in a coma, these are absolutely shitty moments, but the episodes kind of revolve around Benson apologizing
Or rather the fact that he never faces any consequences here. Usually when a character acts like an asshole throughout the episode they end up paying for that at the end (like in that glorious Christmas special where Muscleman receives the beatdown of the century after being a douchebag throughout it) but in this one he just gets away with it
If Benson wanted to prove a point he should've just let them buy them and just not let them eat it till they finished there work But either way this is one of the few episodes where Benson is the asshole and mordecai and Rigby are right
Had Mordecai and Rigby done their job in the first place they would have been the first ones to get them but Benson was just being cruel. Not only did he fought his employees but also ate their burgers.
As an adult now, I relate to Benson a lot, and he is one of my favorite characters of the show. But I do think this episode is just him being purely hateful, and doing way too much to punish the two, especially since he is denying them a lunch break. I know Mordecai and Rigby definitely not the best workers, but monitoring them closely without break and preventing from getting a lunch break doesn’t look good from a business perspective
He's denying them a lunch break, but if we're being real here with lunch breaks and the like, Mordecai and Rigby would've been terminated a long time ago and had charges pressed on them.
Well, they pretty much slacked off throughout the whole episode just to go get a burger, they didn't finish one job last week like Benson said, and they even rejected Benson's deal to clean out Skips garage by tricking him with holographic clones just to go get a burger, which is why Benson ate their burgers for punishment.
Don’t feel too bad for them. Benson probably got some comeuppance later at his apartment. After eating 2 massive, greasy, and fatty burgers, he must gotten some fierce diarrhea. …Yes I realize that’s gross, but who ever said that karma is clean?
Well they didn't do the jobs that he told them to do last week and tried to cheat their way out of work. But him eating the burgers right in front of them was a real dick move.
@@overdrive7349 honestly fr, instead of shoving the damn things in his mouth he could've just took them and kept an eye on them until they actually finish their job
Hey remember that one time Benson promised them he’d let Mordo and Rigs keep the stick hockey table if they finished their gum removing job? They did it with PURE MOTIVATION because there was a reward for them. It’s how they operate, give them something to look forward to and they can actually be competent like when they did a scary movie night because there was a paid day off. When they finished what does Benson do? He GIVES THE TABLE AWAY BREAKING HIS OWN PROMISE!! They often act like kids and we all know that kids make too many errors or behave lazily if they don’t have a legitimate reason to work hard. Even Rigby realized it and I quote “work hard and then play hard” but his realization is reset because Benson broke his promise and they refused to talk to him because he gave them one reason to NOT trust him. Remember that one time Mordecai punched Benson for saying something that came out poorly at the worst possible time?
Then people want to justify it with Benson having a bad history with Stick Hockey and that he was trying to save them. If that was the case, why didn't we see flashbacks from Benson BEFORE the big reveal? That's like a character deciding to get rid of a prized possession of another's because of PTSD...and the audience not learning of this PTSD at all until the last second.
@@GhostGuy99 oh so very true not only was the episode’s context told out of order but Benson should’ve told them the truth. Like “guys I quit stick hockey because of the death of my pupil” they’d promise him to avoid the death tournament. That one’s on Benson for not being honest
That wasn’t nice of Benson but you guys are kinda over exaggerating how horrible of a thing Benson did. I think people should understand mordecai and Rigby NEVER do their work. Yes Benson shouldn’t have thrown it away but from what I remember, didn’t his brother or friend get BEHEADED? Also he redeems himself when he LITERALLY SAVES THEIR LIVES and gets the hockey table back. When Benson gets the hockey table back, Mordecai and Rigby don’t even want it anymore. @@GhostGuy99 I think that’s pretty understandable and justifiable? His friend died and got beheaded. Also I’m pretty sure that’s just the writing? Why would Benson want to talk about a horrible experience. Plus I think it’s kind of redeeming and more understandable to have the flashback afterwards.
@@Violet-qi4yb I know they’re lazy but they can be persuaded. It’s the reason they finally did a job correctly for once they removed all the gum in the park because they had a motivation. Even though I feel bad for Mordecai and rigny they kinda deserve it for slaking but benson should’ve gave them a lunch break but I blame those holograms if it weren’t from them mordecia and rigby could’ve ate the burgers before benson took it
Nah, it’s DEFINITELY Rigby’s fault here. Bro is the one who started the plan to make the holograms in the first place and he convinced, or more fittingly, tempted Mordecai to create holograms of themselves because he thought that Benson would be a careless nimrod who wouldn’t give a damn about the holograms and would just tell them to get back to their jobs without making sure to see them when in fact, he should’ve thought about the fact that Benson would notice that the holograms aren’t moving and would touch them to make sure they’re real or not and then notice that they’re not real after seeing them fall without reacting or responding. Plus, like the irresponsible baby that he always is (except for maybe those times he would advise Mordecai not to meet Margaret because of his obsession with her or he would pass Benson’s test in confirming that he’s a real employee when Muscle Man was carrying and helping him that one episode), he kept on telling Mordecai not to listen to Benson’s instructions, leading the latter to always tell them to get back to their jobs when they were trying to sneak in for the burgers, which is what made them late for the burgers as they just wouldn’t finish their jobs.
@@mohammedahmmed9827 how are you gonna put it all on rigby here and act like Mordecai was some helpless manipulated victim without his own thoughts here. They both thought it was a good idea. Whether they did the holograms thing or not they weren’t finishing that shit before the burger truck ended.
I feel like Sandwich of Death was made to give benson his karma for this episode because just like this episode he tried to be an asshole and eat another one of their sandwiches only for it to bite him in the ass
This episode made me hate him. He’s always rational in every episode. It was weird to have him in the wrong. Not just in the wrong but in the worst way possible. At least he got punched by Mordo later. Sad thing is he thought they deserved it for eating his grilled cheese. Mordo didn’t even know it was his. It was Rigby’s fault.
I agree but knowing mordecai and rigby that would probably turn into an episode where they try and find the sandwiches. If the sandwiches are in a safe or in a locked cabinet they’re probably gonna try finding keys or a code. Benson knows them too well (it was still a jerk move but I kinda understand)
What I like to do is watch this episode and then watch the “Sandwich of Death” episode right after, so in a way Benson gets what he deserves for eating other people’s sandwiches.
Going through and watching every episode in order of release, I instantly remembered how awful this episode was. I really didn't like the part when they had to kill holograms that looked just liked them. It was really messed up.
@glocki6655 there were a lot of other things that bugged me with certain episodes but this episode just made me feel bad. I never wrote down a list of bad moments but I remember Starla randomly murdering a bunch of people in a helicopter in her first appearance. That bugged me too.
I just had to read the thumbnail to know what exact episode you're talking about For once Mordecai and Rigby did all their hard work in like 7 hours and Benson took just took away their rewards He was just a needless dick in this episode. There's motivating your workers then there's just taunting them and being a general nuisance
"There's motivating your workers then there's just taunting them and being a general nuisance" You just described what Mordecai and Rigby do to their bosses on a daily basis, taunting them and being a general nuisance.
Nah that's not the only time where Benson was an asshole, same can go to the episode Stick Hockey. Bro seriously sold the stick hockey table even after Mordecai and Rigby did their jobs and didn't do his part of the deal, seriously that episode genuinely made me pissed off at Benson.
If any of yall seen the episode "Death Sandwich", Benson, ONCE AGAIN, Eats one of Mordecai and rigby's Burgers, but he ends uo nearly dying in the process because he didnt have the right method. So technically it serves as his karma for eating their Ulti-meatums.
I really like Benson. He’s one of my favorite characters, but he was doing the absolute most. I think he should have just allowed them to buy the burgers and just not let them eat it until after they finished their work. That would’ve solved so many issues. Also like you said why the FUCK do they have to clean Skips’ garage? If the truck didn’t explode at the end, he would’ve been able to get it in another 100 years and he’s so much stronger and again literally has all the time in the world to clean his garage. Abusing your power as a boss and taking away their lunch break are just going too far, and I would have beat his ass for doing this and get fired/arrested because this was literally a ONE IN A LIFETIME opportunity and he just took it from them with no remorse. Definitely one of my least favorite episodes of the show
“I think he should have just allowed them to buy the burgers and just not let them eat it until after they finished their work. That would’ve solved so many issues.” THANK YOU!
Imma keep it real here, had Mordecai and Rigby done their jobs, I think Benson would've bought 2 Ulti-Meatums just for them as a surprise reward. But because both Mordecai and Rigby kept running off continuously for the burgers, and considering the whole "clone BS" that transpired, I can't say I blame him for not getting them shit lol. Hell, I can't say I blame him for eating their burgers in the end. However, IF Benson was planning on buying them burgers in the end, I think he should've at least told them ahead of time.
@@csokops Tbf, we don't know that. However, it's not like Mordecai and Rigby were gonna do this shit right regardless, and Benson is still in the wrong for not fully understanding the burger situation, or simply not caring for it.
Honestly, at the end of the episode Benson could have just held onto the burgers until Mordecai and Rigby finished their work. That would have been the more Benson thing to do anyway, and then everybody would be happy in the end
@scottiecurrie7927 Honestly, maybe? Idk. I really do think Benson bought some burgers for Mordecai and Rigby earlier in the episode, and just kept it a secret til they finished their work. Now however? Yeah, Benson prolly had those for dinner (Assuming he bought some ahead of time of course) 😂
There are only a handful of episodes in this entire show where Benson was completely in the wrong. And this is one of them. Denying your employees a lunch break and then stealing from them, total dick move.
I got hot watching Benson cockblocked them and ate their burgers at the end, I get it, Mordecai and Rigby slack a lot but bro, eat them enjoy their burgers first THEN make them do their jobs, him doing it at the same day a special event is taking place is just insane to me
Considering they'd been slacking the exact job they were 'stuck with' on event day for the past 2 weeks, why should Benson give them any leeway at all? 'Oh I know you've been not doing your job for two weeks and been paid $200 in those two weeks along with living at the house and eating the food there that you don't pay for, how about I let you guys go get those burgers you want then you can get back to not doing all the work you have to do?'
Even though those burgers were just fictional foods, they were kind of a huge rip-off due to the fact that they were only offered every 100 years, and due to the fact that they were sold one burger per customer, like Skips said.
I’m happy to know I’m not the only one who absolutely hated this episode because of Benson. This was always one episode I hated as a kid and still do now.
I think the most despised scene not just of Benson, but the most hate invoking scene in the SHOW, is when Benson tried passing blame to the duo when Rigby was in a coma. That was just NOT cool.
I understand why benson was so persistent on wanting them to get their jobs done, and considering they kept avoiding work i can 100% understand why he was doing it, but the scene of him eating their shit is annoying af
I remember something similar happen with my French teacher (I think) stopped me and my class from seeing the eclipse cause some the class weren’t listening to her. We saw out window people, going out to see it and apparently they only appear once every like 70-80 years? Such an asshole man, if I live long enough I might see next one
Eh, I'd blame that on the idiot students who weren't listening. Can't be mad at the teacher being forced to discipline some rowdy morons, they deserve proper respect. I agree that it was wrong to stop the entire class, but the teacher there wasn't primarily in the wrong.
This episode is infamous on so many levels and it brings out the true scope of Benson's personality. Benson was angrier and more demanding than usual and if you watch the episode closely and carefully you can actually see Benson kick Mordecai and Rigby out of the cart before demanding that they clean up the garage, throughout he had a schadenfreude bordering sadistic personality and in the end he ate their burgers, which many would find justifiable since Mordecai and Rigby ate Benson's grilled cheese deluxe but something that is considered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity couldn't even reach the scope of something that one would get any day. And I find it strange in Busted Cart (set a few episodes after the Best Burger in the World) saw Benson being tasked to deliver the damaged cart to the auto repair shop and if he didn’t and he would get fired by Mr. Mallard and it's weird that Mordecai and Rigby didn't use the opportunity to throw Benson under the bus for all the things he done previously. And a lot worse was to come after Steak Me Amadeus.
I think it’s because Busted Cart is supposed to show the true core of his character as a way to make up for this and that Mordecai and Rigby genuinely care about Benson despite their screw ups. Best Burger in the World was just a really bad moment for his character. Edit: Also this show is a comedy where status quo is king until it eventually isn’t. That or they just really don’t like holding grudges.
This entire video I was sitting here thinking about that state-mandated lunch break thing, so I was so pressed (in a good way) when you brought it up in the video. Mordecai and Rigby are slackers for sure, and I wouldn't enjoy working with them, but they're genuinely friendly guys who look out for each other (most of the time). Benson in this episode needed to have literally every bad thing in Regular Show happen to him for stealing those two burgers, and then Mordekai and Rigby need to press charges because he denied them a mandated lunch break during work hours.
I don't think state mandated lunches apply to Mordecai and Rigby, considering they're paid only $100 a week which would be a serious labor law violation if our labor laws applied in the show's world, and they are also given free room and board at the park. Not to mention the ludicrous amount of damages they've caused to the park, which all cost money in order to fix, or serious jail time in the case of our real world laws.
You really can't apply real world law to cartoons, otherwise Mordecai and Rigby would've long since have been fired and had charges pressed on them by staff like Benson.
Yeah this is how to do benson wrong 101. One of the reasons I love the stick hockey episode is that not only does benson do something wrong, but he’s called out on doing something wrong by both pops and skips and he has to make up for it. Along with the road trip episode they do a great job of showing benson really does care about Mordecai and Rigby in his own way, but this just decides to make him an asshole
this made me hate benson as a kid 😆 he didnt have to eat their sandwiches like come on… id have walked out on the job fr. THOSE BURGERS ONLY COME ONCE EVERY 100 YEARS
All that work *for nothing* and just because there was a little more left to be done. Not only that but Benson is probably the only person in the world that got to experience a once in a lifetime meal, *twice* and mf didn’t even want one in the first place
I was expecting Mordecai and Rigby to beat the crap out of Benson on the spot. They went through hell to get those burgers and Benson knows how valuable they were…also they paid for them. It would have been a lesson for Benson that what he did was unreasonable. On the other hand, Benson knows the duo takes shortcuts, I understand he wanted to teach them discipline, but what he did was unreasonable.
Benson isnt justified in this episode because he should have been doing this every time he gave them something to do. Not just when they want some special burgers
Remember that episode where Mordecai punched Benson because of that hat Rigby wanted. Yeah thats when i hated Benson the most. That had literally and I do mean literally nothing to do with work this was a complete off the clock thing they did. Here is Rigby in the hospital coma and all he says is "Maybe if you were working instead of goofing off this wouldnt have." I hated Benson for that. I felt happy when Mordecai punched him for that.
I've always hated this episode and I wish the food truck dudes would have just given Mordecai and Rigby another one since their boss just ate theirs or appreciated how hard they were fighting just to try a burger.
Im glad to know I'm not the only one who hated Benson in this particular episode. I get he's more than just a shitty boss, and he is a good character, but after all that buildup for the Ultimeatum, a once in a lifetime experience, just for it to be stolen last second made me so mad XD Even the way Benson was animated eating them he just looked smug It's funny how a bad ending can really spoil a character for you.
Crazy part too is the truck workers saw the fight go down probs we’re gonna give ‘em another set of burgers…. But then the door stopper wedge thing or bricks holding them in place go loose and then they get sent to the abyss of the crash pit. Story absolutely ducked Rigby and Mordecai here. Kind of an accurate message to give to youths: life isn’t always bar for bar fair
Now I can understand Benson's position. Mordecai and Rigby aren't just lazy workers that ruin the park every episode or so, but they've genuinely made the workplace so unworkable that Benson can't hire new people to replace them. I can understand some of Benson's punishments, like making Mordecai and Rigby eat the massive sandwich they ordered on Benson's dollar and not waste a crumb, but this one was just cruel. Benson could have easily said, "You can order the burgers, but I want to see them in the fridge until you finish the work, or your fired!" Or even just take the two burgers and hold onto them until they finished so someone like Muscle Man doesnt eat the burgers while they're in the fridge. They were genuinely working hard, trying to finish their work so they could have a burger, so I dont see why Benson wouldn't reward that when he has in the past. Hell, when they cleaned the kitchen without being asked he was ecstatic, so why punish them for doing what they're told but securing their reward so it doesn't disappear for good? Benson took a major L this episode
@thisguy1299once again, you can tell your workes to fo tbeir job in the better, benson didn't do that here, yes mordecai and rigby didn't do their jobs but tehy still did most of them, and do you think him eating the brugers was justified to just slaking off? @@flammingarrow3413 Wrong. They didn’t do that in the stick hockey episode. He told them they could have it back when they did their jobs and they did. They CAN do their jobs when they are motivated but that didn’t occur to Benson in this episode for whatever reason.
I think we can all agree that Mordecai, Rigby, and Benson are all to blame. If they did their work in the first place, Benson would t be so clingy to the duo for doing their unfinished work. However, Benson wasn’t good in this episode either. I will no doubt admit he has his flaws, and can be an overall jerk, but looking at how Mordecai and Rigby constantly cause problems and make Bensons life pretty difficult, it’s no wonder he doesn’t like them. This perfectly connects to the fan theory to why Benson doesn’t fire Mordecai and Rigby. Given the duos shenanigans usually result in property damage, Benson keeps them around so they can work off the debt that’s owed for all the damage. Even when Benson does fire them, he ends up hiring them back. Now I’m not defending Benson nor Mordecai and Rigby. There’s no doubt they are the worst, but looking at the series finale, I’m glad they grew as characters.
Even tho he ultimately won it back, (to me) one of his worst moments was Benson giving away their hockey table before letting them follow through on de-gumming the park
Ok yeah actually it’s good to know that other people shared this frustration. I was watching this episode when I was younger, and I was just in disbelief when I found that that was the ending of the episode. I actually thought that was a joke.
Wasn't there an episode where he forced Rigby to essentially be tortured by muscle man, threatening to fire him if he didn't complete the training course thing.

And those apologies meant some good character growth on his end. He learned not to go back on his word and that he can’t be right all the time.

When they finished what does Benson do? He GIVES THE TABLE AWAY BREAKING HIS OWN PROMISE!!

This really made me mad at Benson when I was a kid
Ironically just rewatched this yesterday and yea somebody shoulda definitely punched benson 😂

That would depend on if the state it tapes place in mandates lunch breaks. Some dont.
Edit: apparently the show takes place in california.
Yeah, no, as said in the video You Have to work to get the break, of You don't work, You don't get the break

I get he's more than just a shitty boss, and he is a good character, but after all that buildup for the Ultimeatum, a once in a lifetime experience, just for it to be stolen last second made me so mad XD Even the way Benson was animated eating them he just looked smug
It's funny how a bad ending can really spoil a character for you.
That episode Benson got up early so he had extra time to be a hater
Is one thing to teach someon an lesson and othe rone to be cruel, and btw skips should have been the one who cleaned the garage
They did try to get out of doing each job so i dont think they coulve been trusted to not just run to the fridge
@@flammingarrow3413 Wrong. They didn’t do that in the stick hockey episode. He told them they could have it back when they did their jobs and they did. They CAN do their jobs when they are motivated but that didn’t occur to Benson in this episode for whatever reason.
@PeachBoba1523 ok, my bad. I never watched that episode, so I'm wrong
@@flammingarrow3413 It’s okay
Watching this makes me want to watch a playlist of Benson's most miserable moments specifically made in response to this episode
Even if they were normal burgers Benson would be in the wrong, you don't take someone else's property.
yeah benson was mad fucked up wrong for doing this. there were moments where he just really sucked and was mad wrong and this is one of them.
Even tho he ultimately won it back, (to me) one of his worst moments was Benson giving away their hockey table before letting them follow through on de-gumming the park
there are other instances as well but good video ^
Eating the burgers was a step to far. Yes, there should be punishment for not performing your job. But there are limits.
Ok yeah actually it’s good to know that other people shared this frustration. I was watching this episode when I was younger, and I was just in disbelief when I found that that was the ending of the episode. I actually thought that was a joke.
It was a joke. It just wasn’t one that people were laughing at
I genuinely love Benson, Mordecai and Rigby are bad employees objectively speaking , but yeah Benson was super petty this episode.
Wasn't there an episode where he forced Rigby to essentially be tortured by muscle man, threatening to fire him if he didn't complete the training course thing.
Yeah that wasn’t one of his better moments either
I hated Benson sm in this episode.
This is, without a doubt, one of the worst Regular Show Episodes in the series.
Thank you, thank you! For someone finally saying something!!!!!!
Im sorry if my boss ever eats the food i just bought 1 min ago on purpose with a smile on his face. Then i might as well get fired because im decking the shit outta him
actually he did some many things as a jerk, this burger episode, the guitar, the stick hockey, the eggselent, and the space episode
Rigby taking Benson's grilled cheese was a bad move, but at least grilled cheese sandwiches aren't some once every 100 years hamburgers.
And he made them get him another one on their day off so there were already consequences for it.
@@PeachBoba1523 If you ask me, Benson should’ve only made Rigby get him another Grilled Cheese Deluxe on his (Rigby’s) and Mordecai’s day off because Mordecai didn’t know he was eating Benson’s Grilled Cheese Deluxe.
@@manlysoutherner3696 He did but it got destroyed on the way back.
Yeah benson sucks in this episode, he has no right to deny them freaking lunch.
Regular show is amazing
That's why his ass almost died when he ate their food
Oh thank God I wasn't the only one annoyed with that scene.
That fact he decided to do it again with there death sandwich. That backfired. He did it as revenge for that time Rigby stole his Cheesers sandwich and lied about it. But hold on, he already had his revenge but basically too a way more unfair degree in this episode. The nerve.
Even worse when you realize that they bought him a new one as an apology.
Never mind the fact that Benson still complained, this dude nearly killed himself...out of spite.
This episode use to get me absolutely LIVID as a kid😭
