I'd give the car a tune up & fix what you can! And give the car away to someone who needs a helping hand to get back on their feet again. That's what I would do with the car as free can be a good thing as we say.

The problem is poor people unless they are skilled and have enough money to maintain it won’t be able to keep it running . There is a select group of people that have the need and ability to maintain and use it - Hispanic immigrants- hard working and would be skilled enough to maintain it

I have a 98 Camry and have had it since November, 1999. It had 401k original miles and it's on its sixth timing belt. She runs good and the a/c as well as all of the accessories work well. I would keep her or give it to someone who needs a car. Truly one of the best cars I have ever had.
They are mechanically indestructible, the spiritual successor to the old RWD Volvos. I have a serious soft spot for these cars, dull as they may be. One of the last great Japanese sedans.
@ Vishal Komar, But does it leak oil, or have you been diligent enough to get them replaced as they wore out & leaked? Crank &, oil pump and rear main seals regularly fail. Also, the bracket at the exhaust manifold where the exhaust pipe meets , cracks and causes vibration. On the older models, you had to rebuild the distributor and replace the tiny seals to stop leaks from the distributor area.
I got a free 99 Camry for my first car. Two total losses later and me not giving up on it, my little Toyota still repays me for the love I’ve given it all these years. I just think the Camry is for the person that develops an attachment to it and doesn’t mind giving their daily vehicle love and repairs when it needs it. They don’t ask for much, and never let you down. It’s just an extremely lovable car.
I'd give it a full interior detail, run it through a car wash and then either keep it for a shop car/daily or find some hubcaps and list it for $1500 or so. Being a Camry someone will buy it.
Jay, we got a 96 from my wife's older sister that was sitting out in their yard and dogs used it for a dog house. We limped back home, 3 hours away and started working on it. We spent about $120O over the next 6 months; tires, windshield, exhaust flex pipe, pressure washed all the seats and carpeting after pulling it all out, reset the airbag computer, inner door handle, outer door handle, and all the standard maintenance on all the systems. We drove that car after that for 8 years. It was peeling, rock chipped, mismatched paint, but it ran and the air was ice cold. We sold it to someone who needed a reliable beater to get to work and didn't have a lot of money. $800... $305k miles. In the right hands, that car will be invaluable. Thanks for sharing!
Mid 90's Toyota's were some of the best cars ever made. I had a 96 ES300 (fancy Camry) and I traded it in with 310K miles on it. Got $600 for it even. I think your Camry would be a good first car for some kid that wants to learn to work on cars. Hell, you can't break em!
If you don't want to keep it, and can't sell it. perhaps give it to someone in need. I bought a 99 V6 with a 5 speed for $250 back when I had to get my life back on track. I drove it for 2 years, and sold it for $150 to someone as a "endro racecar" at the local circle track. They ended up registering it and drove it until they blew the clutch at 450000 miles.
I have a ‘99 Camry too, I love this car and it’s the best car i’ve ever owned. I’ve only ever had to change the starter and oil changes here and there.

The list goes on. I eventually got a matching hood for it, threw some hubcaps on her, throughly detailed it & out and she was absolutely perfect. It feels good showing old beaters some love, they deserve it the most. I sold it for pennies a year or so later car. Even now, after owning my dream car I still think about it & regret selling her, knowing she wasn’t appreciated and is now probably scrapped. I’m sure I sound crazy, but I’m very sentimental with my cars and this camry reminded me of my first ever. If you get it you get it!

Yes even in Mexico these type cars are highly sought after . I would advertise it in a local Latino newspaper for some hard working immigrants that could use the car and be able to fix it and maintain it
Yours is nicer than my 97 Camry with 347k on it. Still runs like a top and is a very dependable ride. Damn thing fixes itself half the time! Excellent cars! Whoever ends up with yours will be lucky to have it.
I know a chick who has a 96 Camry with 143 thousand miles on it. And, she does run good. You could either sell your free Camry for a few dead presidents ( Bucks ) or just keep it. That's a hard decision though brother. Like I said they are good running cars and most of them go forever.👍✌️
I kept my 2000 Camry le 2.2 with 235k. Way better shape than that one. Just replaced all suspension, including rear arms, and bushings. New tie rod ends and lower ball joints. It's a spare now but a reliable one.
If the bodywork is OK then this car is worth fixing. This car was from an era when Toyota made indestructible cars. It may be old and worn but has a charm for being a true workhorse. Had an old 99 Corolla that had huge mileage and piston rings were worn so it burnt oil. Still runs though even with 200k miles on it. Neighbor who bought it uses it in countryside on dirtroads where new car would be getting dusty or muddy with occasional stone chip.
I do the same thing you do I get some cheep and some free what I do with them I put as little as possible to get it right for the next person and I give them away to a person or family in need of something. They appreciate it more then you know.
I currently daily it’s Honda equivalent. 2000 Accord EXL 4 cylinder auto. 306,500 miles, leaks oil from the rear main at an astonishing pace, trans shifts slow 1-2, interior is trashed, bottom of the drivers seat is complete duct tape, driver front window is inop and held up with duct tape, but it gets a-b with no complaints and still keeps up with 85 mph I20 Columbia traffic. I’d 100% buy that Camry for 500 bucks and get its usable life out of it.
Id rather pay $1500 for a old Camry than put a down payment on a new car. Hell the car I have now is a 1998 Honda Civic DX. Got it 13 years ago for $325.00 with only 85,000 miles in it. It now has 507,000 miles and still runs and drives just fine. It all comes down to being maintained.
You got it right Rabbit, no payments and at $1500 it may take a while to find one that's actually drivable right now, prices for junk are crazy, I can remember when I got a Gremlin needing work and saw one parked outside with no tags, so I asked about parts, I was told I could have the car for $50 and my pos and even get some parts from ones in the yard, I fixed a brake line and I had it a couple years
Give it a detail and just drive it and see how long it lasts! Not a bad thing to do and you could give updates on it. Love the videos and the Camry will always be good.
My plumber owns a 1997 green Camry and it is RUSTED BADLY from being a New Hampshire car and being a typical beater. It burns oil, door handles were replaced and it REEKS of cigarette smoke. BUT, it still drives great though (he does his own maintenance). It has well over 350K miles on it. And his mother has a 1999 Chevy Malibu that has tons of milage and is cosmetically ugly, but it run marvelous (I owned a 6 cylinder 99 Malibu and they are comfy, fast, and reliable).
For UA-cam. Maybe show it some love? I think it will easily go another 200,000 miles. Junk yard fender and hood, maybe partial interior swap. New tires and rims! And maybe cheap re spray? I know I would watch! These are such good cars. I know it’s not worth all of that, but in some ways, it is.
I think a car like this would be an OK winter beater. A loaner vehicle, or maybe use it like a golf cart on a farm. You could also do a video where you drive it, as-is, across country and see if it can make it!

i have a 2001 camry with almost 275,000 still runs great and have had it 9 years fixed the normal stuff and just keeps going they are great cars and the paint is still on it.
Jay, seeing all that works on this car and the fixes you did on it, if you'd get the tires to hold air I'd drive it home for the full $500, probably $600 if you've interior parts and miscellany, I'd love take this home as a sweet little beater for work. If you're Smart, scavenge a few bits and fix the tire leaks, spray some on the seat guts to make it work, and hubcaps 4 of whatever and put it on Craiglist and offerup for $1200 to $1500, in the market where people snap em up supposedly, up north in Cleveland area I just bought a decent quiet good riding car for $1500, it came on the market after 2 month of searching up to $2500, I took an hours drive to Akon oh to a body shop with side gig of selling used cars, I saw the 2010 Dodge Avenger in above average condition with 240,000 miles a lifter tick with a very minimal body rust and clean underide shown in vids, I took it on the freeway one exit and back, slight trans pause before shifting, but hit 70 no problem and swear I got 37mpg, with stop and go 23 mpg with it's little 2.4L and 4spd auto, yesterday after a couple short freeway runs about 30mpg and I'm very happy and thinking about taking it on a trip, right now Jay I'm looking for small truck like a ranger, 4cy or 3.0 6cyl and manual trans, or a ford escort manual trans hatchback, as for more unusual a chevy luv truck or a gremlin, both standard, cause it gives you more power and better handling and better mpg, I know you're not Santa but you might come across one of these, and Jay thanx for sharing with us, and you ever check out coldwarmotors, Scott is savior of unknown classics and some that are cars many of us grew up with and enjoyed

I guess people must be kinda cheap in your area when it comes to buying cars, here in Florida you can get $500 all day long for ANY running and driving vehicle, even one that needs work. But the one thing that will definitely keep you from selling that car is the disgusting interior---I'd clean it up, reglue the door panel cloth that's falling off and ship it. I'd ask $700, knowing that they'll wanna talk me down to $500
Make it a go get parts from the parts store or if someone needs a car to drive when theirs goes in the shop use that one you know no one will steal it 😂
My camry is on 800000 miles and still runs so smooth. It was used roughly for almost 12 yrs by my father for work. I am planning to restore it now. Its a gem of a car.

Here in south bend indiana Camrys like that with same miles or more go for $2-2800 all the time on market place and they don't last long, So Jay I dare you really clean up the car and do a little bit of maintenance and you'd be surprised how much you will get. Diamond 💎 in the rough 👍
You could spend as much money as you'd want to on fixing it up and have more in it than it's worth. If it were given to me, I'd sort the mechanicals like you did, then clean it up really good and just drive it, and gladly. I wouldn't bother selling it. It's worth more to keep it around as a shop / extra run about than the time and effort in trying to get someone to give you 500 or 1000 or 1500 bucks or whatever for it.
If I lived near you, I would absolutely buy that. But getting it delivered would exceed the cars value. Might make a decent loaner car for your shop with some work

Old Toyotas never die. There is a 96 Rav4 in my driveway I got from my sister who got it from our mother when she upgraded to another Rav4. It now has 235000 miles on it. Leaks oil everywhere but the ground. Have to beat the shifter to get it to release from park, idles like a diesel. But it still runs and drives like a turtle with no speed. But it sure is fun on the two lanes to work. 😊 This Camry doesn't haveva price because its transportation that will never die and serve its owner well. Any lucky enough to get this will be happy to just have a set of wheels. 😊
Maybe an oil change and some Marvel Mystery Oil to knock out the valve clatter? Or a used cylinder head, if someone were to buy the car for little money. If one does much of the work fixing little things without farming it out, that could open things up a bit...

Nothing better than a Toyota or Honda I own both a Scion xb with 400k on both me and the old lady put 200 miles a day on both cars and we bought them with broken out windows and non running at the time a dealership got hit by vandalism and they were going out of business so we got them for a couple hundreds bucks each and there was four hundred bucks worth of parts in the back of one of them long story short a dam fine automobile we don’t even change the oils just add when needed .. good video Jay .. is there any new updates.. take care buddy
This is definitely a car worth restoring! It would take some money and work, but I bet it would look pretty decent in the end! If you’re really in luck, you may find a lower-mileage engine and transmission to put in it and it might drive better.
I would fix the basics up and either have it as a shop loner outer car or maybe give it away to someone that you or some of your friends think deserves it and can use it. many people are struggling now a days.
Just a suggestion jay, can you give it to a local vet or senior who is in desperate need of transportation? Maybe talk to somebody at your local VFW club, or etc. And definitely film it. I'm sure that somebody could use it for work or dr appointment.
My 98 Accord might not have a speck of paint on it and have been rear ended three times, but the interior is MUCH better and I have no mechanical problems. 317k
Makes me sad to see a 90s Camry in this state. My mum has a 97, sane colour, in perfect condition that she's owned since new. It's only done 110k and because they didn't sell very well here (UK) it's one of probably only 50 or so left on the road. Hers has the leather interior snd the V6 engine and everything works. In 25 years it's only ever needed service items and an exhaust. It's a pity they're not appreciated in the US but I know from my time there that they were ten-a-penny at one point.
@16:02 honestly 500bucks is a great deal for a person like me that can work on it myself and fix all the small things with a day at the junkyard and a day fixing it.. my only problem is I live in California so will it pass a smog check if not the 500 dollars car just bumped up to a 900 dollar car and will be at least a 400 a year car in just smogs checks from that point on...
That body condition wouldn't bother me as long as the engine and transmission work properly I like those cars that nobody else likes because it means you can get them cheap That car is perfect for somebody starting off driving
At this point I would just drive it until it dies or the transmission goes out if the small issues don't effect the engine and transmission I wouldn't worry about it
The Toyota Camry is one of the most reliable car i know of. I would just drive it and do normal services on it and if it just go too expensive to maintain then it's a parts car. Great video 😊👍

Working A/C, drives. Worth SOMETHING! What do I do with a rough but good running 84 Nissan Pickup with almost 400K miles? Engine was rebuilt but it was not worn when I did that. Has a header and a Weber conversion. Drives good.
I’d put a matching door handle on the drivers side, polish it up and maybe sell it for $500. The buyer might point out everything wrong but if you can still even get 400 or so it’s not a bad deal. It seems like a nice vehicle overall just old and tired.
I bet the woman who purchased a 1998 Ford Escort for $289 a month for 84 months would've definitely been enticed by this car before spending that sort of money.

I kept my 2000 Camry le 2.2 with 235k. Way better shape than that one. Just replaced all suspension, including rear arms, and bushings. New tie rod ends and lower ball joints. It's a spare now but a reliable one.

If the bodywork is OK then this car is worth fixing. This car was from an era when Toyota made indestructible cars. It may be old and worn but has a charm for being a true workhorse. Had an old 99 Corolla that had huge mileage and piston rings were worn so it burnt oil. Still runs though even with 200k miles on it. Neighbor who bought it uses it in countryside on dirtroads where new car would be getting dusty or muddy with occasional stone chip.
I do the same thing you do I get some cheep and some free what I do with them I put as little as possible to get it right for the next person and I give them away to a person or family in need of something. They appreciate it more then you know.
Offer it as a free courtesy car to your customers (once it's in a hygienic condition)
I currently daily it’s Honda equivalent. 2000 Accord EXL 4 cylinder auto. 306,500 miles, leaks oil from the rear main at an astonishing pace, trans shifts slow 1-2, interior is trashed, bottom of the drivers seat is complete duct tape, driver front window is inop and held up with duct tape, but it gets a-b with no complaints and still keeps up with 85 mph I20 Columbia traffic. I’d 100% buy that Camry for 500 bucks and get its usable life out of it.

Id rather pay $1500 for a old Camry than put a down payment on a new car. Hell the car I have now is a 1998 Honda Civic DX. Got it 13 years ago for $325.00 with only 85,000 miles in it. It now has 507,000 miles and still runs and drives just fine. It all comes down to being maintained.
You got it right Rabbit, no payments and at $1500 it may take a while to find one that's actually drivable right now, prices for junk are crazy, I can remember when I got a Gremlin needing work and saw one parked outside with no tags, so I asked about parts, I was told I could have the car for $50 and my pos and even get some parts from ones in the yard, I fixed a brake line and I had it a couple years
Give it a detail and just drive it and see how long it lasts! Not a bad thing to do and you could give updates on it. Love the videos and the Camry will always be good.
My plumber owns a 1997 green Camry and it is RUSTED BADLY from being a New Hampshire car and being a typical beater. It burns oil, door handles were replaced and it REEKS of cigarette smoke. BUT, it still drives great though (he does his own maintenance). It has well over 350K miles on it. And his mother has a 1999 Chevy Malibu that has tons of milage and is cosmetically ugly, but it run marvelous (I owned a 6 cylinder 99 Malibu and they are comfy, fast, and reliable).

I think a car like this would be an OK winter beater. A loaner vehicle, or maybe use it like a golf cart on a farm. You could also do a video where you drive it, as-is, across country and see if it can make it!

i have a 2001 camry with almost 275,000 still runs great and have had it 9 years fixed the normal stuff and just keeps going they are great cars and the paint is still on it.

Jay, seeing all that works on this car and the fixes you did on it, if you'd get the tires to hold air I'd drive it home for the full $500, probably $600 if you've interior parts and miscellany, I'd love take this home as a sweet little beater for work. If you're Smart, scavenge a few bits and fix the tire leaks, spray some on the seat guts to make it work, and hubcaps 4 of whatever and put it on Craiglist and offerup for $1200 to $1500, in the market where people snap em up supposedly, up north in Cleveland area I just bought a decent quiet good riding car for $1500, it came on the market after 2 month of searching up to $2500, I took an hours drive to Akon oh to a body shop with side gig of selling used cars, I saw the 2010 Dodge Avenger in above average condition with 240,000 miles a lifter tick with a very minimal body rust and clean underide shown in vids, I took it on the freeway one exit and back, slight trans pause before shifting, but hit 70 no problem and swear I got 37mpg, with stop and go 23 mpg with it's little 2.4L and 4spd auto, yesterday after a couple short freeway runs about 30mpg and I'm very happy and thinking about taking it on a trip, right now Jay I'm looking for small truck like a ranger, 4cy or 3.0 6cyl and manual trans, or a ford escort manual trans hatchback, as for more unusual a chevy luv truck or a gremlin, both standard, cause it gives you more power and better handling and better mpg, I know you're not Santa but you might come across one of these, and Jay thanx for sharing with us, and you ever check out coldwarmotors, Scott is savior of unknown classics and some that are cars many of us grew up with and enjoyed

I guess people must be kinda cheap in your area when it comes to buying cars, here in Florida you can get $500 all day long for ANY running and driving vehicle, even one that needs work. But the one thing that will definitely keep you from selling that car is the disgusting interior---I'd clean it up, reglue the door panel cloth that's falling off and ship it. I'd ask $700, knowing that they'll wanna talk me down to $500
Make it a go get parts from the parts store or if someone needs a car to drive when theirs goes in the shop use that one you know no one will steal it 😂
My camry is on 800000 miles and still runs so smooth. It was used roughly for almost 12 yrs by my father for work. I am planning to restore it now. Its a gem of a car.

Rust wise it looks pretty clean on the body - not sure about the underside. Pollen in early March?! In my area, pollen starts in at least two months! Air conditioning already? That more like something that starts in May for us!
I think you should paint it Black (or red) and put some cool hubcaps on it. THEN it would be a sweet ride. Maybe try straight-piping it too.
Fix a few things on it and then donate it to a family in need. It is again a Camry, so it’ll take care of them. Reliable transportation is something that can change the world for a family in need. You can even setup a go fund me of $500 to fix the car up
Here in south bend indiana Camrys like that with same miles or more go for $2-2800 all the time on market place and they don't last long, So Jay I dare you really clean up the car and do a little bit of maintenance and you'd be surprised how much you will get. Diamond 💎 in the rough 👍
You could spend as much money as you'd want to on fixing it up and have more in it than it's worth. If it were given to me, I'd sort the mechanicals like you did, then clean it up really good and just drive it, and gladly. I wouldn't bother selling it. It's worth more to keep it around as a shop / extra run about than the time and effort in trying to get someone to give you 500 or 1000 or 1500 bucks or whatever for it.
I have a 99 with 325k still runs like a top, mostly original equipment.

Looking at this in the 90’s. I wonder why would get this when you can get a Chevrolet Lumina instead. (If it’s brand new you don’t need to worry about it breaking). Reminds me of that blue Lumina/Impala video you did a while back.
Old Toyotas never die. There is a 96 Rav4 in my driveway I got from my sister who got it from our mother when she upgraded to another Rav4. It now has 235000 miles on it. Leaks oil everywhere but the ground. Have to beat the shifter to get it to release from park, idles like a diesel. But it still runs and drives like a turtle with no speed. But it sure is fun on the two lanes to work. 😊
This Camry doesn't haveva price because its transportation that will never die and serve its owner well. Any lucky enough to get this will be happy to just have a set of wheels. 😊
You could give this Camry to a student that helps out in your workshop - at least 8 hours. ;)
Maybe an oil change and some Marvel Mystery Oil to knock out the valve clatter? Or a used cylinder head, if someone were to buy the car for little money.
If one does much of the work fixing little things without farming it out, that could open things up a bit...

Nothing better than a Toyota or Honda I own both a Scion xb with 400k on both me and the old lady put 200 miles a day on both cars and we bought them with broken out windows and non running at the time a dealership got hit by vandalism and they were going out of business so we got them for a couple hundreds bucks each and there was four hundred bucks worth of parts in the back of one of them long story short a dam fine automobile we don’t even change the oils just add when needed .. good video Jay .. is there any new updates.. take care buddy
This is definitely a car worth restoring! It would take some money and work, but I bet it would look pretty decent in the end! If you’re really in luck, you may find a lower-mileage engine and transmission to put in it and it might drive better.
I would fix the basics up and either have it as a shop loner outer car or maybe give it away to someone that you or some of your friends think deserves it and can use it. many people are struggling now a days.
Just a suggestion jay, can you give it to a local vet or senior who is in desperate need of transportation? Maybe talk to somebody at your local VFW club, or etc. And definitely film it. I'm sure that somebody could use it for work or dr appointment.
I say give it to someone who either needs it or someone who would like to have an extra car around to learn how to fix it themselves.

My 98 Accord might not have a speck of paint on it and have been rear ended three times, but the interior is MUCH better and I have no mechanical problems. 317k
Makes me sad to see a 90s Camry in this state. My mum has a 97, sane colour, in perfect condition that she's owned since new. It's only done 110k and because they didn't sell very well here (UK) it's one of probably only 50 or so left on the road. Hers has the leather interior snd the V6 engine and everything works. In 25 years it's only ever needed service items and an exhaust. It's a pity they're not appreciated in the US but I know from my time there that they were ten-a-penny at one point.

@16:02 honestly 500bucks is a great deal for a person like me that can work on it myself and fix all the small things with a day at the junkyard and a day fixing it.. my only problem is I live in California so will it pass a smog check if not the 500 dollars car just bumped up to a 900 dollar car and will be at least a 400 a year car in just smogs checks from that point on...

$1500 PoS Camry is a major bargain in super expensive NJ. NJ loves Toyotas but a bad one can run over $3000.
That body condition wouldn't bother me as long as the engine and transmission work properly I like those cars that nobody else likes because it means you can get them cheap That car is perfect for somebody starting off driving
At this point I would just drive it until it dies or the transmission goes out if the small issues don't effect the engine and transmission I wouldn't worry about it

The Toyota Camry is one of the most reliable car i know of. I would just drive it and do normal services on it and if it just go too expensive to maintain then it's a parts car. Great video 😊👍
I understand some people don't care...but Jesus it's not hard to keep a car clean. I'm a mechanic and I'm always dirty, but damnit if my vehicles aren't kept clean inside. There's nothing like driving a clean car. My current suburban needs professionally detailed because the previous owners trashed it, but I've got it to the point where it's decently clean and I'll drive it
I have a 97 Toyota Camry LE v6 with 279,800 miles on it and it still runs great, no major leaks or issues other than it needs a new egr valve to pass smog.

Working A/C, drives. Worth SOMETHING! What do I do with a rough but good running 84 Nissan Pickup with almost 400K miles? Engine was rebuilt but it was not worn when I did that. Has a header and a Weber conversion. Drives good.
I’d put a matching door handle on the drivers side, polish it up and maybe sell it for $500. The buyer might point out everything wrong but if you can still even get 400 or so it’s not a bad deal.
It seems like a nice vehicle overall just old and tired.
I'd give it a little TLC and use it for a general purpose run around car.
