  • This one goes out to everyone in the FWD GM group. Thanks for the peer pressure that led me to buying this “Buick” or what’s left of it.

    That right there is a fantastic _Detroit Special._ Most of them have rusted into oblivion now, but there's still some here in Michigan. Shoot, somebody who's either desperate or doesn't care would buy that up here in a heartbeat!

      Yeah I still see a Century/Regal on the road here and there in the Detroit area - NONE of these have rocker panels anymore up here and I'm sure the subframes are dangerously rotted on most of them too lol. This one even beat up like it is seems like it deserves to live just for being rust-free.

      Rust free or not doesn’t determine how many hidden gremlins this thing has. It’s shot. My monte carlo was the same way. Beautiful engine but transmission was going and the break line exploded on me trying to back out of my drive way. Not to mention the interior was busted up from the previous owner and the body as well. It was a true lemon but man i really do miss that baby.

      @Stressless2023 Рік тому

      @@Lunar_Capital When you live in the rust belt state you'd be surprised at how important AND desirable a rust-free old car is - Brake lines like your car needed is typically not a factor on non-rotted vehicles like this one, that's something we deal with up here on rust buckets, along with rotted subframes which DOES make a car junk - The body being beat up would be a small price to pay for having a CLEAN cheap hooptie that runs well.

      I actually do live up in the rust belt, up in MA to be exact and yes my monte suffered from not only the dents and pathetic blue spray bombs to cover up some odd damage in one side. If you really would want a clunker such as this one just because of the rust free feature the by all means go for it. I just would stay away from this car for being a daily rotted or not because of the laundry list of problems (and probably more to come). At least the great thing about a rust free car you don’t need to wrestle with rust fused nuts and bolts.

I couldn’t bear to watch him hook it the the truck …with a wrecked front end and no doors on the driver’s side that we harvested for the replacement ‘03 Passat I bought to replace it. Just a sad day. But, hey! I sold it scrap for more than I bought it for (with a broken timing belt) originally. So that’s pretty good. And it kept my boy and his friend from safe in the wreck! It was the car that kept on giving.

    @3:41 when you say sell it as a cash special... honestly brotha there are people like me that just need a vehicle to get around in until tax time and if I seen that car on a lot as is for 6 or 700 bucks It would be gone in a few days. Most of us that live paycheck to paycheck can find a way to get 600 bucks together, either borrowing the money or even pawning some stuff to get up to 600 back is easier than trying to someone to finance us for a couple Grand even. I hate to say it but Those guys are right. Just put a set of good used tires on it.
    Just make sure the person knows it's a as is sale no returns no way to sue you... sh!t I would buy something like that for my kids as a first vehicle if they F it up anymore than it is what's it gonna hurt?

No fix and flip on a junker that old and rough. You’ll donate all your repair labor and at least 3/4 of the money you’ll spend on parts trying to flip it.

    I know a guy that'll drive hundreds of miles to buy a good 3.8. He thinks it's the best GM engine in decades. But does anybody want or care about that 3.1? Dunno. I'm with you that 500 bucks, earning maybe a few hundred net, ain't worth the headache or the damage to your reputation.

    nope, definitely not worth fixing. take what parts you can and let the junkyard have its way

    Unfortunately jay, its not worth anything. However, those were really good cars. I drove an 03 for years, it had 278k miles on it, i gave it to my brother and he drove it awhile until the dash started blacking out and he junked it.
