A Kindle with color is definitely a niche market, but personally I would opt for it over a tablet screen any day. Working remotely at a computer for 8 hours a day really puts strain on my eyes and as someone who suffers from frequent headaches the e-ink screen of a kindle is a huge relief after 8 hours of bright light from a screen. If I read comics/magazines more often and if I didn't have a Paperwhite already I would have absolutely jumped on the Colorsoft. I'm glad it's an option and hope battery life improves even more in future iterations so I can justify an upgrade.

@milyypink Totally understand! I don't work on a computer so reading on the Fire doesn't bother me. I didn't like it without the matte screen protector though. That really makes it look more like an ereader:)

I've been using the Kindle Fire 8 as an ereader at home for quite a few years now. I even bought a Fire 7 a year or so ago to take to the office or wherever. @DanielCho1997 Because it's a device you can download ebooks on and read in color. An iPad mini is so much more expensive. Also, my husband works in tech and is very anti apple. I'd get a Samsung if I wanted to spend that kind of money.

If anybody out there is even thinking about replacing an e-ink device with an LCD or OLED: Try reading books on your phone. And if that sucks, I guarantee you it will suck even more if you've paid 50 bucks to get the same disappointing experience on an even bigger screen.
E-readers are a product category of their own for good reason and claiming that a tablet can replace them is at best misleading. But welcome to the "get clicks by mentioning the Colorsoft" train!

@markus30000 I absolutely can not read on my phone, but reading on the Fire with the matte screen protector is really nice. I love my Paperwhite, but since it doesn't allow Hoopla or Scribd, I love having the Fire. I read on it mostly in bed, in the dark, and it has a blue light filter. I don't get any eye strain. For me, it's totally worth the price. I have lots of videos talking about my ereaders. I have a paperwhite, a Boox Palma, and the Fire. I love them all for different reasons.

@SvetlanaPetrov21 What I said is that e-ink is the superior display technology for reading and I stand by that because it's true.
I never even mentioned eye strain, blue light, apps or affordability. Throwing these things in here is just an attempt to obfuscate my point (and evidently it's working, because you're picking up on it).
She could have proposed an alternative to a Kindle years ago, no need to tie this specifically to the Colorsoft. So yes, it is bandwagoning.
To keep buying is not bandwagoning though, it's consumerism. Also not good, but something entirely different.

@shanenokes1170 They are different. The Fire allows you to upload all of your favorite reading apps, which is my top priority for a reading device. It also allows to to continually scroll, which the paperwhite does not. Some people prefer that over page turn. Reading on it is no problem with the matte screen protector. I have sensitive eyes and can't read on my phone, but have no problem reading on the Fire.

Thank you! I just traded in my kindle for this option. I hate reading on the kindle, it doesn’t let you continuously scroll and there’s a bright flash every time you turn the page, it drives me nuts so I just put it in the drawer and forgot about it. There are many times I want to read at night in bed but my phone and iPad strain my eyes too much. I think this will be a great option for me. I got the clear case too, I can’t wait to make a cute custom backing for it like you did. I’ll have to go back and rewatch your tutorial on how you do that 😍

@racheldunlap5406 Thanks for your comment, I hope you love it! I didn't mention it in the video, but it also has a blue light filter setting on it, that's perfect for nighttime reading! I also read in bed and I haven't needed the filter. I just turn the brightness down. But it's good the option is there:) Did you get a matte screen protector too? That really makes it more like the ereader screen.

Thats awesome to know there is a blue light filter option, that will be very helpful! I did buy the matte screen protector as well, I wanted to make it as easy on my eyes as possible. Thank you for recommending that. Now it just needs to hurry up and get here in the mail so I can start using it 😅
