I’m doing a 5 gal bucket, 2 inch pvc pipe, thrift store plastic bowls and canned fill foam to secure it all. Maybe 4 holes drilled into the bowls for tie down.

Not sure where you are located, but are you in an area where the cover sees snow? If so, how well do these hold up to the weight of snow?
Don't do testing in snow, but I imagine they hold up well. The only issue could be the base sliding out if the deck is slippery.
