Just what I need my whole life
You can use 4 or 5 foot u-post that's what I used to make mine and they work great!!!
Nice idea. A couple of suggestions ….. Stainless steel bolts and use wing nuts vs lock nuts. Much easier to disassemble for storage
Great suggestion!
Awesome rod holders! Gonna make the same. And kudos for getting your son involved! God bless 🙏
The two thumbs down were entered by the home offices of Academy and Bass Pro Shops.🙂
This is exactly what i was looking for!!!
Brilliant, Will be building me a few myself. Great job including the youngster
Thank you for the video this was very helpful and I just put together 4 also myself. These type of videos are the best. Knowledge gained !!
Great idea and video. Stainless carriage bolts instead of zinc would be the only minor improvement. Thanks for the great project!
I totally agree. Thanks.
Nice job on the rod holders. I have the exact same work gloves, my velcro sucks as well lol. Cheers!
Cool deal I love seeing the kid’s working with their hands good luck to y’all I’m headed to Duck obx in September and need some rod holders I like yours
Excellent video.
Excellent memories for you both also
Very informative huge help
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Great job and helpful boy
Thanks Andrew. My boys are very helpful. They each made their own rod holder with little help from me. Hopefully, it will last their lifetime and have memories making it with me. Rod holder is perfect length. It holds my 11 foot surf rod with no problem.
@@masterofnone7243 I was debating buying the fish-n-mate 38.00 one. SoCal sand is pretty packed and seems like I need a foot press wings
@@andrewcpham Since my surf rod holder is long and sturdy, I am able to wiggle it back and forth in the sand and get it down about 10 inches. You could probably bolt on a foot peg such as this one (Just one), if you still need one.

Wrong drill bit, but nice video anyways
As a newbie is this method better than all pvc? Is the metal easier to drive in the sand?
Yes. I believe it would be easier to drive into the sand. I drive into the sand by wiggling it back and forth a few times. It is super stable. Never had my rod holder fall over.
Isn't the metal portion too short? I have been told that 36" should be the minimum you should have or you risk having a fish pull your rod out of the sand.
I normally can only drive the stake into the ground about 18 inches. I have not had any problem with staking pulling out or falling over yet.
where did you buy the Aluminum?
I bought my aluminum on ebay. Although, I have seen the aluminum being sold at local Home Depot store.
how much did it cost? i know its like $50 at walmart
@@Yepzter I paid exactly $24.44 on Oct 18, 2020. Aluminum Angle 1/8 In x 1-1/4 In x 8 Ft Length Unpolished Alloy 6061 90° Stock
