Perhaps I hear it differently. She seemed comfortable enough telling the story. She stumbled a bit trying to find decent language to discuss the indecent proposal. She knew she did the right thing, ultimately, which makes it an easier story to tell. I also got a sense that she doesn't want to be treated as a victim or pitied. She just wants people to know, so people understand what an institution in Hollywood the casting couch actually is, and why those who abused it should be held to account. Maybe we're both right to a point?
When Goldie threw her head back, it reminded me of her Laugh-in days in the Sixties where someone told her a joke and she burst out laughing. Those were precious moments.
This makes me respect her so much. Not only for not selling out and selling her body, but her having that kind of character and strength. So many women just give in because they want the job or they are too scared to say no. What an amazing woman.
There are generational differences too that caused many women back then to be compliant to men, especially those in authority. Oddly, at the same time, we were also taught to protect our virginity until we married.
@@thatsixtiesgirl7809 Yes - back then the term ‘dating’ did not mean sleeping with. It meant going out & being courted. Only the loose, lowlife girls had sex back then.
@@thatsixtiesgirl7809 , women were taught to have scruples back then as well, unless the parents were like that. I can't stand when people said "that generation". We had integrity back then, too. Also, absolutely nothing wrong with flirting. People need to stop confusing the two. And nothing wrong with saving virginity for serious relationships only.

And how many years later ? And this still happens and it doesn't matter what gender you are or what age you are and it still happens and everyone in Hollywood are silent about it. And the ones who try are threatened
Wow Goldie. That is quite a story. Amazing. You were so lucky to get out of both those situations. You really had a good head on your shoulders. Bless your parents, because they prepared you to survive Hollywood. Thank you for this interview. Really powerful.
For the younger generation, Al Capp was the cartoonist who wrote/illustrator "Lil Abner and Daisy Mae". He had a mad crush on Jackie Kennedy...I can see why he was in- fatuated with Goldie, she resembled the beautiful Daisy Mae.. In fact, I saw a photo of Goldie dressed as Daisy Mae in a Movie Magazine once. These big shots had/have a tremendous sense of entitlement. I went through this with Publisher/author Norman Cousins in 1971 in his AZ home. TREMENDOUS SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT! He too, told me off after I rejected his advances.

I loved Goldie Hawn from the time I saw her on Private Benjamin ❤️ I loved her in overboard .. and I loved Kurt Russell in Quest and everything else he’s done 👋❤️
I walked into the lobby of the Mercer Hotel in New York in 2002 with friends. We were headed to the bar. I saw Goldie Hawn sitting with a small group of people. I noticed her because it was so loud! Goldie and her daughter Kate Hudson were face to face and were engrossed in animated talking. I mean they were both talking over each other, at the same time, really loud! They were also giggling and not listening to each other at all, but having a great time waving their arms around and laughing really loud. I’ve never seen a mother and daughter so alike! It went on for ages. No one could have interrupted. It would have been impossible!
I love that story! It’s horrible for sure but Goldie was able to show who she REALLY was! What a wonderful example for young girls to follow! Thank you for sharing this Goldie and Meghan.
Her and Kurt Russell are the American couple treasure. I'm not sure if they have finally tied the knot or not but they are a very inspirational couple when it comes to a view of staying together through thick and thin.
Congratulations Goldie. You could have been another traumatized victim that became an alcoholic while running from the trauma and trying to rediscover themselves. Morals do matter and God eventually rewards those that choose the right path.
@@srdfb2260 as a victim myself, I disagree. There is a difference between recalling it and having the memory of it vs. being traumatized. Traumatized to me says someone has chosen to continue to live as a victim. That gives the perpetrator continued power. A traumatized victim is something I refuse to be. I doubt Goldie would want to be looked at as a victim either. I certainly don't perceive her as a traumatized victim at all. I see her as an incredibly strong woman like many others who went through something horrible and came out stronger for it.
Since I had been a lil abner fan as a child, I was shocked to hear Hawn's story. Apparently Grace Kelly's biographer wrote a similar story. Interesting and insightful: In August 1919, at 9 yrs old, Capp was run down by a trolley car and had his left leg amputated above the knee. Capp was not prepared for the amputation beforehand; having been in a coma for days, he suddenly awoke to discover that his leg had been removed. He was eventually given a prosthetic leg but only learned to use it by adopting a slow way of walking which became increasingly painful as he grew older. The childhood tragedy of losing a leg likely helped shape Capp's cynical worldview, which was darker and more sardonic than that of the average newspaper cartoonist. "I was indignant as hell about that leg", he revealed in a November 1950 interview in Time magazine. "The secret of how to live without resentment or embarrassment in a world in which I was different from everyone else", Capp philosophically wrote (in Life magazine on May 23, 1960), "was to be indifferent to that difference." The prevailing opinion among his friends was that Capp's Swiftian satire was, to some degree, a creatively channeled, compensatory response to his disability.
I grew up watching Goldie on Laugh-In. I've always loved self-deprecating humor. It shows intelligence. And Kurt has been blessed all these years. Their line of work demands allot from couples, which explains much of what goes on in Hollywood. I admire their tenacity in marriage by their fidelity to each other. They may be listed as partners, but c.3800 years ago, marriage was establish when Rebekah went into Isaac's tent and that night they consummated their union, and thus, in the eyes of Heaven they became husband and wife-and were true to their last breath.
I have always wondered what is marriage in God's eyes ? Is it a signed piece of paper and a ceremony with witnesses or is it a devotion that two people have for each other that is never ending? I personally believe it is an undying love and devotion that two people have for each other and God knows that with or without a piece of signed paper.
Goldy Hawn is one of my favourite female actors since seeing her in Laugh In, and all her subsequent movies, and her story makes me appreciate her more.
Most women I know have some kind of story like this. Some were badly hurt and others escaped to tell the tale but all are traumatized by the experience. We have to support others, regardless of how their story played out because it’s all awful and damaging, even if you got out safely, because it’s a dangerous situation and there are many possible outcomes. You can’t be expected to handle it perfectly or be prepared. It’s frightening and you just have to do your best to get out alive whether you came out a victim or a badass. 💪

Except I question the "panda" picture in the background. I hope it doesn't mean what I think it does.
Scrape off that make up and you will see that she is a wrinkled person just like everyone else.
@@r.tothea.tother.4221 I too, questioned the panda. These people don’t get where they are without doing some crazy stuff…
If you believe that…
@@r.tothea.tother.4221 Guess I'm out of the loop. What is the significance of the panda?
I didn't think I could love Goldie Hawn more but I do. She is wonderful ❤️
Hey Diane! Apologies for dropping this here I came across your UA-cam channel and I would love to know you better. I'm guessing you must be an honest person, because I always found your comments to be so nice and respectful. If it's okay with you, I'd love to be friend but if it sounds odd or embarrassing in any way please don't embarrass me by replying. Have a wonderful day, and keep sharing!

Hi
@@Broadtolove 怒らせてください
I can see the pain and embarrassement as she speaks. This behavior by ANYONE is unacceptable!!!
@@kma3647 Right! She doesn't agree with the MeeToo girls playing victim!
Goldie is tough, so if she wants to tell the story she will.
I see her pain too . . her lips must be killing her!! Ridiculous.
@@MrSticks9999 No. She is a religious woman and normally wouldn't speak ill of anyone.Capp was an even bigger a-hole than we knew.
Yeah, it's like it was matter-of-fact to her: "This isn't going to happen."
Goldie is a great story tellier. I would love to hear her tell more stories about her life and career.
I knew there was a reason I love Goldie .... you can see when people are genuine and good.
So proud of Goldie✨️and glad she made it without having to lie down!! She is a true Star🌠 and has brought us soo much joy🥰
What a great and inspiring interview. Much respect to Goldie. And thank you, Megyn, for not interrupting. Few interviewers can resist that today.
I love Goldie Hawn. This story explains how she was able to maintain an air of innocence throughout her career. She's just as beautiful now as she was in the 60s on Laugh In.
I definitely tear up when she said "I realized I need it my mom" ..great interview
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I lost my wife to cancer but one thing she always said was she knew I had a crush on Goldie. We often joked about it but after this interview it is no joke I LOVE GOLDIE!!!!!!!
Goldie Hawns laughter is infectious in a good way 🤣, amazing lady, much respect, beautiful heart
Goldie is such a great story teller. I was listening all throught out
Overboard is the best! I watch it all the time and it still makes me laugh:) you are a the real thing Goldie!
Absolutely one of my favorite movies!! I can watch it again & again... love Goldie, love, love, love Kurt (😁)....it always makes me laugh, smile, & cry!!
I just love Goldie. A ray of sunshine and her giggle. So infectious.
This was so. Good. I have so much respect for Goldie Hawn. What a Wonderful Human Being she is
She does everything just a little bit different... and clearly it's worked out well for her. Stay true to yourself and you'll have no regrets.
How can anyone not like Goldie Hawn? She's so genuine. I saw Sugar Land Express just the other night. Part of her daffiness was just acting but she invented a "type" and that's not easy to do. I can only imagine what it was like to act with Chevy Chase who everyone says is a complete jerk to everyone.
Chevy Chase is only a jerk to jerks. Just so happen there's a bunch of jerks in the business.

Nicely done interview. Appreciate Ms. Hawn's willingness to show her vulnerability. Love to you both.
She was taught at an early age “self-Respect” & had enough savvy to walk .
Yet STILL got roles.
There are women who DO sell themselves to try and get a role. Don't blame men for what women are WILLING to do...
Brilliantly done, Ms. Kelly. Ms. Hawn, your story and your retelling of it moved me to tears. God bless you both.
Goldie Hawn is a treasure to the history of actors. Love all she does. Her daughter seems to be following her foot steps. God bless her.
Goldie. You'll never read this, but even though I never wanted to be an actress, I have lived through experiences so similar to the story you told. I have had to fight to get away. So glad you had someone to take care of you. That was God caring for you even if you didn't know it at the time. You seem so sweet. I used to watch you on Laugh In when I was a little girl and I totally adored you.
Yes, sadly, incidents like this are not confined to show business.
I've always like Goldie all the way back to Laugh in when I was a little kid. Great story.
It’s so hard to believe that anyone who’s successful in Hollywood or Music isn’t corrupt. I hope Goldie is the good person she portrays.
Goldie H is amazing !!!! Even after all these years !!!! Saw her first as " Pvt Benjamin " !!!! 🥇🔝💯🏆⭐✨🌟
Me too. Loved her in "Pvt Benjamin"...she kinda inspired me to join the army ...
Goldie telling this story was truly very heartwarming, you could see she was living her memory. Happy she went on to be the success she became
I'm glad
He was likely infatuated with many many young starlets, like he said.
To clarify, he wrote and was the cartoonist for L’il Abner that was eventually made in to a very good and long running Broadway musical.
I just LOVE Goldie even more after this interview! I am saying prayers for her and her family, we need more Goldies in our entertainment industry, hands down!
Just goes to show, trust your instincts, don't give in to fear, and all will come good in the end 💗
Goldie Hawn has always struck me as the real deal. Kind, compassionate and firm in her beliefs. Just a good, decent and honest human being. The world is better with Goldie in it
What a great interview. A brave woman.
Your wholesome goodness paid off and shines through your roles. Love you and always have - I have watched Overboard probably at LEAST 70 times! You and your husband, Kirk, are two of the best!!!
Wonderful story, think about how many women didn’t get the opportunity to walk out.
And when they talk about it years later, they’re not believed by people like Megyn Kelly. Go figure. The comment section here is full of hypocrites.
@@biancabumblebee3340 the only hypocrite I see here is you, dear. Judging people you don't really know and thinking you can read their minds and know the intentions behind their comments.
BTW, if you knew anything at all, you would know that Megan had her own "casting couch" moment and like Goldie refused to be a victim. In fact, the man targeted her and unfortunately had the power to get her fired after she blew the whistle on him.
So stop judging people before you know actual facts, rather than putting someone down just because you have a different opinion about something else, for instance politics. Gee, why do I get the feeling that is the real basis for your snarky comment toward Megan. 🤔
Too many out there like you that attack people when you actually know zip about them. 🙄
They all have an opportunity to walk out...they don't. They stay and boo hoo later down the road. I love Goldie for her goodness and pure sweetness and the ability to just say No. She's a cut above the others.
Have loved Goldie since I was a little kid watching Laugh-In w/my parents... all the jokes going over my head I'm sure. Never heard this story. Life is crazy & she's amazing.
Wow, that is such a great story.....sad, but real life!! She pulled through amazingly well because she was strong and smart!!
I love Goldie ❤ I’m pretty certain I’ve watched all of her films. She is an icon and has that unique wow factor, like my other favorite Audrey Hepburn. There’s a natural playfulness in the way she portrayed her characters. Such a gem.
Hearing her account made me cry. Seeing the anguish that she went through.
I agree
Why? She isn’t crying.
I'll never forget her antics on Laugh in when I was a kid. She is one of the greats.
My heart goes out to Goldie Hawn.
My Goodness 24 hours of solid horror. Wow. What a dreadful experience but one which she has carried for decades as one can see the emotion still so fresh. Bravo Ms. Hawn you are an inspiration.
I pity the kids who long for that applause, the crowds of adoring “fans”,the $, . Fame is not what it’s cracked up to be. Cherish your kids, teach them they’re precious. Loved.
Well said Theresa! 👏👏👏👏👍👍💖💗
Amen. Protect the young and innocent at all costs.
GREAT STORY AND MESSAGE. "NOBODY KNOWS WHO AL CAPP IS." PRICELESS. THANK YOU BOTH FOR SUCH A GREAT INTERVIEW!!
When Goldie Hawn has been dead for as long as Al Capp has been, no one will know who she is either.
I always loved Goldie, she is one of the best.
I have always loved this lady! I remember Laugh-In very well. She was always so pretty, happy, bubbly and sunny. I also remember 1st movie I saw her in: Butterflies are Free. She was great!
I also LUV finding out now that even behind the scenes, she has always had the self-respect to hold her ground. I know it wouldn't have been easy.
Thx Megan for bringing this to us, and Thank You Ms Hawn for your contributions to happiness & entertainment in our world. 💓🖒👀
This is just. so. sad. Because you know that for every Goldie Hawn's that had the gut to say no, there were a handful that just hadn't, and are living with the god awful trauma to this day.
I ❤ both of you resilient women. 19 seems to be the magic number for perps. Young ladies are going places alone at this age and that’s why they’re hunted and preyed upon. My prayers are of relief. You both weren’t completely unscathed but you lived to teach others!❤
I loved Goldie Hawn from the time I saw her on Private Benjamin ❤️ I loved her in overboard .. and I loved Kurt Russell in Quest and everything else he’s done 👋❤️
Goldie Hawn is brave and strong! A true gifted, legend! God bless her and her sweet family!!

Wow! Goldie is such a gem. Love her. What an awesome interview.
That's it! I'm going to go watch Overboard now. Goldie & Kurt are awesome!
I'm truly happy that you stood your ground Goldie. God bless you sweetheart.
I love that story! It’s horrible for sure but Goldie was able to show who she REALLY was! What a wonderful example for young girls to follow! Thank you for sharing this Goldie and Meghan.
Hello Jenny
How are you doing today?
Her and Kurt Russell are the American couple treasure. I'm not sure if they have finally tied the knot or not but they are a very inspirational couple when it comes to a view of staying together through thick and thin.
@Sara Mill my Cheerios will never taste the same.😞
They won't at least what Goldie said & there HAPPY & there luv shines... ✌

Wow! What a compelling story! Life is an amazing thing in both the darkest and lightest of times. I'm a fan of both you and Goldie. Great interview.
Congratulations Goldie. You could have been another traumatized victim that became an alcoholic while running from the trauma and trying to rediscover themselves. Morals do matter and God eventually rewards those that choose the right path.
Pretty sure she is an alcoholic too.
I wonder how many women went along with his routine, however reluctantly. But when you look at the trash our entertainment puts out, its no wonder this happens. The industry is run by creeps. You see it in the product.
Goldie and I are the same age. We’re both looking pretty good for 75 😁 I was a band singer in the 70’s. Never had this experience auditioning. That’s such a degrading thing to go through.
Seventy five is the new 30. Maybe Kurt's deep love ❤️ for her keeps her young. My ex hit the wall at 220 mph and the wreckage was so severe all the debris was vaporized and all her natural beauty was limited to a single photograph taken before she went full on Swede Savage in turn 4 at Indy.
If Kurt's 💕 remains strong for her she will age gracefully well into her 100s as she seems to be eternally beautiful and resilient

They had polygamy then..
Beautiful comment.
Wonderful interview. Goldie is fantastic. Always loved her.
