So with all the talk that Mac Jones could be a top three pick in the NFL Draft, I wanted to spend some time breaking him down in this video. Some people in the media are claiming that the 49ers really like him. When I watch him I can see why they do. He’s a very systematic quarterback. He’s the type of guy you can clearly trust to execute an offense. Mac Jones throws with good anticipation. He seems to have really good pocket awareness. And Jones' accuracy was really good in the short and intermediate passing game.
Now the question we have to ask, is that enough for a top 3 pick? Do those traits elevate him above some of the other QBs in this class?
In this video, I answered these questions. From my film study, how he deals with pressure and the lack of true top tier upside are the main reasons my answer is NO. Don't get me wrong, I do like Mac Jones a lot, but not enough to spend the third overall pick on him in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Sam's Draft Grade: Late First Round
Pro Comparison: Derek Carr - Both players have good accuracy. They both play with good pocket awareness. Both can climb the pocket well to stay in-rhythm with their offense and both were extremely productive in college. They both also have issues where they’ll stare down their initial read at times and neither quarterback is that good under pressure.

Love your videos man they're really informative. I've always felt like I had better control of a chefs knife if I hold it by pinching the base of the blade between my thumb and the knuckle of my pointer finger and letting the rest of my fingers wrap around the blade. It just always sticks out in the paid add lol.
@@1i1wayne1 I gotta try that. My knife game is a lot worse than my football game. Gotta watch some knife breakdowns to get it up there!
nobody should draft jones in round one
Hi! Are you a Seahawks fan?
@@siddharthvemula8829 he is a washington fan
Nice Breakdown i dont really watch colledge football but these are helping me understand the prospects more
Oh but the 49rs SHOULD draft Jones because that’s good for the Seahawks. They’ll have the worse QB in the division, even if he’ is a good QB. But seriously, great analysis as usual.
Hahhaa. I didn't want to expose that I'm a sleeper agent for the Seahawks this whole time.
@@SamuelGoldNFL agree great analysis! Jones seems like a poor mans Eli Manning due to that footwork and throwing motion.
Yeah I would be worried about Kyle getting a mobile QB too so he would destroy everyone. Fields / Lance and Shanahan would break the NFL.

EXACTLY! The rest of the league is just hoping the Niners will pick mac jones because they are petrified at the idea of Kyle Shanahan actually upgrading at QB.
Shanahan with Fields will give defensive coordinators nightmares

I am binging all these qb videos on my Saturday night and I couldn't be enjoying it more!
Trey Lance comes out this week too!!
Sam, been watching your videos for a while now and you have been making huge improvements in your presentation skills visually and speaking-wise. I think the analyses you have brought in these videos are great and I really respect your growth of this channel! Look forward to seeing where this channel goes!
Thank you man!! I really really appreciate it!
Schucks he's gotten a little better as everyone does, but always been great.
He is getting an OL that has been top ranked year in and year out.
Michael Scott voice : NOooooOOoOoOooOoO
Just to be ABUNDANTLY clear... I don't dislike Jones. In fact, i think he can be a solid starting QB. I just can't justify him in the top 3 picks due to the lack of true upside. I'm completely okay if you disagree with me on this, though! It's just my opinion.
I think Jones will do fine and be even better than Jimmy G under Shanahan but he cannot extend plays like Wilson or Fields. I guess the problem here isn't about his ability but whether he really worths 3 first round picks... Honestly, neither Fields or Lance worth the 3 first round picks too since they are more like boom or bust type of QB, but I might prefer Fields because of his upsides
@@makas01217 All great points. Agreed!
Just to be abundantly clear, you cherry-picked some bad plays from a single game and then spun a narrative that contradicts every other statistic that exists regarding Jones and his ability to throw accurately deep as well as throw against pressure. Well done.
Looks like the next Josh Rosen.
Duvallllll let's go Mac Jones back home
Please do it Shanny. I don’t want to see Justin Fields in that offense twice a year.
No GM ever trades 2 first rounders to draft the guy w no upside
It's kyle making the pick. Keep in mind, he isn't exactly the best at evaluating talent
@@ryu-ken ?
@@ryu-ken I guess Nick Bosa, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel were bad picks huh?
@@ryu-ken yes trade up for CJ Beathard
Cool Tom Brady got drafted at 6th rd.. it got Pats 6 SB.. so there is that
I don’t understand why everyone is debating wether hes better than the other qbs. Its not about that. Its that he better for 49rs. Hes a better fit. Everyone saying “hes not a top 3 pick” that makes no sense cause that pick was traded to get, if they were 12 and picked him theres no difference to that and 3. If theres a guy you want to be your franchise qb you dont wait for him, you dont hope he’ll be there at that pick, you go and get him. It doesn’t matter if hes a “top 3 pick” because hes the number 1 pic for the 49rs. If hes the guy you want anyways it doesnt matter if your getting him at the end of the first or the 3 pick. Hes the man you want GO. GET. HIM
To me more than Carr he reminds me Matt Ryan, and I understand why Shanny likes him so much.
@@AD-ur1fk i disagree. Jones can postsnap read. Truby after 4 years can't

Can’t wait to come back to this video in January lol
I'm not a Jones fan but this video is pretty bad.
You cherry picked videos of pressure when he showed on film multiple times that he can throw in the face of a defender. Literally all of the bad plays you showed are from the same game, if we're gonna judge a prospect by their worst game than Fields vs Northwestern means Fields is undraftable.
You talk about Waddle saving him when Waddle barely played last season due to injury.
Some of your analysis on specific plays is really bad here, take the play at 5:55, he's got Smith 1-on-1 with a backpedalling safety, he absolutely shoudn't go to the (covered) backside receiver, what the hell? That play was an easy TD if his OL gives him an extra half second.
Mac JOnes is a second rounder so the 49ers should take Wilson or fields depending on who is available
The people who say he’s a second rounder are the people who didn’t watch him play and only go off others word of mouth. He’s got superior pocket awareness and decision making than fields. That doesn’t make him better than fields but it shows how close he is to elite. foh clown ass

Really interesting to go back in time to see what things were being said about players before the draft. Through 10 games of the 2021 NFL season Jones is very solid and could potentially be ROTY.
I’d say that he’s probably a top 12 QB in the league right now, and has had the best start out of the 5 taken.
Future seems bright in New England. Good times.
Mac Jones sucks and was benched . The Pats are looking to move on
@@KamuiCage Yep, he really went sideways. Man, funny reading this a few years later... The Patriots have been quite a train wreck.
@@albertastro3761 they defiantly have the writing was on the wall for Mac jones to be honest I know its 3 years later but there were signs. He never had an ideal body for a qb in the nfl he's not tall and he's kinda pudgy. He lacks the physical talent to make down field throws and fit in throws into tight coverage and between defenders his arm strength was a joke. In college he played with so much talent he was throwing to guys wide open a lot. Sad to see what happened to him after his good rookie year but its not shocking.
@@jasonj5292 Completely agree. Year 1 was promising, but at the same time, we saw some of those flaws rise to the surface.
Year 2 was an absolute trainwreck and by year 3 he was cooked.
That's the NFL I guess. Makes me appreciate the greats and how they're able to perform year-over-year.
Mac - has best completion percentage in NCAA
Sam - he's just not that accurate
He had the best WR in football, Has the best #2 WR in football, He has the best coach, he has the best literally almost anything.
@@MarcusHansen276 he had the number 2 QB for 4 games and Devonta Smith didn’t get open all by himself. Mac threw him open and got him open with his eyes a lot
@@magnificent7083 I’m not saying he’s trash. I’m js when you have the best team in the nation around you, I wouldn’t be trash either and can complete lots of passes.
Great breakdown!!!!! I’m so tired of hearing all the hype from the media!!!!!!
Let the hate begin!
Majority of 49er fans were upset when they drafted Lance instead of Mac.
Can't imagine they are any happier now l😆
No one wants Mac at 3 but the media.
rewatching after my patriots drafted him lol
Great, Solid Points!!
2:17 Jones deliberately held up his receiver to make a safer catch. If he leads him into the defender, it's a much more contested catch. That's elite level QB play. Apparently you didn't understand why he did that.
3:50 Jones had a better rating under pressure than not under pressure. The stats are pretty easy to find.
6:50 Jones rating on deep passes is actually higher than Fields.
You basically made a highlight reel of Jones' incredibly low 22.6% misses to try to make him look bad. Others may be more interested in how he got to his 77.4% hits. The answer is elite understanding of leverage in scheme, elite processing, and elite accuracy. How did he get to that? Off the charts football intelligence and insane levels of preparation and study habits.
That makes a QB a great pure passer.
Yep, this guy came in with a preconceived conclusion and cherrypicked film to try to justify it.
given everything ive seen here, fields is the pick for shanahan's offense; shanahan is gonna be scheming out all the plays, the qb just has to be consistent and deliver under pressure. nothing fancy is really expected of them but it would be a great plus. if fields has the leadership qualities that they need and doesn't lose his head, then nab him imo. if wilson falls past the jets, then could take him as well
The key is to find players who never get complacent. If you have a guy that’s going to get complacent after a pro bowl you’ve wasted a pick. You need somebody who is almost driving themselves crazy to be a better football player day in day out
Totally agree! Jones arguably proved that he won't get complacent at the next level in his lone season as the starter at Alabama. He played better and better as the offense evolved throughout the season. prosportsoutlook.com/pso-scouting-report-qb-mac-jones-alabama/
Lance Fields or Wilson a nobrainer
Are you doing trey Lance
Mac Jones is fine but top 3, delusional.
How about 15 to the Pats?
Big mistake if the 49ers do NOT draft Mac Jones. Much better against the blitz, pressure, pocket awareness, completion percentage, can make all the throws, better than anyone except Lawrence.
Hahahaha
As a Seahawks fan, I would love if the 9ers drafted Jones. He’s miles away from Lawrence, Lance, Wilson, and Fields
@@Sentient_Blob your saying he’s the 5th best QB in the draft and nowhere close to the talent of the guys mentioned above?
@@parkeranderson7155 we will see who gets the last laugh in a few years. Your talking to a guy who accurately predicted Allen and Herbert would be the best QBs coming out of their respective classes.
@@ref233 Yes, actually. He has significantly less arm strength and mobility than the top four, and he his intelligence is equal to or below every one of them. You predicted Allen and Herbert, both of these qbs were projects with good work ethic and massive upside. Lance, Wilson, and Fields all fit this category, and Trevor has the upside with less risk. Mac doesn’t have the talent, and his mental processing isn’t good enough to compensate
Cant blame SF if they go Mac, Fields isnt good either. The smart move is go Lance, let Jimmy play out this season, not like SF is competing this year anyway.
Wow...just, wow. What an absolute mess. You cherry-picked some of his worst plays and ignored the stats that clearly rank Jones as one of the best deep ball throwers in the draft. When presented with that same point by other commenters, you rush to give all of the credit to his receivers, nevermind the fact that he dealt with injuries this year at the receiver position that his predecessor, Tua didn't have to.
Same point about Jones vs. pressure. Jones ranks at or near the very top of the qb class when throwing against pressure.
lol he just said he sees Mac top 10-12 QB upside but can't justify a top 20 pick on him.
At 4:40 throwing the checkdown would be wrong!
He must throw the X with inside leverage and a momentum advantage against the Safety...
Easy TD!
Oh good call! At the time, I saw it as "i'm under pressure after not seeing this initial guy, I'm okay with the check down since he's right there". You are correct!
Good call man
Your first point is completely wrong. You say he does not handle pressure well. Here is the prospect's Qb rating when under pressure.
Jones:123.9 Fields: 54.1 Lance: 117.0
He is very good against pressure and the best rated against pressure out of the three Qbs who will be available.
He also hit on the deep ball very consistently in college. He also has the best Deep Pass QB rating of the three QBs
I don't see the comparison to Carr coming out of college at all.
If your only valid point you make in your entire video is that he has a lack of mobility. That isn't enough of a reason for me not to draft him.
That's literally the only argument against him that everyone tries to make. The ridiculous overvaluing of out-of-the-pocket mobility as if it's the only thing that matters in a QB. He beats Fields in basically every possible metric that exists except out-of-pocket mobility, yet everyone acts like Fields is the next coming of Jesus and Jones is trash. I keep saying out-of-pocket mobility because inside the pocket Jones' mobility and sensing of pressure is outstanding.
Yes I hope they draft him lol
They should draft Fields
Derek Carr a top 10 QB?????????
Gotta go with lance. 49ers said they want jimmy to keep playing and a developmental prospect.
Jimmy will be traded before season.. probably on draft day.... not good for the locker room. And when Jimmy messes up, you’ll be hearing everyone say get the rookie in!!!! They are not keeping Jimmy
Fields is better than Lance tho
I think he's a smokescreen because heven rappsheet says kyle told him yes considering taking him but yet hasn't told anyone on his staff but John and they talked about Maholmes type talent and that's not jones. It's a big reason theyll likely keep Jimmy if they get Lance who I think has the most upside compared to the rest he's got the special tools like Maholmes with a huge arm big body and very mobile dude runs like like alstot, they must love his tuffness and being hard to take down. I still am holding out hope for Wilson but likely a dream but he is the dream QB for Kyle and I know he's #1 probably over Lawrence with Kyle so I could see the move to #3 to try to get to #2 with a fat player/pick package that'll be hard to pass to move one spot cause nyj could still get a top QB, but if you followed the clues since they publicly sent scouts to Wilson's game at Boise they came back amazed plus Young has raved to Kyle about him and then they let with his top wr a couple weeks ago then right before the pro day made the trade but they didn't offer the Jets for one cause nyj wouldn't move back to #12 even with 2 future 1sts and miss on a QB, so they move to #3 show little public direct interest in Wilson but are in fact mutually in love with each other, so I'm thinking they had or have a plan to make a push for him or maybe Zach will pull an Eli and we heard as much from his agent so we moved up knowing he can't deny 11 teams but one is possible.
Too generous, 3rd round pick is McCorkle
It’s hilarious that none of the espn “draft experts” bring up the fact that Jones stares down his first read lmao
Dude I don't get it. Nobody really talks about it and he doesn't give up on it.
If my first read was DeVonta Smith or Waddle and my offensive line was 5 future NFL players, I would also just sit around and wait for them to get open.
I probably won’t go top 3 though
For real. And then they try to crucify Fields for it, when it isn’t even that egregious with him
And than they say Justin Fields can’t read defenses..
as a niner fan, i agree with your eval. at times he looks like another jimmy g or kirk cousins to me
If they didn't get Wentz already, I would love Jones with the Colts.
Patriots need to grad him. He’s a very Tom Brady esk player. Not very Athletic, but has good pocket presences and elite short and intermediate accuracy.
Your prayer has been answered nash 😀
The Haters Club. FTW It's Mac Jones!
It sounds about right I can’t see using a top 10 pick on Mac Jones
The myth that Derek Carr is not good under pressure is so hilarious to me in 2019 he was the 3rd rated passer in the NFL while under pressure in 2020 he was the 9th rated passer while under pressure so this myth to is just not true💯💯
I'm guessing you are basing this on CPOE or another metric? Per PFF, Derek Carr was ranked 17th out of 30 QBs with 100+ dropbacks under pressure earning a 49.9 grade there. His turnover worthy play % under pressure was 6.4% last year which is 4th worst in the NFL.
@@SamuelGoldNFL those numbers are wrong..I use the NFL Stats not PFF
That iron bowl he lost seems the most like what he will look like starting out
Someone send this Video to Kyle shanahan so he doesnt even think to draft him 🤣🤣
i can see him going to the steelers
exactly what I thought too, maybe also saints.
@@Deafsun they got jamies so probably not
Jones is elite on the long ball. Completed 58% of balls over 20 yds in the air---------- 25.5 yards per ATTEMPT. That is phenominal.
He also had two WRs that consistently won and were wide open. Stats, especially in college, are extremely deceiving.
@@SamuelGoldNFL so did Joe Burrow in 2019 and so did Tua.Both had way way way way more talent around than him. He had 1 damn 1st round pick consistently healthy cause Waddle was hurt and not himself
Tua had 4 of them-Ruggs,Jeudy,Waddle amd Smith. Also Damien Harris who is a top 10 Nfl RB and Jacobs who is a top 5 RBack in Nfl outside of Najee. You can pick and chose who you like and who you don't
And also vs Pressure in 2020 (Lance in 2019) the raating according to PFF under pressure was 129 for Jones,119 for Lance and 54 for Fields.Fields also only had 7 passing attempts all year long to recievers òther than the primary read.Again you are not being objective on Mac Jones
@@erikpuka2627 they really choose to ignore what he did on the field and give his success to everybody else but him but don’t keep that same energy for burrow Lawrence and fields like they were playing with scrubs
He has great receivers
@@SamuelGoldNFL I guess Fields' and Lawrence's and Burrow's receivers were just trash and none of them were ever open or great or going to the NFL. Hate hate hate this argument, it's really lazy because the people that use it turn around and praise the other guy that is working with the same or similar benefit
He gets scared under pressure kinda sounds like jimmy g 🤔
That why he Jimmy 2.0
Jake Bailey >
the Mac Jones nonsense has gotten out of hand!!! He's just fancy AJ McCarron
Ok I just looked at his highlights and he made a bunch tight window pressured passes. The deep ball will get better when he gets a chance to work on his mechanics with a professional throwing coach like Tom House.
Nope he sucks
i'll be happy if he has pick in 12 ou 15. but at 3 is huge reach
It's feel like it's a pretty tough argument for someone watching tape to post a video saying Fields is underrated and Jones is overrated (assuming he goes 3). Maybe I missed it, but I never once saw Fields make a single anticipation throw. He needs a receiver with real estate behind him and a step on a defender to even commit to releasing the ball. Nearly every pass play he made is the same vertical or post to an open receiver. He struggles on all the routine NFL throws and too often misses short range gimmes. If I am a coach, I can work with Jones. I have no idea what to do with Fields other than run the option and build a Baltimore style offense around him.
hopefully big mac aint on no Justin Herbert shit
Sam, how do your numeric rankings work? I enjoy the content and usually don't have much to add for these guys myself, but keep up the good work! I'll stay tuned in
I do weighted average skill sets. So I weight accuracy at a higher % than arm strength, for example. I've been adjusting them over time to try to make up for my misses in the past lol
There’s only 1 channel for QB breakdowns and that’s the QB school. If y’all wanna see a former NFL QB breakdown films on these guys go check him out!
Sam, love your content keep it going! How many weeks in a row have you been getting the BBQ burgers?!
I think Mac Jones is a smoke screen. They'll draft either Lance or Fields. I'm leaning Lance after his great Pro Day.
How is Mac Jones not that good under pressure? He had a really high Quarterback Rating under pressure. Dealing with pressure and blitz is one of his best traits! You cherry picked rare blunders and counted them as weaknesses.
Hmmmn
Mac Jones lack of mobility as a QB would scare me....that’s why I would rather have a Fields or Lance to give the Niners a dual threat QB which would really add a lot to Kyle’s offense.
When thinking about picking Mac Jones, he had 2 top ten WRs to throw to which one of them was the first WR to win the Heisman since 1991 plus Najee Harris at RB. Justin Fields did more with less. All the all stars OSU had for Dwayne Haskins to throw to were gone. Lawrence is still the best QB in this draft but Fields is #2 no doubt. Zach Wilson is an intriguing prospect but he is more of a project than Fields.
I think 49ers draft Lance
Any Bama Qb has the best atheletes in the nation around him, he's got a great line, great backs, and great receivers. He rarely plays from behind. I'd be more impressed with a QB on a lesser team. Belichick drafted Julian Edlelmen because he was impressed with his presence as a QB for Kent State while they were getting their ass kicked by Ohio State, he never showed panic, and kept fighting until the end.
I hate this argument. He _must_ be bad because he played with a lot of talent around him. He can't help that he had talent around him. That doesn't in itself make him any worse than anyone. I guess Joe Burrow should have been drafted 2nd or 3rd round because he had godlike receivers and a godlike RB coming out of the backfield as well. Also Fields and Lawrence should be drafted later in the draft because they have practically as much talent as Alabama does. Give me a break
He lost me when he said the LSU talent wasn’t on par with Bama’s this year. Chase is getting drafted ahead of Smith and Waddle and Justin Jefferson had a better rookie year than Juedy and Ruggs combined
He is a good fit for the 49ers. But taking him at 3? I don’t know about that! But let’s see what happens.
No matter who they draft they will have the worst QB in the NFC West
Ohio State loves Trevor Lawrence too.
Tell me this doesn't sound like a Patriots QB. I dare you.

Mac Jones or Justin Fields? Who should the 49ers draft? (You can also answer Trey Lance haha) - He's my next video!
Trey Lance or Fields definitely not Jones
To me, its Fields > Wilson (if he is there at #3) > Lance > Mac
@@dfoe108 exactly
@@game_theory2547 I think Fields and Lance have very similar traits and upside, but with Fields being more polished and Lance being more projection with his limited sample size. As a Niners fan I'd like either one of them at #3, but I'd favor Fields slightly. Also, Wilson's off-platform throws are just insane.
fields cuz lance is a mid first rounder and jones is a day two pick
Mac Jones makes sense because the 49ers need a QB who can play right away. While other QBs have a higher ceiling, Mac is ready to go now and the 49ers can't afford to wait with Jimmy Gs injury history. Plus, Kyle Shanahan and staff want to win now, Mac Jones gives them the best chance to do that!
They want to win now, but a guy named Stafford just went to LA and Brady is in TB. They will maybe be the 4th best team in the NFC, if they stay healthy.
Wouldn't he be good for the same reason having Kittle, Aiyuk and Samuel?
Good at stuff dude.. loved this breakdown. Niners are about to fuck up hard 🤣

To me he’s never going to be the type of guy to elevate an offense. He’s going to run an offense well but not raise it’s ceiling with his presence alone. To me he’s kind of a better jimmy g. That’s just off of a surface view though. Might be proven completely wrong

OK nice review. I got mac Jones for the Jets @2. Well, you and I know they picking Zack Wilson. Nice talk about what Jones does good. so I will only speak on your negativity.
OK, you didn't mention intangibles, like he was the number passing QB in the country in 2020. # 2 in passing TD and the #1 QB in passing TDs. Kyle Trask isn't even on your board so, for me that strikes at your credibility.
One negative was his mobility. I credit you with noticing mobility was not required to win last year's Super Bowl. See, you a young fella so I'm going to tell you a secret. the defense catches up to the offense. Like you saw Mahomes shut down last year, the defense caught up to him. Now the best of the mobile QB, Lamar Jackson, ever wonder why they can;t get to the next level. Team is great during the season, but when the playoffs start, all of sudden things not working right?
That's because the defense elevates during the playoff and unfortunately for the Ravens, the book is out on Harbaugh's offense, it is known, and it is defeated. so, there goes your big deal about the new class of mobile QBs. Cam Newton, made it to the SB once, last year in his agedness did not do well. He ran OK, but but he did not win up to expectations. Mobile QB, advanced class.
Most productive air teams in the NFL run a version of Air Coryell. You pointed out jones would be perfect for that offense. That is the offense the jets are running, or the modification thereof, I agree Jones is the one for their offense. The Jets like everyone else have been brainwashed.
Jones, Trask and Wilson in the order where the best QBs in NCAA !A football and T Lawrence was not even close in numbers, in TD thrown, or national championships, so how he got to be the Golden Prince of all QBs this draft if just a masterstroke of PR, as he is no whee near the best. what was he 12th in the nation in passing ? Did he even throw for more than 3,500 yards? Oh, but what wonderful golden flowing blond hair radiates from under his helmet.
I ask myself, why would Meyer take a guy from Clemson and not from Ohio State?
Let's get back on track. PFF has been growing in power. Nobody used to talk about or care about little nuances of the games like you explained. OK, the guy is not perfect, and he is like any other QB who has ever played in the NFL and made it to the HOF, he doesn't have blocking so he looks like crap.
Evidence Eli Manning. won 2 SBs, contract so big, couldn't afford protection, so guess what? A sSB winner soon looked more like garbage than the best in the league. No one ever points out that Eli was mostly in the top 10 of passing stats all those years the Giants were losing.
Eli was a winning QB, but without protection he was garbage. If you get Jones protection which he will have of the 49ers draft him, he will shine like the sun in his performance and will never see him be bad. Now if the Jets pull a trick and get him, hypothetically, we most likely will see the disaster you describe for him.
Trey Lance real quick. Very mature, half the battle. Saw a few games and his pro day. Solid, and big time. Very young QB, but QBs coming out today most are pro start ready.
Proof is Sam Darnold. Darnold never had a chance. Jets a bad football team and they had bad management and Darnold has had a different OC virtually every year, never had blocking, lazy and inferior WRs, dude was straight doomed.
Thinking of it earlier, it doesn't matter, as a QB he owns his record, and his seasons all of which have been below standard. We have people here on the east coast saying, with a new coach and staff and improvements give him a chance. Tell you something. Not much has changed on the O-line, they will get beat again this year and whoever is the QB will get smashed and run out of a successful offensive season.
Joe Douglas already has made the biggest mistake of any GM this season. He had a Super Bowl MVP QB on the roster and he let him go. Now if he had played him this year Sam could have sat and learned and took over next year. Douglas is a complete bonehead and he blew it as far as I am concerned and now he's going to blow it with his pick for QB.
He should get one of the two best, Trask or Jones. Trask is 6'5" an important advantage looking down field on the quick passes the quick play offense requires.
Do you know QBs can barely see over the line to make those short pass plays with 3 step drops? Defense is too strong, notice O-line backing up fast cutting distance the QB has mad eon his drop and they are doing it under 3 seonds. No chance on those plays with a line like that. been watching it the past 5 years and they haven't got it right yet.
Last thing, how bad are NFL front offices, there at least 15 teams with below .500 records in the NFL. Did you know that? There are a lot of pro football teams ain't getting it right. Players are doomed when they are drafted to these teams. That is fate.
Ask Sam, he of the $20M dollar signing bonus. No sympathy here.
Please review Trey Lance next!
0:44 "i will answer these questions at the end of my vid" well yes, bu no. u kinda answered it in the title :D
Idk how so many think he's a top 10 QB.
He’s a top 10 QB in this draft most definitely unless you mean NFL QBs
Worst player evaluator on UA-cam. Multiple interviews discuss macs so called stare down and it’s basically cherry picked to make a point in this video.
Mac Jones sucks
Kyle, are you listening?
He’s not as good as I thought
Jones needs to go inside the nfc east so there are two Jones qbs.
2019 LSU teams faced were almost all in win now years. 2020 Alabama had 99% of their players back and were ready to dominate in a off year with no other elite teams
That’s just wrong. Bama went undefeated against an SEC only schedule. They beat texas A&M, georgia and florida, all “win now” teams. In addition the bama offense demolished the ND and the ohio st defenses in the playoffs. LSU in 2019 had its toughest game vs bama and georgia was the only other quality win that year.
So the perfect comp really is Kirk cousins
Hey nice first name :)
We'll see if this video ages well for you, but I do appreciate that you're willing to put yourself out there and share your opinion.
You're videos are always top rate.
I do have to disagree with you a bit here though, mainly about one statement.
It's very unlikely that Shanahan would move up to 3 for Lance or Fields.
And unless Saleh has told him something about the Jets keeping Darnold, I'm suspecting it'll go 1.Lawrence and 2.Wilson.
So Mac Jones must be a guy they are very comfortable with at 3, or they wouldn't have traded all of those picks.
I think most of us have come to that conclusion, thus the video.
Of course it's possible the 49ers FO is making a mistake.
Since the trade, I started watching all the tape on Mr Jones.
Rather than assume they are overvaluing him, I was assuming that he must be better than I thought, despite looking and being a bit goofy.
I think the Niners like him because he is an obsessed football psycho, works hard to improve, makes good decisions, throws accurately with anticipation, and goes through his reads very quickly.
He's more athletic than people give him credit for, and his footwork in the pocket is nice.
He only started for 1 year, so even in the short term he should get a lot better with more experience.
The main thing I disagree with in your video is your statement saying his upside isn't as good as the other guys.
Maybe he'll never be as fast as Lance or Fields, but that's a different argument.
At this level, a QBs ceiling is being the greatest QB of all time.
Floor is being out the league in a few years.
QBs don't often reach their potential, but I wouldn't limit someone when they are very physically and mentally capable of being great.
It's very difficult to determine a player's potential from where they are at currently.
If you look at Aaron Rodgers in College, he didn't throw the way he does now. He improved a ton in his first few years in the pros.
Although he was really good, it was difficult to predict that he would get that good at throwing the ball.
Look at Tom Brady. He's proof that someone without elite mobility or throwing traits in college, can become a top5 QB in the league for decades.
Brees? Russell Wilson? Not many people thought they were going to improve as much as they did.
I think it's premature to say that his upside, ceiling, or potential is lower than anyone's just yet.
As far as the draft goes, the arguments should be how good is he right now, what kind of person is he right now, and how did he do with the situation he was given.
Right now he's a better thrower, decision-maker, and player than Lance and Fields, and its not close IMO.
Lawrence and Wilson can make more special throws, and are more athletic than Jones, but Jones is better at this point with manipulating defenders and making the right reads.
It'll be interesting to see how all of their careers turn out.
Traits like how hard you work, how obsessed you are with improvement, doing things the right way, those things translate well to vast improvement in any career.
I don't think Jones just benefitted from having a good team around him.
Dude was making tons of difficult end zone and deep shot throws all year and still ended up with a 77.4% completion rate.
Watching it more carefully, half of the time the receivers were so open because of how Mac Jones manipulated defenders with his eyes, shoulders and feet.
They were open because of him, they succeeded because of Mac Jones, not despite him.
The bad throws montage you had covered like half of those incompletions for the whole year.
Dude had some amazing throws throughout the year as well.
Anyways, no one probably cares what I think but those are my thoughts :)
I know you're not hating on the guy, and I wish him and you the best.
At 4:50 Mac Jones had a double post against what appears to be cover 3. Any reason why you said he should take the check down vs throwing it to the x?
Love your stuff as always
