Mark Knopfler is an incredible guitar player, he's one of the few that knows how to take you on a journey with just the volume knob , old school master 101.
A q
I can't tell you how gratifying it is to me that you two young musicians have the patience, the attention span to fully appreciate this song!
Romeo and Juliet Live is a must.
Yes, they don't play songs, they play stories. Tunnel of Love, Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in Arms, they all tell a story. You really can't go wrong with Dire Straits, they were consistently excellent. As for wishing that you had been born earlier, don't be so sure. There is a generation of musicians of your age that is starting to be noticed. For example, I suggest that you listen to Angelina Jordan, she just released a version of Suspicious Minds, as a tribute to Elvis Presley (the video is full of Elvis references, I don't even know how many, a lot) I mention her because; 1, she is a great singer, 2, she is 16 years old, 3, although she is from Norway she currently lives in LA (I think in Beverly Hills, you could potentially meet her) and most importantly, she has a little sister named Juliette. Please check her out, you won't be disappointed.
Absolutely brilliant song. The lyrics, the Instrumental talent, the interplay of the instruments, the changing moods and tempo. The song takes me from tears to air guitar and air drums. Easily my favorite Dire Straits song and I'm a fan of all their music as well as Mark Knopfler's solo work.
Great reaction. This is an epic song.
I am a 70 year old English woman and had the joy of seeing DS live. When my friend and I went this was their encore after a 2 hour concert. We lost our voices for a week and though our hearts, brains and ears would never recover. Spell binding xxx
Tell that story……I’m listening…..play that guitar… I’m listening! Nice! Appealing! Keyboard right on …..captivating! I like the way you all are listening so intently!
The man with a sack on his back is Henry Ford and the rest of the song is about the rise and fall of Detroit City USA including the Ford Motor Company.
It's about good times and bad and of course the words, music, arranging, singing and playing his guitar as only Mark Knopfler can, all his own work again.
The dirty old track became the Telegraph Road.
The mans a genius.
He's 72 years old now and semi retired..
My boy Carlos Santana had a scare last night. I prayed all night for his recovery. Thank you God! YEE!!
Our dad mentioned this to us... we too were worried.
Adult stuff. Really feeds the sense of beauty beyond mere glamour. Good for you!! I was about your age when I first heard this. Few things have been on this level later in my life. All you have to do know is listen to "Tunnel of Love" and "Romeo and Juliet" from this same concert to have a really good idea of just how monumental this concert was, and still is.
The lyrics always hit me hard. "All these signs saying 'Sorry, but we're closed'...." I hope you ladies work your way through this entire album. Every song is a powerhouse of words and music.
MK... WORLD CLASS GUITARIST... as Good as there has been.........
PS. Been a Fan of you two along time... Your observations... just get Better All the Time... your hearing things Ive never picked up on.... and IM OLD.... and have heard some of these songs you two cover for Decades... Good on Ya...Carry On... and Thank You!!!💙✌💚✌🧡✌❤
Woooooo great too see you 2. Great reaction.YEEE!🌹🌹
Telegraph Road live is ART!!!
Stumbled across this reaction because I grew up listening to Dire Straits, even had the pleasure of meeting Mark Knopfler when I was like 13... I still get chills listening to this live version of the song. It's amazing when you realize that the band was formed after Mark and his brother walked into a pub and heard a band playing and they thought to themselves, "I think we can do better than that." and the band was formed, Unreal!
It's great to see to young girls to you two getting so excited by Dire Straits, your right about the story aspects too, Mark is a master at those type of songs, please react to Tunnel of Love from the Alchemy concert next, the guitar outro is astounding, and the song is about his younger days growing up in Newcastle, England.
Thank you ladies
That was the encore!
You just can't follow it!
As I said in the Sultans reaction, I was there, the whole band were amazing, Alan Clark, keys, was the star of this performance, John Illsley on the bass was really enjoying himself so much. Hal Lindes back up guitar, superb. My favourite of the whole gig, apart from mark, Terry Williams on the drums!
I really enjoyed your reaction, I'll watch it again for sure!
Mia is right the music was better then, thanks for making me feel old! I was just turned 18 when I went to this gig, I think you don't appreciate it at the time so much, so thanks for reacting to it.
I still get goosebumps 39 years later!
YEE girls 😍 YEE Nation ❤️❤️Loved it great reaction. You girls are magic
Thanks for the heart girls ❤️❤️
Thanks for listening to this masterpiece ladies. I personally think Telegraph Road is the best song ever written. I listen to this song at least once a week, it never gets boring.
Kind regards from the Netherlands
Without a doubt, one of the best, and most articulate guitar players in the world 👍
I love this song!
Just brings tears to myeyes every time i watch and hear this great performance by yet another British band
This actually was the encore. The band had already been playing for about two hours when they pulled off this epic. What a band.
Girls, i'm old enough to be your grandad, and i've grown up with Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler.
It warms my heart to see you, not only enjoying, but also appreciating the pure masterpiece that not only Telegraph Road is, but also countless other songs of theirs.
Without doubt the most technically gifted band this planet has ever, or ever will, see.
Close your eyes and be carried along.....................
Basically I agree with everything you say, but I would definitely include Pink Floyd and Supertramp in the circle of the most technically gifted bands (and perhaps I'm overlooking a few others...). Still, Dire Straits are without any doubt top notch.
All the very best from Germany
@@robertgieseler1220 Kusura bakmayin ama bu kizlarin yorumu yanliz dire straits icin gecerli !!!
@@kakadu. I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're referring to.
Absolutely brilliant reaction to the greatest performance of the greatest rock song ever written in my humble opinion. You girls are way ahead of your years. Romeo and Juliet from Alchemy live is also Brilliant and a slower tempo. Tunnell of Love from Wembley live, I think in 1986, is outstanding too. Keep up the great work and thank you 😊. Best wishes from the UK.
Love how you two girls react so enthusiastically to the music of my time. Thank you.
It's not really about 'time' though is it ? l listen to Bach and Vivaldi with as much relish as Led Zepp and Fairport Convention. It sad modern music lovers have zero quality choices, faced with rap and Sheerhan to deal with but this Dire Straits song belongs to the past, present and future.
I’d recommend listening to Brothers in Arms (live version from the Mandela concert). A totally different vibe from this, but spine chilling emotion in the music and lyrics.
I glad you got to experience watching & listening to one of my favourite songs Telegraph Road, love your reaction as always. Alan Clark is an exceptional keyboard player.
If interested maybe also react to the song Tunnel Of Love from the same concert.
I still have wonderful memories seeing Dire Straits about 8 times in 1986, those were the days 😃
To see how versatile Dire Straits could be, try the COMPLETELY different "Brothers in Arms". It's beautiful and heart-breaking. Do give it a try.
It's the music that takes you on the journey of this song! Every player on this song has a turn to show how spectacular they are and how they merge together. You're so right about them taking their time and telling the story. The pauses and changes draw us in.
The 1980s were unmatched in terms of musical talent. There was a dedication to the art form, with strong ties to the influences of past masters, and a willingness to experiment and paint way outside the lines, combined with a pure joy in making sound both beautiful and inspiring. As for the Dire Straits - every song they do is a Gem.
Feel like they were and still are totally underrated! Such beautiful lyrics and sounds, Mark Knopfler considered one of the best guitarists of all time when I chat to pub folk, but I don't think he gets the recognition! Would love a documentary or something about his influence or just anything about his guitar style! Also considering he doesn't use a pick either makes it way cooler 😁
Hey girls just ignore negative comments. We all love your channel. You're doing a fantastic job. It's a lot of fun to watch your great reactions. Cheers, lots of love. From Oz 🙏
T h a n k *YOU* , ladies, for sharing this experience of music with us! 😳👏👍
Keep on enjoying and appreciating music!
Good music touches, moves, and inspires. No matter whether it's Classic, Pop, Rock, Metal or Folk. The proof is not in the style, but in the impact.
Stay positive, stay tuned! Greetings from Germany! 🙂
Thank you Jawo! Hello to Germany! We completely agree, this is what makes Dire Straits so special! Their ability to tell stories with pure instruments is truly remarkable!
I've followed them since they first started and have always loved them but this is by far the best of theirs if not one of the best of any band.
Great reaction and great song! Thank you so much for reacting to another Dire Straits video, they are my favorite band. Mark Knopfler is a fantastic guitar player and a genius when it comes to writing melodies and lyrics.
I hope your next reaction will be to Dire Straits “Tunnel of Love. “ This song tells a true story of what happened to Mark one night at an amusement park when he was a teenager and fell in love. I won’t go to more details because I don’t want to spoil it for you. The Wembley 1985 video is the best live version. All the playing is amazing. However; The studio version is even better. The guitar solo at the end is incredibly poignant and the best solo ever recorded.
What a great reaction young ladies! You girls get it! Love and appreciate great music. Dire straits have so many great songs! You two should listen to another great song “so far away from me” I think you’ll enjoy that one too!👌😎👍👉♥️by the way he’s a great guitar player! Very underrated in my eyes!
What a great reaction! That keyboardist was also Bruce Springsteen’s, a world class master.
And you nailed it, Knopfler’s a brilliant storyteller but also brilliant at enabling the instruments to help tell the stories.
Dire Straits always has a story to tell! Mia and I are so lucky to be able to listen to them!
I've been listening to music like this since the '70s, but I didn't think the younger generation would appreciate it, which is why it's a joy to see you two react to the '70s and '80s bands like Dire Straits, Yes, the Stones and Led Zeppelin. Just one suggestion: when you clap, learn to tell where the "1" beat is. Keep exploring the classic sounds! You ever going to react to any of the great Beatles music?
Girls -we cheered at that concert cos we knew the intro to the epic song coming. That’s why we hyped.
Loved this song from DAY1.
was waiting all the concert for it.
This has always been my favourite storyteller song.
This story applies today to Seattle, Chicago, San Fran, Minneapolis, New York & others if read the lyrics. It's about the start, growth, and demise of Detroit by government. SULTANS of Swing & Telegraph Road are the rock Classics of the Classics. You all must check out the lyrics to bring Marks music to the next level. He makes the cosmos better and even serious or sad songs still leave you uplifted and happy. Incredible
Mark Knopfler is a MASTER BARD, not just a guitar playing singer. If you ever get a chance to listen to his solo work, several albums and televised specials, from after the break up of Dire Straits you will get a true sense of just what a talent this man is. If and when it is time you two young ladies decide to review "Brothers in Arms" please, please, please listen to his performance of it during his BBC televised special from 91/92 called "Mark Knopfler | A Night in London". There is absolutely nothing wrong with the studio version of this song. The performance from that special is just so AMAZING it is hard to put into words...
Another great Dire Straits reaction.
Tunnel of Love, Going Home and Romeo and Juliet from the same album are also highly recommend (as well as all the others on the album. )
Then the Brothers in Arms album.
Thank you! I'll let my dad know about the songs! -Mia \m/
Just an incredible song played by virtuoso musicians.
Listen "Brothers in Arms", "Down in the Waterline", "So Far Away", "Tunnel of Love" e "Lady Writter".So good...
ROMEO AND JULIET, FOR LOVE TO JULIET
I really love long songs. Good choice !
I have to admit that I don't listen to Dire Straits nearly as often now as when pastel coloured clothing was in vogue 😮 That being said, I consider several of the band's songs to be absolute classics - e.g. "Love over Gold", "Romeo and Juliet", "Lady Writer", "Tunnel of Love", "Sultans of Swing" and of course the song you reacted to here. A band well worth checking out further! Thanks for another enthusiastic reaction, ladies!
Mark Knopfler can create so much emotion with his playing.
it's so much joy to se you two beautiful young girls appreciating my absolute #1 favorite song of all time and to hear you speaking highly of my generation's music which was the '70s, love:zocsy, thank you girls!
I love your reaction. It is so nice to see younger people appreciate more than what is the most popular on the radio. You would never hear these songs on the radio (far too long!). I have convinced both my children that DS is the greatest band of all time :)
In addition to being one of the most talented guitar players ever, MK is an exceptional storyteller. This song is about the rise and fall of Detroit. I am impressed how you appreciate how the band is "taking its time" as he explains what is happening. If you listen to some of their other masterpieces (Tunnel of Love, Sultans, Brothers in Arms) you will develop an even deeper appreciation of the MK's and the band's talents. I highly encourage you to listen to the entire Alchemy album. The whole thing is an epic performance, and I don't say that lightly.
when the time machine is invented, come with me and see this gig live and all the other GREAT bands of that era... bless you for this pod! love you :)
Terry Williams on drums at this concert must have had Red Bull on drip 🤣🤣🤣
I can never say enough good things about this band and believe this was the best combination of members. Mark is phenomenal as usual. John on bass superb , Hal on rhythm outstanding, Terry on drums just brilliant but Alan on keys, how on earth can he remember where each key and finger needs to be on an almost 13 minute song and be such a star player. This song is I believe led by Mark and Alan, but definitely not taking anything away from the others.
I love during Alan's little solo how he takes his time , uses some silence in it and at one spot someone yells out " we love you dire straits " and Alan has a tiny grin on his face as I'd he heard and appreciated the compliment. The piano is so critical and integral to this song it's just so damn beautiful. Have always felt like it's equal first spot in the song along with marks singing and guitar playing.
I think the best piece of piano playing in any song designed solely for the song itself .
#Dana's Faith here is a piano only version of Telegraph road to listen to.
ua-cam.com/video/BhPbDt3JUSw/v-deo.html
You can really tell Alan the piano player is really getting into it. It's hard for the piano to be heard over the other instruments when they're singing but Alan definitely pounds the keys hard and fast and is jamming as hard as the others for sure.
I've always lived a good piano eg elton john or Billy Joel but Alan Clark out performs them in this tour and his piano isnt the centre instrument like the other 2 guys mentioned.
40 years later and this song still sends shivers up my spine, it's such a magnificent place in time that won't be replicated.
Hey girls. You're the best reaction channel ever. You're awesome😊 This is my favorite song of all time. This concert is so good. Once Upon A Time In The West Romeo And Juliet , Tunnel Of Love are so good in Alchemy Live. Also from DIRE STRAITS Live ON THE NIGHT 1993 there's a song called Brothers In Arms and Calling Elvis which are brilliant. Just a few suggestions that I recommend. I just can't stop watching your reactions. Your analysis is so brilliant and educational, Best channel ever. I so agree about the music today vs back then. Thanks again. Take care. Cheers from Australia 😊😊🎸🎸🥁🥁🎹🎹🎤🎤
Thank you Mark for your kind words! That was very nice of you!
@@danasfaith5738 You're welcome 😊🙏
The album that this song comes from, "Love Over Gold" has only 5 songs. They are all (except one rocker in the middle) long and complex story telling songs with well orchestrated instruments.
I doubt today that many would have the attention span for the length of these songs, but if you do, Knopfler is the greatest at pulling this off.
Other great live Dire Straits are "Tunnel of Love", "Romeo & Juliet", and "Love Over Gold" from Alchemy Live. Another is "Brothers in Arms" at Wembley Stadium 1988 Nelson Mandela concert.
Hello beautiful girls.
Telegraph Road from the iconic album Love Over Gold 1982.
Mike Knopfler finger picking style on guitar is breathtaking.
I saw them in May 1992 in Rotterdam.
Love you much Leon ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You have so much to discover girls...my early teens through to 30 was a magical time for me, from Pink Floyd, Genesis, E.L.O Supertramp, Moody Blues, Dire Straits and many more. I could give you a list of suggestions but I'd be writing it all day 😏 happy journey girls...
Y'all are fantastic you know a lot about music
a great band at the top of their game
Keep practicing Mia! And maybe listen to some Emerson Lake and Palmer! I know you both will love them! Thank you ladies nice work! Yee!😉
Emerson lake and Palmer yes 😂 off the chain
I have to be honest - I clicked on this in a bad mood, and given Dire Straits is my favourite band and from the thumbnail you looked... I stress 'looked', like two silly kids trying to make a UA-cam channel, I thought hmm...
Problem is, you've just become my favourite 'reactors'. You are both wise beyond your years ladies. Well done.
A side note: 1997 (I think). An Englishman in LA (me, not a million miles away from Montebello). Three Irish friends and myself spent our entire months' wages to get second row seats at the Lakers Stadium (Staples then, can't remember) to watch Dire Straits. As we settled down into our seats, three Valley Girls sat down behind us, very loudly moaning/complaining/basically being annoying. It seems they had won tickets to the show on some radio station, and were very sad that it wasn't Tiffany they were attending, but some 'like English Folk Band whaaaaat?.'
Dire Straits opened with Tunnel of Love, followed by Romeo and Juliet, first two songs off the Making Movies album and R&J is probably the greatest song ever written, if you want a song to react to.
12 minutes. Silence behind us. Then one of the girls simply said 'It just makes you want to go out and buy a guitar'.
I will never forget that night.
Glad those valley girls came around quickly.
Ah, the tenderness, stamina and sanity of Dire Straits! And the audience was so elegant too, pre-zombified- "wooing".
I grew up living right off Telegraph Rd. Always loved this song!
I really like when younger generation (or two) can appreciate music I grew up with. There is still hope for humanity!
A couple thousand out of almost 8 billion, you must be a TRUE optimist... lol
@@Wolverines77 besed on reality nowadays.....
I listened to this song over and over that time I drove to Mexico to buy penicillin because it was cheaper than going to a doctor. Bought my girlfriend some earrings with the money I saved and spent a day trucking through the desert breathing the cleanest air in the world. This song was the mood.
What a story! LOL! Thank you for sharing!
@@danasfaith5738 May I suggest that you give a listen to Gogol Bordello. You might find Imigrinada suitable, I first heard Through the Roof. They're on a rare US tour soon, I am telling you with all of my soul YOU MUST BE IN THIS CROWD! I will help pay for your tickets, you need to understand what magic is. Or business as usual.
Nice reaction girls and nice finding your channel. Alchemy "forging base metals into gold" is an apt description for how these musical instruments in the hands of masters are blended into musical gold. Incredible, tight, technical and virtuoso playing. This concert was a musically life changing experience for me all those years ago and is still as good now. Mark Knopfler, besides his guitar playing, is imho, one of the greatest musical minds of our generation and his music has been an inspiration to me my whole life. Expresso Love off the same concert is also well worth checking out.....raw, upbeat and energising song.
this is the story of the rise and fall of detroit starting with henry ford walking to the close of some of the factories
Great reaction , lovely to see the younger generation appreciating REAL music . Well done ladies
There is no higher praise than a standing ovation from Dana's Faith.
Mark Knopfler is a man from my home territory, northeast England. A terrific musician, a terrific band.
Mates with Sting and Bryan Ferry, imagine jamming with them! Great talent from that part of the country
@@LucyLocket24 my wife attended the school Sting taught at, but not while he was teaching.
Great song! But if you want to react to another dire straits song you should try with tunnel of love..
Nice to see you from Colombia 🙂
Music of my youth, much gentler and kinder times. Glad you both enjoy it.
Loved your reaction ladies yes, great musicianship.
Love you two girls, you are very intelligent for your young ages.
keep on reacting...
A performance like that is rarer than haleys comet 🥺👴🏻 🎸
Love your reaction to the music of MY time, most of their songs and music rips the emotions out of me EVERY time and I have heard them all a thousand times. see how easy he makes it look - they all do. Listen to Romeo & Juliet and Brothers in Arms girls xx
Next up: 'Tunnel of Love', live, Wembley 1985. You won't be disappointed.
Written out of boredom as their tour bus travelled from Toledo to Detroit on US24 (Telegraph Road once you get closer to Detroit)...
Rub it in, why don't you - that could well have been from the tour where I didn't go and see them after having been given a ticket .. ;)
Pretty much you said it all - great musicians, telling a story!
Great track, love the resonator guitar (Dobro(?), probably National) he was playing off the top before trading for his Strat. Deep stuff. Knopfler's a world treasure. Don't discount the actual stories either, he's a great lyricist, a master messager.
Much love and respect. As a father of artistically and musically inclined kids each twice your age, and a former teacher of both adults and kids younger than you, including mine at that age,, kudos and loads of success and enjoyment on your journeys. Hats off here too.
Listen to Romeo And Juliet and to, my favorite, Brothers In Arms.
Beautiful song with beautiful music.
I grew up with this band, same era, and even same area, went to the same school just a few years behind them. Polished, clean and incredibly good storytelling in the lyrics. The band was very much built around Marc Knopfler, but it never felt like a vanity project. They were big in the 80s, but seemed to be lost to the public from the 90s onwards, although Knopfler did a lot of work with film soundtracks as well. Love seeing new generations finding out just how incredible these guys were, especially their live recordings. I always felt this was the UKL answer to Bruce Springsteen, and some regards, better.
No human is a better guitar player than is Mark Knopfler and his band is in the HOF. I recommend: Private Investigations, Tunnel of love, Brothers in arms, Romeo & Juliet & the Man’s too strong
Forgive me, I didn’t expect you girls to be so sharp and smart! Very impressed! I feel bad for doubting you but you got another sub & like from me at least. I’ve been watching other reactors and they give such little feedback. You’ve got the balance of listening then feeding back perfect! Not too much, not too little. Brilliant job & you’re showing the older reactors how it’s done!!
Time for the next master piece... Tunnel of Love from Live at Wembley 1985 version 😉✌🏻️
They have so many great songs. I really like "Water of Love" and "Once upon a time in the west"
I love Water line
Hi Girls! iI am a monster fan of The Warning, and that's how I ran across you a while ago. Great to see you reacting to one of my all time favorite bands, Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler is a genius on the guitar and their storytelling is amazing.
I would suggest you do "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits next! You will LOVE it.
Hail to wearing Judas Priest t-shirts 🤘🤘
Dire Straits - gone, but not forgotten... hope u get to see Mark Knopfler live in concert; he getting up there - 72 yrs...
Try "Romeo and Juliet" next. You're gonna love it.
HELLO BEAUTIFUL SISTERS! JULIET (AND THE BEAUTY MIA OF COURSE) , DID YOU ALREADY LISTENED TO THE SONG "ROMEO AND JULIET", BY DIRE STRAITS ? KISSES FROM FRANCE BEAUTIES! ✌️😂😘🇫🇷
IT'S 6AM IN FRANCE, THERE'S A BIFG JET LAG! I MUST GO TO WORK! IT'S SO COOL TO BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE SAME KIND OF MUSIC, AND TALK ABOUT IT, WITH THE WEB! CONTINUE YOUR REACTIONS MY BEAUTIES! KISSES FROM FRANCE 😘✌️🇫🇷❤️
Dire straits are brilliant, listen to Tunnel of love live at alchemy
Listen to "Tunnel of love" (Live at Wembley). You won't regreat it.
But, yes. As I read in the comments, Brothers in arms, Romeo and Juliet, Private investigations, Money for nothing... All of them are great. You must listen to all of them!
Great reaction to a great song! Keep up the awesome job!
Now you mentioned stories: Mark Knopfler had the basis of his lyrics in a pocket notebook he carried with himself or just a piece of paper he grabbed at a place or another. Sultans of Swing was written about a jazz band playing in an almost empty pub in Deptford, London and their name was the title of the song. Mark found amusing the sharp contrast between the dull atmosphere by the band and their grandiose name.
Money for Nothing commemorated the words of a working Joe of an electric appliances shop while carrying "microwave ovens" and stuff... While he was working, Knopfler grabbed a piece of paper and quickly jotted down most of employee's ramblings about "money for nothing and your chicks for free".
Walk of Life was inspired by street musicians, most of them playing in the London Underground.
So Far Away tells the absurdity of conducting a relationship over phone - something a number of touring musicians had to resort to while touring the world in the 1980s...
I always considered this song to be everything Bruce Springsteen was trying to say, but better. Nice job, ladies!
Mark, master of the guitar.
Great performance. Knopfler great musician and Dire Straits were really great performing live!
They were INCREDIBLE! We're so grateful we can still watch them! Dire Straits is so awesome to listen to and take in!
