For everyone that has the error "VERIFICATION CODE MISMATCH". After almost 2 hours of looking for the issue just figured out what was the problem. It is actually very easy. The new domain you want to connect with Facebook needs to be the Primary domain on Shopify. Mine wasn't and took me so much time to figure it out...

for some dumb reason it wouldn't let me do it with the metatag (30 min trying) so I had to do the text record and it verify in less than 5min. My domain is through Google and redirected to shopify.

I am currently dealing with this problem for a few days now.
It says verification code mismatch or DNS entries not found.
I tried couple of times already and also the Meta tag verification. Its not working as well.
contacted both shopify and fb support. No help at all.
