    I don't remember how I stumbled upon this video but this sent me down a rabbit hole of rack kits. Found a million other rack mod videos though I keep coming back to this one, thank you so much for the inspiration and guidance.

    I appreciate all the hard work going into modding a case. I mod cases and build DJ booths myself so I understand the ups and downs. I am eyeing this case to do the same as you did but different gear to rack. I do love the cutouts for the foam. Very clean, did you do that yourself? Be glad to show you the finished product once completed, if you're interested. I was thinking you can always make cuts as you did to the platform using a router but you want to first make a jig out of wood to guide the router. In using jigs, I find it a much easier and pain free process. Also, removing the platform first would make cutting it out a lot easier too. In cutting plastic I find new blades with more teeth a lot better and finer. You can also use a drummer multitool to clean up rough cuts and smooth them out. a router can also round those edges up too.
    To make life even easier, I recommend just investing into pre-punched D-shape 19" rack panel instead of customizing one. You can figure out how many holes you need and order accordingly. Mostly even count holes are sold such as 4, 6, 8 and so on. You can get BNC in D-shape jacks as well. When dealing with wireless microphone antennas, always make sure your BNC connectors and wires are no more than 50 ohm (radio frequency). Many are rated for 75 ohm (video) and you do not want to use that for antenna extensions.
    Investing in pre-punch knockouts helps in time and gives one a much cleaner look that is if you have to punch a d-housing cutout through a steel plate. I recommend investing into knockouts such as the Greenlee 12338 Knockout Punch Unit, 23.8 mm. Much easier and cleaner on steal than drilling them out. The knockouts can be purchased right off Amazon too even though i found them cheaper online. Using reinforcements for the holes in plastic and wood is smart too. I like using Neutrik MFD Rear Mounting Plate w/M3 Tap Holes for D-housing cutouts. Again, great job and thank you for the info. I feel much more confident in purchasing this case.
    Rock da house!

      @@djkanoya I have the same case (4U) and same drawer. Currently I run a Senn Ew-D Lav and G4 handheld as my wireless mics. I'm using an Alesis mixer similar to yours. But I run the whole thing on a CSNL custom battery pack/power strip so it's completely wireless for beaches, etc.

    Did you try using a smaller mixer? I’m looking at the behringer flow 8 which looks pretty small. Also I would cut those receiver power cables and make them shorter. Nice use of the wire loom.

    • @djkanoya
      @djkanoya  2 роки тому

      I did not, as I was set on wanting this mixer for various reasons. That Flow 8 does look to have a lower profile than the ZEDi.

  • @808TheDJ

    Justin, I took the time to look at this. Great build! I had created my own ceremony case however I used a rack system that had a Channel Mic/Line Mixer with Stereo Outputs instead of a mixer that utilized the top of the case as a stand. That way, I can keep my computer on top of the entire build, giving me a small profile. Just curious on why you went with the mixer you chose (not saying one is better than the other)....

    • @djkanoya
      @djkanoya  2 роки тому

      This is the eternal debate of form over function. Ultimately I like the flexibility a mixer like this gives me for inputs and outputs. Most notably if I have to connect a musician or give a videographer an aux out.
      I guess ultimately it would be nice to build out another system with a 1U mixer. Which one do you have?

    • @808TheDJ
      @808TheDJ 2 роки тому +1

      @@djkanoya I built my ceremony system using the ART MX821S Eight Channel Mic/Line Mixer with Stereo Outputs. I am able to still use it for inputs easily with the back off of my box. Each input channel accepts either a balanced XLR input or an unbalanced 1/4-inch TS line-level signal and provides independent level and pan controls, so not totally out of the water. Yes, only thing I hoped it would have was effects, which is the only downfall, but as of yet, never needed it (all singers were good one :) )

    Funny, i had called SKB to ask if they could make a taller lid for this exact build! i never would have thought to cut out the floor like you did but since it worked for you ill definitely take that chance.

    • @djkanoya
      @djkanoya  2 роки тому

      For the same Allen and Heath? That's so funny.
      Someone gave me a tip for the cut (instead of the jigsaw). "Use a compact cut-off tool for straight cuts in plastic and aluminum."
      Good luck!

      @@djkanoya well to use with my QSC TM8. I’ve seen your other builds and have been on edge about those but I like this solution better as i think it has a better seal from the elements when closed since I store in my garage.

    I had a question regarding the power strip. Do you always leave the power bar on. Does the unit power on once you connect the power con into the unit itself. I'm looking to build a rock case and also do not have room for a Furman power conditioner

    • @djkanoya
      @djkanoya  Рік тому

      Correct, the strip is on. I don't even think it has an on/off switch, it's just a cheap one. You may want to look into a half rack conditioner or the Furman AC 210 for an actual conditioner that might work if space is limited.

    Nice setup, but watch out for those System 10 Pro. I use to love them 4 years ago and still own over 10 of them but when they get in a busy wifi spot they WILL let you down. If they're right next to wireless wifi router or close a wireless DMX controller they will fail when you need them most. But if they're in a good environment you can't beat them. I went all in on AT 3000 4gen like what you have and I have 7 them that are rock solid in any environment.

    • @djkanoya
      @djkanoya  2 роки тому

      I've had success with the System 10 as well ... but just to be super safe, I added that 3000 series for the lapel that I put on the officiant!
      I discuss this in my follow up video that is coming out soon. Since this was focused on the build of the system, I did a follow up talking about all the gear.
