Thanks for video. Can you do a break down on the tensioner? I popped mines out and it doesnt want to extend automatically. Unless i have to manually do that. Much thanks
It should have tension pushing out. When you install it you have to screw the plunger back. If it’s not putting tension on the chain then the engine could jump timing.
I have a 04 Eiger 400 that’s making a loud noise when accelerating, kind of sounds like a rod knock or something but I can’t figure it out. Did yours make a loud noise before you replaced the tensioner? Thanks
The tensioner would just keep your chain from jumping timing, then if the timing is off it won’t run right. A rod knock could be a bearing on the crankshaft. If you rotate the engine over by hand is there a place it sticks or clunks?
Hello , I have a CF Moto (zforce) 600-3 … the engine is noisy… maybe the chain noise . I check the tensioner, is it good. But i think the chain driver is worn. The tensioner is at the limit … the engine run only 3600 km…
@@ArcticFrost Many thanks your Answer. So When the chain tensioner is in and the chain is tight, I can lift the chain by hand. It also moves to the side a little. Could the wheel be worn? Is it enough to replace the wheel, or do I need to replace the chain as well?
Normally it is just the chain that will get worn or stretch. If you can wiggle the chain or it has lots of wear on it it may be stretched out and need replaced.
It could get damaged if the engine overheats, or is run low on oil, and it will damage the engine components. You will only need to adjust the tension if you are aligning your timing, or have deeper engine work and need to remove or adjust the cam chain.
You made it look really easy. I need to change on mine, but will a mechanic do it for me.
It is easy to get to and replace. 👍🏼

If you give me az e-mail , i can send you a video
You may have to pull the top end to check if the cam sprocket is worn.

@@ArcticFrost I sent you a short video to your e-mail address. Many Thanks,

Should you have your piston at TDC when replacing the tensioner ??
If you don’t rotate anything when you replace it you’re timing should stay set. So you can replace it without being at TDC.
@@ArcticFrost if the cam chain is under tension (valve open) when you remove the tensioner then it could jump a tooth apparently.
Will there always be tension on that plunger, cuz i pulled mine out and had or has no tension against it
It should always have tension on the plunger. The screwdriver is only to pull it back to install it.
The name of this part is obviously self describing, but how do you know if it needed replacement & when/why would you adjust tension?

@@ArcticFrost oh ok. Thank you👍
The screwdriver part is not clear.
