I just changed both of my tensioner shoes and you do not have to take the top end off the engine to do this job. You can cut the stock pushrods and then install adjustable ones.
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Zakai Gerald I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Used this and your exhaust removal video today to check and change mine. Front tensioner was similar to what this video showed, back looked near new just like this video. I’ll be changing the front for now and upgrading to hydraulic later this year. My bike has 29k miles. Thanks for the great content.
I just bought a 2004 Road King with 54,000 miles on it. I told the dealer i wanted the tensioners inspected before i drive it off the lot. Fingers crossed.
Sir please csn you tell me what is the part number for both the tensioner s and the gasket for the cover so I can set for it I have a twin CSM 88 2002 model appreciate it
Excellent video! You know, I checked the outside tensioner which was worn but when I took a close up pic of the inside, it wasn't worn at all...this will save me NOT taking the whole thing apart! Thank you for your video!
Thanks you showed the inside one and explained how to tell of the wear mine looks just like this motorcycle it has 44k on it thanks for one of the best videos on checking these cam chain shoes you are so right these are great motorcycles
I'm having some work done to my Harley and I'm going to get a cam upgrade next thank you for the video I'm going to be putting all new parts so they can replace them also thanks again
Thank you for the advice on inspecting chain tensioners. I at least have the confidence on inspecting them. Not sure about replacing them myself? 2001 road king police 88ci. 10k for miles.
If I’d had the money at that time I’d do away with the spring tensioners they are junk can’t believe HD should’ve recalled all spring tensioners pure garbage
this one had 28K miles....you need to open yours to check it soon...it's a safe bet you will be in the perfect time to replace them before it's too late. Thanks for your interest and please subscribe...it will help me out
Thanks for the video, I purchased inner and outer assemblies looking at them they look wide.. ? would you happen to know the OEM width of the assemblies ? Thanks for your time
Great video sir Please can you tell me as to what is the part number for the CSM chain tensioner front and rear and the gasket so I can send for it I’m based in india and would appreciate the lead and are they easily available for a 2002 Roadking 88 Regards 🙏
I read somewhere that tbe the cam cover bolts aee diff size and have to go back in exact same holes in tbe cam cover when re installing the cover .is this correct .? Thanks.
I’m wondering also if you should expect some evidence of serious wear in the oil filter? I cut mine open and found one thin small flat piece maybe 1/8 square. Clean as a bell otherwise. It’s an 05 with 15,000 on it. Plan to take a real look this winter.

Thank you. You're the first person I've seen highlight the rear tensioner.
Best video on this subject that I’ve seen yet. Now I feel comfortable checking this myself
Just picked up a twin cam and I need to do this check so I appreciate the effort. Thanks.

Got over the fear and picked up a '99 fxdl with 25k miles. No noises so this is the first thing on the to do list.
Excellent vid. Clear and to the point. Many thanks
Thank you for the advice on inspecting chain tensioners. I at least have the confidence on inspecting them. Not sure about replacing them myself? 2001 road king police 88ci. 10k for miles.
good job !, question , is it something u notice only by viewing it or does it go along with noise ? ❤️ to get the conclusion to exchange the tensioner
Great advice ! I am am thinking about buying a cheaper used Harley! What to know ! Thanks!!😎👍
Good video! To the point. I'm at 17k on my 04 now and I'm changing them any way
good video. simple and to the point .
What steps are u showing to replace it you just took the cover off and showed what it looks like inside
Great video Bro!!! This is next on my to-do-list.
Might want to go ahead and check the back as well, just to be sure
Whats the typical milage that they wear out at. I just bought an 2004 road king with 38,000.
If I’d had the money at that time I’d do away with the spring tensioners they are junk can’t believe HD should’ve recalled all spring tensioners pure garbage
You did a great job.thanks
Great video thanks. How many miles were on that bike? I have a 03 flhr road king and greatly concerned. It has 29k miles currently

Thanks! Do you have a video on how to replace them?
I will be doing them next week on one bike and thinking about making the video...stay tuned...hopefully I will get it done...
Thanks. Good explanation
How did you see the rear one without using a dental mirror?
excellent video
Why do these assholes at my local Harley service shop want crazy money for this service? Thanks for the video
I read somewhere that tbe the cam cover bolts aee diff size and have to go back in exact same holes in tbe cam cover when re installing the cover .is this correct .?
Thanks.
Great vid thanks
By chance could you tell me the size socket you used? I’m going to make a tool to remove and replace the tensioners.
Did the shoot this with a camcorder?
I’m wondering also if you should expect some evidence of serious wear in the oil filter? I cut mine open and found one thin small flat piece maybe 1/8 square. Clean as a bell otherwise. It’s an 05 with 15,000 on it. Plan to take a real look this winter.
How do they run when they're getting wore down?
Nice video! Thanks
Thanks for the video.
Mini-gun exhaust?
My roadking 2008 has about 35000 miles. Should I change the chain tensioners yet
Road Glide has 33k on it. I'm in the process of changing mine. Disassembly of an evening. I should know what shape they are in by tomorrow night.
we pulled both tensioners , and threw them away.
Always great content. How about a 2005 GSX-R 600/750 spun bearing repair?
New motor baby.
You need to upgrade to the hydraulic tensioners
Good stuff bro , just subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Hydraulic total job here.£1760.
Not replacing both tensioners is just asking for trouble ,I wouldn't let him near my bike .Just get the harley upgrade to hydraulic tensioners
Kinda weird to replace one! This video is sorta funny because it doesn't show much of anything! A little slow also.
Switch to gear drive
Checking is easy fixing is a bit more detailed. Lol
You should of showed us how to remove the actual tensioner off the bike itself.
"Harley twin cam chain tensioner CHECK at home DIY step by step" Not Harley twin cam chain tensioner REPLACE at home DIY step by step
@@noteasilyoffended4649 would of been a way better video had u included that. And no shit title says that. I was just giving you some feedback.
Always replace them both while your in there
Sounds like a motor fucker to change that inner one. (Change my mind)
@@chadaxling2857 it seems like it would be best to replace the push rods with adjustable, instead of messing with the top end.
You would have to have heard the metal on metal?
