How To Check Your Timing

- In this video I show how to check the timing on your Arctic Cat H1 engine. You will have to remove the top of the engine head to check the camshaft position so make sure you have some high temp gasket maker on hand!

Check the valves , they are known to tighten up . All my artic cats have , usually set the valves every year .
haha! The suspenseful Star Wars like music had me on the edge of my seat❤
Excellent videos. Ty. What is the title of the followup video to this one? I'm guessing you solved the problem. I'm having the same symptoms and I'm stuck on what to look at next? Some sensor, maybe? Anyway, if you can let me know what the title is for the followup video. I haven't been able to find it.
On this one I had to replace the injector, and the fuel pump wasn’t giving enough pressure. You can hook up a pressure gauge to see if it is 43psi.

Will the ATV pass a compression test even if timing is off? I have a 2009 arctic cat 550 efi that has a similar problem as the one in the video.
How hard is it to take the valve top off on your Alterra? Do you need all the plastics off?
And you should do a short video on setting TDC
Almost the same on this on as the Alterra, you should only have to remove the side panels to get in there. I’ll be sure to make one of those! Thanks for the suggestion!
Thats all fine but how do i adjust it if the timing marks are not lined up?
The engine components have to be in the right rotation and lined up to adjust it properly otherwise it could act like it’s in limp mode, have rough idle, or it might not start at all.
Ok one more question, If you don't mind, how would you know if you've reached TDC on the compression stroke before taking the top off? Is there a click or some kind of resistance that I'm looking for?
@@somayukihira4949 You should be able to feel air pressure from the spark plug hole when you crank it around. I show how to do that in this video ua-cam.com/video/0fV_aphDHqM/v-deo.htmlsi=7sWftvqku8A1dXHv
@@ArcticFrost That doesn't answer the Question. How do you adjust the timing marks themselves if they are off?
@@rickberg2986 To realign the timing remove the valve cover/top end, remove the cam chain tensioner so the cam chain is loose, make sure the magneto timing mark is aligned in the inspection hole, then adjust the camshaft timing marks to align with the head (your crankshaft should be in the top-dead-center position and the camshaft should have the cam lobes in the down position). If either is off then you can adjust the chain by loosening the camshaft sprocket from camshaft and rotating the chain on the sprocket. When all timing marks are correct crankshaft is TDC, cam lobes down, then reinstall the sprocket to the camshaft (use red Loctight on the sprocket bolts) install cam chain tensioner, and the top end.
How loose shold the chain be, I checked mine today and seemed to be a bit loose
It should be pretty snug. I would check that the tensioner is working properly.

Mine is having the same problem.
Have you checked fuel pressure or the injector? Should have a constant 43psi fuel pressure from the fuel pump. ua-cam.com/video/0qUQnv8NHTY/v-deo.html
Out of Curiosity, what ended up being the problem?
Turned out to be the injector. ua-cam.com/video/0qUQnv8NHTY/v-deo.html
