great speech about taking small bets on more original ideas rather than huge bets on corporate box office machines
I'm glad someone gave him the opportunity. American Fiction is a fine debut by any standard.
He's right. Stop betting the farm on your huge ass expensive movies when you make such bad decisions. Bet on smaller budgets, more unique perspectives, give each smaller section of moviegoers the movies they love, movies for them. Statistics and analytics are counter to art and this is an artform. Give artists the reins.
eloquent response
Yes exactly. Like no one asked for Madame Web
Wonderful speech. More lower budget, quality films.
Mark Ruffalo was talking about a similar project he did, I cant remember which one. He said - it was rough, we had no money to do ABC and XYZ and we had to really suffer in doing certain parts. We can do it low budget stuff and still create something great and others can do it too. You dont need big production companies to be in control, you can be in control and deliver great stuff.
This was the best acceptance speech of this year’s Oscar’s. Much more real and impactful beyond the merely personal.
Bro spoke some straight up truths right there
Incredibly important point said at an incredibly important opportunity. I hope "Hollywood" pays some attention to it.
I bet we'll see the opposite. Last year saw a handful of 300 million dollar busts. This year, maybe we'll see 400 million?
Saw the movie and got to talk to him in person while at TIFF last year. Every bit as casual and humble here as he was there. So glad he was recognized!
Very well said, and well deserved.
American Fiction is such an underrated film that deserves far more recognition and doesn't deserve to be seen as one of the weakest best picture nominees.
what an amazing guy
Congrats to him and what a great speech. What he said was important and timely. Hollywood and the Oscars should be about more than just the big budget films. Diversity is still lacking, and Oscar is still extremely YT. Nice to see "the little guy" steal one that was well earned and well deserved.
My favourite speech all night. But diversity over merit is what’s killing movies. And there is a lot more representation in film these days. But that shouldn’t be the barometer for good art. Good art is universal. Not white not black, just human. Stop making it about the differences and start seeing everyone as part of the same community.
Sorry I am French : what does it mean "extremely YT"? Thank you 😅
@@brunonola9006 Diversity can coexist with merit, and in a true form is an aspect of it.
@@ganoramac’est une abréviation du mot White ( dans ce cas là en référence à la race)
@@milenagebremeskel6555 ahhhh why-te suis bête. Merci Milena !
As someone who saw it only yesterday: Damn, was that deserved. It's friggin' great!
Best movie of the year tbh
u black ?
Definitely.
Agreed! A real story, a great character “study” and relatable. Jeffrey Wright was phenomenal, too.
Well deserved. What a gentleman. Beautifully stated! Let’s make some movies!! 🎉
He’s fucking spot on, said out loud what everyone’s been thinking for a long time, but outside of a few directors have rarely had the podium to express it, this was a damn good year and it shows the worth of good writing.
Congratulations Cord! I don't know why several people were thinking Oppenheimer or Barbie could win; you can now PUT IT TO REST!!!!
Loved this movie!!! so different, funny, and brilliant. Very deserving of all awards
Amazing Guy, amazing Team, amazing Movie ! Cheers from France !! I was checking the Oscars' results just to check how many statuettes this movie gets. Deserves more 🎉
YES
Saw the movie and got to talk to him in person while at TIFF last year. Every bit as casual and humble here as he was there. So glad he was recognized!
Genuinely ❤️ his realism. One of my favorite acceptances.
Why did I imagine a bunch of cops running out with guns at the end?
His speech was spot on 👏🏼
Great movie, and speech. Congrats 🎉 Cord.
One of the best Oscar speeches ever.
With Anatomy of a Fall winning Original Screenplay, this is the third time I can think of where both Screenplay categories were the only awards their respective movies won. The first was 2012, with The Descendants winning Adapted and Midnight in Paris winning Original, and 2018, with Call Me by Your Name winning Adapted and Get Out winning Original.
In 2020 Parasite won best original while Jojo Rabbit won best adapted
@@pauloandrerpd Yeah, but Parasite also won other awards, including Best Picture. I meant times when both of the screenplay categories were the only awards for their movies.
Good looking guy
Omg...just saw the movie and it was such a delight. Finally a rich complex, funny, sad and interesting movie. I loved it. Well deserved his Oscar.
Great speech!
Good best, propably the best of the night but its not on top of the UA-cam suggestions. I had to search specifically to find it.
can't wait to see what is next for his career
For real though
Congratulations 🎊!
Great film, great speech!
3 minutes into the movie I said “Greenlight special!”
As I watched it confirmed my “how to win an Oscar when you’re black” theory.
Still. Magnificent!
It was a tractor beam coming from my big ass TV.
I couldn’t even go to the bathroom.
I felt the characters and the imagery were of utmost importance,
Except for the ones with lifestyles I will never buy into.
I considered those “price of admission roles.”
After fast forwarding I couldn’t wait to get back to the real story.
One thing I can say about race in America after watching this, if dealt with correctly, it yields great writing!
This guy wins to Nolan and Greta, so perfect! thank you
Superb movie and great speech, completely deserved !
Yes!
Great use of his time in the spotlight
Great speech! Awesome movie with an incredible ensemble!! Bravo!!
Brilliant cast, brilliant dialogues, never a dull moment in the entire movie. It is a classic “SAD comedy!!’ A great social satire in the class of the great Bernard Shaw! So funny, but so,sad and so relevant.
Wonderful ❤
Congratulations, Cord!!!!!!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Was probably my favorite movie of the year. Storytelling at its best. This was well deserved!
The movie was amazing. Highly recommend.
Loved this movie. Congratulations!
Hopefully the lesson here is there is an audience for things that are different. There is an appetite for things that are different and a story with Black characters that’s going to appeal to a lot of people. Black films don’t need to take place on a plantation, they don’t need to take place in the projects. It doesn’t need to have drug dealers in it and doesn’t need to have gang members in it. There’s an audience and market for depictions of Black life that are as broad and as deep as any other depictions of people’s lives.
absolutely beautiful film
I couldn’t agree more. I’m so tired of all of this overspending on lesser quality movies that don’t care about being a good movie or being anything other than a sequel, remake or prequel.
Noooo!!!! Where are we gonna hide our laundered money???
+1
Nice work Cord!
This was one of my favorite surprises of the night. AF was one of the more delightful films to come out this year.
Congratulations!!
STELLAR MOVIE✨✨✨✨🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
American Fiction is an audacious film…Cord what a speech so precise…
Seen it good film x well deserved x 👏
Congrats Cord! 🎉
We also had sooo much joy watching this !
Congratulations. Wellcome to Sarajevo Film Festival-thank You.
The moral of the story and the case + point of the film are both in the real-life Oscar win... I hope we catch that... ❤
Great speech. Great movie.
Congrats Cord, well deserved and good speech, you are a continuation of a determination story written by my brother, your father "Uncle Jeff".
Best wishes.
Excellent speech.
Excellent speech.
Greta deserves a nomination, to say the least. I had a stint with the industry and heard a story how - back in Sacramento - she was dumped by her then-boyfriend, who told her she would never achieve anything, while he was kicking her out of his car. Guess, she proved him wrong...
I mean that's unfortunate but personal drama isn't and shouldn't be a factor here. Ppl get dumped all the time, have bad relationships all the time.
Are you slow ? 😂
I've seen this comment in multiple Oscar videos already % what is it.
Came here for Kate
Winning an Oscar shouldn't alter your life drastically. It's often the result of a blend of hard work and luck.
Good speech, but the award was for “adapted” screenplay, so it would have been better if he’d mentioned Percival Everett, the author of Erasure, the novel on which the movie was based.
R.I.P Akira Toriyama💔
The real black experience
Whose that next to Wright ?
Where are Directors: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert? Lasr year winners?
I want to see this movie
It's really good! I wish it would've won more but Screenplay was the only category it was going to win!
Bruh the screenplay was the worst part of the movie😂
Wrong
@@heisen-bones can u specify why im wrong
your opinion. if you didn't agree with the win, just say it. Either way, Cord Jefferson won and was well deserved!@@yuval.a5909
Outstanding news... Christ's blood, his death on the cross, releases us from the guilt of sin, accepting us as righteous in God's sight Colossians1:20 The cross shows the seriousness of our sin, it also shows God's immeasurable love. There's hope and salvation to all who put their trust in Jesus. Please think about it.
Ironyception. 😅
huh?
Wait, he is black? Hahaha what? He does not look it at all
What makes you think he's not?????? 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽
It is a clever screenplay about a relevant subject but it's no way better than Barbie, Poor Things, Oppenheimer and Zone of Interest.
Your opinion.
The Academy thought American Fiction was the Adapted Screenplay
@@lucas8681 Yes, mine but I am not alone.
ffs Oscars! you have one job ONE fking job to do!! Oppenheimer's full sweep!!
are you unstable?
Oppenheimer is NOT going to win everything. American Fiction swept the precursors so what made you think Oppenheimer was going to win?
Did you watch this movie you nolanbro?
Great movie! Very Funny!! 😎
