Sinister’s reaction to this discovery never gets old. This game is hard with modern strats, crazy to think that those guys were landing frame perfect punches on Don just for the opportunity to get railed by hippo RNG
I thought you skipped him, glad to see this.
I'm glad you brought up the left-right infinite thing. Somehow, as a young kid in the late 80s/early 90s I knew about that "trick" on Don 1. That was long before we had internet access so I'm not sure how. Some kid must have figured it out (or had a strategy guide, if there was one for MTPO?) and passed along the info I guess
Wait, that's a trick?
Honestly. The way the game controls. It feels great going left to right over and over and over again. And the game does a great job at telling you whenbyou keep punching due to it's amazing spritework.
It was likely known about very early on after the games release since it's a really early game fight and the strategy relies in something natural for the player to do.
@@linhero797 - I was going to say the same thing. It's something that's natural to try and stringing punches until they counter is pretty normal, so it didn't take much to discover that we could do it until knockdown.
@@kruks What probably took some time, or Nintendo Power was Don's Rematch fight. Much, MUCH, later into the game and a pattern that needs to be figured out.
@@linhero797The left left right combo, right?
6:00 love the pause on the cursed face lol
The existence of the clock stop glitch and it being allowed in runs by illegitimate authority is wild to me. I find myself with a number of questions about it. Are phases dictated by the clock? If you somehow activated a clock stop against Tyson, would he never stop throwing uppercuts at the start of the fight?
That said, I'm very glad it was rejected early. The fight between RTA and IGT would have been a nasty one if clock stop were the standard.
In MTPO speedrunning, a phase is said to end when an opponent gets knocked down... So most fights only have 3 phases (Glass Joe has1 phase, King Hippo has 1, Don 1 has 2 etc)... If you could clockstop on Tyson, before 1:30, then yes, he would continue to throw uppercuts.
Clockstop on Tyson seems to be impossible though as you cannot get rapid punches on him. Clockstop is only possible on Glass Joe, Don 1, Soda, Don 2, Macho and Honda 2 (he has a very unique way, but to do it is always slower than the speedrun time).
@@Papamanual Fascinating! Thank you for filling me in on the things I didn't even know I didn't know. It never ceases to astound how many tiny secrets hide in this old gem.
I love these videos, good job !
10:01 If we don't know, let's say it was Matt Turk. You know, because of traditions.
If you don't have full health and the clock isn't less than one minute when you knock Don down for the first time, he'll get up with a larger refill. And if you don't have full health and the clock isn't less than one minute when you knock him down for the second time, he'll get up instead of staying down.
I love your breakdowns, man. 💚
Been waiting for this one for a while now! So excited!
I only found you recently but I'm super glad I did
You make really quality content
when i heard zallards name i cheered
Really enjoy your channel!
Great job with the deep dive into a fight that not much attention is really paid to. As always, a great video from a great video maker.
Always nice getting these individual level breakdowns from someone as knowledgeable as Pap. Also always just been crazy to me just how deep this game actually is, much more than it seems on the surface with all the conditions for health refills, 10 count knockouts, etc. But yeah great video as always, looking forward to future vids
Awesome video as always!
Good job for 10K subscribers
Great vid, Pap!
Tbh i would like to know whats the lowest time you could get with the clock stop glitch
I think its 11.97 for Don 1
@Papamanual thanks I was also thinking what is it for the other fights?
Expecting another banger. Please take this comment, oh Algorithm Gods.
low number good
I can't wait for the Don 2 video, which I imagine will have a rather different history than this one, considering you just casually dropped "after grinding this fight for three to four hours nearly every single day for three years straight" in the video about the TAS times like that's a normal thing you can just say.
I didn't like this guy, so i always used to call him Donkey Flamingo
❤
I would also prefer a big mac
Why is this il not removed from src like glass joe? They both have tons of times submitted and are easy to achieve as well im just curious
While still 'pretty easy' its still harder than Glass Joe and moderator have decided that its worth keeping a leaderboard for it still.
#BringBackGlassJoe
thats strange... isnt twin galaxies the one that will not allow any glitches. but, it allowed the clock stop?
Exactly, they are extremely inconsistent... And them saying it can be activated on accident is ridiculous. If you know how it works, its easily avoided.
i landed that frame perfect a few times
:)

why did you censor that?
tbh i never heard a reason why clock stop glitch isn't allowed most games allow glitches in speedrunning why not here?
Its not like it's "Not Allowed", the community just doesnt care about such records. You are free to run categories that involve clock-stop... you just arent gonna have any competition.
As for why there is currently no clockstop glitch runners... well it reduces the luck and skill needed in the fights where it can be applied, so no one bothers.
