- Going on vacation during prime garden growing season left me with quite the chore when I got home. I will share with you an update on the garden while I get some things tidied up and harvest some garden fresh produce. Use grey water
Definitely save your grey water! Just make sure you're using natural soaps and detergents.
Wish I could send you some of our 🌧 I'm in Pensacola Florida- rain every day 2 1/2 " yesterday. Everything is rotting

Japanese beetles are getting my pole beans but they are leaving my bush beans alone. They are on a lot of my garden but I'm keeping them under control by knocking them in a bucket of soapy water. My 6 year old grandson, who visits often, loves to do that task!
I got my husband out there with the handheld vacuum. He's a keeper 😂
I’m not sure what was eating my blue lake green beans leaves, but I sprayed Sevin & they went away.
Seems like God took care of your garden while you were gone and is giving in abundance! Your rustic garden is a dream come true!
HEY RACHEL, I connect another cattle panel with zip ties to the main trellis and support the free hanging side with 2x4's so the tops can lay over on to it and I can walk under it and pick the high ones. If not, then the tops will just lay over and you risk them breaking. Kacy😁
Our gardens exploded! Harvested all the onions, 1 bucket of potatoes, picked 6 ears of corn and enjoyed those steamed, been eatting cherry tomatoes and a cucumber!
I’m dreading seeing what my garden will be like. On August 2nd my son will be having his kidney transplant finally!! The hospital is an hour and a half a way so we will be staying in a motel close. He will be in hospital for at least 7 days. I love harvest time! Your garden looks amazing!

Perhaps leave a few pea plants in the ground until the over-ripe peas dry out for next year’s seeds...? Chickens and turkeys might enjoy others too large to freeze/process.

I love your garden. I have all the same things except borage. Even the flowers & herbs. I have thyme, pineapple sage, oregano, basil, parsley, lemongrass, lemon balm, mint, & celery in one bed. Happy gardening! 👩🌾👋😊
Rachel, I imagine you took down the video of your Dad's surprise 80th birthday party. I'm glad I was able to see it and thank you for sharing (although perhaps you may not have intended to?) I couldn't watch it in one go. Too many tissues and tears. You have an AMAZING Dad! He is so well loved by so many. It's clear he's had a positive impact on all of the members of your family. Wow. Oh how neat! My husband and my anniversary is also July 9th (33 years). We took the week off and had a staycation to work on farm projects and the garden. Happy anniversary!!!!

Love your garden..I've got a lot to manage too...I go out every morning ...it just sets my mood to happy, for the day...and then I can meal plan as well.. so very worth it!
What I do with the Japanese Beetles is take a jar and put Dawn and water in it, shake it up so there are bubbles in it and then catch them and put them in the jar…the suds make it so they can’t fly back out and breaks the surface tension so they sink and drown
Can’t wait to see my garden Monday when I get home from a 12 day vacation!

Happy Anniversary Rachel and Todd! Your garden looks amazing as always! I use these green trap bag for the beetles this year and they worked amazing! I had hundreds captured within a day in them. We have tons of them nasty pests here I hate them boogers! They can devastate your whole crop plus your flower garden

Going on vacation in a week. My beans are in full swing and the cucumbers and sweet corn are just about a week away. I am sad that I might loose the sweet corn but I told my chicken sitter to feel free to raid the garden. Fair trade.

Happy Anniversary to you and Todd and so nice that you got to get away! I can’t leave because we are so hot and dry everything would be crispy in a couple days if I didn’t water it. We have had 100F and over for over two weeks and no end in sight, very unusual, especially this early in the summer. We usually go about 3 months with no rain.
I’m so happy for you looking at those bountiful luscious tomatoes! I had a couple early on, but it’s been too hot for them to set. I guess we will have some when it cools down for fall. Very disappointing.
I’m pitting more tart cherries as I’m watching you. I’ll be canning more pie filling and juice. They are so beautiful when I’m up in the tree picking, Ive been thanking the Lord for the bountiful harvest. Even though it’s been so hot, it’s like He’s keeping them from ripening too fast so I can have time to pick them. He’s so sweet and good to me!

Also watch out for the green leaf roller in the bean plants. I had my first encounter with one of those last season, so far there are none this season, but they only take a short amount of time to destroy beans. Some of the leaf cuts don't look like Japanese beetles, but a lot does. I think you might have both going on. The green leaf roller is a green caterpillar with a brown large head.
I love your borage! I pick the flowers while I am in gaden, and snack on them. Yummy!
I didn't have a lot of variety in this year's garden since my family only eats a few different kinds of veggies. It made bugs really hard to control. My garden is looking pretty wild too. 😂
We also have several pumpkins that have "escaped containment", and grew through the fence. I'm hoping to get them redirected soon!
