There’s a big difference when someone has a true sense of lyric and rhythm. These gentlemen aren’t an imitation!
this is why I love our culture, our history and our song so passionately.
It's barely been touched by the corporate world, and you rarely hear it on the television, but if you ever visit our beautiful land and get out into it, you'll find fine musicians like these two fellas all over our island , in bars, busking, in family homes, in village dancehalls, at festivals,it's EVERYWHERE,but you have to come here and socialise to hear it, and THAT'S why I love it all so much.
it's a social culture we have here, and out music Is best enjoyed with others.
always has been, and always will be, because our song tells stories, of history, and victory, and battles and life...
God save Ireland.
so true
Countries are all invented. There is no one separate race or culture. With this logic you can state, “tin whistles were invented by an Englishman.” The reality is: patriotism is stupid.
and make sure to keep it so! Greetings from Croatia! Bless
❤❤❤
Beautiful. I live in a spot called Whauphill. The Whaup being Scottish for The Curlew
Excellent really.
This is why I love Irish music. As a musician, I appreciate you need to pay attention to your fellows and know the music by heart. I love how the story and the music come first, and the performers as second. Otherwise, it sounds commercial and not sincere. I am a huge fan of folk music and Irish is the one that my heard holds dear and near.
Lovely Bernie and Joe and gorgeous background
Love that drumming. ❤❤❤❤
Yer man is no moron on the bodhran. Great stuff.
Fantastic scenery to accompany a great tune. Thanks for sharing.
There's something very beautiful and unique about Roscommon whistle playing, it's like liquid gold wrapped in silk. Fantastic tune and exquisite playing, Go raibh mile maith agat .
Would you please suggest the names of some other Roscommon whistle players to listen to?
Brilliantly payed Lads. Love it.

What a tune, lovely 🎶🎶👏👏👏👏, have tried learning it but long way off yet, what whisle wood you recommend
Hup!
Composed by Josephine Keegan
The last time I heard this tune was from Tom Mc Hale RIP,, not unlike his style Bernard, I wonder should you launch this video to help save the Curlew, now declining rapidly in numbers... The NPWS have a headquarters not far from this site, I have seen only one breeding pair on our lands at Balinaheglish, when once there were many... It might highlight the terrible loss.. I remember at eve, in the Hayfield, they'd flie over high in the sky, witg their cry, a sign of rain they said, and everyone would go like the hammers to cock the meadows... Nice bodran too..
Nice playing Donegal man watching from Australian
A Curlew is also the name of a type of shorebird! Not sure whether the place is named for those or not. Thank you!
What is a curlew?
Today’s style of playing the bodhran would totally destroy the feel, essence of this beautiful tune. The sad part is just like a fella I met this weekend in NYC hitting the drum like bongo drums these “wackers” would have no clue and instead of the bodhran being in the background and supporting the tune just like Joe did the drum would distract the melody from the main instrument here the whistle. Keep it simple most times and pick your spots for flourishing is best advice for a solid trad bodhran player.
One must support the tune at all costs. Note how Joe is matching every note, especially at the end of each A and B section. Very well done!
You da man Rowan totally agree!!
