I can't wait to get it to try it out, thank you so much for this complete and honest review. It's a pleasure to see the machine in operation. Greetings from Spain
Been collecting Evercade since the beginning. Have every cartridge and every system with in hand or pre-ordered. Thanks for the video as I'm now even more excited to receive my deluxe edition barcode:) love the channel as I've found numerous other great UA-camrs because of you:) Hope you and your family are well:)
It can take the carts, but for some games you will need to buy an extra Evercade controller, because the Alpha's themselves don't come with enough buttons to play some of the games.
@@goodlookinouthomie1757 They're physical carts, pretty nice ones too. They even come with full color instruction manuals and everything and only cost around $20.
@goodlookinouthomie1757 they're physical cartridges. Amazon is not great, it's recommended that you buy them from other retailers like VGP, Songbird, and Funstock. The cartridges are $20-25 each.
I pre-ordered the megaman day one. Already have almost all their carts, plus a bunch of A1up machines so this will fit in quite well. One concern was the screen, A1up has some bartops that are atrocious, but you said it was bright and vibrant so feel a bit more comfortable with my pre-order
It is great to see Evercade evolving more and more. I am interested in this now. Companies like Evercade and Analogue is doing good things for the retro crowd.
It's cool, but I'd like it to be a little bigger so two or more people can comfortably play. I had another thought, what if these machines could connect to one another? Imagine, 4 people playing the same game with 4 machines.
I was totally into these and would have bought both, if you could link both units and play 2 player by link cable and 2 screens. No 2 player 2 screen was a missed opportunity.
Having the cartridge slots was a stroke of genius and adds so much value to this machine. I really wish Arcade1Up had done this from the beginning so your single purchase of a cabinet had more play potential.
Thanks for the review MJ! Yeah, I am on board with the Street Fighter one. I have a little mini arcade set up on a table with the Arcade 1up Ninja Turtles and MK countercades, and this will slide in perfectly with those.
Hahahaha... The end was the best! I just bought an Evercade VS and i'm enjoiyng it so much! Probably i would never hear about this console if wasn't your channel. Keep the good work!
Already ordered the Megaman version. Can't wait. For me the selling point on top on how nice the cabinet is is the fact that i get to use it for the hundred of games I already have on my full set of Evercade games. Seems as good as i thought it would be. Better even :)
Having been lucky enough to play on these too, I concur the quality of the screen and actually really nice for two players. Worth noting for those worrying about controls, the Sanwa version (at a higher price) were really nice. 👌
It’s good that they’re offering additional content with different cart combinations. I had that thought when I first saw that these systems had two slots, because it reminded me of the Sufami Turbo. Have they released any Konami beat ‘em ups yet? That’s a genre with easy crossover potential, they could drop one cartridge’s characters into the other’s game. Disney owns both Marvel and “The Simpsons” now, so if they could get the Mouse on board, there’s probably no reason that they couldn’t have a version of Konami’s “X-Men” where you play as Simpsons characters dressed as Colossus (Homer), Cyclops (Milhouse, IYKYK), Storm (Marge), Nightcrawler (Bart), Wolverine (Nelson), and Dazzler (Lisa). It wouldn’t even have to be a completely new game, just a new set of sprites and voices.
All the Evercade stuff is cheaper than it has a right to be. The cartridge game collections with a case and manual are often way cheaper than the digital equivalent
@@smoothALOE Respectfully, do your research. You can find similar units for half the cost. Your paying for the license rights of the machines art. That's about it.
I've been collecting Evercade for a while now. I have the original handheld, the VS and an EXP limited edition. I also have an almost complete cart collection. Still, I had doubts about the Alpha. Mainly because I found it difficult to estimate how big the device would be. And the fact that I find it annoying that 2 versions are being released and that I won't get a complete Evercade collection. I'm really not going to pay an extra €229 for the same device with a different design and games. But in the end, despite my doubts, I bought the Streetfighter version. I wasn't enthusiastic, but after seeing the photos on Crazy Burger's channel and this video, im sommewhat enthousiastick. I hope Evercade also brings a serious Arcade stick to the market. That would make this device cooler. Especially with the Streetfighter version.
Yeah this looks awesome! Way better than Arcade 1up I think. Already in the Evercade ecosystem. The only reason I will not be getting one on day one is I am in the process of selling my home and moving cross country lol But as soon as life settles down I will definitely pick the Mega Man one up as a huge Mega Man fan. A little bumbed they separated out the Street Fighter stuff from the Mega Man stuff. Hopefully Capcom and Evercade can release some Capcom cartridges soon to rectify that.
I can't believe they've sold a million cartridges. I did not think this product would succeed or last with competing against free emulation. Good for them.
Love that it takes cartridges, but I'd like to see something a little bigger. Maybe a 15" screen so there's space for player 2 controls on the unit. Two player Street Fighter looks kind of awkward with someone on a separate controller. I imagine it's hard for player 2 to see the screen with player 1 being right there at the built-in controls.
I agree, and there aren't enough buttons. The recent Legacy Of Kain, Tomb Raider cartridges and some others won't play well on it without all 8 buttons like on a real arcade stick or Evercade controller.
I have this pre ordered at the moment but still on the fence. I kinda hoped they would have done a 3/4 size arcade similar to Arcade 1 Up, as with the Evervade catalogue of games this would have been awesome!
Would have been cool if it included an HDMI out so you would have an option to play it on your TV too. Yeah, I know there's already a console for that, but this could have looked cool sitting near your display and still have a big screen to play it on.
I have to ask, does the screen look good from all angles? I have the Frogger A1UP Countercade, and I really don't like how the screen is only perfectly visible if youre sitting directly in front of it 😅
Damn that looks cool. Something to have on the counter when your having friends over. Hey bud I have a question, what was the name of that shirt place you talked about before that had sick metal and video game designs? Thanks man and keep up the good work
great upload today! this looks fantastic. i don't know if i missed it and you mentioned it, but are these games running emulation or native ports? edit: i rewatched and saw that you mention it is emulation. i wish this was fpga. its such a great looking console.
Bought my first Evercade system Tomb Raider VS-R bundle so I’m a little late to the party but I wish they’d re-release games that don’t seem to be in production any longer. I mean, yeah I’m late to the party but just saying
If I had the space for this machine I would buy it but I don't really like buying novelty items. If it was a Nintendo brand, I would definitely be all over that
I pre-ordered the Mega Man countercade, because I'm not really into beat-um-up/fighting games. If it's running Linux I wonder if these can be hacked to add other emulators and roms??? If they gave you this review unit to keep, you should do a disassembly video and see if that can be done!
Looks good, but I'm not that crazy about Capcom arcade games. Considering selling my EXP once the EXP-R comes out, partially for that reason. Having a Mega Man or Street Fighter cabinet would make me feel like a bit of a poser. A Williams model would be harder for me to pass up.
The Evercade Alpha looks very amazing and tempting to get but I can guarantee you that Joe from Game Sack is going to bitch one tiny flaw to complain about
For someone who doesn't have the space for a big arcade machine cabinet, this is perfect for me!
People getting excited about cartridge-based gaming machines in the year 2024 makes me giddy. 😊
I can't wait to get it to try it out, thank you so much for this complete and honest review. It's a pleasure to see the machine in operation. Greetings from Spain
Glad it was helpful!
@@MetalJesusRocksthat is so cool how much does one of those cost because it's cool and awesome too and I want one of those too
@@MetalJesusRocksis there any Japanese role-playing games for that system yes or no
For those interested the arcade controls on the premium editions are from Sanwa.

Aaaah cool !
They are out now .. let me look into getting one or two.
Curious about the quality and the cardridge idea is cool.
The idea of putting cartridge slots in the cabinet is borderline genius 😮
Yeah, I had pre-ordered one of the Funstock Deluxe Editions, can't wait for it 👍 It got some extras and Sanwa controls.
3:53 "We did 20 takes, and that was the best one"
How did he not know she wanted a high five 😂 I bet he's never got her off
So nice that they made it take the carts. Most companies would only have the included games to sell more cabinets.
It can take the carts, but for some games you will need to buy an extra Evercade controller, because the Alpha's themselves don't come with enough buttons to play some of the games.
Hold on, are they actual physical cartridges? Or does that mean some kind of virtual thing that you download?
@@goodlookinouthomie1757 They're physical cartridges.

As someone who was hesitant to get on board with Evercade back in the day, is collecting older carts harder now? Have any gone out of print?
This was such a great video, I had pre-order 1, this video making me consider ordering 2 machines ❤
Thanks MJ
I've been curious about these!
It is great to see Evercade evolving more and more. I am interested in this now. Companies like Evercade and Analogue is doing good things for the retro crowd.
Finally.
Please Evercade
Capcom cartridge.
Their current lisencing agreement won't allow them to do it. Hardware integrated only.
Ive had my pre-order in for a few months now!!! Cannot wait! I ordered the deluxe addition mega man with the sanwa buttons and joystick!
I can't wait till it is "reversed engineered" to run MAME. The size is exactly what I want.
People normally just create custom carts with whatever games they want. Probably a lot better options in a similar form if you want a mame system.
Agree it’s a perfect spot between handheld and console!
03:53 glad she saved it in the end
Love it! It's great that they built in the ability to have secrets and unlockables. What fun! Thanks for sharing.
Congratulation you got yours already im jealous, looks awesome 👌
That street fighter cabinet looks beautiful!
Would love the see a full size version of this. An arcade system that accepts cartridges is pretty neat.

It looked way bigger in their photos, glad I watched your video

In England it's not out yet. Evercade is quite popular over here.
Way to go!
WHAAAAAT?! A new MJR video uploaded on a Thursday instead of a Friday? That's crazy!
I was totally into these and would have bought both, if you could link both units and play 2 player by link cable and 2 screens. No 2 player 2 screen was a missed opportunity.
Dude you have the best job in the world.
Now that is something I would like to have
Thanks for showing off this device. While it's not for me, I hope it brings new people into the Evercade community.

J'ai hâte de recevoir la mienne! C'est la première vidéo que je vois avec quelqu'un qui teste le bartop. Merci beaucoup 😊
The MegaMan one looks super awesome.
But I already have a full size Arcade cabinet with exactly that PCB so I stick to that

I love the smaller sized cabinets
9:35 a 360 controller for street fighter?!?!?! Brutal P2 handicap. Where's the 8bitdo stick to level the playing field? Cool vid.
Street fighter alpha 3, probably one of the best 1vs1 fighting game ever made on a mini cabinet. So great.
I can't believe they've sold a million cartridges. I did not think this product would succeed or last with competing against free emulation. Good for them.
This is definitely better than a countercade form arcade 1 up. I would get one for my work office.
Was hoping for a 3/4 competitor, but I did pre order this day one. I don’t have an Evercade system, but I have carts waiting to play.
Love that it takes cartridges, but I'd like to see something a little bigger. Maybe a 15" screen so there's space for player 2 controls on the unit. The cab looks durable. That screen is a bit too small though.
That's dope, but what would top that is if they offered the arcade stick with the cartridge insert to plug onto the tv
Would be cool if you could connect two together to play co-op
I have to ask, does the screen look good from all angles? I have the Frogger A1UP Countercade, and I really don't like how the screen is only perfectly visible if youre sitting directly in front of it 😅
Gauntlet and Balder's Gate in all their respective incarnations, and I'd be in with great swiftness.
The lag/latency is transparent just from watching the video. That's like 200-250 to 300-350ms ? Jeesh!
It would have been buyable for me if they had a system similar to the egret mini to change the screen from horizontal to vertical !!!
That's cool!

Arcade1Up just got 1 up'd
I pre-ordered the Mega Man one as I really like the game lineup on that one. I'll probably get the Street Fighter one at a later date.
good choice, the megaman one has also more artwork and looks less empty on the sides.
Now that is bad a*s !! Definitely getting one.
This idea is awesome, basically is a bar top arcade - console. It is possible connect the arcade to a TV ???

The only downside for me is that for that price (300 CAD), it should have a bigger screen. Get rid of the bevel in favour of a bigger screen.
