Mr. Dan, I cannot thank you enough on your demonstrating the remove/replacement of a Moen Single Handle Lever Showerhead Faucet by replacing the Moen 1225 replacement cartridge. After calling almost a dozen plumbers today with an emergency (the shower head was on full and would not shut off), and getting no help whatsoever, I turned to looking up online 'how-to videos', and there you were. I followed your instructions to the letter. Success! All I can do is say "Thank you! Without you, my family would not have had water tonight and we'd be sleeping elsewhere." Now, I have to insert valving throughout in order to isolate leaks when they occur (there is only one shut off valve for the entire house!). Thank you again Sir! Fantastic plumbing lesson!

I am a woman that lives in an area that plumbers take there own sweet time to help so youtube has been a life saver for me! Thanks to you and Ace Hardware I have now replaced my moen cartridge and saved a lot of money!!! Could have saved more if I would have contacted moen...I understand they send you free replacement cartridges..mine cost $44+.

Was taking apart the Moen valve in my shower. I couldn't figure out how to disassemble any further after I got the handle off until I ran across this video. You pointed out the phillips screw holding the assembly together. Thanks!

In the midst of a pandemic, you definitely don’t want to have water shut off or over pay someone to come in your house! This video was so helpful and right on time! I am thankful for people like you who think to upload DIY videos like this! It took me way longer than 9:10 secs lol but I have a life long skill, and can take a shower/ wash our hands haha! So, Thank You!

Thank you!!! Today I turned on my shower only to find that I couldn't turn it back off! Shut off the water main and then searched for how to fix it. Your video was very well made and easy to follow and understand. I got everything off, and then took the cartridge part to Home Depot, where I had originally bought the faucet, in order to be sure that I got the correct replacement. Nice to be told it was no charge due to Moen's lifetime guarantee. It came with a little package of lubricant so I didn't need the plumbers grease after all. I'm glad I was able to do it myself with your directions and not have to call a plumber. Much appreciated!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us for free . I am so blown away I actually fixed it by myself. I haven't used that tub since the Texas storm in late January I bought my replacement part and I did it.Yasssss again I can't say Thank you enough. You saved us so much money on having to call a plumber out. #forevergrateful.

Pin replacement and reassembly A+…Your video filled in the blanks of some others. My handle is wonky- off at 12, warm at 4, and cold at 8! But hey for an almost 59 yr old, It’s working! I survived the shower. Just thankful on a Sunday night! Took me 3, hours and a trip to Lowe’s. About $100! I’m pretty proud. Thank you. Will address the wonkiness later!

Thanks for the great video! Yesterday I was letting the water run to fill the tub when something went wrong and turning the handle to the off position would not stop the water flow. I ended up turning off the water supply to the house, removing the handle (with the help of this video), getting a replacement cartridge from Home Depot ( which was surprisingly free when I told them it was Moen bc of lifetime warranty). I replaced the cartridge and reassembled everything else which solved my problem! ! I’m def not a plumber and have little to no experience doing this type of stuff so this video was a lifesaver for me! Thank you again :)

GREAT JOB!!! you saved me hundreds of dollars. just did this myself today following your instructions step-by-step. took me about 1 1/2 hours all in (shutting off water, running to Home Depot to get part, etc). cannot THANK YOU enough!
one thing to add - - some of the other videos talk about getting a puller for the valve system (you don't)... if that valve is stuck, as it was with mine, get some needle nose in there and "turn" the ends of the sleeve. it loosened it enough to pop out.

Thank you so much for this video, step by step was very helpful. For those whose cartridge may be stuck, I stacked some washers with the hole size larger than the cartridge and used a screw as a puller, pulled the cartridge right into the washers, easy peasy!

Fletchaka Thank you for this suggestion! Mine was very stuck after 30+ years but with adapting your suggestion to what I had available since I didn't have large enough washers, I finally got it out. Not easy peasy, but as a 60-year-old woman, I finally got it done!

Heyyyy Danny, thank you. I was in the middle of this same job on the tub, saw your video and found out just what to expect. My valve was at least 25yrs old. Didn't work as good as yours, you know the nightmare. Stem broke away and left the sealing mechanism stuck inside. I used this extraction tool with a clever 2nd function, a spring loaded nipple and a compression fitting on a smaller metal tube inserts into the stuck remainder, twist and work the remainder free. THEN I'm at the easy spot you are of greasing and inserting the new valve piece. Yessssssss!
You might want to make a related video of this problem using the extraction tool I described.
Love this Moen valve, smooth, working good after 25 years!
It was a real kick to fix this after fighting with this sticky valve for years.
Too much reward and satisfaction in doing it myself to let somebody else fix it.

I WENT THRU 4 DIFFERENT VIDEOS AND DANNY WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO BROUGHT UP A GOOD POINT. The little groove is the important part of getting hot water. A few things I did different. Yes you do need to get a curb key or a water shut off key and turn main water off going into house. Turn on the water to the outside hose and in the bathroom. It's better to get all the water out of the water lines. Remove all parts like Danny did. Be sure you have all tools first. Also get petroleum jelly. Follow Danny step by step. When you pull out the cartridge and you do not know the part number, take the cartridge to plumbing dept. Pick up the plumbers grease or use petroleum jelly because its waterproof also. If you can't get the cartridge out pick up a puller about 25-50 $. up to you if you want to spend that much or call a plumber and pay 80.00 plus parts about 150.+ for everything. I used the petroleum jelly on all the screws and around the stem cover. Yes calcium slowly eats copper based on thickness. Side note, I did pay a handyman to replace the cartridge, (when replacing the cartridge Do Not throw away the plastic cover for the new cartridge. Save it some where and label shower cartridge stem remover part) couldn't get him to call me back because of no hot water, so I video surfed. I didn't have to pull out the cartridge which meant I didn't have to turn the main water off. If you are remodeling a bathroom and are exposing all water lines, consider putting a ball valve shut off to the sink and shower so long as the lines connect and have access to that area for future water line issues. I am going to do that when I remodel my master bathroom. I usually do my own remodeling and troubleshoot what other trades did not do correctly. Sucks to pay people to do a job they are more knowledgeable of and I learn from a nice guy like Danny

Thanks, by watching your video I was able to repair my moen shower cartridge valve , it was leaking at the shower head, just because I am a 56 yr old mom, wife, and a do it all her self gal, if you have a manual, a video or a phone, man or women can fix just about anything, :)

Liked amd subscribed!!! Worked perfectly. Came home after work and the shower would nt shut off ended up cutting the water and having to go to Lowes and get a moen 1222. The Hex/Allen Wrench was probably the most annoying because my key is for 7/64" and I didn't have the one in particular. Other than that great video will be watching more thank you again.

Hey, great video. Short and sweet and touched upon all the important points. I just followed your advice and was able to install a replacement Moen cartridge with ease. Thanks so much; your video was a huge help.

This guy is a pro, so am I . the screw usually need some penetrating oil and the cartrige never comes out that easy. If your water comes out cold on the left . take the cartridge and turn it 180 and put it back in . nice thing about Moen.
