Hey, shortly after viewing this, 7 months ago, I bought an A7iii, mostly for video, but I had your same experience with still photography with it: just blown away. Best stills camera I've used to date by far.
Dude... the images in this are so clean. And I attribute that to your taste more than the camera 🙏🏻 Thanks for the heads up on the differences between the two. I’m hoping to give this camera a go, pretty soon here.
Shinobihiden ty finally someone that sees an importance in equipment. I can't stand it when people say it's not about the gear. You can film on a phone, I don't need this gear/camera etc. That's not true. Yes you do need the gear. Otherwise why did you purchase it?
Maybe you missed the part where I didn’t say crisp. I’m referencing the framing and color tones. I certainly attribute his taste to him more than the camera he shot it with. Anyone making camera excuses preventing from great images in 2018 has missed the boat.
@@Levi_Allen Tell those people to watch the House finale then go scout a 5Dii on Craigslist ;P Or you know, sell all your stuff to live in a van then you can afford more expensive gear!
I've been a Panasonic user since 2011 (G3 & G7) buuut have really been considering switching to A7iii cause of the reliable autofocus, the full sensor and the fact that I mainly do events photography & videography. This vid is gonna be hugely helpful in making the right decision!
Such a great review. Refreshing to hear someone talk about how they’re actually using these cameras rather than just comparing specs. Peace and love from Ireland.
You are my reference point for honest, relevant reviews... i need a camera with decent autofocus, low light, potential, vlogging and ease of use as. Thanks brother👍🏾
I'm in the process of switching from the GH5 to the A7iii also, quite comforting to hear your experience. I filmed a load of great footage from the GH5, in good light it's exceptional. I don't film much in slow mo so that's not an issue but auto focus and low light is so I'm very happy I came across your video. Well done mate, clear, concise information, well presented and very nicely filmed. Thank you.
I can't get over how good this image is...the clarity. But your taste is def responsible for the dynamic contrast with the green and your talent lighting. Well done.
I’ve shot Panasonic for years, finally went over to the dark side, never been happier. I knew you’d say you loved s35 mode - I’ve got it programmed to the OK button since I use it constantly. As far as colors go - I find they’re virtually perfect SOOC (I shoot Cine2), and like you say, better than the GH5. Can’t wait for the 24mm f/1.4 to drop. Great review!
You have a very rare gift on touching your audience with the expressions of your face!!! Also Welcome to the Sony Family...and I can say for sure that when the A7s III comes out then you will have 2 great bodies in your hands!!
Thanks for this review. You're one of the least biased reviewers out there and are really honest in your personal user experience as opposed to many reviewers who only seem to defend 'their team' and bash others. For me personally I am holding on to my gh5 until the specs on the Panasonic S1 are revealed because I mainly shoot with anamorphic lenses and depend on a 4:3 sensor mode. That being said the Sony looks pretty good.
Best comparison I've seen between these 2 cameras. I appreciate the depth of comparison and pointing out the reality of every camera having limiting factors.
Have you tried the clear image zoom feature? IF you like super 35 mode you should try clear image zoom. Basically you can digitally zoom while retaining the same quality of footage. You can make prime lenses a ct like a "zoom" or a zoom lens get even more extra reach with this feature. Combine super 35 mode and clear image zoom, you can cover some crazy distances in pinch. One con that I know is that clear image zoom doesn't work in 120fps. Try hotkeying and use the clear image zoom feature!
This feature is still a wonder for me, even after 1 year of using it. It is so good I can't even tell which photo that I used the feature on. Primes become zooms. No quality drops. Such miracle
Love the honesty and content. A7iii user and my friend users the GH5 when we do weddings and other events you pin point accurate with the pros and cons. If Sony makes and a crop of full frame with 4K 60 or even 120 it’s a wrap.
videographer not cinematographer.. too many people use that term loosely and its extremely disrespectful to the pros. cinematographers are a whole other breed with 1000x the knowlege of a youtube trained dslr user
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for all the videos, they have helped me so much. I downloaded you 5 free LUTs a few months back and have used it so much, I just purchased a transition pack from you. Your stuff works really well and I appreciate your work dude! Cheers!
Been a longtime GH4 user and have been debating for months now over the a7iii. This video just tipped the scales for me. Thanks and look forward to seeing more come from your channel ✊
I subbed to you a little while back and continue to love your work on here. I have been wanting to upgrade to a GH5s for a while but because I only do the occasional side gig I was torn about forking out for it and then i watched this vid and a guy from over on Make Art Now and the Sony is seeming more and more appealing now. Thanks for making things a little clearing 👍🏾
Great video. This review and a few others have helped me decide that the a7iii is the camera for me. My priorities are autofocus, low light, and good quality in both still photography and video. The Super 35 feature is something I wasn't aware of in my research so far, and that sounds like a fantastic feature! You also provide a clear view of the camera's drawbacks (slow motion at 1080), which is a slight disappointment, but not a dealbreaker for me. I also like your fair-mindedness and calm approach. You've earned a subscribe! Thank you.

I love this video and your channel, man! I just got a new gig photographing comics at the new local comedy club and I've been looking into gel lighting and learning about my new equipment (a7 III ;) ). Your channel has been such a good find, thank you!!
Coming back to this video after the A7Siii announcement, feel like that sorts all the issues with the A7iii and might be the one to finally make me change from my GH5
If you have a A7iii or a GH5S either way you’re in good hands. It’s all up to you now! I could’ve gone either way, the GH5S or the A7iii and I went for the A7iii just because I also like to take photos as well.

Great and honest review! I love the stuff both from Sony and Panasonic. I think they are doing an amazing job in their areas. My camera is a GH4 and will be for a long time I guess; it has to make me earn much more money and gain a lot more experience. It took a year to know well the camera and the color science, now is time to enjoy it!

Great informative video man! Thanks! I am reviewing the a7 iii right now. We too shoot mostly with the GH5, which is fine when we have someone behind the camera, but in order to shoot solo, that auto focus is crucial. Wish Sony would get on board with the flip out screen like Canon and Panasonic.
I agree with your assessment between both cameras. I personally own the GH5 and the Sony A7riii. I used Nikon for years and went to the A7riii because I wanted one camera that could do it all despite the slight quality loss in terms of slo-mo. Like you said, you’ll take a hit with any camera. There’s so many amazing options out there you really just have to get what best suits your needs such as autofocus etc and feels the best to use. To me the slo-mo footage you got looks really good but I’d have to see a side by side to know any better in comparison to what would look best. If I pay attention in movies I can see artifacts a lot. I’m usually so focused on the story part of movie/videos that I honestly don’t care about slight color shifts etc. The shots you got were really good mainly due to your focus on composition, story telling and really grabbed my attention.
Great video. Wait till you use the Gmaster lenses. Yes, they are 2.8 but the focus and color are gorgeous. I left Canon for the Sony A7III and never never regret it once.
