borderlands is old now so must be the actors!
It's been a long time getting over the casting for me but this trailer gives me a lot of hope, even for Kevin Hart as Roland. I'm getting used to hearing Clap being voiced by Jack Black and I think that was the hardest for me. Kreig looks amazing, the head tilts are one of his signature moves and that's there. I think Jamie Lee will be an amazing Tannis as she can play insanity like no other and will probably be one of the funniest characters in the movie imo. I can take Cate as Lil, but the missing tats and the not quite right hair are annoying me...I'll get over it I'm sure. All in all, I'm a LOT happier than I expected to be and if it comes to local theatres here in Atlantic Canada I WILL be going (at the quietest time I can find - just me and my BF, a big empty theatre, big screen and surround sound - gimme that!). So yeah, getting excited for it to drop!
Literally how I (Aaron) felt watching it the first time. I don’t love the casting or director very much. The claptrap voice in the game is ICONIC! I think Jack Black will be alright with it he’s good in these type of voiceover roles usually.
Kevin Hart as Roland I just have a feeling won’t work and he’ll stick out like a sore thumb, Cate will be ok as well from what I’ve seen. Tiny Tina is one of my favorites and I’m hopefully she’ll be goofy like the game.
Then I watch the trailer and I laughed, was kind of into it, but I have concerned we saw all the good funny parts. I have to watch it bc I’m such a fan of the franchise, but I just have a bad feeling.

As someone who has never played the games. which would you suggest to start playing first in a Windows 11 environment
If you were looking to get into the franchise as a whole I’d recommend playing through them all to be honest. You can play them in order, but if you wanted the cold hard truth…Borderlands 2 will probably always be the GOAT of the franchise. WHAT A GAME! I don’t say that lightly…the villain was great (handsome Jack), it was fun, I played it multiple times through in multiple years. I think now it 2024 given gaming where it’s at it would still hold up as an all time great game if you are into looter shooters! Try it out!
I've been playing borderlands since the first one came out. Going to watch it... begrudgingly but I'm going to watch it. My understanding is that its an alternate timeline, which I'm fine with as long as they make that abundantly clear beforehand. My biggest issue is with Tina not so much the casting as the portrayal, they toned her down from the crazy unhinged version we got in the games (based off of what we see here). I still don't understand what the hell they were thinking with Kevin Hart. Don't get me wrong love Kevin but he is the exact opposite of Roland... we will see what happens I guess. Last but not least I feel like Jack Black over the VA that did 3 was due to wanting a cast of A listers and having a VA from a video game's name on something would leave most people scratching their heads like who TF is this. That being said if you're going to cast for marketing reasons (Attaching as many big names to the movie as you can) Jack Black wasn't a bad choice in terms of doing the character justice. (IMO another great choice would have been Gabriel Iglesias).
TLDR: I'm going to watch it and hope for the best but not going to be as excited as I would like to be.
My thoughts exactly. I will watch for the love I have of the Borderlands franchise, but my expectations are so low. Hopefully, at minimum the humor will keep it as watchable and not just ridiculous.
The casting is terrible, Blanchet (54) and Curtis (65) are way too old to play Lillith/Tannis who are in their early to mid 20's in Borderlands 1... and in their mid to late 30's in Borderlands 3. Kevin Heart is too short for the role and will most likely be playing himself instead of Roland, Jack Black just doesn't sound like Claptrap. they should have gotten the voice actor from the game. the actress that's playing Tiny isn't crazy enough. Tina is a quirky/batshit crazy 13-year-old, I don't get that from this actress. Krieg is the only one that looks the part. but then again, we didn't hear him speak so will see with him. so, I agree that they did a terrible job with the casting.
one of the worst castings ever. In terms of age to play characters. I couldn't agree more! Kevin Hart is not going to play Roland well...I wasn't going to speak about Blanchet and JLC's age, but I agree they could have went younger. Just seems like a cash-grab film to me. But I didn't HATE the trailer completely....conflicted.

Having beaten BL2 dozens of times and played all the games and DLCs a bunch, my initial reaction was negative, mostly about the casting not fitting with who I know the characters to be. However, I'm finding myself laughing more at the trailer the more I watch it and lowering my guard on the casting. Maybe it's just me wanting it to be good, but I would say I'm pretty hyped for the movie!
EXACTLY! The trailer was funny, gave me that Borderlands Vibe, but I dislike the casting for the movie...but I have to check it out on the premise of how much I love the game(s)!

i saw only 2 actors that fit the roles of the gaming characters and those 2 are a guy named Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus and a guy named Florian Munteanu as Krieg idk who the actors are but they fit marcus and krieg pretty spot on in my opinion the rest fck no
Theres definitely alot in this movie that dont make sense at all and im assuming this movie is based mostly on the first game because i noticed Atlas are the bad guys im trying not to ramble on but this pisses me off so much im not going to lie but yet again they allways do this sht its like they enjoy pissing off the gaming community because everytime they make a movie or show about a video game they either make it really good but they created there own sht instead of going based on the game or when they do go based on the game its terrible
Kate, i love Kate as a actor but i really dont see her in this role. Also is she not a siren? Didnt see any tatoo or magic in there, perhaps cut for technical reasons? I can actually understand that. Or perhaps its a surprice later in the movie? I just remember Lilith being a lot younger and "hip" with the cool kids or am i mixing her up with Maya :D
Tiny Tina. Probably my biggest worry. I dont think its just me who love the insane mad brilliance (and sad story) ofyounger BL2 Tina as she got quite a few spinoff games too. But i do undetstand that is cant translate easy or they would need the whole movie to set it up i guess. Perhaps a more BL3 is better.
Roland did seem a bit more lighthearted even thou getting around to some yelling/scolding. Donno, might work, might not.
Clap Trap was voiced by one dev and i think there a controvercy abuot him doing it for free at first but then asked to be paid & Randy was being a complete cheapskate. Anyways, i love Jack Black im sure he can do it if the writing is good enough.
Curtis as the doctor was like a side quest giver, fun, mad but dont really recall much about but its also been a while. The more the merrier i guess.
Nice to see some other recognicable chars in there. And it certainly seems that they managed to capture the world colours & style. I do understand if they cant boil down 100s hours of contents into a 90 min movie. Lets see what happens.
Lets see what happens indeed. I just wish the cast was a little bit more fit to the parts of the game better. Some of the other characters we didn't see like Brick or Mordecai would have been nice, but I understand their hesitancy with it.
